Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Always a chair and good friends when you want to chat or need a hug..

Boy, that does look cuddly and warm!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, bitter cold, snow crunches as you walk on it..had to go out and bring in 14kg container of kitty litter, did the steps, in for hot chocolate, finish my town to do list then will go to town as I opened iPad this morning to weather warning for the weekend, best I get what I need today and not worry about going out,

I especially put on my list picking up extra tags for garbage bag picks up as I know with task of cleaning under the washroom cupboard and kitchen cupboard donethis weekend..
I’ll have more than one bag for roadside Tuesday, thInk I already have 1 bag full.

Thinking of trying to get kitchen cupboard done before going into town then I’ll know what is needed but don’t want to wait too long before leaving as it may start earlier than expected.

Victoria Harbour, ON

moved my butt, got top cupboards, 1 bag for dump..car warming up, getting dressed and off to town .

Oh my. So hard to buy for 1 or 2 people. Containers are too much to use before it expires. Todd and I did this just before Thanksgiving. Some stuff we found was 5 years old. It got shoved to the back. Out it went.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I find as well Lindakay I’m not the best to look at date before buying..think they move older dates to front and I just grab..one day I got my milk from back of bag row and a store working was displeased..well living on my own and I’m buying 3 bags of milk I want it to last..threw away about 3 boxes of cereal, 2 boxes of fruit porridge sooo today I will but one of each and eat them before they go on the list to purchase.

Still have energy and oh boy do I have a lot of junk under zinc in washroom..most good so going to clean a shelf out of washroom closet and organize which means I have to buy a whole bunch of plastic containers while in town..it’s so sunny but talk about cold.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Drive carefully when you go to town.

Verona, ON

It is very cold here but the sun is shining. It was -21* F this morning on the lake side deck. It's warmed up to -16* F. Betty we are getting that storm too. Storm warnings are out for me also. I imagine Debbie is going to get the storms too.. Not supposed to start snowing until Sat. afternoon

I was supposed to see the neuro eye doctor in Kingston this morning. When I went out to warm up the Escape I realized I was in the beginnings of a vertigo attack. Called the office of the specialist and the earliest I can get in is Feb 10. I was delighted they could get me in so early. I am on the cancellation list.

Need to go and see what Diesel has his knickers in a knot about - there must be people on the lake.

Stay safe and well.

Oh Dianne, I’ve only had a twitch of what you go through and don’t know how you cope, especially living on your own. Think our storm starts early morning so likely it’s fast moving and will reach you in the afternoon. You are lucky indeed to get in so soon, especially with a specialist.

Your furries are brave, twice I’ve tried to get Ziggy outside as he seems to want to go out but minute I open the door back inside he comes.

My weekend projects was to get upper kitchen cupboard done, bottom cupboards and under bathroom zinc done this weekend..I’m almost done 2 of 3 lol

While I picked up groceries (bought lots of what I threw out this morning that was past date) I saw a box of plastic container on for $10, ..though they would be great for organizing under the bathroom zinc..sure hope I get to throw some out..I don’t wear makeup or perfume (perfume because so many people are allergic) so not sure how I got so much of it..out it goes...

I went to Home Depot, was looking for a fixture for laundry room, a lovely young woman took me to an area where they had lighting fixtures for sale, the most unlikely little corner, but they had LED 2” fixture..has 3 light settings, suppose to give a lot of light, regular $99 on for $49 so I think that was a good deal.

Sharon will bring her son Brian over tomorrow weather permitting to install it. Here is hoping..

Now I’ll play at trying to get what I’m keeping into these containers..

Got it done, 1/2 thrown, some 8n bag for SHARON, when she goes to the islands she takes with her little bottles of soap, containers shampoo, conditioner body lotions when she goes to the islands so I’ve got a bag I’ve been saving for her..another area cleaned.

Leave it to me, schedule for weekend and week and I push myself to get it almost done in one day!

My treat for working hard will be a cup of hot chocolate and a nice big slice of carrot cake then bedtime.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

AMAZING all the stuff we accumulate, isn't it? We cleaned out the pantry about 6 months ago. Shame we didn't know a pig farmer to donate the expired food to. Now that I am not doing the grocery shopping, we rarely have an overfilled neglected pantry.

Got warmer here today, and more dangerous. The roads were ice and we were "near freezing" which gave us a layer of melt. I took my usual route to work and slid RIGHT THRU a 4-way stop. The stop sign is at the bottom of steep hill and brakes were useless. Good thing it was before 7 AM and no one else was at the intersection.

