Best/Worse/What did I learn Today? A place to chat with friends..always a chair by the Gardens for newcomers to join in..come sit a spell!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Can't say that I do remember Susan. Your bench turned out beautiful, great job!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

The bench & stonework is all down to Bob. I'm just the one who sourced out the free bench :) haha someone, when I asked if there was a park bench that someone wanted to give away, told me that there was a way to make a bench out of cinder blocks........ not Quite the look I was going for........ Can you see a cinder block bench in Betty's garden? Nope, didn't think so hahaha

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, suppose to be a lovely morning then rain moving in around noon..the good news is they were calling for rain for both Saturday and Sunday and now say it will have passed on.

Susan, Bob did a great job on the bench, total transformation..having cement slabs will make the bench a much sturdier place to sit... to get perspective, the bench sits closer to your neighbors area? Cinder block bench, I have the blocks in the far back to do one but then didn’t know where to heck I’d put it so there the blocks sit..I’ll find a project for them eventually.

Later today I will go over to sharon’s, she had ordered a few more solar fountains, 2 are for me..as well she had a company come in and lay large slate rocks in grey and dark grey for the walkway and they poured a slab of cement so come spring she can close the bottom in for a sitting area so it can be used during winter..anxious to see it..

tomorrow morning I’ll take a ride to Joanne’s, she lives about 1/2 hour from me, has baby lilac saplings and some lily of the valley so I can plant.

Dianne how is Diesel this morning?

LIndakay did the quilting shop get the long arm fixed?

Bet Karen is sewing up a storm

Deb,how are things going, any news on the job lead you had

Sharon, lower temps today?

What do you all have planned for the day?

“M” did the shot help Lorna?

Debbie,Judy and Liz, (who am I forgetting???)

If I sit here much longer my bath water will be cold so best I get a move on then I can start my day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful bench Susan.
Betty, i haven't been back to the quilt shop. Going in this afternoon. Hopefully it is running good.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Does the owner keep your piece on the frame till you get it done?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Karen is sewing up a storm. Got 4 QOVs ready just putting on labels today. Hand work I can do out on the porch.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Nothing on the job front, yet. Just finished getting my resume updated. The company provided a guy to help me with that. Trying to figure out how I could afford things, and stay home permanently, but, I don't think that is possible. I had never thought seriously about retiring before, but, now, it's a whole different story!

It was supposed to be a big day today, our local Afghan hound club had scheduled our shows for today, and being on my birthday, I had hoped for a really great day. But, with shows cancelled, nothing going on. My daughter said she would stop by on her break, and my son is having a cookout tomorrow. Was trying to think of something fun to do today, but, on my own, and, without a job, I'm hesitant to go anywhere that might cost money, and even the thought of using extra gas has staying close to home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Happy Birthday Deb, wonder why it didn’t show up..marking my calendar now..hope something nice happens to you today..birthdays are special!
I did the odd thing for my BIL Paul, always had extra $$$ to basically support all of my hobbies and travel..different now
Here is hoping something comes once you start putting your resume’s out there.

Karen, sounds like you are exhausting yourself..

Verona, ON

Happy Birthday Deb. Diesel, Chaos and I wish you peace, love, health and happiness.

Whoo Hoo Karen's found her groove again. You must be just delighted to be able to sit on the porch and do your hand work.

Love the bench Susan. John did a great job.

Betty you are sending your rain to me. It is supposed to rain here tomorrow. Today is a picture perfect day 78* nice breeze.

Diesel seemed better yesterday than today. But he did get himself in a situation in his yard overnight. Their yard has pea gravel to walk on. But there is a small dip at the 1 end and he slid getting himself in a position he couldn't get out of. When Keiran came this morning he helped me lift Dies up and out He's in the house now but last night he wanted to stay outside overnight.

Hope you have better luck today LK when you go to the quilt shop.

Stay safe and well.

I spent 2 hours of pruning, weeding, deadheading & planting yesterday and then paid my helper to get it all in the garbage for me.
My Covid-19 test came back negative so I will go to the office today and catch up with printing and mailing.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh my God Dianne, You must have been beside yourself, poor Diesel..That is not a good sign is it when they decide to stay out? How is his fever has it broken? Hugs I’m sure you need them.

Getting tired of getting up to let the cat in , two seconds later and he wants out grrr

The test you had for Covid Pat is that the one they go down your nose?? Sounds painful is it?how often must you get it done...are you caught up on gardening now?

Glass window is so scratched..glad I have a screen door that the screen is on top or it would be shredded... awhile ago I opened door to let him in and it was almost like he wanted me to follow him, maybe I will.

