Morning, thought I’d go out early, beat the heat but no go, with the feel like factor suppose to feel like 95f..think it’s that now..got an hour in and came in to wipe myself down..so if it’s like this this in your neighbourhood stay cool.
Thanks “M” did go and vote for Sharon..how exciting to be even in top 10.is Lorna working? I see they also cancelled Terry Fox run..so sad!
LIndakay, under guides and information sub tab extras?? I know I have difficulties every time I go looking.
Sharon, with exchanging seasonal decor in totes that are housed in back shed, then in and out for tools etc for spring clean up, anything you don’t know what to do with, in the shed. I am in need of major cleaning and organizing..likely something I could do on a rainy day.the area isn’t so much to purge but to clean up and know where things are.
This morning when I went to get the hoe I saw on top shelf the fixing for another set of columns for bubbling feature..could do them differently into a trIo planter set but don’t know if I want to be carrying bags of cement and mixing lol
I saw on Pinterest the cutes hanging light piece for candles, need 8 same salmon tins, Sharon called to say she has my first one..guess if I want to make this piece I’d best starting eating salmon sandwiches, not my favourite..might have to put out an sos requesting tins lol
Well, I’ve cooked down, going to try for another 1/2 hr or so..that will be my day..
What are you all doing today?
Best/Worse/What did I learn Today? A place to chat with friends..always a chair by the Gardens for newcomers to join in..come sit a spell!
I posted the link to vote over on Cubits. Friends there are voting too.
Noon, the work 1/2 hr rest 1/2 hour just doesn’t work..maybe I should have worn a watch lol
Back in for 2nd bath..will clean me up and cool me down..firepit is brimming with tree/shrub, guess on the weekend I can get a bag of marshmallows and have me a party, always fun with the gang, me myself and I 😜
Am thinking I could do ribs, scalloped potatoes, bake some cookies so that all will be ready for supper..thinking of going to see where I am on the penguin throw.
This gardening is hard work, lots of cuts and bruising
Karen, thanks so much fo the add to Cubits. I am still absolutely stunned.
We ar going to be 106 today so I am not going to do much outside but I do have some geraniums that ned dead heading. I will just wait until they are in the shade.
Betty my arm looks like that thanks to Peanut. I was sitting in Vern's, now my chair, reading last night and she got on the table next to the chair and proceeded to knock over my Diet Pepsi. As I was trying to clean the small spill with a tissue, she let off and it me because I was disturbing her and then proceeded to tun on my Apple TV. I was ready to pick her up and throw her into the pool but I didn't.
I am currently sitting in the back and listening to the birds, watching the dragonflies and hummers.
I will return later. Just wanted to check in and say Good Morning from the Western USA.
Sharon - your yard IS the best - I would move in, in a heartbeat. SO beautiful. I voted, of course! I'll "grab" the link & post it on Garden.org.
What's this about people in a swimming pool? Stage 2 of COVID-19 on now?
May 16 we bought some Cheerios Honey Nut Clusters (cheerios, almonds & almond clusters) - no clusters. So I went on their site & sent a complaint. JUST got the answer - they said it would have been a mechanical fault and will send an "adjustment" (?) to our address in 10-15 business days. Curious what that will be - a coupon for a free box?
Sun's come out & it looks like a lovely day :) I'm going to make some planter boxes to go into our cast iron open work planters, then PLANT. Don't have some of the plants we ordered - still on back order because the Garden Centre "ordered too much & we're cutting back on the store order". The distributor isn't far from us, but they won't let us pay for them at our garden center then pick them up. Oh well, my cleome will come sooner or later........
Hiya :-)
All is well here, sorta .. Lorna is back to work , albeit a shortened work week .. Mon Tues and Wed .. AND ... tey expect just as much work from her !! She fell on Monday (her first day) no injuries, but a whack to her confidence .. she is waiting patiently for a new knee for her prosthetic .. but the gov't moves so slowly !!
Sharon and Pat beautiful pics, LK, you Pride of Bbdos is just lovely..
I'm with Susan Sharon, you are THE WINNER :-)
Betty, I need a nap after I read your posts, ever since my hip replacement, I have slowed right down ..the gardening is piece meal, DH and Lorna do the lions share .. I am the dog Mommy and boy oh boy do they need to be groomed !!! Soon I hope ..
Social distancing persists, and lock down .. depressing huh ??
Stay safe & well all
~M~
I don't understand why dog groomers got closed. They are ones who could easily do curb pick up. Crazy all this.
