0hhh best I say, morning everyone as the clock is starting to chime..beautiful day out there, light wind and I can see leaves falling, looks so pretty!
Girls were here, pleased to get their quilted projects, they managed to sew binding on, chatted and left.
Dianne what is ziti? Will eat spinach but not a fan..talking about hamburger think I’ll go to foodland and see if they still have hamburger on sale..I could do with tomato/hamburger and mashed potatoes..
Breaks your heart doesn’t it when you come across things that friends have gifted us...I have Aline’s memorial photo on blackboard in craft room, will be a year on the 19th..miss her, can still hear the excitement when she would start and finish a project...same with Barb, she so enjoyed her sewing and crafting..I’ve great memories of Barb and Norm’s visit.😢
LIndakay could Blackie’s troubles be caused by the heat?
Karen, will that be the last trip this year? Family will want to visit to get away from the snow. Yes, we often get annoyed at delays but thankfully we get home safely... nothing like going on a trip but so nice to be home.
Pat, it’s only been a few years hasn’t it been since you’ve no horse? Not sure why but I thought you boarded one? Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.
What is new in your neck of the woods Liz,Debbie and Deb?
Anyone I missed?
Bad shoulder day today, that salve didn’t do anything for me..was too lazy to get up and take a sleeping pill and spent mega time awake smelling skunk.,even Ziggy was annoyed so once I get eats on think I’ll have a nap and maybe try and finish scarf which will be a Xmas gift.
Well Dianne you talked me into it, off to Foodland..must check how much their flower and lard is..soon be pie making day.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?? Come sit a spell, newcomers always welcome..come join in the chat!
Well that wasn’t a good trip to foodland..shaking my head big time...double big sigh
My craving for tomato/hamburger ended up in a situation 1/2 my fault and 1/2 a young workers fault.
1st time my pain got the best or worse of me...Decided to buy most of what I need for my pies and remembered I needed bread. The shelf had just been filled..I picked a bread and realized it wasn’t the make I wanted, so put it back into the column of bread I took it from, young man said ‘no you don’t,you broke all the bread slices and now you want to put it back, I looked at it and said no I did not, he took it from me and set it aside..I took it and said I’ll buy the damn thing, not 8n those words..said there are other stores to shop in, Wanneta who comes to sew here and owner looked at me, I was livid, owner took bread, told the young man to apologize and get me another, I said absolutely NO, Wanneta told me not to be like that as they will deal with him, I was a lunatic and said no bread..Wanneta said the owner would likely let him go as they had many complaints..I DO NOT want him fired because of it, I was just angry really for nothing..so Home I am with no bread grrrr
Betty, if your situation had been the ONLY one, then they would not have considered firing him, so please do not blame yourself. "Wanneta said the owner would likely let him go as they had many complaints. I DO NOT want him fired because of it", Betty, a company cannot afford to keep bad help.
I meant to comment earlier, involving children in a relationship is VERY risky. Gloria did not let Corina meet Kevin until they had been dating for several months. Even then, there are no guarantees. Kevin is waiting for Gloria to 'be sure", I am 98% certain Kevin is already there... When I see them, they LOOK like a family. You know how some people are just go together and look like they belong? Not gushy PDA stuff that people can display, but natural fit and comfort.
It's been years since I sold the horses. Even after I sold mine, I let a neighbor board her horse in my pasture for a few years before we sold that house/property.
Thanks Pat, I understand he was not Foodland employee but Dempster delivery man, still feel I over reacted...
There, memory re horses served me well.
Glad Kevin has committed, lucky child..and yes you (we) have the vibes when we see it’s love for mate and children.
Have my supper ready, all but potatoes that are cooking..can see an early night ahead of me.
Betty, Dianne... everyone in Canada. Please be careful about the hamburger you buy. There has been a recall.

Aw man, don't you hate the problems in our food chain lately? Makes ya want to raise your own!
Yikes, that is not good news for beef industry..
Know you are going to shake your finger at me saying NO NO NO but most tasty part of cooking with beef is my eating it raw..that and sausage. Know the dangers but have been doing it all my life and that is a long long time.