Had no sweets left, too lazy to go to grocery store so I thought I’d make something, easiest is bread pudding, only thing I had s frozen fruit, added it, wonder if it will turn out

Victoria Harbour, ON

Greg is home, guy at his work’s wife had Covid so he had to be tested and now home til he gets results..said test no fun, they put a q tip 3” up your nose

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty I'm having too much fun to be exhausted. Today was a porch day for hand work. Usually don't sew on the week-end. Maybe start the newest greats quilt on Mon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I can see you smiling from here

Opted for t.v. Dinner, had nothing sweet but did have a bag of frozen berries, made jello and threw some in, then made bread pudding, no raisins or cranberries so added frozen berries to it a well..saw Cathy and her mom walking, her mom had a handful of wild flowers she had picked so we chatted from afar then Ann walked over, she had placed an order at Pizza Palace so was nice.

Tired out, Ziggy usually hears me go to bed then joins me, tonight he is laying waiting for me lol

Taking a ride tomorrow morning early to visit Joanne, 45 minute drive..she is usually the one who visits me but my turn..we are both early risers so I should be back around 10:30..says she has lilac saplings and some lily of the valley for me, both my favourites..not sure where I shall plant the lilacs but I’m sure I’ll find a spot.

We were to have rain this afternoon, think it might have passed us bye and Dianne has it, had hoped we would get some..

Personally I didn't think the Covid testing was a big deal. Yes, they used a swab up your nostril. Hey, beats a Pap smear!

I am not required to be tested but after being really sick for a day, I felt it best to KNOW that it was or wasn't Covid. That is why I opted to be tested. So, unless I come down sick again, likely will not be tested again.

Not really caught up but close enough that it feels good. I have a BIG border that I want to cover in weed barrier. I had hoped to have the new sprinkler system in place this year, THEN put down barrier and rock but it won't happen this year. bummed.

Tomorrow DSisIL and I are going to make at least one more headboard project (this time a big planter box) and a big wooden box for next to the door for packages. My oldest has been asking for this for a year! I had hoped to get at least one or two small walls painted in the patio but we've had paint so that was a no go.

To those of you with health concerns, dogs & sisters and more, you are in my prayers.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - the white you see behind the bench is the neighbour's skirting of her mobile.
Yes, Dianne - I'm very proud of the job my darling Bob did on the whole setup of the bench's spot. He's nothing if not thorough at getting things "just right".
You must have been beside yourself with worry about Diesel falling in the gravel, given that his legs bother him so.

I'm going for a jet tub, then bed. These muscles will stiffen up tomorrow if I don't. Need to do more clearing of a weed & grass patch in the garden. Moved the potting table & sink, plus a 25lb bag of soil & another one of peat moss.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, rain missed us..

I do hope Pat that you will post photo’s of your projects, you are so talented in revamping trash to treasure... your imagination has no bounds. As for Covid test, you know men, medical issues always worse.

Susan, Imiss my hot tub that was in basement..I guess I should have put a jet tub in when I redid the washroom but didn't..big sigh. We sure are hard on ourselves.

Checked weather, they now say this afternoon, that will put a damper on my schedule but maybe not as I’m planning on planting those lilac saplings Joanne will give me so a light rain would help.

Bath time, coffee, do my hair and time permitting I will give the hanging baskets a drink so best I get a move on. Will look to see how big line up is at Home Depot, want to purchase one of those metal 4x4x holders so I can get a birdhouse up in front garden

Enjoy your day and hugs prayers for those in need

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy birthday Deb. Praying you get a job soon.

Yes, the long arm is pretty new, and she hasn't advertised it yet, so the quilt will stay there till I get back to it. Still waiting on someone to come and fix it.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh... Linda, the waiting is the worst! Fortunately where I rent their repair guy is on site and will come over immediately but it's not been available since the whole COVID thing.
Dianne, how is Diesel doing now?

I am going to check forecast and hope I have good weather for the next couple of days so I can paint a small area, at least get STARTED, I am so anxious to see what the color will look like on the walls. I've waited YEARS to be able to have a house a soft green color, always my favorite!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

All is well in Las Vegas. Was in the low 100s but now in the low 80s. I gardened all day Thursday with my garden helper in low 100s. But I am used to it and I have a lot of shade to wok in and I just follow the shade. Moved a lot of plumerias back from the direct afternoon sun into partial shade. I have a very large jade to repot today but have some dog and house chores I need to do first.

Dianne, I feel so bad for Diesel. My Cecil is having problems getting up on the foot stool on the back patio where he likes to sit. I am ordering him some Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM from Chewy. My neighbor used it on her dog and it really helped. Vet said it would not hurt him.