One of my coworkers said his braking didn't work so well this morning either. He took a curb to avoid hitting the car stopped at intersection in front of him. I canceled my home visits and stayed in the office. It was very productive day, got LOTS of telephone work done. I am REALLY enjoying the peace and quiet of having my office to myself.

There are some cubicles in the back of the office empty and I have claimed one for break time. I am using the desk and counter tops to cut out fabric. I even brought a mat, rotary cutter & ruler. It was soooooooooo nice not having to put up and take down at every break. I just tidy up a bit and off I go, leaving all my projects and supplies out. I'm grateful to my co-worker for recommending it and sharing "his space". Right now he's the only one in the back area with total of 4 cubicles.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, snow is just starting, if we get the amount they are calling for I’ll go out a few times to shovel so I don’t have the weight if I leave it.

Pat, that really is the only time I won’t attempt driving. How lucky you were that no cars at the 4 way, good lord was looking after you. Your post sounds like you are regaining energy and finding time time to do the things you love, warms the heart to see that. Rather than give give give to all you are finally looking after you!!

SHARON had thought that she and Brian would have come to hang the laundry room light and the black metal light but won’t happen, nor LINDA coming over to finish her 4 pillows so nightly for the day I shall wear.

Greg called last night and asked if I wanted to go out for supper, I was right in the middle of the washroom clean up so I passed, another night. He was telling. Me he booked his annual Newfoundland snowmobile trip and that Jeff will join him, how great to have brother time.

I’m on break, was up early, decided that the only thing needing cleaning in washroom was the closet, so got that done. Went for milk in the refrigerator and I don’t know how it happened but I’m 1/3rd into it..gee whiz, on to next week’s to do list. Lol

Pat I’m like you, refrigerator fill, freezer, cupboards and I don’t even use it, buy and throw so I am going to do my very best to buy only what I need..thInk I just threw out 6 almost full bottles of salad dressing, k8nds I don’t even like..when next in town I will buy a bottle,of Russian and poppy seed and that is it unless I have company then I’ll see about a few more..

So now I’m finishing up the door and top shelf now I’ve had my coffee and cereal and going downstairs..think I want to do some golf towels I promised to do. When on break I will do a tad more,on the shelf and few rows,of knitting.

What are all you up to today? Hope it’s exciting and you will share..I’ll live vicariously through, you

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Not doing much today. Going out for lunch, the to Walmart to get a few things, then back home. Sounds boring compared to all you have done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not boring for sure, at least you are getting out..

Dianne winter storm is at my door step so if it hasn’t arrived as yet it soon will be.be careful, you as well Debbie and Deb..

I think my body is thinking spring, being out 8n the gardens so I’m in spring cleaning mode so that come April I won’t worry about cleaning.m saw a different approach into making the most of your dresser drawers so I tried it and Lordy I was able to have an extra drawer to fill.

I have lunch on, I've been up early and didn’t stop other than for coffee breaks so my tummy thinks it’s supper time so chicken stew it is, won’t have to cook tonight.

So while I’m sitting waiting for lunch and cleaning drawers I found an old magazine, 1001 Household Hints from 1991 so I’ll check it out until it’s time to head downstairs..would love to take a nap but I am thinking if I do that will be the end of my day. I must say though watching my Ziggy nap is awful tempting.

What a teaser!! Come on share Betty! What was " a different approach into making the most of your dresser drawers" We are going to have to do several things here to make the most of the space. I will likely hire help to move some furniture. When Youngest & his step daughter move in, I am going to have to find places for everything that in those 2 rooms closets etc etc. I want to also get the filing cabinet out of that bedroom. Give granddaughter as much room as possible.

The house is a mess, I have not swept or vacuumed... little clipping of serger chain thread are now in every part of the house. Oh well LOL.

Kevin has changed his mind, last minute left for Portland. He showered and packed while I gassed up his car and bought chains (just in case this weather all changes AGAIN). The winter warning advisory was lifted and he checked the highway cameras and off he went. I am confident he will get this last remaining surgery behind him and move to Portland. It will be different not having him live with us. I'll have to learn to reset my modem and all kinds of techy things!

Kevin is a wonderful son and man. He will make a wonderful husband and stepfather some day, sooner than later I hope.

Ben's OT is complete and he has PT for more than a week, discharge on 1/27. He has lost 14 pounds and can stand for up to 5 minutes now. He is using the walker and I am hopeful he will continue to work on that DAILY.

