Best/Worse/What did I learn Today? A place to chat with friends..always a chair by the Gardens for newcomers to join in..come sit a spell!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hahahaha Betty, Bob's the one who said just to get on the bike and "ride" hahaha and besides - do you think anyone could tie me down to a chair and tell me not to do something? It would be just as easy to do the same thing to YOU! 🤣

Morning, torrential rains here this morning, high humidity so an inside day..think I’ll tackle downstairs..bones sure paining, weather for it!

Grrr Ziggy gets me up at 5 and decided he didn’t want to brave the storm , now he is resting and I’m awake.

Look forward to seeing your quilt done, are you enjoying the long arm quilting!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, I am enjoying the learning experience. It is a whinny the pooh panel, someone made, and brought it in for quilting. My stitches are not perfect, but the client knows I am just learning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

The more you do the better at it you will become..is her long arm one you can program the design

Storm has stopped for now, very humid

Think I’ll do my hair, my nails and get dressed.. treat myself lol

Verona, ON

Good afternoon everyone.

We had a pretty good rain with just some T&L this morning. I was able to get Diesel inside before the rain started. Now it is sunny and breezy. Weather Liars say high of 85* Like you Betty it is very humid here.

Thank you everyone for your concern and suggestions for Diesel's well being. He has taken Glucosamine ever since he was a puppy. I was toying with the the idea of adding Turmeric in his daily routine. I take Turmeric and I find it very helpful with my arthritis. He is much more active after a week of meds. The vet added a second pain killer so he had his first dose this morning. This 1 is a liquid so is much easier to get down him.He actually ventured out of their yard yesterday and then today just a bit farther. I know we will have some ups and downs but I am encouraged by what I see. He still isn't too keen on eating unless I hand feed him.Not sure if he is yanking my chain but at least he is getting something down.

LK you must be getting excited to see your quilt in its totality. I am looking forward to seeing a photo of it finished.

FB said it was your birthday yesterday Karen. Happy Birthday.

Judy come out, come out wherever you are. I miss your posts.

Oh Susan cracked ribs hurt as much as ones that are broken. I usually manage to crack ribs when I am moving wood in the winter.. This year I didn't.... hope I just didn't jinx myself.

Deb sending positive thoughts about your job search.Your dogs must be very happy to have you home all day.

Sharon how hot is it for you today ? I have friends who teach in Cairo but when they come home they find the heat here difficult. It's the humidity.

Pat did you get into the office ? I would imagine handling your case load from home is difficult.

Stay safe and well. ~~~~ to everyone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, no, there is no computer program on the longarm. I wish. I just did a meandering on the quilt. It is done.

I had two beautiful days in the garden. weather was in the 80s. Now back up to 100s. Crazy weather. I was planning on finishing what I started yesterday but a neighbor that had a 1 month stay in the hospital, on a ventilator for 12 days, is stopping by to chat. He and his wife moved in 6 months ago and she wants her front garden to look like mine. Not going to happen.

Pat, an abscessed tooth is extremely dangerous. Pleased you got to have supper with your sister.

So pleased that Diesel is doing better. My male schnauzer is having some kind of problem with his legs. I just started him on the glucosamine with a few other supplements. He is on his third day and already showing improvement.

Susan, cracked ribs are very painful. Yu must be one touch old woman.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Looks great Linda, you can be proud of your work.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you Karen.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hahahaha tough old woman, indeed! Yup, that would be me. You gave me quite a laugh with that one, Sharon - and no, it didn't hurt at all. My funny bone is in good shape hahaha

Victoria Harbour, ON

Want to respond to your posts, quite steep storm passing through, worse will be between 8-11 pm

Getting things ready incase I lose power

Be safe those in the path of stor,,limbs breajpking from trees, guess I’ll have clean up tmr

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Please take care Betty - hope you don't lose power. One of the worst things is to not have light. Heat, in the summer, isn't such a worry. It's why we have a gas stove - can still make meals when the power goes out.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone, had quite a storm last night and during the night. I open the windows when I went to bed knowing that the temps will drop in the fresh air will do me good, about 2 o’clock in the morning the wind came up in the trees were bending..About 4 o’clock I got up and looked out and watched the rain and the wind and wondered how much cleanup this morning, just branches to pick up so we weathered the worse of the storm. It’s quite cool out there, bones are paining because of the dampness. Dianne, did the storm hit your region? Is the TH terrified of storms? sailer would get under the bed and fret for hours..