Pat my roof tile and any metal around the structure of my home is green. I love it. When I had my house repainted, I was shocked how the house just sucked up the paint. Took a lot more than I expected. Have a wonderful time. Then sit back and enjoy the view of your new green wall.

Betty, I hope you had a wonderful trip and visit with your sister and friend.

Happy Birthday Deb. After Vern died, a year ago last week, I sat his son down and went over his expenses because he was running out of money. Some of the places I saved him money was on car insurance. They were ripping him off. I reduced his cable bill. I have him on my cell phone plan, but check that. I also redid his supplement medicare insurance premium. Your auto insurance should reduce your insurance now because you are not working. Just call them and explain the situation and tell them you will notify them when you go back to work.

Susan, Bob is a Jewel. One time there was a guy here at the house doing some things. He was inside and out. Vern asked me what he was doing. I told him he was completing you honey do list. By the way, Happy Birthday Honey.

Betty you need another plant like I need another plant.

My cat just came to tell me it is time to feed the dogs. She know right after their breakfast we go for a walk. She is one smart cat.

I tried to load to photos, which I down loaded on other thread, and it won't let me.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

♫♪Happy Birthday, Deb♪♫

My hubby has his own "to do" list, I just encourage him to complete what he wants to do 💖

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone. A gorgeous day ahead of us.

Yesterday we had 2 T&L storms come through. We even had hail at 1 point. I was so worried about my Poppies are they will soon be open but they seemed to have weathered the storm. At least the storm helped eliminate the muggy heat. Did you get it Betty?

Thank you everyone who has asked about Diesel. His temperature is down some and he is much more alert. But he cannot put any weight on his 1 hind leg so I made a sling. I hold his back legs up with that so he can move. The pain meds help but they wear off quickly. The vet can now give him something stronger this week. I thought I was helping Dies by giving him low dose aspirin but that prevented the vet from giving Diesel something stronger. I have a dilemma on my hands. I will happily take him through the Lymes treatment and see if that will help with his hips and legs. But I also have to think about Diesel's quality of life.We lead an active outdoor life here and if he can't join us am I really giving him his 'best' life.

I am so sorry to be laying this all on of you but my heart is so heavy right now. Thank you for listening.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, sure do hope you will have the sunshine day I’ll have, on cool side though..left windows open last night, fan over my bed going and woke up to 64f, brrr

Relaxing a bit trying to get a plan of action in place for the day:

know I want to get those birdhouses out into the gardens so the hole I dug has to be filled with cement then add the metal 4x4 holder..I would think I cannot get the birdhouse up until tomorrow

Get the little water feature going is front garden

Use up leftover cement to make hands

Cut grass

Sooo lots to keep me from being bored, now let’s see just how many I get done

Dianne, how is Diesel?

What plans do you have for the day?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh Dianne, My heart is with you. We are on the same page with our Molly. Every day we sit with her and ask is it time? She's gotten terribly matted from always sitting in the same position. Tomorrow we have a groomer coming to shave her down. She only wants to be on the front porch so we will sit with her while she's groomed. I think she will be more comfortable with all this heat having less hair.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - so sad that you're going through this with Diesel. I don't know what else to say, other than my prayers are with you.

Rainy day, so it's perfect for housecleaning, and that's what I'm going to do now

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, it is never an easy decision to make. But you will know if and when it is time.
Did you ever get the Bravecto for the dogs. It will keep them from getting anymore.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I always prayed that the decision would be clear, not the agony of indecision. I guess I was "lucky" in that one day my 17 YO cat was fine & the next day she was NOT. Never any easy decision, but when you KNOW, what is best it is not as painful.

Victoria Harbour, ON

We must have cross posted Dianne..

My heart is aching for you..these are overwhelming times for sure. You have such a caring heart that you will know when it’s time.

Sailor my border collie always had a ball in her mouth, always wanting me to play with her..a few days before I made the decision I tried to play ball with her but she just laid looking up at me so knew it was time.

Mel and I did FaceTime last night, Ned was right their listening and getting excited when I’d cLl his name...he is not the same, he is mourning Sophie.

No Dianne, although it felt like it was brewing but it passed on and moved over to your neck of the woods.

Karen here is hoping the grooming will make things more comfortable for Molly.

Inside work is good Susan lol

I’ve spent all morning out, didn’t wait for 10 a.m. just now came in for a break

Heavy lifting that bag of cement out of the trunk but got it out and mixed. it, was as much left over as I hoped so will leave a few projects til next I buy another bag...had a few mushrooms that the stems had broken off, not sure if the repair work will fix or if I’ll have to make new ones.

