Betty I am thinking you are getting this severe thunderstorm right now or soon that we have been warned about. It is 80 ish here and very humid.
When I think of Meaford I think about honey crisp apples and great sales. Man that arena used to get hot. I always made a note to take a pair of shorts with me no matter what the temp.
Saw the denturist yesterday. Ollie her French bulldog was there. I just love him to pieces. She thinks it is either a piece of bone or tooth that is poking out of my gum. She says it happens a lot not to to fret. When I see the dentist for the next step of the implants he will freeze the area and yank it out.
Since I was in town already I stocked up at the grocery and pharmacy items.I only have to drive into town 1 more time before my first cataract surgery Oct 30. My sight is really compromised and I drive with my right eye closed. It's a good thing I don't mind staying home.
I threw some popcorn out for the birds. So when I took the TH out for a walk Chaos decided to shovel as much of it as he could. He wasn't too happy with me when I made him leave it.
Very happy to read Pat that you gave your DGD a sewing lesson.
Going to make sure everything is charged up and I have gas for the generator.
Stay safe and well everyone.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?? Come sit a spell, newcomers always welcome..come join in the chat!
Yes, storm blew through around noon, looks like another shortly. Because I was cooking most of the morning I left front/back doors were left open, said 82 in here.
Ouch, several years after I had my dentures, there was no suction, kept falling..as it happened my wisdom teeth were coming out so eye tooth and wisdom had to be pulled, after that for some time chards of broken teeth would make it to the surface, so I feel for you.
How long without driving will you be after cataract surgery?
You will have to makeCaos his own bag of popcorn.lol
Betty it will just be a few days after each surgery I can't drive. At least then I will be able to see out of the right eye. There is a chance I could have 20/20 vision after the surgery. Never had it in my life.
It is as dark right now as it usually is by 7 pm. I imagine Debbie will be getting this storm too.
Have bacon in the oven. The TH's sniffers are going wild. The bacon has been in the freezer for a few years so thought I would cook it up to add to their kibble. I baked a few slices the other day and it was tasteless but it sure smells good.Thank you Rachael Ray !!!! I had always fried bacon on top of the stove....... this way is much easier.
This message was edited Oct 1, 2019 5:21 PM
guess I'll have to try that!
It's a great way to fix bacon, especially for a crowd.
I remember having pieces working to the surface after I got my dentures. I pulled them my self if it was a week-end. I remember doing that with some loose teeth too. I had gum disease really bad. my teeth were loosening. Twice it was on a weekend and was so painful I yanked them my self. Dentist couldn't believe I did it but it stopped the pain.
Betty - that lump wasn't there before, and yet you think it was..... gosh, I hope that it's not a tumour and that it can be figured out what to do to rid you of this pain!
Dianne - hope you're feeling better, re: dentures.
Kinda excited about Friday - Organized a Friday afternoon Game time, from 1pm to 4pm for every week.
Mouth is sore - have canker sores and a scrape on the roof of my mouth, which makes it difficult to wear my dentures. Might just be the stress of the past 2 weeks. Seems that stress does this to me all the time.
Morning, another rainy day but no storm..rain tomorrow but high of 55, Dianne Meaford Scarecrow festival will have Friday night and Saturday with no rain, but rain Sunday.
Was a long day yesterday, the girls came in the morning, girls from the office came in the afternoon the supper at 7:30 in Barrie at Mandarin..will drop off eats to the 2 that could not make it this morning then head to Barrie for my test..
no Susan I did not see a growth (tumour as she called it) nor do I think there is one, I told her that whatever she was feeling it was there 2 weeks ago but of course she didn’t even check.
Dianne glad that you will have such a short wait before you can drive again..will mean more freedom to get out without worrying.
Susan, cankers are the very worse when you have dentures, many a time at the beginning I’d go back every time I had a canker and have then shave off a bit of the plate.hope you get a good response for game day..hard when you organize something and there is a no show.
I love toasted bacon and tomato sandwiches so I cook the entire package and cook it up, wrap with paper towel in zip lock bag, every time I wanna sandwich there’s my bacon.
