Guess I haven't heard of it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hope Linda's ok - that's worrisome!

Well, I'm fine, but had a bit of a scare this morning. Chest pains - pretty bad. Have been having pressure for the past couple of weeks and a bit of pain, but today - PAIN. Dr took x-rays & bloodwork etc, and didn't find anything wrong. He is sending me to a specialist in Red Deer to get a heart & stress test, to investigate further. Just to make sure - better safe than sorry. I didn't know that heartburn could be without the burn.......... He gave me meds for release of gas, and must be helping cuz I'm burping lol

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Pat, the tall green with the pale green/yellow is the same as the red/purple. Both Gopher. I have another that has yellow leaves, purple main stem and multi colored blooms.

I got 3 pots done today and roving guard helped me put them in the back landscape. I am getting closer. Vern spent about 1 12 hrs with me taking in the sun while I planted. Several neighbors stopped by to say hi to him. It was a beautiful day. 74 degrees. Mow and blow guys will be here tomorrow and I am going to have them dig in the new soil for the tomato bed. I have decided I just cannot do that.

Betty, they will be in Grand Rapids for a 3 year residency.

Time to get the bed tuned down foe Vern. Still having problem with day light savings time and when I think it is 4pm it s actually 6pm.

Susan, take care. We will await your news from the doctor.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Disappearing 9 patch? Very nice.

the weather the last few days has been great!! Snow is melting... under the snow the tulips were about 3 inches. One poor tulip plant is nearly black but has a bloom swollen & almost ready to show color, poor thing!

I got the 2nd coat of paint on the twin headboard and the King head board put together. Ran out of time to put the stain on the King. I hope to get the twin headboard in place tomorrow. I doubt I can put the King in place. I don't think I can get the stain done & dry in just tomorrow....

No green card, until that comes, Son & wife, toddler cannot come. It could be August before they can leave China. OR some official could get ugly and deny the green card completely.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, bitter cold here today, icy because the melt of yesterday is now ice, girls will have to be careful when they come to sew this morning. Ziggy has been out but has quickly come in,not sure what he wants to do, looks out the front from inside, I open the door and right back in he comes.

Pat, one of the easier patterns for someone’s first quilt..wow you’ve accomplished much this weekend. I was so busy feel like I didn’t have a weekend lol. That would be difficult re green card, what would he do in that case? A worry for sure.

Susan, sorry to hear about you scare..you will be glad to have the tests and find out for sure, in the meantime nothing strenuous for you..

Sharon, 3 years is a long stint..you would think they would try to place closer to home.. can understand why time change confuses Vern, does a number on a lot of us..I find it harder with fall change than spring. You are lucky that you have help from time to time with your gardens..guard should do more walking around the subdivision lol.

Best I make another coffee before gals get here

I got five shirts dyed yesterday. I bought some shirts on clearance that were dirt cheap and most were black and white. I did an overdye of pink. I really like the way they turned out.
Pictures when headboards are DONE and in place.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Haven't heard when I'm to go to the City to get my tests. I await their call.
In the meantime, Bob got a call from his Dr - says everything is good, and he should continue to take his cholesterol & thyroid meds. Does anyone ever go off these once they're on them?!?!?!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Thyroid, doubt it. Cholesterol.... not without careful monitoring. You don't want it to RAISE and be sorry you stopped the meds!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

low thyroid would cause low energy, right?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, you do not choose where you are doing your residency. They choose you. Their first choice was Chicago, Austin, TX, then Grand Rapids. He is going to be an ER doctor and you interview where they have the best residency programs and then they choose you. They did not interview in California because of the cost of living. Las Vegas does not have a very good teaching hospital.

Vern joined me again outside today. I got 4 pots done today but made a mess in one area of the back landscape that had been just cleaned by the landscape crew. Tomato bed is dug so I can get them planted tomorrow. That was done by landscape crew after I asked.

Housekeeper was here also so the house is clean so all in all it was a good day.

Tomorrow evening we are all heading to the airport to welcome Grandson Ethan home from his church mission. He has been gone 2 years. Vern is going with me. I have enough grandchildren in town to help me get him in and out of the car.

Have wonderful weather but hope your snow does not melt to quickly. Hugs from 78 degrees in Las Vegas.

Verona, ON

Good morning.. Yes it is 4:10 and I am wide awake.

Sharon I know you treasure the times Vern can be outside with you. Warren had this kooky attraction to grocery stores. I know weird right? Even if I could get him into the Escape and he watched me go into the grocery store he was happy. To sit on the deck was pure bliss. Envious you are planting tomatoes.

Pat you are just a whirlwind getting everything done.

Betty I am glad you didn't pay up for this machine before you found out it wasn't for you.