Cushion supporting my shoulders as I sit and sew in wool ends of the scarf I’m doing..would like to finish it ..
Ziggy was enjoying this beautiful fall day, went to walk around the gardens and he came in, I had to smile, kitty that looks like him on the quilt might have made him feel even more cozy!
Betty I don't feel you were in the wrong, young man was rude and had no cause or right to speak to you so. If he's is going to be in a position of dealing with the public, he needs to learn a bit of tact.
Laughing at you eating raw hamburger, I'm always yelling at hubby for the same thing. Sure he won't stop either, he's 80 and been doing it all his life. He probably can tolerate it because he always has. I'm the same way over raw milk. I enjoy it so very much and it's difficult to come by. My cousin I visited on Friday was telling me they get farm milk and offered me a glass, Oh it was so good. I was telling them how I made butter with the cream off mine.
Could you tell me the size of the embroidery possum? I'm at assembly stage now and want to allow the proper space for it.
I don't eat any meat not cooked thoroughly. Hubby likes his rare. A lot of countries eat it raw. They call it tar star. Raw beef. Not my thing.
I've just been lurking lately. Nothing much going on here. Planning on my Virginia Beach trip for the dog show at the end of the month. So much to get done at home before I leave, screens need to come down and storm windows hung, one needs glass replaced. Need to get some clean up completed in the yard and garage, and get the gutters cleaned. There's just never enough time, it seems.
One of my girls is having her teeth cleaned today, and two small mammary growths removed. Waiting for a call from the vet that all went well, and to hear when I can pick her up.
Today's my daughter's birthday, so promised her dinner out tonight. Probably the local Chinese place, that's her favorite, and mine, too!
Deb
Happy birthday to your daughter.
62 here in Texas this morning. It feels so good.
Afternoon..
LIndakay it’s 57 here today with 63 I believe for tomorrow..our thanksgiving meal/gathering is Sunday at the trailer, rain for Saturday, am so hoping all ok for Sunday..did you ever get rain?
Deb, long trip ahead of you, hope other than the furries you’ve someone to go with? Did you take a few xtra days to enjoy the area and relax? How is your weather!
Wish your daughter a happy birthday from me please.
Got everything out to put Sharon’s quilt on the frame, backing had to be in 2 pieces..got that done this morning..waiting for Sharon to drop in so we can put it on the frame, she has to learn, besides I’m trying to rest my left shoulder and neck area.
Skunks are out, could hardly sleep again last night for the smell..wanted to walk all the gardens but I thought i would stay close to house..still colour
Need to go to town for a few things, one being bread (we won’t go there) also need to go to bulk barn for specialty pie supplies, never made a pecan pie but going to try it..anybody have a good easy recipe to share ?
Want to make an apple raisin pie and I’ve no raisins,
Not sure if I posted on this thread my finish scarf? few changes I will do on next one..looks so nice on, if you really get cold it could be used as a cowl hood
Love the scarf, Betty! That is really neat!
No, traveling with just the dogs, which is fine. I prefer to travel alone, then I can set my own schedule, stop when I want, leave when I want. I'm hoping to do a little sightseeing while I'm there. I'd love to go to Williamsburg, it's been decades since I was there, but I've always loved it. Just limited to what I can do since I'll have dogs with.
We had maybe 1/4 inch of rain Monday morning. Not much.
I love that scarf. Your flowers are pretty too.
We finally got some rain on Sunday. Could use more.
Betty - that scarf is simply fabulous! I would love to find the pattern. it's so unique!
Snowed pretty heavy last night, and oh my - the wind was gale force! We could see a bit of the grass through the snow, but everytime Bob swept or shovelled the deck, if filled in again. Scraping car windows took awhile and oh boy..... looks like winter is here to stay.... We shall see....
Winds last night broke all the stored windows we had to make a greenhouse next spring. They were between the deck & shed, with a lawn chair to brace them. The wind pulled the lawn chair & that's what broke the window.