Best I make my shopping list, seems easy to forget lately lol
Once test is done I’ll go to the craft stores in hopes they have Xmas out, need picks, I’d even consider even consider quality garlandI can always cut the amount I need and add extra decor to them.
Ziggy wants petty so I have to give him 5, let him out for a few minutes but he decided with all this rain that cuddling would be more fun!
SMART kitty, naughty kitty frequently, but SMART!!! hehehe
I still have some interior machine quilting to finish up, but the binding is on my Halloween BIG wall hanging!! it's about 45 x 70, I am pleased. I will take a picture & post tomorrow. I want to get it hung up at work... or maybe my own entry at home.
My coworker/office mate left to go to hospital this morning. I thought she should let me drive her but that's not how it went down. Hospital kept her for some testing, pumped her full of aspirin & said it was angina pains, scared me too death! .
Betty, I hope you get some answers soon.
Pat, that is scary for your coworker. Praying she is ok.
Dianne, prayers your eye surgery goes well.
Happy birthday "M". Have an awesome day.
This message was edited Oct 3, 2019 7:36 AM
Afternoon, brrrr dampness going right through these old bones, just turned furnace on..72 was too cold, trying for 74..we will see..
Happy Birthday “M”, hoping you are having a sunshine day!? Chinese in the offing for supper tonight?
Wow Pat did she drive herself in? I think you guys are in a high stress job. Looking forward to seeing you quilt, did you enjoy the long arm?
I’ll bet Dianne you are counting the days until October 30th.?
Lindakay, still no rain..we are at the point we are saying rain rain go away..
Did a walk around in the gardens this morning, I’m surprised there is still so much colour in the gardens.took out a fall project I started so now I can put its supplies away..not sure I like doing penny rugs.now that I’ve made a few, bought wool fabric for them NOW I decide I’m not fond of it lol
I decided it was a p.j. day today, have left over chicken and sliders left over so no need for me to cook so might take time for a nap.
It is 75 when we get up at 5 in the morning. Our Ac stays on just about 24/7.
Still no rain. Cloudy and humid. 😔
Betty, I felt the same..needed to put the heat up.
I went to exercise in a spring trenchcoat. Was going to a luncheon afterward. Ha dto come home and put n Winter coat and scarf. Cold and windy. Nice lunch at the church, with to ladies harmonizing old familiar songs..then we were asked to join in a couple.
After that, I had to go put my down payment on my new quartz counter and sink. I can't wait to have it installed. My new faucet arrived by FEDEX yesterday. I am having each counter extended by 10'' more for more work surface..
Betty - I just hope they find some answers to fix your pain in your shoulder.
♫♪Happy Birthday, Marilyn! ♪♫ Hope you had a terrific day :)
Carol - how nice that you've gotten your new faucet & will have much more countertop - wow on the quartz one & a new sink too! It's surprising just how much more comfortable it is with a few more inches, but 10" is even better! Good for you :)
Pat, wish I could give you a hug, but this will have to do *Hugs* As was said, you're in a high stress job, so I suppose no wonder your co-worker has angina attacks.
For our 1st Games afternoon, it looks like we'll have a good turnout - quite a few people said they would come from surrounding communities. We have Aggravation, Chinese Checkers, Euchre, 5 Crowns, Sticks, Dominos, Yahtzee, and several others as well as Pool & Shuffleboard. We'll set up tables for each game and see what happens.
I'm making Almond Struesal Cherry Cheesecake bars for the snacks, as well as chips & salsa, and my Candied Fruit Jellies.
On Saturday we're going to a 90th birthday Come & Go Tea. The guest of honour asked me to make the Fruit Jellies so I made 11 dozen - 4 flavours are Lemon, Orange, Peppermint & Cinnamon. I've been asked if I would make them to sell. I think I would have to charge $10 for 3 dozen, because they do take a lot of $$ ingredients. Each batch makes 3 dozen.
Anyway - everything is even-steven - as per normal. Busy days, always. Wouldn't know what to do with myself if I weren't busy lol
Yum..those Jellies ound good..and apple streusel too...Will have to look up a recipe for it.
