Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends old/new..come sit a spell..

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi All will have to catch up tomorrow. I had a full day out today. DMV for Health Card and Driver's license renewal, then haircut and highlights. Then I signed up for a new cell phone. with Freedom Mobile. I had my other cell phone for over 4 years and it was out of space etc. I got a Samsung Galaxy A50. I have been playing with it for hours getting it set up with apps and learning how it all works.

Susan..your son's eye ailment sounds very serious. I hope it all heals quickly.
I haven't heard of Calmylin. My BIL has had bronchitis with a very bad cough for a month. I will see if he can get some.

Betty can't wait to hear how it goes with your garden helper tomorrow. Mine is coming tomorrow too. But I just have him for two hours. It's a burden lifted from our shoulders. :) I hope you rest and point, and direct him so you can rest your shoulder/neck. pain

Waving to all.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

DS Kevin saw MD today and the eye is always 50% smaller /healed. He is no where near as much pain and is not in the eye patch all the time so life is getting better! He also got the referral he needed for hernia surgery the end of this month. Things are moving along... get that son fixed up and moving on!! LOL

Happy 4th of July everyone..

Verona, ON

Happy Independence Day !!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning..think LIndakay sent me her weather, 88 with a feel like 100, very humid!

How will you all be spending your day?

Pat it is good news that Kevin’s health issues are being addressed. Bet you are excited to have 5 days off, knowing you it will be all work and no play.

Carol, you just reminded me that I must look at my health card, seems it’s been quite awhile since I had to have replace..liked the old ones better when you didn’t have to renew. These new phones are to technical for me,even with being shown I wouldn’t retain. Do you still do all the garden vignette?

Think I’ll go look for one of those neck coolers I used to make, am sure I have one somewhere I can give to Devon if he comes today..Sharon says he usually arrives around 10..wonder where I will put all the brush and tree limbs until I can burn them.

Must go online to see if township has a fire ban or not today, could burn some although freshly cut might not burn.

Ran my bath, if I keep chattering likely be too cold to enjoy....

See you in a bit

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy 4th of July everyone.
It will be quiet here today. There is a small parade at noon. We might go watch it.

Lyndonville, NY

Happy 4th everyone!

Betty we have that heat and the AC is not working. I am dripping!

Pat/Psych....I have the same eye disease. Keratoconus was diagnosed in 1994, and I have to wear hard contact lens in both eyes. He said he wants to put off transplants till late as possible....and that INTACS are promising, which is a permanent contact lens. BUT with my eyes doing same as your son, getting inflamations...mostly in the lid....he is unsure how my eyes will respond. At 300.00 a set for my lenses....and one popping out and impossible to find, it gets quite pricey. 2 eyes drops daily I get bummed out.

We are getting ready for the parade and town festivities.....but I don't think I will go much farther than front porch.

Betty, I saw that side of INUK on visit Sunday. He was fine out of crate with Sharon, but in crate...he was NOT happy to see me. Sure is a beauitful boy though SO is Paris.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, Inuk is very protective of Sharon when in his home or crated...yes and you tend to lose them often do you not lol

hope you all enjoy your community parades...

Just love dependable workers..a no show
Will call my guy if he doesn’t show up today

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I am hoping to get some things done here this morning and then go to my sister's for today, overnight & most of tomorrow. LOL... she lives within 20 miles of me, I just need a break. Son will unwrap Ben tonight and the caregiver will be here tomorrow morning so I have Ben's care arranged while I am gone.

Our game plan is to make up all the clothing bags for the Cabbage Patch dolls. Skirts, shorts and most shirts can be worn by either CP or 18 inch dolls. The long pants and more fitted tops are not interchangeable. By bagging up the CP stuff we can more accurately assess what we have to work with for the 18 inch dolls. That will guide our sewing efforts more effectively.

We have the long arm quilting machine reserved a week from this coming Monday & again 2 weeks later. We probably won't schedule in August as Marie's daughter & family will be with her for 3 weeks. I am having a heck of time finding where I put the rest of my quilt tops that were ready to quilt!!! I will find them... even if I have to empty that storage barn!

Verona, ON

Same weather here as Betty and Debbie. We have an extreme heat warning going on. I just don't handle the sun like I used to when younger.

Stay safe, well and cool

Victoria Harbour, ON

Devon got here at 12:30, car broke down, his wife drove him here, hot to be doing manual labour..gave him the neck coolant scarf, he was very appreciative.

Oh Lordy where to find a place for all the brush while I burn a little at a time..should have gotten a shredder

Here I am laying on settee out on back screened in porch, feel lazy and Devon working...Lordy I’m in pain..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

You are NOT lazy Betty. He is earning his wages, you are paying his wages.

Not as hot here, and our humidity is rarely high. We live in a very arid region. People think of Washington as the Evergreen state, and while that is our name, they totally discount the Southern & East portions of our state. https://content.lib.washington.edu/cmpweb/resources/map-rainfall.html

Victoria Harbour, ON

Which color is your region? Very humid here..

Just not me Laying around while someone works but it’s taking all my time to get off settee to show h8m what is next.

If he keeps cutting I’ll have no tree limbs to hang me pretties lol

Understand completely Betty about feeling guilty while Devon works. I cancelled Keiran today as I spent most of the night fighting a vertigo attack..I knew I couldn't work along side him especially in this heat.

Just to top everything off I have poison ivy. Anyone have a suggestion for taming the itch. I can't use calamine so have been putting AfterBite on it with little success. Cold compress helps but again short lived relief. I remember my mom making a compress with oatmeal to ease the itch just can't remember if it was just oatmeal and water. When I was about 5 or 6 we were in a park near Grand Bend and I had to pee. Mom sent me in the bushes and yep my whole backside ended up covered in poison ivy.