Got the front rock water feature working, plan was to have a bite to eat then cut grass but spoke to Rita fir 1/2 hour, now comfy on couch and think I’ll pass on the grass cutt8ng..tomorrow is another day right?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Dianne, do you have Diesel on a glucosamine supplement? I had a rescue that I fostered for a few months that had lymes, and he was on glucosamine. It was a people one that I got from Sam's club, but it seemed to help. Also try DGP, my holistic vet has my girl with bad hips on it, and it helps her, and my daughter uses it on her dog with bad knees (it's available on Amazon). Turmeric may help, too. It's never easy, all you can do is the best you can. Swimming would be good for his leg, I know you live on a lake, is that a possibility? He could exercise it, without supporting his weight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great ideas Deb..
Called mom, it would have been my step father Jim’s birthday today so knew it would be a hard day for her..she had been outside since 8:30 working 8n her yard, and people wonder where I get the non stopping??

Tummy is churning so going for bath then get comfy in bed

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, wow can’t believe it’s already noon...perfect day, light breeze and sunshine..gardens are coming to life..sad that only I get to enjoy their beauty!

Managed to get the birdhouse up in front garden, cut grass and watered the gardens..just had lunch and trying to determine what my next to do will be...was thinking perhaps a nap might be in order before I take on 2nd part of the day.

Kyle dropped in last night, had been to Ottawa to purchase a new trailer..Lordy I could live permanently in one of those...wonder if they will open up camping grounds soon?

What are you up to today?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have been to town to get groceries, came home to put them away, then back to see my dr for lab results follow up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Were they good resuits LIndakay?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

After work my SIL stopped by and she gave me one of her spare palm sanders and we had dinner together.
I have an abscessed tooth and it is killing me. I don't think I explained myself clearly enough to oral surgeon's office. I will have to call tomorrow and explain I am in PAIN and I need the surgery NOW, not 10 days from now! My DDS prescribed antibiotic and I hoped it would ease the pain.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Test results are good.

Sorry to hear about your tooth. Praying the antibiotics clear it enough to get your surgery soon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning, sunshine day here..heat warning in effect for today and tomorrow, sure hope Rob who has the replacement part for my a/c is in the area otherwise I’ll just complain for a day or 2 as temps lower by thursday.

Pat sure hope they have emergency openings and you can have it removed like ‘today’. Nice you were able to enjoy supper with your sister.

LIndakay, how is the repair to long arm going? Bet you are antsy to get back to it.

Why is it I always seem to sleep in on Tuesday mornings then have to run like the dickens to get garbage bags to the roadside..when they say pick up is 7 they mean 7, I just made it.

Chores are done, when you spend all day outside working no mess is being made inside so now I’m free to play..

Have a bit of weeding left to do, have 6 masks to make, would like to repair the gazebo looking birdhouse that needs new roof and maybe finish the birdhouse that my nephew cut for me from old table extension boards..that ought to fill the day..
Like the birdhouse I set out in front garden..

Neighbor is on a clean up rampage again, cut down a large tree that was dead, brought in equipment and cleaned it all up, had a big trailer filled to brim with junk,
He works hard. His wife never goes outside, twin girls are now teenagers, I never see them out, adult son was out helping last night, first time I’ve seen him in years, 2 girls under 5 I hear in backyard from time to time..all indoor people..just seems off to me. The 2 homes across the street never have their curtains open, that would drive me nuts.

Well I’d best get dressed and start on my list..
First thInk is determine how big the birdhouse hole must be lol

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh Pat - OUCH on the tooth! Yes, hope they can do something NOW!
Betty - I've always said, I don't understand people who live IN their house, and not the community. We have neighbours like that here. You only see them when they get in or out of their car.

Yesterday I found out that my fall from the e-bike wasn't just a bruised rib - it's cracked. Can't be too bad though - it's been a week, and it's just discomfort.

Today, it's supposed to NOT rain, so I'll be back out in the garden. No, I won't overdo it 😔😘

Victoria Harbour, ON

Holy wah Susan, your hard on your body..you try and do too much..Bob will be tying you to a chair before too long. Hope discomfort eases off.

Calling for rain tomorrow as well..got that primitive birdhouse that Brian cut and gave me, not spending mega time on it that’s for sure, also did 6 masks for Melanie, watered gardens and other than that it’s been couch time.

Last night I cooked a TV dinner, wasn’t hungry so I ate the chocolate cake and set t.v. Dinner in refrigerator..it was my lunch lol

Jim from the city, was a coworker had a German Shepard, no kid so Kilo was his furry child, he is beyond sad..

Time to water gardens

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, machine is working. I was there today for a few hours, quilt is about 2/3rds done. Will finish it tomorrow. Just doing some meandering on it.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Will be anxious to see it finished, Linda.