OK, break over, back to SEWING!! I visit Ben later today. My DSisIL had said she was coming this morning but haven't seen her yet.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

We had 4" of snow last night, today we've got a mix of snow and rain. It's right around freezing today, temps are supposed to drop to 5F tonight, high in the teens for most of the week. The roads will be bad when this freezes.

I think I'm staying in for the weekend!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still snowing here, whiteouts when wind picks up.

Deb, is this a normal winter for you? Think often your weather is worse than ours..yep good day to stay in and cuddle with your furries.

Know about the threads Pat, regardless how much I vacuum there they lay on the living room rug, only rug I have in the house. Good news about Ben, Lordy his discharge is a week away, let’s hope his regime of exercise and diet continues when he comes home. Seeing his caregiver has been unemployed over past few weeks will it be difficult getting same person back? Does your son have a specific day for surgery? How long of a drive does he have today? Bet you are worried and will be until he arrives safely.

The organizing the drawers is quite simple, likely something you have done all along, you the pieces are folded like pkgs and in rows, get double the mount in a drawer and each piece easily seen..I did gain 1 drawer though..had 4 filled to the brim and now 2 3/4 filled.

Good morning all, did all within the storms way make it through without mishap?

Just taking a bath to limber out the bones, going to get dressed and go out shovel, for sure I’ll not do it in one attempt. Have the car running as I think there was a tad of freezing rain..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, are you using your snowblower?

Victoria Harbour, ON

No, I find by the time I get it from under the deck, fight to get is started, blow with snow blowing on me I might as well shovel..I actually enjoyed it this morning.

Got part done when Andrew came, he was quicker than municipal plows, I was able to drive out onto the road for him to clean and push banks away, I’d say we got nearly a foot..took me 1 hr 15 minutes to totally get it done..smiled when Andrew said he gives me credit, young ones still in bed and I’m always out there before he comes....

Came in and put the coffee on and while I waited for water to boil did underneath the counter..was quick and easy seeing I had done it in November.. must remember to check if I actually don’t think I have on shopping list, think I have 5 large bottle of dish soap....so productive and still have the entire day ahead of me.

Told myself to grab another coffee and head downstairs without looking anywhere except the craft room, no more side cleaning..I’ve already taken off next weekends chores,I had scheduled in.

Must be so frustration for guys who plow, township just went by, you can’t see dimension because white on white does not show..

Ziggy is at odds with himself, not sure what he wants, I open door for him, he looks out and comes back in lol

So glad we don't have to deal with snow down here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I don’t know, some of the heat you deal with I’d not want

2 golf towels hand towels done, (3 more left to do). going to get the accu quilt out and cut extra hearts out, didn’t have enough left over from last year to do the 4 mug rugs...I do need more hand towels, net time I see good quality I’ll pick some up

Verona, ON

We got just over a foot of snow yesterday. The plow guy was just in. He says there is more snow coming so he wanted to get the lane plowed. That way he won't have to use his front end loader.

Like Betty LK I don't think I could handle the heat you get.

Making Valentine's gnomes. They still need hearts on the hats.

Oh oh, just crawled into bed, pushed myself big time this weekend and I’m here thinking, am sure I have fur from last year, lots of pink red socks, steel cut oats, no no don’t get up!!!

They are adorable LIndakay, beard almost looks a light pink, is it or just appears to be....I know somewhere you posted how Christmas ones were made but I’m too tired to look, what did you use for bottom

Victoria Harbour, ON

Never pay much attention to strange emails..just climbed into bed and looked through emails..look what I found, a reminder..didn’t even get the first one??

Have to call tomorrow..guess surgery is quick..need to find out about it

You would think they would have called

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying you get a date soon.

Gnomes are made from socks. Cut in half, bottom makes the body, top makes the hat. I put about 3/4 of a cup of fish tank gravel in the bottom, fill the rest with stuffing. Tie the top closed. Hot glue the nose, beard and hat into place. Nose is made with a piece of pantyhose with a bit of stuffing inside. Beards are white.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, clear right now but expecting snow later in the day.

Seeing as surgery is tomorrow, have to be at hospital before 10:15 in order to register..day surgery I’m sure, just not sure if it’s local anaesthetic or freezing..although they sent reminder yesterday and I did not hear from doctor or surgeon’s office maybe because it is due to a cancellation..will phone around nine, maybe before as I’m sure surgery Dept is early to get specifics..sure hope it’s not just to gab lol

Carole was thinking of you as well, did you get all the snow we got Saturday..