Great job on the throw LIndakay, know it will be treasured for sure..so wished you lived closer, we could all have so much fun in the sewing room.ill be glad when the girls can get back here..maybe I’ll ask them if they want to come Tuesday.

Sharon, don’t think people understand the amount of time that goes into a gardens like yours and the years for all to mature..tell her she can come, you will teach her and give her chores that will make it easy for you.

Dianne how is Diesel?

What to do, have that primitive birdhouse my nephew gave me that I put together and triangle slats for the another, maybe I’ll do that a little later

Not sure I mentioned it but had trouble with Rogers, am on the phone almost every 2 days trying to get up and running..yesterday they made appt for tmr between Noon and 2, I have to be only person in house, wear a mask, repairman will be garbed from head to toe..hoping they finally fix it.

And how about your day?

Winds up again

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear damage was minimal. Hopefully you get your cable fixed.

Not doing much today. Going to get my nails done. That's it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just came in for a break, lots of branches and limbs..almost all in firepit...having coffee then back up..yikes, can almost wear a jacket..what a change from yesterday.

Darlene’s backyard overlooks a cemetery, quite serene and divides by trees..1 hit the neighbors fence and shed and the other Darlene’s fence, all her garden pretties, side of shed so I’m blessed I’m just picking up branches and limbs

Looks like another round of rain and wind, sun came out for a few minutes and now so dark

I’ll go finish clean up then relax

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear your damage was not that bad.
Sorry to hear about Darlenes damage.

Verona, ON

Heavy rain overnight with winds. No real fall that I can see. I'm not wandering too far as I don't want to leave Diesel. It's really windy right now.

No Betty the TH are not afraid of storms. I usually gather them with me in a room and play music. If it happens in the middle of the night they usually sleep through it.

LK the quilt is cute. Good for you !!

Oh Pat I hope you can get in sooner to the dentist. I don't envy your wait.

It's interesting that Chaos doesn't want to go too far without Diesel. Today they are both in my bedroom. I keep a recliner in there where I often read. Diesel is sleepy today but it is the first day he has had the full dose of his new pain med. I think tomorrow I will space out how I deliver the 3 different pain meds. He always gets 1 at night but this morning I gave him both his pill and the full dose of the drops at the same time.

It's 1 of those days I just don't want to do anything. I made sure the kitchen was tidy but my energy left me after that. It's just cuddle time with the TH.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That kind of day for sure Dianne, I was all gung ho this morning nut now I’m forcing myself to do odd thing...glad you had no damage.

Chaos I’m sure can sense Diesel isn’t well, not a bad day to just relax..are you still working on your needle work?

Sharon talked to the stroke doctor, the doc feels that it was a stroke and is sending her for mri.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Chilly here today. Tried to sew but got too cold. Went upstairs and wrapped in a blanket. Managed to snooze a bit but still not very warm. I really don't think the iron infusions helped me all that much.

This message was edited Jun 11, 2020 3:57 PM

Victoria Harbour, ON

No fun when you are chilled to the bone and no sunshine to warm you up..for you to not sew you must be listening to your body, that is good news..I have furnace on, brrr chilly.

Had a visitor today, squirrel with light tail was putting on a show at the feeder.

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, do you take a daily iron pill?

Betty, that squirrel sure is pretty.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes Linda I do and have for years but it doesn't seem to help me either. Dr said he wanted me to call if I felt the iron was low again but you know it's a pain in the drain. I'd have to go for a blood draw, then two doses of the liquid rust a week apart then a follow up blood draw and another appointment to discuss the findings. Basically it didn't make a difference before and I don't see it making a difference now. I have no patience with their try this and come back in a month. I did that with the chronic runs for a year and never did get resolution. I've just had to adjust my lifestyle to deal with it. And make sure I always know where the nearest bathroom is

This message was edited Jun 11, 2020 9:45 PM

Betty - Bob was saying that those squirrels are in Montreal area. I had to show him cuz I've never seen or heard of a 2 tone squirrel.

I think my yard is Finished! Now, to keep it maintained and wait for it to get more mature each year. Nice feeling.
Our neighbour Carol, whose been in Cuba since November, says that her ex put the skirting on her place well, and there are no mice or cats under her place..... well, sorry to say but I'm laughing at her - her ex did a terrible job putting the skirting on - it flaps in the wind and really rotten wood. Cats wander through like it's a hotel. She was supposed to return in May, but likely won't get an international flight until December. Air Canada is talking about not operating International from Cuba until Dec - before Christmas. Oh well...... her choice to leave her place look shabby. Has a friend come over to mow her lawn, that's about all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everybody, it is so cold here, I need a winter coat on. It is not a wonder why I have the sniffles for several days it was so hot and humid in these last days I just haven’t checked but wouldn’t think it would be in the 50s yet this morning thank God for my furnace.