Marilynne - so good to hear from you. Glad Lorna's back to work, but geeze they're working her hard - 5 days work in 3? She's really had a "journey" with her prosthetic. Boy oh Boy.
I thought hip replacements were easier to heal from than knees? I've had 2 knees replaced and I'm right back to normal (sic lol). I can walk as fast as ever - no reason to run, but I could, if pressed to. All I can't do is kneel - can't put pressure on my knees At All! Seems some of my nerves feel "dead" and others are over-sensitive. Go figure. As long as I don't kneel, and you don't see the scars, you'd never know that I had "bad" knees.
Good morning, feel rain is in the air..did light the firepit, about 1/2 burned the rest too green. Have to let Greg know A\C isn’t working again, glad this week temps will be lower so it will give me time to get repaired if he can’t do it..
Wrote a long post last night and I just wouldn’t post, copied so I could repost but at some point the paste got lost so here I am, coffee in hand, Ziggy beside me ready to take on the day.
Karen, my girlfriend picked up mom’s dog and also darlene’s On Friday and with social distancing all went well.
“M” so know Lorna does not want to give this up but perhaps her body is telling her she must before she has a major injury due to a fall..just never gave much thought to those wearing a prosthesis, sure do now. Sorry to hear about your hip replacement, guess it’s a chance one has to take when considering that option.mom had hers done about 10 years ago and she outdoes me...sad that the Terry Fox run will not happened this year.
I’m off to Midland, going to go looking for anything that might have elastic in it..keep getting asked to make them but with no elastic???
Want to be there at store opening, maddening thing is I wanted to pick up mulch and a few plants but the nurseries and Home Depot garden Center don’t open until 10, not staying that long..
Off I go, gab in a bit.,wish me luck
I hope you find something with elastic. Tshirts, or hair ties, if nothing else.
wind's died down today - yesterday it was gusting to 43k - nasty out!
Today it's sunny, but a bit cool.
Betty - you could go for an early lunch, by staying in Midfield.
No elastic, just used last I had for Mel’s masks, even those have a few different type elastics..I bought 15 of what I bought last time at Dollarama only to cut one open and they used something totally different, big sigh can’t return till after Covid.
Susan, don’t do restaurants..I was in town for all of 5 minutes when doors first open, thInk there was myself and one other person in the stores.
Rained this afternoon
Mel’s birthday tomorrow, will have to get her something next time I’m in town.
A/c stopped work8mg yesterday, Greg said he was sending one of his guys over tomorrow..thInk the Mouse might had done something to relay..colder weather for the next week so hopefully problem will be resolved by then.
Tired, thinking of having my bath, leftover bbq ribs and scalloped potatoes, look at flyer sales that just got delivered and call it a day?
Good afternoon everyone.
It wasn't as steamy hot today but it was still quite warm for this time of year. Sharon your temps would be the death of me.
Had to do some errands in the village this morning. When I was out I texted my friends who just got back from Cairo to see if they needed anything. Frank texted me a long list. Boy it is hard to chose items when it is not for yourself. Like mustard and relish.... I know what I would buy but for someone else ? They were grateful for the grocery run. Apparently they had been living on cold cuts and salads.
It's a light rain out there right now but we are in line for some stormy weather. Betty are you expecting rain and T and L too ?
AC not working... oh no !!! I don't know about the rest of you but I do not handle heat well now. When I was younger I basked in the sun. I even worked in tobacco and as a lifeguard.
Deb how are you making out ? You've got a lot on your plate right now.
Susan you sound busy and happy.
Last night I was going through a box and in it I found a letter from Barb.Brought smiles to my face and ears in my eyes.
The township has asked everyone to limit the number of trash bags they put out on garbage day. I think since so many are self isolating at home people are doing a deep dive into cleaning up closets and such.
Pat I was thinking about what you said about the 'rabbit hole'. I wonder if phrases are particular to an area. I had never heard the phrase "if I had 2 brains 1 would be lonely" until I met my DH.
Chaos is trying to tell me he needs to eat by tossing their food bowls around.
Stay safe and well.
Sorry to hear you can't use the elastic Betty. I have plenty, but would probably get there by Christmas.
Dianne, when I got up this morning at 8 I said, Hey Google "Good Morning ". The current temperature is 99f. Our high today is suppose to be 109. I walked the dogs at 9 but it was already to hot. We will go for a longer walk after the sun has gone down. We are in a high heat temporary system and wind will move in tomorrow with temps in the 90s but with the wind, it will just dry everything out.