Making a "Turkey doll". Have to quilt the tail to look like individual feathers. I'm waiting until it's all put together to see, but the eyes look like human eyes?!?! Not a good look, in my opinion, for a turkey! It's very large, about 1ft or so. It's a panel with the pieces preset. I have 3 panels actually, so may make 3 of them, if I have time.
Morning, just made the morning road call..sunshine day, awfully cold last night,as the start of the day was foggy..just gorgeous out there
Heard about the snow in your neck of the roads Susan, this is early is it not? Looking forward to seeing your turkeys, not sure I’ve seen one with individual feathers..old panel or something you just bought?Pattern isn’t the best but I will send it to you.
Deb, hope you get to see Williamsburg.
Took a quick run to post office before they close for lunch, regular post for a card was $3.15..not bad, asked how much for the next quickest method..would you believe they put the envelop in a social delivery envelop and its $27.45, now that is insane..I asked twice thinking she might of misunderstood but answer was the same!
June came over for a visit this morning, a got a small embroidery project done, have 3/4 of Sharons quilt on the frame..putting something Halloween on back of Joanne’s gift, now to paint it, need it for tomorrow as she is coming over around 9 for a visit..
Sounds like a lot but I’m just playing around, ate lunch and unless I punch myself of the couch here I will stay all day.
Trying to get dates the girls want to go on our annual Christmas shopping trip, Lordy your thanksgiving is late this year so we can either go the 15th or 27th.
morning all,
betty that is a very pretty scarf
hope all is well with you all,
well im so confused, when did California become a third world country!
pge gas and electric shutting northern calif, due to some nonsence of high wind way way up in the hills and we all have to be punished for 2 to 5 days with no power and they said they gave us warning so there not responsible for lost food.
but yet san Francisco isn't affected and their having fleet week and the blue angles are going to be here looks funny to me!
Betty, our Thanksgiving is always the last Thursday of November.
Stellar Fall day here. Rain on the way though.
Liz I have been following the news today on the power outage...... who in he** thought this was a good idea? Small businesses will be bankrupt, people who cannot afford it will not be able to go to work, food will go bad, schools won't be able to open and on and on. It's almost like an armageddon(sp) I am so sorry you have to go through this. People didn't even get notice so they could get gas for generators. Generators are worth nothing if they don't have gas to make them run.
I am battling a major tick infestation. The TH are full of them. When we walk the ticks crawl all over the 3 of us. When I come home I have to strip and check my clothes and body for the little devils. I took 20 off of Diesel in 15 min. Baby ticks crawl out of the larger ticks when you kill the mother tick .Ewww!!
Karen that is some banana tree !!
Betty the sweater you made is gorgeous.
Saw my GP this morning for my mini physical before my cataract surgery. Not happy about some of the things I heard but nothing to hold up the surgery.
Stay safe and well. The TH are here asking for a walk. I need to find their glow sticks.
You're braving than me, the idea of removing TICKS everytime I went outside would be enough to keep me IN!! LOL
I absolutely LOVE the scarf Betty. Wish I knitted!
Karen, your banana tree is amazing.
Linda, while Thanksgiving is always the 4th Thursday, some years that makes it fall earlier in the month than others depending on what day of the week starts the month.
the power outages have to be royal pain.
Karen..Wow! What an amazing tree.
Liz..that is ridiculous ..most people have a lot of food in their freezers..would be a huge loss...just think of the people who have sump pumps..homes will flood..shaking my head here. We all need to have reliable electricity.
For those of you who enjoy Star Wars..my Hosta Captain Kirk.
diane it all has to do with politics we have been told 12 noon today, then they postponed it to 3 then between 8 and 10 they will take lists of food loss then review it
which still means no compensation,
were all done with them! we are no where near hills ect
watch all the looting that will take place its just horrible to make us all suffer behind this nonsence.
oh ya the best part the poor people with health issues needing oxygen well they can go to thease set up stations to re-charge omg this is not acceptable.
we will be ok , im so glad before we moved I kept all my coleman stoves and camping supplies
oh another highlight is with no power no stop lights well off to wait and see what happens good night all
Morning all, just daybreak but I’ve been up to a few hours..suppose to be a 66f day but rain Saturday,
Mel dropped in last night for a visit, she is having 27 for Thanksgiving at campground and is just praying no rain..