That Karen, sorry you are unwell ,sounds so dangerous, I know it takes a lot of energy to have these tests done and go back and forth for testing but you can’t live without iron, that is very worrisome. I’m sure since you’ve had it you’ve tried absolutely everything natural or meds to help, maybe you can find the one that helped you the most and get back on it. Being silly because I know that you have tried everything and will continue to try everything that I worry about you.

Susan wants those critters find a home like under a trailer it will be hard to dissuade them from living there. Hard to believe that they can’t get a flight home I thought that if it was for the purpose of getting to your own home you could do so during Covid?

Just too cold to be working outside at least this morning I’m not sure what the forecast for the rest of the day or the weekend will be the only thing I have to do is the wedding quilt on the frame, could play with that but after all these months of being home I’m starting to be at the end of projects, imagine that..

Not sure if I mentioned it but Rogers called last night to say that they could not come today between noon and two and with that be OK that they move it on to Monday, After calls to three times a week to get me back lying for TV and phone sometimes Internet I told them no absolutely not they had someone who had the garbs to come in the other day when they made the appointment or they wouldn’t of made the appointment and I did not want it pushed till Monday he said he would email his manager but as yet I haven’t gotten a call to see if they will or will not come today I imagine not!

Hope it is warmer in your neighborhood, enjoy the day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Can't believe they are trying to put you off Betty. I would have demanded them to show up.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

YIKES! I am so behind in responding!

I got the oral surgery yesterday. They took out tooth & packed with bone, they did not put the post in for the implant, not when I had an infection. With pain meds I am doing OK. Nothing crunchy, small bites and NO carbonation. NO carbonation may be death of me! My sweet son bought me a bunch of different flavor packets for water. I will have to call ask about the moratorium on carbonation and why.

Sounds like several of you have been experiencing storms. Betty, I can't imagine you running out of projects! Guess you will have to resort to shopping for your supplies online.

Being put off by companies is the pits. You paid for service you are NOT getting. Have you asked them to adjust your bill? I would! Unreliable service (phone, internet, cable) are worse than none. When you can't count on them, it's soooo aggravating! Is there any other company that services your area?

LOVE the Winnie Pooh quilt top, so cute. I have a number of quilt tops that I would like to be able to go quilt but that is just one of the many things on hold with COVID-19.

Having chronic health issues and feeling like a guinea pig is no fun. Karen, I am surprised you didn't get some relief with the iron infusions, my sister always did. If you can't get warmed up, put a blanket into the dryer and heat it up, then wrap up in it. That is what they would do for me in the hospital.

Years ago I was asked to help design a garden "that was as beautiful as yours" but "Low maintenance" RIGHT... lol

Sorry to hear Carol's faith in her EX regarding the skirting was ill-founded. I used to laugh and explain "Wellllll…. just another reason he's my EX!" I had nightmares about him just recently. I don't usually get them unless I have had to deal with him.

Stanley has been heaven sent. I am experiencing ALL the reasons why I postponed getting a pet but it's still worth it! I brush him EVERY day and he still leaves hair everywhere. I am going to order some of the oral stuff that is supposed to help reduce shedding. His Kitty tower came and he eventually warmed up to it but still won't use any of the scratching posts.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pat, my cat didn't take to the scratching post/climber. I found a Catnip spray at the pet supply. Just a couple squirts and he was all over that thing. Once he found out how fun it was he loves and uses it a lot.

Betty do call the cable company and insist they credit you for the down time. They will if you ask but of course they aren't going to volunteer.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

He's really using the tower, took him a while. He a very cautious kitty. He is just not the scratching post parts and I have sprayed it with catnip. Just not interested but I am holding on to hope!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you had your surgery, and praying for a quick healing.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pat - here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Oral surgery is not for the faint of heart.
Betty - Carol WOULD have gotten home May 6th, but the flight was full. She really didn't want to leave - she's married a Cuban, and wasn't set to leave for Canada until May 17, but Air Canada cut off their International flights as of May 6th.
I agree - get a rebate on your cable bill - the reason for the delay is inexcusable. Can't make an appointment if you're not ready for it, and obviously they should be prepared when they made it.