I discovered a bed yesterday that has been over run with a nasty ground hugging weed. I have been so busy doing other areas of the garden, didn't pay attention. Now I have a major, probably an hour, job ahead of me. I thought I had laid per-emmergent in the bed, but obviously not. I will take a photo before I start. I still have the one large germanium to dead head. Went to do it this morning but it was already in full sun.
Betty, rats and mice are death on electrical wires in pool heaters, and air conditioning. They get in there and chew the wires. A neighbor up the street got a family of rats in his attic and they chewed all of the wiring in his attic.
Marilyn, I know how difficult gardening is and Lorna is a jewel for continuing but I do understand why she does so.
Susan, I think your wind was happy but I am not sure. Lingo I am not used to.
Peanut spilled my Diet Pepsi again last night but knocked the whole glass off the table and I had a major mess to clean up. Guess I am going to find a different place for my glass.
Betty, do you have Next Door there. It is used in the USA and it is for your immediate neighborhood. It alerts your neighbors if you are looking for something that the stores do not have. I bet someone in your area has a bunch of elastic they are not using.
Good will here has been over run with donations because of all the individuals cleaning. My neighbor cleaned out her walk in pantry and said she could not believe how much she found that was way to old to eat.
My daughter made her Costco trip today and was putting groceries away. She said, what happened to all of your food. Did someone throw it away.My answer, " No, just don't eat that much anymore and rarely make anything big enough for left overs".
She and her husband Kris are heading to St. Louis, MO to see my granddaughter and her new baby. They will be there for a week.
My son, Todd, is finally back from Kuwait. He is in quarantine for 2 weeks and will be able to return to him home either June 8th or 9th. Been gone for 5 months. His family is ready for him to be home.
Photo is a spider plant that is growing outside in a pot. They grow like a weed. I have none growing unless in pots or hanging baskets. And they are on irrigation. They stay outside year round.
Here are the photos of my weed ed before and after. Took me one hour. Had to actually remove each plant of silver dichondra, unwind the weed root and then replant the dichondra. I just sat down and went to it. I had been working on the bed about 10 minutes before I realized I was wasting my time and needed to slow down and think like a weed. Hehehe....As soon as I was finished I ran into the house, got out of my clothes and got in the shower. First to cool down and second to get clean.
Already for my bed time and you guys are probably already asleep.
Sharon - asleep? Me? nope lol
Betty - sorry that you didn't find the elastic.
Next Door? Sounds like a great concept - would be nice if we had it in Canada. I'm going to google it for here.
Found this, about NextDoor
"Nextdoor — founded in 2011 and already available in more than 237,000 neighbourhoods across the U.S., Europe and Australia — seems to be finally expanding into Canada. ... However, the platform has also been dogged by controversy that could dampen its Canadian debut.Aug 24, 2019"
And then I found that they are in Canada:

Sharon, that was a job. Sure looks pretty.
I haven't heard of that next door either.
Morning all, rained all night, suppose to rain off/on for the next week, cooler though, opened all the windows, will be nice to air the place out.
Melanie dropped in on her way to work at 6:30a.m. picked up her mask and the birthday present I had for her..
Did my walk through the gardens, loving the lush greens. Waiting til later so I can get the grass cut before rain starts up again.
I am hoping to repair a few garden pieces, make a solar hanging basket, maybe cut a birdhouse, maybe a family name pillow for Rob who is coming today to check out a/c,clean craft room..that ought to take up the day.
Sharon, quite the transformation..
Haven’t heard of next door either, will have to go see what is in our region..could be like our magazine that posts what people have and what they are looking for..comes out monthly, that is the drawback..
Ziggy wants in, gab in a bit
Thanks for the 'sleuthing' Susan .. I have read the article and shared the link with some friends.
Lorna, what can I say .. today she said she was going out for a wee while, half an hour later up the driveway she comes in her truck and trailer with a brand new WOOD CHIPPER !! She is going to TAKE UP all the LOW branches on the property and mulch them .. all I can think about is the movie FARGO !!!
We have approx. 4 acres cleared and surrounded by trees .. ya wanna bet she WILL do as she says ? Sharon, thank you for 'understanding' her desire to be 'digging in the dirt' .. she is a jewel, and has really strived to do well following her amputation.
Betty .. like Dianne, I could never live without A/C .. gets so humid here ..hope you get the fix, and, that you find elastic ..
HUGS
~M~
I understand Lorna wanting to keep moving. I very stubbornly insist on walking the stores even though I know it makes my leg cramps worse. If we've done several stores, I will eventually have to use an Amigo.