I make Apple crisp with my apples from the trees.
it's almonds, not apple
It's so EASY. Need a pkg of Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie mix, 1 tin of cherry pie filling, 3 boxes of cream cheese, butter, sugar, flour, Almond flavouring, and 2 eggs
I'll post the recipe later.
Candied Fruit Jellies are here:
CANDIED FRUIT JELLIES
1 box powdered Certo
Food colouring & flavouring*
3/4 c water 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c sugar 1 c corn syrup
*flavouring can be 2 tsp lemon extract & yellow colouring or 2 tsp orange extract & orange colouring.
Mix pectin, water & soda in a 2 quart pan. Mix the sugar, corn syrup in another 2 quart pan. Place both pans on high heat. Stir alternately until foam has disappeared from pectin mixture and the sugar mixture is boiling rapidly, approximately 5 min. Pour pectin mix slowly into boiling sugar, stir constantly, boil & stir one min longer. Remove from heat & add flavouring and colouring. Pour into 8" square pan. Let stand at room temperature overnight until cool and firm; cut into squares; roll in granulated sugar. Let stand 12 hours; roll again in sugar. Leave covered overnight, to prevent weeping before packing & storing. Makes 5-6 dozen candies (similar to orange & lemon jelly slices you buy).
I did, as I said, choose Cinnamon, Peppermint, Lemon & Orange. It took me 1 1/2 hours to do 4 batches on the stove part, which made 12 dozen jellies. They're very addicting. :) I've been asked to do some for one of my friends, but she asked if they would freeze, so she could have them for Christmas - I shouldn't think so, they'd likely turn all watery - they are basically jello.
Many thanks for the birthday wishes, had a lovely day, crummy weather but good people :-)
~M~
Happy Birthday Week, Marilynne. That is what we say in our family. Often there are a couple of different celebrations so it can get stretched over a week. :)
She is back to work... guess this is 3rd time in 10 years this has happened with no answer.
Pat - here's hoping for your co-worker that something can be done for her. Angina attacks are pretty scary......
“M” have you had a dusting if that white stuff yet? Is Lorna finished at Thanksgiving?she has out a lot of energy in her gardens..she will be pleased to have t8me at hoime..is her mom doing better?
Pat,does she not peruse the reason she is having these attacks?
Ohh that is exciting Carole, a kitchen redo..what colour of quartz did you pick..I keep thinking they are getting quarts locally.. lucky you can extend the top 10”, which I could, only waywould be to take out the little cafe but that brings a lot more issues so same size would be nice..maybe one day..next big project here are the floors, new tub/enclosure,,,
Darlene wants me to go south this Christmas and I think, hmmm those dollars could do something special
Susan that sounds delicious, I just might try it.
Sunshine day today, this morning I had to wear a jacket, this afternoon no jacket, sure hope that it’s nice for Meaford scarecrow craft show and events
The Almond Streusel-Cherry Cheesecake Bars are as follows:
Cookie Base & Topping
1 pouch ( 1 lb, 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
1/4 c cold butter or margarine (I always use butter)
4 oz (1.2 of 8 oz pkg) cream cheese
1/2 c sliced almonds
Filling
2 1/2 pkgs (8 oz ea) cream cheese (20 oz) softened
1/2 c sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1 Tsp almond extract
2 eggs
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
1. Heat oven to 350F. Spray bottom & sides of a 13x9" pan with Pam. Place cookie mix in large bowl. Cut in butter & 4 oz of cream cheese, using pastry blender or fork, until mixture is crumbly. Reserve 1 1/2 cups mixture for topping. Press remaining mixture in bottom of pan. Bake 12 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in large pan, beat 20 oz cream cheese, sugar, flour, almond extract & eggs with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth
3. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over partially baked cookie base. Spoon pie filling evenly over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with reserved topping & almonds.
4. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 30 minutes. Refrigerate about 2 hours or until chilled. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Sore, covered in refrigerator.
High altitude (3500-6500 ft) in step 1, bake cookie base 15 min. In step 4, bake 45 to 50 min
Yea, they have tried to find cause. ALL KINDS of tests, all day long but nadda.
2 AM and I'm finally heading to bed. I wanted the 2nd quilt top to be READY to put on frame before I got up in the morning and the darn thing just kept evolving and well... on & on it went!
