Light rain this morning, glad I got the lawns cut..just relaxing for a bit, Darlene and John said they would be here around 9:30 so I won’t get into something til after they gone.
I sat and worked a part of the day cutting pattern out and pieces, almost done, perhaps this afternoon I will start sewing if still raining if no rain then I’ll do deadheading. Looking at the ditches ,they sure need weeding, think tomorrow is the day Ray comes to do them, yard looks unkept until they are done.
In the photo’s Carole you might have seen both, the Mandavilla is vining like crazy, should get longer supports..might try and bring it in this fall and see how long it takes me to kill it, I’m no good with inside plants. Makes gardening a little easier doesn’t it when you have help, Are you now enjoying sitting under the gazebo?it was further away from the house if memory serves Me?
Karen, what are you up to?
Debbie clock is ticking, still have the date circled for Ohio girls visit? Sure hope you can come.

Best/Worse/What did I Learn Today? Come sit a spell and chat with friends, all welcome...
Still frustrated with my embroidery machine. Thinking it's the machine as I was on the phone with Cathy yesterday and still no luck. I'll probably end up taking it in. What I get for buying used but cannot afford new, too many thousands.
Every year I buy myself and my DILs brother each a red Mandevilla. We then spend the summer sending pictures back & forth seeing whose is growing bigger. I doubt it's anything special we are doing to them as the winner changes from year to year. This year he is ahead by a wee bit and here I am in the south. A couple years ago I won by a large margin and I was up north. Go figure.
What is your machine doing Karen? I bought my Husqvarna at Joann’s on sale I think for $1,500. Works well enough for the things I do. Hope a tune up will do the job..
Lordy it’s turned cold this afternoon, going to supper at friends on the lake, hoping it will be inside. Guess I ought to get dressed.
We have had heavy rains today. Now the sun has come out. and it is 74f. Nice.
I was glad for the rest from the gardening. LOL
How is the new toilet, Betty? Can we see a photo sometime?
Enjoy your evening.
I can do the regular sewing. I can do the built in embroidery. I cannot get it to recognize the embroidery patterns I downloaded, even though I know they are in the correct format and I also downloaded part I needed from the Bernina site. All that is correct. I had a person helping me who really knows the machine but, she was at work and had to go assist a customer. She said to call back if it still wouldn't behave and so I did but only got a recording. I guess she didn't get my message and she only works on Wed. so I have to wait until next week to talk to her again. I just have a feeling it needs to go in for a tweaking and I can only hope it isn't big bucks. So far she has been such a sweet person and so helpful. She never charged me a cent for all her help so far but I don't want to take advantage. Most Bernina sites really don't want to deal with an older machine.
Linda Kay, good news about no more heart procedures & hope they find the right meds quickly.
Karen, I know how frustrating that must be. My machine has to go BACK in, still not right. I had it home less than a week when it went haywire breaking needles etc.
Betty... you said you weren't going to kill yourself working to get the garden all weeded and sure sounds like you're trying!!! Do you have ANY kids to hire to help? I am so blessed with the neighbor boys, good workers and available!
Well I lost you all. Lots to catch up on.
Fantastic news LK about no more heart procedures.
Glad you are home safely Betty.
It is quite chilly this morning with a lovely breeze.
Had an appointment in Ktown with the doc who is going to do my cataract surgery. The first eye is Oct.30 and the left in mid Nov. I will be so glad to have this done.
Half of my winter wood is to arrive this weekend. Wouldn't you know Keiran is on holidays. I don't mind stacking the blocks of wood and will be glad to have it done ready for colder days.
Stay safe and well.
Evening all,
Almost ready for bed, lovely feel like kind of day, high winds, almost makes me want to turn on furnace.
Went out for supper last night, was about 2 bays over from where I lived..one of the best meals Ive eaten in ions, I even asked for the recipe for Greek potatoes, talk about yummy. Charley baked ‘sex in the pan’ along with homemade ice cream, am sure I gained 10 lbs. yummy..
Today I did a bit of gardening, went to Anne’s my girlfriend who just got back from Ottawa Valley and had me pick driftwood pieces I need for driftwood wood-chimes, then on for groceries, am now plum tuckered out..bedtime is shortly!