Liz, there are no words for what they are putting you through, know things happen when country is hit with disaster winds/flooding etc. But this is manmade..what are they saying the ‘good’ to this exercise will be.i would think major box store would have some kind of electric back up but all the other..just the thought of my sump pump having no electricity gives me the chills, although I have a backup battery system bit not sure how long that would last.
Pat, I’m with you, couldn’t do what Dianne is doing on a daily basis, and to see little ones crawl out..yikes not me.
So Karen, when do we expect banana so we can make banana cream pie?
Carol, what kind of paint did he use for the floor? I miss my rock flooring in the basement I had painted, looked so real, lost it after the big flood and they redid the floors.
Was up early finishing a project I made for joanne, she turns 60 Sunday and loves primitive crafts so I made her a sign that says fall n front and yesterday did the other side that says happy halloween, did some spider webs, when I was stateside I bought a package of humongous spiders so attached them to the wed then added a halloween bow and raffia..raffia needs to be cut but I’ll let her do that.
She is coming over a 9 for a visit so I’ll knit for awhile..need to put my brace on though.
Good morning everyone.Sun is shining brightly.
Liz my heart aches for you and everyone in your area. On GMA they were saying the Diablo winds have really picked up so the chance of wild fires has increased. The other thing that was mentioned that barriers had to be erected to protect the PandG ? electrical workers.Smart lady keeping those camping supplies. Even with the generator I still have a Coleman stove and several lamps. I use the lamps if the power is out for more than an hour or if I need to use the stove to make something to eat. Wouldn't there be more of a risk of fire with people using matches and candles ? Have they banned smoking completely too ? I say that in jest as I know there are several limitations on smokers already.
Are you sharing the sweater pattern Betty ? Love the colour too.Did you know there was a Buddist retreat in Bethany? It cost around $80 million to build.
Need to go into Kingston this afternoon for 1 pm appointment at the dentist then on to the denturist. I am not happy about the afternoon drive as my eyes seem to be worse as the day goes on .I will take advantage of the trip and get some errands/bank done before my appointment.
There will be no walks today for the TH. I just don't have it in me to detick them several times. Not to worry they have a huge yard which is all pea gravel with a great shade tree plus they have shade from the carport. They are only out there when I am home.
Susan sorry to read about your broken windows. I don't envy your winter weather.
Deb I am like you I like to travel by myself... well the TH are with me. When DH was alive he never wanted to stop anywhere just go to Point A to Point B as fast as he could.
LK temp still down in the 60's today?
I have some emails to answer so I had better get a move on.
Stay safe and well.
Down here we make Nanner puddin, however if we're waiting on the banana tree, we'll be waiting a while. Our season is too short.
Betty,
I had a quart of semi Gloss high traffic that I had never used. I had bought it as it was o the mistake rack several years ago. Yesterday I had the colour matched at Hoje Depot so Mike can paint more of the basement floors. I can't believe how a fresh coat of paint makes such a difference. Well..it is exercise morning..best get ready. MIke is coming back today at 11:30. Have a great day all.
morning all,
we still have power were on flat land but the threat is in effect still.
diane, we live in a condo now smoking only allowed on deck and outside
I don't smoke anymore but dh does. how is chaos I know he was giving you a bad time with the ticks.
ahh dog trying to get attention hes ready for walk.
have a great day all
It was 31 F this morning and all my dahlias and the Sweet Potato vine all really got hit hard. I will likely cut everything down & dig up vines etc this weekend.
Ben leaves with caregiver tomorrow morning and they will drive through to Idaho Falls, about 9 hours. Attend the funeral Saturday and then come back Sunday morning. I just was not feeling up to making the drive and Ben can't go alone. Depending on how it goes, whether I end up paying more than initially agreed to for the caregiver. I am so grateful he is willing to accompany Ben.