Afternoon all, just got in from the Meaford Scarecrow festival, perfect day..trees showing their fall colours and sun was shinning.
Did mega shops /Scarecrow Festival and home...looking forward to a hot bath and relax..
fell in love with a knitted scarf displayed in wool section of a fabric shop, hard to explain design, got excited, $50 later for pattern and wool to make 2 of them I left with a smile.lol. Now to find my knitting needles..will make one first and who knows might rewrite for knitting machine.
ended up with a Metal Christmas angel that lights up, promised myself if I bought it 2 things in back shed would be thrown out, sure I can find something to dispose of.
Bought a casual top in Meaford a little boutique, didn’t need it but wanted it , quite plain but layers of draping fabric in front and side v cut bottom..will go good with jeans .. it kept saying it’s lovely, looks great on or was that LINDA talking lol
picked up my salve 14% of the 2 ingredients in marijuana, not going to start tonight as I had a medication pad on my shoulder,tylenol3 and pain spray..will wait til morning to start the salve without any other meds and just see if it helps....let’s hope it works and deals with shoulder pain...lots of other little things wanted to come home with me and did...
I also found the fabric suzanne look for all over in buffalo last Saturday..bought 5 meters..she will be excited about that...
We stopped at Swish Chalet,I had thanksgiving dinner, brought pumpk8n home with me so there is no need to cook supper.
Dianne, with the way I’ve been feeling thought I might just stop at grandma lambs and checked out their frozen pies, thought the way I’ve been feeling maybe just maybe I could buy the cherry, blueberry pies, the rest i’d Make, not at $13.75 a pie though so guess I’ll be making them.
There is a big warehouse as well in meaford, I want to paint Halloween on backside of the fall planks, saw a fabric hanging with almost exactly what I want to do..can use graphite and trace onto the plank then hand paint ..that is for tomorrow
There went my day. 😜
What did you all get up to?
Stellar Fall day here. Crisp outside but perfect for bottling up the garden and flower pots. Keiran came and we were done in no time.
Betty Meaford was on my mind today. Love the angel you bought.
Yikes I wouldn't be paying that for a pie either. Warren used to like Foodland's pumpkin pie. In fact he said don't bother making pumpkin just do apple, cherry and blueberry. Way back in 1970 I was having Thanksgiving for the very first time as a married woman. I went to the store and bought a can of pumpkin, made my pie crust and dumped the can of pumpkin in to the crust. I didn't know you had to add things to the pumpkin... thought it was like cherry pie filling.I felt so silly when I served it. God bless my dad he ate his piece.
Deb how are your dogs doing ? Any shows lined up this Fall?
Susan the Cheesecake recipe looks delicious.
Ticks are terrible right now. I've been pulling off of me and the TH daily. At least on me I can see them but with the TH having black fur they are hard to find at first. Diesel will let me pull them out but Chaos raises such a stink I just wait until they fall off of him.
Caved this afternoon and clicked the furnace on. I wanted to have a shower so needed it a bit warmer.
Stay safe and well everyone.
Looks like you had a great time shopping. I love all you bought.
that yarn is beautiful! Your table topper is simple and lovely, I really should do something like that!
Long Arm quilting today did NOT go well. Marie did "something" wrong with the bobbin & damaged needle, dropped whole bobbin casing out and mechanic had to be called in to fix the machine.... the zipper attachment apparatus that was sold to me was mismarked so the quilt top was cattywampous. I ended up having to float the quilt top it would have been distorted "sigh". Marie said from hear out she will keep me company but is NOT doing any of the quilting. I think she's serious about it too.
By the time we were done dealing with all the issues, I only got one quilt top done, that sucks! I was up until 3 AM getting that 2nd top done, zippers on etc!! In Boise there used to be a quilt shop that had "valet service". For $25 they would thread machine & bobbins, put your quilt on the quilting frame ready to go. After today's fiasco, I'm thinking that's not a bad price!
While we were at the shop I got a call from young friend. his 20 YO step daughter was driving, they were involved in 5 car pile up, her passenger friend and younger sister died in the accident. When we know when the funeral is, I'll know more about if we can make it. It's LONG drive and I have a mandatory training on Thursday.