My immature perennial garden & yard now just have to mature. I pretty much have all the plants I want to be planted, planted. I have a feathery looking plant in the front that's gotten pretty large, and has some small daisy-like flowers starting to bloom. It's almost big enough it looks like a small bush hahaha Can't remember the name of it.
Funny thing - our newest neighbour, 3 doors down is Karoleigh.(pronounced Carol Lee) and next door to us is Carol. Our neighbour 2 doors down is now surrounded by Carol & Karoleigh 🤣 Karoleigh is engaged to a fellow by the name of Bob, on Long Island, NY (no telling when they'll be able to get together for the wedding now), and across the street from us is a Bob, too. So, there will be 3 Bobs in our Park, eventually.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning everyone, it’s a lovely day out there sons out but a little cool but a great day for working so I’ve been out doing the grass and I’m half done the trimming and I’m not quite sure what to do.

I will be pulling out so many flowers they are tall stems that bloom in the fall with humungous yellow flowers, have to say they’re beautiful In their own place but when they start taking over the gardens I have to pull them out what his thing is that facing the front in the back area it has a little fence about 8 feet that maybe I should dig up because these plants seem to live in anything and just shove them in there that way it would hide the fencing.

Did make up my mind though that although I love all the trees I’m going to have to cut down some limbs I’m not getting enough sun. Maybe next time that Darlene comes her and John can bring their specialties saw and cut some of the limbs for me it’s starting that even the solar lights won’t work because of the lack of sun.

Now that the sun is out near where that chair set is that I painted I will give a few coats of finish to it before it gets dirty.

Pat hope you are feeling better today less pain, I have to say that when I hear everyone talking about the dentist I’m almost happy that I’ve had dentures since I’ve been about 19.

I Ziggy did not take to the post nor did he take to the scratching pad but did take to my furniture which I’m not happy about, corners of the chairs and couch have threads dangling. When I got Missy back a few years ago she was declawed and I didn’t have to worry about anything and she was a hunter didn’t seem to bother her to get up and down trees and fight off predators.

Susan how many homes are there in your subdivision? Yes just maybe even one person missing when it’s a small community makes a big difference especially if there’s a lot of seniors and none are outside people. Won’t be long I’ll be able to do Carol justice as the peonies will soon open. I should’ve bought a few more but this year there’s no good pickings for plants in fact yesterday I ended up buying a fern for that big frame in the back, not quite sure how ferns do in the sunshine but we’ll see.

I did call Rogers last week and told him about my problems from April and May and the best she said she could do was give me $45 off my bill. Because they didn’t come Friday and I’ve had lotta service again two or three more times and had to play to get it up and running I will call again in June and ask for a reduction.

Sure would be nice to get all the yard trimmed by one so after lunch I can start picking plants out and either throwing away or replanting..sooo need to divide some
Hostas.

Well I best get off the couch, break is over.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Raining too hard to do much. I should have picked up my mess as I went yesterday but I thought I'd have Gab over to do that. I am NOT going to ask him to work in the rain.

The humidity is way too high for me to do any painting. Guess I will be doing some more inside work today. I deadheaded roses and pruned up a few things last night before the storm. Cut one small bouquet. I don't cut flowers usually, I prefer them IN the garden but since I was cutting the roses off anyhow, why not a bouquet. Not enough for ONLY roses so filled with other flowers.
1There are more lilies in the bouquet than show, they have not opened yet.
2. Stanley's tower
3. The grommet curtains I trimmed out to replace the sliding doors that were a pain.

Oh Betty - yes, I have 2 peonies in my front yard, in memory of Carol Rogers, from Calgary.
We don't live in a sub-division, we live in a hamlet of about 200 people. Highway 27 (one lane each way) runs right through Torrington, and has the main part of Torrington on the south side and our mobile home park is on the north side of the highway. We have 3 streets, 4 avenues. We also have a Firestation (with first responders), post office (in the same bldg as the Fire hall), a senior's apartment block (6(?) apartments in it, a Senior's Hall, Community Centre, an Arena (with curling & skating rinks), the World Famous Gopher Hole museum, Convenience Store (with 1 gas pump), car & truck service station, a campground (6 spots) and a fertilizer plant. We will soon have an Equestrian riding stable for "challenged" kids & adults.
We are 20 min from a town of 3,000 to the east, and 30 min from a town of 9,000 to the west.

Pat, mother nature is trying to tell you it’s a day of rest for you. Love the bouquet of flowers, I’m much like you I prefer leave them in the garden however the odd time when there’s quantity I do Cut a bouquet, not much out there I can pick right now. Great way to close in the laundry room shelving, brilliant!