I'm watching News for the Insomniacs . No matter who the anchors are they are delightful.

Susan I hope you get to have your tests sooner rather than later.

Karen where are you ? Playing with your new machine.

LK I was happy to read you are feeling so much better.

OK full moon ... the coyotes are yipping.... need to bring Diesel in as he tends to answer them.

The lake looks lonely without the ice huts.

Stay safe and well.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Actually I was playing with my old machine and doing ...UGH...hand sewing of binding. Every time I keep saying, this time I'll use the machine, I'm donating this after all. Then I can't bring myself to do it. Just one side left to do and in the mail it goes. Mailed it to MI for the quilting and it goes back to MI when done. Sending new baby quilt in same package so a bit of savings there.
I awoke at 5 this morning, guess I didn't want furnace guys to catch me in my jammies. They are working in our room too so I had to get my shower early or stink all day. Now I'm wilting already, I'll be snoozing soon I'll bet.

Lyndonville, NY

Hello all,

A busy week here and doing what I can.

Betty how is Aunt Muriel? Is Mom coming this weekend?

I was thinking spring coming fast but woke up to snow covered yard.
Been on the phone trying to get my glucose meter figured out as keep getting
errors. Well, sensor is burned out or such (as are my fingers from trying it all time) and sending new machine.

Finally saw my robins outside couple days ago,and now the cats are chirping at them. lol A big blue jay also but no luck getting a picture.

Be careful moving Vern, worrisome for your back, and happy you have help! I know seeing your Grandson will be so nice.

Susan, when I was pregnant, I thought I was having miscarriage. MASSIVE pain worse than labor or anything I had ever felt. Was taken to the ER, nothing was changing....was gas pain. OMG Gave me a shot glass size of Milk of Mag....and took care of it. I NEVER thought gas pains could give such pain or indigestion like that. Better safe than sorry with your past history.

Enjoying reading of your plants and succulents, just send me all extras lol I think weather killed my little red wagon off this year.

Debbie

don't know if I'm getting my posts posted - both Cubits & Garden.org won't let me post & looks like I haven't "read" the posts..... Here goes......

Well... company came a day early and came in VERY late. One of their kids threw up twice and I found it on my hall and entry floors my way out to work, good thing I was aiming at getting to work early. I cleaned up everything and still made it on time!

Later discovered another kid "had an accident". Getting ready for company and cleaning up AFTER company is NOT my favorite thing. They left after I went to work, and was gone before they got up, so I never even saw them. They are coming back thru on Thursday night for dinner & NOT staying with us that night.

I think Ben got it all mixed up and they probably never meant to spend more than one night... I need to remember to ALWAYS speak directly to get information and never trust what Ben tells me. How many times must I learn that SAME lesson?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Bob got a call this morning, asking if he wanted to come in today, rather than wait for March 29th. They had a cancellation, and although I had a Red Hatters "do", I made it home afterwards in time for him to get to his appointment in another town, and for me to walk over to Crafting/Library.

Victoria Harbour, ON

morning all, wow almost afternoon, seems I’ve been unusually busy this past week and time just slips by.

Sun is shinning although quite cold out. Am waiting for a call re Aunt Muriel in hospital, want to go out and see her, brain issues, not sure if blood bleed.

Will be back to read and respond..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sending prayers for Aunt Muriel.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, light rain here, snow is slowly melting, great for me, sump pumps are not working overtime.

Aunt Muriel is going to Orillia hospital today to see if her heart is strong enough to undergo an operation then a surgeon Monday will decide..she has accepted death, fought and won over cancer about 20 years ago and says she would much prefer dying in an operation vs major stroke and a vegetable..goof frame of mind.

I was up early, got housework done, dusting and a million kitty footprints washed away, not for long though, mud in walkways and Ziggy loving to play outside so must not put floor cleaning mop too far out of sight.

Can’t believe tomorrow is Friday again, goes by so quickly, soon April and warmer temps.

Pat, how could parents miss vomit all over like that, wouldn’t be com8ng to my house..you are more gracious than I..a sick child yes but clean up after the child.

Debbie, yes mom is suppose to come this weekend and Sharon coming tomorrow as well and spending the night, Lordy I’m in for some stress, both don’t really talk to each other since mom acted up around Christmas..brave me lol. Send me a robin please..how is Shannon?

Karen you likely would have given furnace guys a treat 😂. Did you need new furnace on top of all else that you weren’t expecting?

Dianne, how is the snow melting in your neck of the woods..likely start seeing cottages arrive this weekend for cleanup..so glad you told me about the soups, need to buy more, ran out yesterday..is your foodland making chicken pot pies? Are are delicious ,so yummy..not a wonder I’m outing on weight,

I justify the weight by saying what ever I’m doing so far I’m nit in hospital..think it’s been 5 months, touch wood.