I finally got to meet son's girlfriend & 4 YO daughter. That little girl is CRAZY about my son!!! He is sooooo good with her. Girlfriend is nice, attractive and son is seriously in love with her. She is more cautious having been married, divorced and burned already once.... I liked her and hope things work out. I believe he'll be moving to Oregon to be closer to her within the next 6 months.
Morning, brrrr it’s a damp cold day, been up since 5 or so and still 8n nightie but I am keeping my self busy, going from quilting to knitting and cleaning here and there lol..even Ziggy just wants to cuddle so,can’t see much changing today...
I do have my notepad out trying to make sure I’ve everything I need for pie making Saturday...mustcall,Melanieto,see,if thanksgiving dinner is Saturday or Sunday?
Wow Pat, sounds as though you had a terrible day yesterday, I don’t use zippers.
Sounds as though you son may have met the love of his life..here is hoping.
Dianne, smiling at your pumpkin pie experience. Know it’s expensive for pies, filling is mega$$ but I thought that was to extreme..beside I would feel I let family down not making my own.
Always a good thing when you like the new person in your child's life. Happy for you Pat. We have a rainy day here.. It will be a good day for snuggling in..have a snooze..watch some Netflix.
Much the same here, I don’t have your rain though..had enough these past weeks..
Not good, calling for a wet Thanksgiving, wouldn’t be so bad except Greg and Mel want to do it at campground..big sigh
Thank you for the bday wishes, today should be the end of the celebrating for another year :-)
Lorna will be laid off within the next couple of weeks, not a bit too soon as she is really feeling her body revolt working in the cold and wet outdoors .. hard work pulling and prepping 28i gardens on your own, using a walker for balance ..
Her Mom is doing well physically (we think) but, mentally she is losing ground quickly. Her short term memory is not good. She can't remember my name or her DGD or Dinlaws ..Lorna's brother is taking her fpr a docs apt on Tues to make sure the bladder infection (kidney) is finished. Her family doc is in Aurora, and, neither Lorna nor her brother like the doc as she is quite slack with their Mom. I'm sure her brother will speak up !!
We MIGHT head down at the end of October. Unsure as we will have to take Piper our diabetic Westie with us, DH can manage the girls alone, but not the injections for Piper .. I just worry re the weather along the north shore.
Waving to everyone ..
~M~
PS .. windy and very cool here, but, sunny :-)
Morning!
M our weather is the same here. Just glad it will be sunny and dry.
Will be able to run LuLu outside today and get rid of some of her crazies.
Going to go and get my day started. Dishes will be the second thing as I already made breakfast. DH wasn't too happy with it. Oh well I don't care. Food is food.
My gamily would have been grateful for breakfast, ANY breakfast if I'd just make it!!! other than the years my sons had Zero hour class at school, I don't cook breakfast. Back then, I would make them a breakfast burrito from scratch, wrap it in foil and send them out the door. Otherwise I knew they would have NOTHING for breakfast.
I am hoping that as Gloria & daughter Corina come to town, and I get to see them more, Gloria will let me take Corina for an hour or two so they can get some alone time. Prying Corina away from my son Kevin might be a miracle. she is stuck to him like glue! What is funny to see Kevin with Corina in his arms, while Corina reaches over and hugs her mom. Corina doesn't want to GO to her Mom, just hold Kevin & Mom at the same! Corina does NOT like to go to her father's, and there are few people that Gloria trusts with her daughter, so it may be a while before I am on the trusted list.
BEAUTIFUL weather here. I should go sit on the back patio, need furniture out there!
M, Short term memory is generally the first thing that "goes" but Lorna's mother is also having issues with LONG term memory as evidenced by her inability to recall long standing information like names. She likely can no longer put past events in proper order. She likely will become disorientated as to place as well, not remembering that her current home is HOME. It's a tough decline to watch.
Vicki how now to see you post..when the girls were here from Ohio a few weeks ago they were going through names on my mileage post, your was once of them. Hope you drop in more often.