Carpet squares are going in as I speak. Never thought I'd see the day.

Storm just starting to move out of the area..still thundering but you can hear it further in the distance. Lordy just got leaves on the tree and wind is causing some to fall, glad it’s lessening the humidity. There are two shrubs that are next to a side arch, we’re beautiful with the white flowers, most on the ground now.
Lorna certainly is a heroine in my mind, she is not going to just sit..shaking my head no, she will give it her ALL..kudos to her as that is quite an undertaking.
Hurrah Karen, soon you can have your sewing room back..looking forward to a photo..are you (not you personally) laying it down or was that covered in the insurance to have someone do so?
Well I’ve accomplished all on my mornings task..Robert hasn’t come for a/c yet, he lives the other side of the city and drives to Barrie to do contracts for Greg so just maybe he is delayed and will have to come another day..ok with me...did make his pillow.Lordy this Covid19 is mellowing me out, getting so patient lol
Ray who comes to week my ditches was here earlier, we had a nice chat, he works full time where Melanie works and does landscaping part time..he looked at my trees and said he would like to cut more limbs..thInk if it were up to him the 2 large trees would be gone.i got the yard cut just before the rain started.
I decided seeing I have no elastic that I’d start another Christmas twisted scarf.had to go downstairs to get safety pins and thought I’d shut the lights out in the craft room, I had..I made a solar light basket and guess the solar light was charged, now where to put the basket that it will get light?
Betty, I have the cement molds for benches like the one you have near your arch. I have made several over the years.
I guess I need to watch Fargo, I don't think I've heard of it.
I was brushing Stanley this morning and he hissed at me, I blew in his face and that stopped his bad behavior. I wish he spent more time somewhere besides under the bed!! He prefers to be petted and rubbed, will tolerate being held as long as it goes with LOTS of his favorite petting.
He is adjusting well, Ziggy disappears for hours on end and doesn’t appear when I call..guess they find a comfy spot and makes it their home.
I have the mold as well Pat, the other near the pond I did in stained glass leftovers..did one for my BIL Paul..the one near the arch I just left natural, mega work to do as the other ones.
Keep looking at the clock, almost 7pm and I’m thinking of going to bed, sad for a Friday night lol
had a busy day outside - Bob cut in on some ground & put in some patio blocks - they're mottled grey/brown, and 16" square. They look like they have 4 paving stones. Anyway, he put 4 of them down into the side yard at the edge of our property, and when he fixes up the park bench, it will go there.
I planted some cabbages, tomatoes, and many varieties of peppers - red, green, chocolate, and hot peppers.
Tomorrow he's going to cut some lumber to finish making my planter boxes & I'll plant the morning glories. I have some starting in one of my planter boxes - hurray!
I just went out to cover my Gloriosa lilies - they're still pretty tender.
Sunday we're going to go west of Sundre - there's some limestone that slides off the mountains & we're going to pick some up for the yard. If we can find some flat enough, they might do for paving stones, or decorative borders to cover up some unsightly areas (like under the deck). We'll have to see what we fine.
Oh, and those lovely cleome I've been trying to get - not getting them. The vendor cut our garden center off - said they'd ordered too much. Wouldn't let me pay for them at the garden center & pick them up at the vendor's either. Our GC tried to make this arrangement.... I'm really grumpy about this - I've been trying for Three Years to get them, and each year it's the same - none available. The seeds I planted didn't "take" so not sure what to do now
I'll get some more seed & see how fast I can grow them.........
Good morning all..weekend time..rain off and on all day..I had opened windows last night to let fresh air in, cuddled into bed and slept like a babe, lordy 63 in the house this morning,,now I have the furnace on.lol
Karen what a lovely large room you have for your projects, you won’t have to leaves it..only thInk you need is a little bed so you can rest periodically.
Susan, frustrating for sure..maybe now the weather is warmer you can get seeds to grown, is there no other place you could order from? Bet your bench sitting area will be lovely.
I’m just about to take my bath, quick run to Foodland, just need a few things..their sale started Wednesday, they had some planters for $10, likely all sold out at that price.
Now weekend begins, I’m at a loss today, can’t work outside for a few days d.ue to weather, house is clean..only started project I’ve got sitting there is the flannel penguin quilt, not sure I want to look at it..bored and it’s just 7am
Tell me what you are all up to, perhaps there are ideas I can get from you??