Susan it sounds like a really nice handle it so I’m sure when someone is the way it makes a big difference. Victoria Harbour is a tad larger than that and because it’s so close to Midland they’ve started building mega housing complex will soon be part of Midland if it keeps this up. They tell me that the new seniors complex which has I think in the 30s one bedroom apartments will be opening before Christmas that will be so nice for so many as there’s Very little accommodation at reasonable rates for seniors.

Not much more I can do in my gardens they’ve been weeded, trimmed, grass cut, outdoor furniture wiped down..looks beautiful out there.

In one corner way back that I never go to I stop finding oh my God it must be over an inch thick long long pieces so I’ve been pulling them down and wondering if I can make a nice reasonable to put somewhere, if it doesn’t work out I can always put it in the fire pit. I was going to save all the limbs that are in the fire pit to burn tonight but I know me, after working in the garden all day I’ll likely not see dark so I lit a fire early morning.

Paul called yesterday to say his boat tarp split in 2, the tarp companies are so busy it’s a year to 2 years before he can get one made..what a challenge, got all done except for one long piece that I can see light through so best repair that before it whips,.think that all that is holding the tarp together is my stitches, every year he says it will be it’s last year then Sumer goes by and he puts it away and not till spring does he remember he should have had it done.

Posted I had plants I was trying to get rid of, those yellow flowered ones that grow a good 8-10 feet, no need to support them, had a few friends who said they would drop in to pick some up..better than pulling and putting in burning pit.

Greg and Mel are camping this weekend, no more than 5 miles away..Kyle bought a new 25’ trailer and he and Jen are camping next to them. Kyle and Jen had to work today but being so close to work makes it easy. They camped in their yard a month or so ago so being in a park even a few miles from home is exciting right now.

Thought a should think of supper but not that hungry, had a chocolate bar instead

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Right now ice cream or milk chocolate melting in my mouth feels the best. I can't bite without pain, although chewing isn't bad.

Rain stopped and I have been outside. I have a man delivering a child's bedroom set that I am going to be salvaging for various projects. I have projects set up in the garage ready for me to start painting. I am gradually making headway inside and out.

Did I tell you my son helped me figure out one of the problems with my camera? I wasn't putting lithium batteries in it!! and the regular weren't strong enough even brand new. And then, my card chip was full and I had to find another one. If something requires any technology, I can screw it up!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Don’t feel bad about not being computer savvy, I’m not good with such things either..glad you are making headway, sure encourages you to take on more projects..can’t wait to see what your next project will be.

What an afternoon

Told Greg it’s time for nursing home lol
Set my shovel somewhere, walked the gardens for an hour and couldn’t find it, Greg found it standing next to a large tree..tomorrow morning I’m heading out to Home Depot and buying bright orange spray paint and do all my tools

Cut the grass with rider, washed it and when I went to put it away, wouldn’t start, put battery charger on, Greg got on it and it started.,a few weeks ago he had pushed the seat back, guess I wasn’t strong enough to ouch pedal down far enough for it to start.

Then he and Rob went to put new part on A/C, nothing wrong with it, shaking my head..but they did find batteries were low 8n thermostat and l8kely the problem so I have to buy better batteries

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, this might be a good time for Paul to order a new tarp so he has it by the time it's needed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

He has Karen, 1 year wait at all the tarp places he has called..would be a good trade for someone to get into...

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I am glad to hear he finally ordered a new one!!! LOL

I got both pictures up! I am not really happy with the placement of one of them but it will do until I have some help. I wish the weather would cooperate, I want to paint so bad!!!

OK, back outside to finish putting the last of the flowers in the ground. Cool moist day is perfect for that (even if it's NOT perfect for painting! Grumble grumlbe..)

I am going to see if I can catch my neighbors while they are outside smoking. I will see if I can find a way to tactfully ask if I can throw all their cardboard boxes and other trash in my spare garbage can for Monday's trash day... wish me luck. I've planted a butterfly bush to give a background to my arch & picket fence, to screen the view of their side yard.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Good luck, Pat!
I want to show some potential & some actual buds & blooms! I'd like to show you a video, but am sure you'll get the idea.
1st - what is this plant? looks like tiny daisies
2nd - my red peony planted in honour of Carol Rogers
3rd - this iris bloomed today
4th - Landscape rose - red
5th - Little girl in the Leaves statue