“M” if you can believe weathermen they are saying above average temps till mid November, how believable they are I don't now. This wet cold weather is hard on the bones, don’t know how Lorna does it.difficult with a sick furry, know that when Sharon comes with me we have to leave after 6:30am and by by 6:30pm. She has started to show me what to look for, what to feed inuk and how to give him his shot incase something was to delay her one day.
What always worries me in these new relationships is the children becoming very attached then things not work out.
Finished the quilt on the frame, set a tree skirt on the frame, regardless how often I say, leave 3-4” on batting and backing, nope, think it might be a tad to small, we will see..I won’t quilt it till she looks at it. Although I’ve been quite productive (even knitted 1/2 a scarf) I don’t feel like cooking..guess it’s grilled cheese, soup or kraft dinner, biggest decision of the day..
Must say that salve (14% marijuana) seems to have helped pain, bought small jar $30 to try, when I think of the cold/heat pads I used twice a day it’s not much more..
Going to have a hot bath, then eat..been a long day, been up,since just after 5
What is for eats at your house?
My quilt shop insisted on 10 inches across both ways, 5 for each side. Personally I have not quilted anything very big but so far I have used some of the length but no width really.
With 5” on both sides Pat it gives room to fudge/square the piece...
I’ve got it lined up, on all the peaks I think she has enough play to square it leaving 1/4” for bindIng.
Oh oh, remembered I bought fresh loaf of raisin bread yesterday and 4 ears of corn at Grandma Lambs, guess that settles what is for supper..
Rained off and on all day. It's pretty wet to walk the TH several times a day as I usually do so they are antsy tonight.
Raisin bread.... yum Betty. I love it with Cheese Whiz on it.
Pat I hope you get to spend some alone time with Corinna. She's a lucky girl to have your son and you in her life.
Hi Vicki... good to see you here. How did LuLu make out today ?
Made a big pan of baked Ziti with Spinach. I was worried I might have lost my touch as I haven't made it in a few years. It tastes great. I'll freeze up some portions. I think I will make a big pot of Chili too I bought a huge package of hamburg at WM. It was on sale or I wouldn't have bothered. I chuckled as I browned some as I could hear Warren saying "That's profit"There was a lot of water in the pan.He worked with a butcher after school and on weekends when he was a kid. The 1 butcher took a big pail of water and tossed it in to the beef as it was ground up. The butcher said to DH "Now that's profit".
Had a little tear up today as I cleaned out a closet. I found 2 things Barb had made for me. I know they were made with love.
LK how is Blackie? I know you keep them in the AC but it must be hard on him with the heat when he goes outside.
Stay safe and well.
Blackie is doing good. Both dogs go out for potty breaks. After they eat dinner we play catch with tennis balls. Blackie has developed spots where is losing hair on his tail and back legs. Calling the vet in the morning.
I had a horse that got mites and lost small patches of hair on his legs. I got it cleared up with iodine. Boy what a mess! when you use iodine, hydrogen-peroxide on a horse's leg that has white socks and black knees, you get a colorful mess!! the hair grew back in it's natural color surrounded by all this orange, brown & motley mess!
Home again. Trip up was different, instead of our usual route we decided to follow the GPS....error....took us longer than it should have and it didn't know about construction and closed roads. My phone did know those and gave us the ways around them but it did add time.
Friday night we had our customary "party before the party" did food prep and made favors. then played games and ate nachos. The party itself was wonderful, most of my family was there so of course I enjoyed seeing them. Food was good, visiting and dancing was fun. A special moment for me, my cousin with the alzheimers was there and as I walked up to her I thought I her her say my name. Probably wishful thinking on my part but I will hold it in my heart.
Trip home was very long. stopped very briefly at daughters to drop off envelope of photos I had forgotten to take to the party,. Then to DGDs to see their new house. It's a partially fixed up older home but will be great for them. They had family there helping them so we didn't stay long. Worst was Kentucky, must have been a terrible accident, several ambulances and rescue vehicles passed us. We sat for about an hour and then crawled along for almost another hour before we got moving again. After midnight before we got home. Still considered ourselves better off than the accident victims. Was wonderful to go but good to be back home.
Glad to hear you had a great trip, other than the detours.