Day break has to be the best time of day..everything is so peaceful..didn’t check weather but if it didn’t change from yesterday it will be a sunshine day! Hope same for you, mind. You I could wish LIndakay a rainy day and she would be pleased.
Pat, here is hoping all goes well for Ben and his caregiver..sorry to hear though that purpose of trip is a funeral. My potato vines were also dragging, hit by the cold yesterday..tempted to bring in the big mandavilla, have any of you in cooler temps done so?
Liz, hope you’ve still got power..any more news on what they are doing?
Going into midland this morning so making Paul and the girls a pie for thanksgiving..big pie making day for my family will be Sunday. It’s Melanie’s dad’s 80th birthday so they will be having cake so told me, less pies lol
Best I get back to it..boiled my raisins in spiced rum, had to let them cool for an hour, almost there..by the time I get crust done it should be cooled
Sorry to hear about your power outages Liz. Praying they find a better solution.
65 for our temps today. Nice and cool.
About same temp here
Halllooooo from wet wet Thunder Bay !! Snow is threatening, but, may pass us by, it sure has dumped on Manitoba !!
Lorna is now a FREE WOMAN for 6 months, but, the cost of her hard work has given her a very soe L shoulder blade, I tend to think it's an impingement .. has a docs apt on Tues.
Traveling east is still up in the air as Lorna's Mom is worried about having the dog in her apartment. Still waiting for her to be assessed by CCAC , a community care group .. NO ROOM in any assisted care homes in her area :-( 2 year wait !!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians :-) I am all pied out !!!
~M~
we still have power, they are slowly turning back on other areas, now I see on news southern calif is fighting a fire so awful.
betty that just sounded so good raisins in spiced rum what are you making with that?
thanks linda kay
Morning all, been raining sincea I got up at 5, debated tripping to stay in bed but knew I wouldn’t sleep so might as well make myself useful
Liz glad the power situation is under control...it was a pie I made with apples, raisins and rum, told my niece to make sure she tells me truth, not the traditional ‘ I lived it’, new recipe and need to know if it’s good enough to make again..must go check the news and see what is happening..hope they can contaIn it and no lives lost..
“M” sure hope t(e snow misses you, seems early for snow even in your region is it not? That being said have seen snow halloween and it stayed all winter..
Poor Lorna, I empathize with her having the bad shoulder.
cleaned upper floor, did my hair, finished neck scarf and trying to decide if I want to go to Barrie shopping with her..she is buying new flooring and looking for new dining room table or I could stay home and play..I’m for the playing.
I called mom last night, asked if she was up to Sharon and I driving to the city to take her out for breakfast or Thanksgiving lunchbox she said she is still unwell and would rather we make it next weekend.
Afternoon everyone..just taking a few minutes with feet up enjoying the sounds of fall as the back door is open, sunshine day, I’m hearing the wind through the trees and leaves rustling on the ground...perfect day for Thanksgiving eats..
Susanne, Dianne and Carol Happy Thanksgiving..hope your weather is as great as mine.
Turnips, carrots and cranberries are cooking, I just have to get them finished and ready to leave at 4pm for the campground..am sure it will be cool so best I bring a jacket and blanket.
Won’t let me attach photo’s so will have to attach later.
Happy Thanksgiving my Canadian friends! I hope it's full of friends & family and good food.
Ben is out of town with his caregiver attending a funeral. Yesterday I slept in until 11 AM!!!
My neighbor hirees & I did a lot of the fall prep. Cut down the dahlias & pulled up the Sweet Potato vine, cut back roses, planted the Japanese Red Lace Maple and Lilac Ben bought me... started draining hoses & rolling. The weather was PERFECT for outside work, cool and sunny. Didn't need a coat even.
Saw my Aunt in the hospital and, picked up supplies home to work on quilt. I need to go back to Joann's to get more black with uneven white dot, I decided I wanted the blanket to be wider by a few more inches. I bought the WRONG fabric yesterday. VERY similar but the dots were slightly larger. Oh well... I'll get it used up eventually, I really like polka-dots, especially black and white in the irregular.
Off I go to continue enjoying having the whole house to myself. ALL BY MYSELF!!! what a treat!