On my list for around 9, call Andrew, over a few feet of snow where municipal plow pushed in a bank right into entrance to drive,

I got rid of almost all the food in the house so need to get out this morning and pick some up incase I can’t be lifting for a week or so

See, must have had a premonition, got all the major cupboards cleaned over the weekend..must have knowing might have to rest

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, most surgery requires lab work to be done several days before surgery date. Call your Doctor to make sure. What is the surgery for? What will they be doing.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Yes Betty, Lots of snow..but I am sure you got more than I did. I have a fella that plows the driveway for me. I have exercise for seniors every Monday..so I was able to get there today.
Hope your surgery goes well. Will be thinking of you.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

LindaKay, I think Betty is having surgery on her shoulder that gives her a lot of pain.
Cheers,
Carol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, the specialist found a growth in the same area as the main nerve which she believe is the cause of my shoulder and nerve problem with arm and numb finger.
No preop as they will freeze the shoulder and cut lol not looking forward to that..

Hard to get around my noggin that such an easy procedure or so I think could possibly alleviate all the pain..I’ll be shocked if that is the case

It’s so sunny right now

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying all goes well for you Betty.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Got a haircut and then spend the afternoon and early evening with Sis. We worked on varies patterns for doll shoes. NOT very productive, bottom line, takes WAY more time than what they are worth. At least too much time if you are clothes & shoes for 100 dolls! I am hoping we may let come with a pattern that fits nicely and goes quickly.

Used the ruffle foot on the serger. I haven't done it since a class I took, a year ago maybe? . If you aren't gathering directly to another piece of fabric, you get NICE full gather. I can hardly wait to get going with that. I have some cute double ruffle skirts planned for the dolls.

Dropped in to see Ben, then went home. Poor guy it was nearly 8PM when I finally showed up, I think I would have given up hope! Problem was it was too early to see Ben before I left to go to Marie's so had to go AFTERWARDS. Getting ready for bed SOONl

Ben has kept both of his caregivers and it really could not turned out better for Andrew. I helped find him another client (Shhhhhhhhhh,,... don't tell anyone. I already got written up once for THAT!). The other client has LOTS more hours than Ben but is not as nice of home setting. Ben didn't really have anywhere near as many hours as what Andrew wanted, he needed FULL time, about 173 per month.
Andrew is going to return to Ben and work 9 to 2PM Tuesday thru Friday = 20 hours. Andrew will work 8 hours Monday & 3 to 6 for the other client = 20 hours, FULL 40 hours just like he wanted!!! The other client will use an agency for the rest of the hours We ( case manager, Ben & I, other client & Andrew) couldn't be happier about it!! The other client always knew that Andrew was "temporary" until Ben was released, but it worked out so much better than we could ever have hoped for.

Our evening help/weekend help, Annie, had a client with lots more hours and although I am sure it was a hardship to lose some hours, she did not lose her medical insurance as we as able to keep enough hours.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I had started post, then left and finished it, posted. NOW going back and catching up what was posted while my first note languished.

Betty, sending prayers that it truly is that easy and simple of surgery, that your recovery is speedy and complete! Who is taking you & back home after surgery?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, another cold once here this morning..brrr they snow today but normally when this cold it doesn’t snow.

Was up and at it and everything done, even my one load of 1/2 wash, what I wore yesterday and a towel, vacuuming donee, dishwasher unloaded and now I’m sipping on my coffee , I’ll put curling iron to my hair then attach tags to garbage bags and get them to the curb then it’s sit until Sharon picks me up.

Lordy Pat that is a full day but bet you enjoyed..wonderful for all how you scheduled in everything so perfectly...now did you sleep well?? Lol sometimes when I overdo I think I’ll sleep like a babe but rarely happens.

Dianne how are you and the Thundering herd coping with this deep freeze? I’m thinking I’d rather have the cold than snow..no shovelling.

Well I will get back to finishing my to do’s as sharon will get here 8:15 and I want to be ready.

Will let you know how things went..am sure I’ll be home around noon by the sounds of it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sending prayers Betty.

Pacifica, CA

prayers for you betty.

Verona, ON

The TH and I are sending positive thoughts for Betty. Who is going with her ? They won't admit her or do surgery unless someone is there.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I think she said Sharon was driving her. Praying all goes well and this surgery solves her pain issues.