Wow Dianne, you are ahead of the game, did you order as many cords or will you use alternative heating?
Jeff is doing his annual work kayak trip with 20 of his co-workers tomorrow, Greg agreed to do pizza’s, nice they get to spend the day together.
Trying to figure out how I want to entertain myself this weekend, be busy and yet relax lol
Looking for forward to seeing that wood all completed!
It was a satisfying day, the work week was not as ugly and intense as the week before, I'm grateful for that! I sent in a request for 7K $ free standing lift for a client and hope to find out the results of the committee meeting (to review request) when I get back on Tuesday. Praying for good news, it would make such a positive change in the life of the client.
I look forward to seeing the driftwood chimes..each one will be unique. Great idea.
Wow, 7K for a lift..medical apparatus certainly are expensive.
Betty, I know you have mentioned the stair climber you have to go up and down your basement stairs. Would you mind telling me how much they cost? I have a feeling \i may need one in the future if I am to stay here in this house.
I bought an acorn lift,I believe it was around 5k, makes a difference if it’s a straight run but so much more if there are turns..I use it when my hip is giving me the what for, when I had appendix out and was preparing for what may come, craft room downstairs and lord forbit I would not have been able to go downstairs to enjoy it.
Pati hope it gets approved, Which lift are you referring to?
Have Darlene’s tabble runner she so loves, now that I have it back I will make placemats for her..she is hoping for 6, doubtful I bought that much fabric and she will still be grateful to get 4
Later this afternoon I might put a birdhouse together so I can get dimensions for 5 more, before you know it Ohio girls will be here ready to take on the project
That ought to keep me out of mischief this weekend.
http://www.ewclift.com/ That is the cost of construction, training and special 2 leg sling (because of person's weight) and it can be reconfigured to fit in a different location if person moves. this is NOT like a floor hoyer that takes 2 people but like lift system in the hospital that can be used by ONE person safely. It can really be a game changer for some people.
I have met the owner/designer of the equipment and he is truly a motivating guy, very likeable and committed to what he does. He originally designed this for his own father and then gave up a much less demanding (and MUCH higher paying!) job to make these available to the public. As he said it "My mother applied Catholic guilt! OTHERS need this!" He is a perfectionist and personally does the install work.
Oh wow, can’t even imagine the difference it would make in someone’s life!!
Sure hope you get approval.
Worked Outside this morning and made some headway, then Sharon called in morning to know if I wanted to go shopping with her so off I went. Ended up buying myself a lighter weight saw in got 1 Birdhouse is done, won’t glue the birdhouse to the base makes it easier for painting was half in mind of leaving the roof off to make it easier to paint but thought not..
Got the chills so decided to have a hot bath and crawl into bed, likely just being tired. Hoping to get up tomorrow morning and put in a few more hours.
Rained a bit this afternoon, hope Jeff and his crew didn’t get to soaked, Greg was cooking pizzas hope the rain didn’t affect him either. The tall ships were in town they’ll be leaving tomorrow I think, did a reenactment last night, crows were horrendous, glad I didn’t go.
Morning, brrr 63 this morn8ng. It will be a sunshine day! Not sure of the high for the day but thinking I just might look for heavier clothing to play in the gardens..lots of bird activity out there, hmm could they be telling me something, like fall is in the air?
I see that the ditches have been cut so guess my guy was here yesterday, when I got home yesterday afternoon the entire street had cars along the drive, few parties going on so I didn’t notice, guess with rain and sunshine and working full time job he’s working Saturday’s, looks good though.
Not a lot going on today, need Greg to bring me my pump so I can empty pond, know What I am buying him for Christmas as one of his gifts, borrows it every spring and fall for his pool and I always have to call for it, because he did lunch for the kayak group I’ll wait till about 10. Did a birdhouse yesterday, I’ll pick up lumber for 6 more this week and get them all made next weekend, easier to do in progression than one at a time.
Wonder if Susan is busy with her friend Susan and has gone camping? Hope it’s not because she is unwell.
What are you all up to today?
More of the same hand repair on friends quilt. I can only talk to person at Bernina on Wed. the only day she works. If we don't figure it out this time. I'll see if it needs to go in and be looked at.
How close to being finished are you Karen?