Deb do you have a dog show this weekend?

Pat it sounds like you have a great weekend planned.

Stay safe, well and cool.

Lyndonville, NY

Dianne, I would find a bar of phells nappa soap, wet it and rub on poison ivy. Mom always had me do that and let it dry on skin. Ill check spelling on name. But it worked

Betty, yes I do lose contacts frequently. If eye changes shape they pop out easier. Just got new one 2 weeks ago.

I look for jewel weed Dianne, they used to call me little lulu when I had it..to this day I go in search of wet areas, seems to grow there..slice open the stem, juice like in aloe Vera, and rub on poison ivy, works quickly..I’ve even taken the jewelweed plant when it’s older and no juice, cut it up,leaves and all, add a twitch of water and cook..I bottled the juice that I cooked and kept in refrigerator for when kids got it and jewelweed out of season..an elderly native Indianwhom I adored told me that close to anything poisoned is a plant that cures..spent a lot of time with Cathleen, wise woman..

Got to tell you he made one heck of a dent in the garden, need him one more day..so much lighter...ought to help the plants

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jewelweed

Sorry to hear you have vertigo again Dianne, likely this heat wave isn’t helping

Debbie, must look for that soap, not so sure we have it here in the stores..
When will you have A/C again

Pat enjoy your sister time, Sharon as me if I wanted to go out for supper tonight but no can do..going to have hot bath and get comfy in bed. Made a call to my niece who works with CBD oils, registering to get on the system to get it, at this point will try anything.

Diane try Aveeno oatmeal bath soak. Worked wonders when we had a bunch with chicken pox. I think Fels Naptha works best if used at exposure to prevent a break out. I don't know if it will help after rash appears.
I had a very persistant blistery rash that kept spreading. Nothing would touch it until Dr. prescribed Clobetasol Propionate Cream, USP 0.05%. It also worked for my hubbys poison ivy. I plan to ask Dr. for another script when this is gone.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, apparently the compressor is dead, so we have to go buy a new one.

DH went out looking after parade today, nothing met his satisfaction or budget.
Said he will look again tomorrow as next 5 days will be brutal.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, baking soda paste is good for poison ivy as well.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Never made it to my sister's. All my plans faded to dust when I went in to help Ben get ready and he had spilled the urinal on the bed and had to wash mattress pad, blankets and all... I'll try again for Sunday afternoon & overnight since I have Monday off and a caregiver scheduled in the morning.
I did get a lot of things done that I had been procrastinating about. I had a
I have been blessed, NEVER had a bout with poison ivy but have had exposure to stinging nettles while on the West side of the state visiting as a kid. We don't get those things (poison ivy or oak, nettles) here in the dry land.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry your plans didn’t work out today Pat, know you were looking forward to spending time with your sister....Here is hoping you do you get to spend a little time with her tomorrow.

Sharon said she would like to go shopping in the morning and out for breakfast that will be so different for me.

Paul dropped in around lunch, Darlene and John are dropping in around 430 then Alan And Charlie called said they had something for my garden and wondered if they could drop pin so looks like I’m going to have company know early night for me.

Kind of think I know what Alan and Charlie are bringing me, think charlie’s mom had a special flower that propagated, I so admired it when he showed me flowers last year of his garden, could I be so luck their gift is the plant?

Hard to get used to the yard with so much cut down

Looked out last night and was surprised to see so many solar lights on, with all the growth they couldn’t charge.

Should get up off my fanny and go tidy up my craft room, I was zillion projects on the go

Hi - still coughing, but not as much. Heading to the hospital to get my followup x-ray.
will talk later.
In the meantime - TRY not to overdo, everyone (yes, Dianne, Betty & Pat!!)
Take care of yourselves!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I still hope to get to my sister's part of this weekend to sew. It's a 5 day stretch for me, and I'm loving it!!! I have gotten so much done!!! Stuff I have been procrastinating about. I have been to 3 banks today, 2 thrift stores (to donate) and I scored 9 pieces of clothing (to cut into more doll clothes) for just 10 cents each. , bookworm to drop off books to get book credit, drop off dresses I bought for a family in need, pick up Rx, Target (they would not honor my gift card! I have to contact them and figure out why...) Finished mounting a BIG used mail box on post in my back yard to store some gloves, pruners etc. Got some weeding & some pruning, even a little transplanting...

I bailed out my tiny little pond. I need to finish cleaning it and reinstalling a pump. I'm finally going to get some koi in it this year. I had about decided to NOT do fish again but temptation won out. (The lure of FREE small koi from DSIL)

Picture is of spring last year, the pond is between the dogwood and the wisteria, at the edge of the patio

Our new weekend caregiver for Ben starts this Sunday. I hope she works out...

So inviting Pat..

Susan, you sure have been having a time of it..let’s hope you are on the mend.

Started my day with a call to say a friend passed away, my age..

Then went to Barrie with Sharon, picked up her new sewing machine, had breakfast out then groceries.

Did a bit of watering, this heat sure is doing a number on my gardens.

Thought I’d give them a drink, no sooner started that Greg and Melanie dropped in for a visit, more bad news, Cathy who had said she would look after Ziggy while I was on vacation called me this week to say with her mom having Alzheimer’s, Cathy herself having breast surgery on 29th and with her dad not well said it would be too much, Greg said Cathy’s dad went to the garden, on his way back to the house collapsed and died. I’ll have to give her a call...

Devon comes tomorrow to put in another day, apparently he burnt the engine in his truck awhile back and needs $$$, willing to work all hours he can get!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh my poor Cathy has a very heavy plate. Hugs to her.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Goodness... poor Cathy.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about Cathy's Dad.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you all, will give her your condolences.