Well Betty, there is a couch just around the corner. My only problem is it's really cold down there all the time. I bought my self a small heater to keep by me, helps a lot. Or right behind where I'm standing is a door to outside, I can go out and warm up a bit. Not easy being the only cold one in the house. Darned ole blood...or lack there of.
Know about the cold thing as well..cooler in my craft room but there is an electric fireplace in den,if I’m going to work for awhile I put it on.
When I have visitors in winter they always say how very hot it is in house, I like heat..
Just did all the floors wish specialty wash, its sooo damp the floors just are not drying.
I’m back to the couch knitting until floors dry..decided to do my bedding, Jaye gave me an outdoor ornament of Elvis one year, needed touch up so do8ng that, bet you can get the jist of just how bored I am lol
Watch the space launch today, how exciting for you all..I remember the launch to the moon..amazing.p on both!
I do hope all you my USA friends and your families are ok..I worry about you all..
Karen, I love your sewing room. Glad to see it finished.
Wow, I got a new phone yesterday. Tried to log into DG, and it kept telling me they didn't recognize my info. I sent a message just a bit ago to Betty on Facebook asking her to send an SOS to administrators.
Well, I tried one more time to log in before I went to bed, and all of a sudden I was allowed to log in.
Me too Linda. I have so much to get caught up on. Another great coming in Aug. needs a quilt.
Your craft and sewing area are wonderful Karen! ANd that is a beautiful combination for the QoV
I wish MY house was clean & tidy! HOWEVER I got a few minutes of work done on the back patio. Got the vertical storage unit put into place temporary. The art for the wall arrived. I had bought a piece and liked it so much I decided it went better IN the house. So bought something different for outside. the new one for patio wall: https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/fleur-de-lis-living-rustic-garden-w001074629.html
Beautiful art Pat.
Morning..holy wah, went outside and had to wear a coat, brrrrr
Sunmis in and out of the clouds, doubt it will be a play outside kind of day!
Karen, you are working non stop, love the quilt..when you are hand sewing binding can you get comfy enough on your front verandah?
Glad you are back on LIndakay,, wed miss you terribly if you couldn’t get back on.
Pat, what a beautiful piece..is the area this one will be set enclosed in area so elements don’t get to it? Breathtaking it is..do you have photo of the other one?
Was up early, made desert for supper, looked so good had to treat myself, am afraid by supper there might be none less lol. No cooking today, made a roast filled with potatoes & potatoes yesterday, made enough for an army, can’t adjust to cooking a meal for one.
Antsy again today, want to be doing something but nothing to do, really not even house cleaning or wash..best I can find is to sweep leave casings off front deck.. I did bring 8n the little kitchen window from very back, needs a new dishcloth curtain, that would be all of 10 minutes, washed all the patio set pillows, didn’t know how that fabric would take washing but ok..have to put pillows inside the outer casing, there goes another 10 minutes.
I’d love to be creative but what can I do?? Not watching t.v. As world is in such turmoil, distressing to say the least...
Just not liking being in this limbo
I’m sounding like a broken record!
Pat, that is very pretty.
Betty, sadly I've had to give up on the hand sewing. There was a poll on our QOV site as to who hand sews binding and who does by machine. Large number is by machine so I don't feel bad about it. Better I can make them at all.
Ahhh
I so enjoy sitting and hand sewing, relaxes me big time but understand why many cannot.
Was going to go to town put decided I’d find a few small things to do..I’ll have to post, Jaye (I think it was she) had sent me an Elvis garden toad, I sat and painted it, now to decide where to put it.. I just looked, few more garden gifts from a decade or so ago that I can fix, if I’m still bored I will paint a porch sign lol
I nicely done machine binding is good, stable and faster. A quilt DONE is FABULOUS anyway you bind it !!!
The art is supposed to weather proof, UV protected etc. It will hang in the patio but I have no illusions of no exposure. It stormed last night, high winds and driving rain. I sat on the back patio and watched the rain. Although I was against the far wall, some moisture reached me. I tried and tried to find the first piece on Wayfair, I found my receipt but it must no longer be carried. I'll have to snap a picture & post. The greens, yellow and pinks of it were just coordinated so beautifully in the living room I could not put it outside!
Betty!! Is that bread pudding I spy? OHHHHhh yum. Our first date Ben & I went to a restaurant, and after our meal, split a bread pudding for dessert. Bread pudding is comfort food for me. I enjoy a quick microwave bread pudding from scratch in the morning sometimes.
Linda, a new phone is a mixed blessing. I still have to go Utube to figure out the simpliest things on the new phone! Sounds like your issues were DG problems, but mine are operator error!