I’ve been outside all day between weeding and emptying the pond so I can check the water pump in it I’ve kept myself busy, sitting here near the pond waiting for it to be empty enough so I can go in and check on the motor and thinking to myself what a stubborn person I am but I’m hurting like crazy and I won’t give up.
Greg and Mel here earlier way to Barrie, seems something is leaking on pool fixings so we’re heading out to Cisco and pool store. Just go on inside for lunch and was sitting on the couch and the first thing he said was it’s Mill’s like an old people’s place couldn’t figure out what he was saying but it came to me, I’ve been spraying ointment on my neck and shoulders because I’m in so much pain that the Whole house smells like ointment.
Thinking another 10-15minutes I should be able to get in the pond and play with the pump and see what’s going on, it runs for a few seconds then it stops so could be a short but if it is I’ll set up the waterfall unit I have an use it until I can get stateside for a pump I was there about a quarter of the price, here is hoping.
Have a fire pit full of weeds, Lordy time away sure makes extra work..Here waiting for the pond to empty and there’s about a dozen or so of frogs jumping, have a container one didn’t make it boo-hoo..Mosquitos are out in full force, am sure they’ve a pint of my blood..
Hi all - Betty - how's your knee?
We've been busy here, with Susan visiting, and all the other community things we do. Had the Park BBQ yesterday. It was good. Not as many attended though - only 14. We'll see how next year goes.
We have been running back & forth to Three Hills to get my bloodwork taken 3x a week - it's been up & down like a yo-yo. My blood INR has gone from 1.7 to 3.9 in one week. 3.9 is when I'd have to watch not to cut myself (risk of bleeding that won't stop)......... well, that's why I have to go again tomorrow, to Three Hills hospital to get my blood tested again. They want it between 2.0 & 3.0
Pat - you asked if I were diabetic - no. I do tend to become anemic though, and with having to cut down on Vit K and all those lovely dark leafy greens I enjoy because I'm taking Warfarin, I KNOW that's what the problem was - low iron. As soon as I started eating liver, etc, I became fine. It's an ongoing thing - my other lifelong meds block iron absorption in my system, and with Warfarin, I'm not to eat foods heavy in Vit K so no iron rich veggies.
Today Susan & I are going to work at our Library here - the library group that comes once a year is coming on Tues and will want to take books away (grrrrrr) and we don't want her to take new books like they tried to do last year. We'll cull books out of our library & give THOSE to her.
Going to have a turkey dinner for Susan tomorrow - don't have to wait until Christmas, do we?
Well, best get going!
Susan, I can't remember if you mentioned it or not, you weren't a good candidate for some of the newer meds that don't require INR and specific foods?
I will most likely finish it tomorrow Betty. One I have to redo the whole thing and another just the dress. It takes a while to pick off the old pieces to use as a pattern. I had thought I could just make a pattern but no they are just enough different. I press the old pieces then cut new and press in the 1/4" hem. get each piece placed and pinned and finally ready to sew. I'm very slow by hand. can only do a short while and the cramps start.
Morning all, might get rain later today but right now it’s a sunshine day!
Been up since 5:30 a.m. this morning waiting for daybreak, no sooner could I see outside I got the pump (clean impellers) back in the pond, glad there is no need for to purchase another..Joyce offered that she and the girls would bring me one in a few weeks but all is well.
Susan, I’m glad you are keeping up with monitoring your health issues and how much fun you are having with Susan..when do you go camping?
Karen I’m sure this quilt will be as treasured as it once was..can’t wait for photo’s..did you happen to take a before photo?
Girls are coming this morning, time to clean myself up and organize an area where they can work..what a mess I’ve made of the craft room this weekend..
How is the weather in your neck of the wood?
Drats tried catching Ziggy as the skunk is walking the gardens, thankfully he decided on his own to follow me in..bestie stock upon supplies I’ll need because I know one day they will be at odds with each other. Hard to see in photo.
My knees almost healed.. Wrist still giving me problems bit almost back to normal from my fall at the capital building in Washington.
Would like to burn the weeds I put in the pit before it rains but green and won’t burn so guess it has to wait.
I don't have a pic of the whole quilt before I started but I do have some of the blocks. I'll post some side by side after repair.
Oh Betty!! Your poor knees!!
Karen, you are such good friend to take on such a HUGE project. I could NEVER in a million years do that. Hand sewing is NOT my friend and it does not sound like it's yours with cramps and all. How long can you sew before having to stop & rest?
Hungry for corn and I need a few other things so heading to midland..think I will pick up wood I need for birdhouses..don’t want to be leaving everything till last minute.
So enjoying hear8ng the spray of my pond again..maybe I’ll see when I get back if I can sit outside, here is hoping.
Had Ziggy inside all morning, hoping skunk is in its hideout for the day..
You do know me in your back yard.....and a skunk...is not going to end well.
How many cats did I attract there? And squirrels? Oh no.
I was thinking Debbie you could befriend him and take him home..disguise him as a black/white kittie, am sure border patrol would let him thru!
Ive always wanted pet skunk or baby possum 🙄😇
Betty try and get some Skunk Off - works like a charm on both animals and clothes. I got mine at the vet's. So I went from having a pink Samoyed on my driveway to just rubbing Skunk Off on his fur. You are supposed to let the tomato juice on for a goodly amount of time in order for it to work.
Where we live in this immediate area, I mean within square mile, I have not seen skunk or dead skunk. Now at my sister's, they are VERY common!! Trying to keepher dog from having a close encounter is always a challenge! .
My proposal for the purchase of the $7000 lift for my client was approved!!!
Awwww Pat, so happy for your client.
Great news Pat, once approved is it installed fairly quickly?
Morning all,
Sunshine day out there then they are calling for rain Thursday,Saturday,Sunday and Monday so anything I need to do outside should get done today and Friday...now they have called for mega rain quite a few times this summer and it past us by.
Joanne is dropping in this morning for a visit, should take five and make some muffins but then she is on a diet and likely wouldn’t appreciate being tempted.
Time to water the gardens
Supplier said 2.5 weeks.
Does it need an installation process Pat.
Had company this morning, did lunch and that did me in..picked up corn on the cob, left over yellow beans, mini potatoes, greats eats then bedtime for me..
Joanne brought me fresh eggs ,veggies, made a cucumber sandwhich, talk about delicious..
Should be out watering but weatherman says rain tomorrow so I’ll wait..here is hoping.
Most of the time is spent in fabrication. It is custom made to fit the room without attaching to any walls or floor. It can be dissembled, reconfigured and moved to another location with re-customization at a fraction of the original cost. The quality and thought that went into this devise just blows me away!!
Hi Pat - no, I'm not a candidate for the newer blood thinner drugs, because I am also on an epilepsy med and they said that Xeralto (for instance) & my epilepsy meds would be bad together - "life threatening" was the term they used. So, I stay on on Warfarin for the rest of my life. They've had to lower my meds because recently my INR had gotten to 3.9 and they want it to be 2.0 to 3.0. I go for another blood test on Monday.
Betty - we're not going camping this year - with my having to go for blood tests all the time, there's no real time and our motorhome likely needs a new battery anyways.
Pat - have you gotten the lift installed yet?
Betty - your poor knees! Is your wrist any better?
Morning all, says rain later today but I went out and watered, not too confident in the weatherman...actually 6:30 must be mosquitos sleep time as there were none out..
Been taking time to set out fall quilts and decor, with the girls coming end of August and leaving few days into September I though a change of color in the house might be nice. Lordy bright yellows, oranges, greens and maroons sure brighten up a room.
Pat, bet the client is extatic, for her it will mean what?
Sorry you weren’t able to get camping Susan..when does Susan leave?
My boys are camping, big concert venue, think Havlock, about 30 of them..Greg and Jeff all set up, hope not raining in their neighbourhood.
Cereal time then think my day will entail making shell of birdhouse
This concert venue in Havelock is big doings. When I worked at IGA all of the teens wanted to go so we were short staffed all weekend. I was just glad they had a good time.
Well my get up an go has just plain gone today. Can't wait for Keiran to get home so we can stack the wood. Maybe I will just putz around the house today
Great news for your client Pat. I did a show one year 'Cottage Life' and the booth beside me was selling lifts/elevators to take pepole from their home down to their dock. He did a cracking business.
I might still be at the lake if I had one of those. Hadn't been able to go to the water is 4 years.