Sharon, bet your gardens are coming to life..does the gardening staff you use do all the homes in your subdivision?

Next month is the dirtiest month, everything looks so sad, dirty, junky etc. Not nice until May..speaking of May, pond time, what a thought.

Best I go downstairs and get the floors done then try to finish quilting. a wedding quilt, wanneta’s First quilt..like to get it off frame today and put suzanne’s On

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodness, you got up and started running. I am still in my jammies. Need to get a shower and get moving.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Furnace was 20 years old so....
We are going back to the quilt show today, quite a bit we didn't get to see as yet. I already have an Amigo on reservation, my legs are very unhappy with me from yesterday.

Having beautiful weather here, in the 60s yesterday, thinking we are on the upswing now. So much is blooming already. Really wanting to do planting but we have much to clean up and fix up first. We are finding many shrubs that were just hacked off and stumps left. Thinking much was overgrown here and they just did what they had to to make presentable for sale. Trying to make a plan rather than just planting Willy-Nilly.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, prayers for Aunt Muriel. Yes, she is on top with her frame of mind.

Good heavens, Mom and Sharon. This is NOT a good mix. I should pack a bag and save you. lol

Shannon is not doing well at all. Her 2nd or 3rd bout of flu, or still the aweful virus...it won't leave. Calms then comes back with a vengeance. She is at the doctor right now. AND leg/knee still not healing. Has another new brace for it, but walking is throwing off her back also as she is trying to compensate for the pain.
Waiting for a phone call from her.

So worried with everyone in the floods, you all be careful.

Debbie

Verona, ON

Morning everyone.

Dreary day here waiting for rain or wet snow. Envious of the 60's temp Karen. I would love that temp year round.

Feel like a sloth today so will just take care of ashes, haul in blocks of wood then read for a bit. Greg Isles has a new book out Cemetrey Road and is a great read so far.

Safe travels Betty.. Sending prayers for your Aunt Muriel. She has an excellent frame of mind going into this. Pace yourself Betty this weekend.

Pat this is horrible behaviour of your guests. They had had to know about the mess.

Stay safe and warm.

Lyndonville, NY

Shannon just called and she has Influenza Type A, worst strain of the flu.
Took her out of work this week and ALL of next as it is highly contagious and she
works with little kids (6 weeks age to 12 years). I was with her all evening Monday when she started sniffling and all. Incubation period is 4 days....I pulled out the orange juice.

Maybe should add some brandy!

Verona, ON

Oh Debbie a hot toddy sounds really good right about now. Join me???

Lyndonville, NY

yes I would!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying that Shannon is feeling better soon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is not good news Debbie, is she staying with you? Think when you work with the public you are always at risk.
Dianne, if it weren’t for my meds think I’d join you and Debbie in hot toddy.

Wanted to finish the quilt that is on the frame but my shoulder is killing me, pain8ng big time.. Broke down and order Dr.Ho unit, says it will be delivered 7-14 days..hope it’s the 7 days. Hungry for a hamburger but think maybe a bowl of soup will have to suffice.

Going to run a hot tub with Epsom salts, look for heat patches and get in Jammie’s..Lordy look at the time..

Big smile, would hurt to energize myself for all goings on this weekend lol
Likely muscles in full stress

Everyone Around You is Grieving, So Go Easy

by John Pavlovitz
(published February 26, 2019 facebook.com/johnpavlovitzofficial)

I found this gem on Facebook and can not help sharing it. I think it is absolutely true and so important.
~Shannon

The day my father died, I was at the grocery store buying bananas. I remember thinking to myself, “This is insane. Your dad just died. Why the h*** are you buying bananas?” But we needed bananas. We’d be waking up for breakfast tomorrow morning, and there wouldn’t be any bananas—so there I was.

And lots of other stuff still needed doing too, so over the coming days I would navigate parking lots, wait in restaurant lines, and sit on park benches; pushing back tears, fighting to stay upright, and in general always being seconds from a total, blubbering, room-clearing freak out. I wanted to wear a sign that said: I JUST LOST MY DAD. PLEASE GO EASY.

Unless anyone passing by looked deeply into my bloodshot eyes or noticed the occasional break in my voice and thought enough to ask, it’s not like they’d have known what’s happening inside me or around me. They wouldn’t have had any idea of the gaping sinkhole that had just opened up and swallowed the normal life of the guy next to them in the produce section.

And while I didn’t want to physically wear my actual circumstances on my chest, it probably would have caused people around me to give me space or speak softer or move more carefully,—and it might have made the impossible, almost bearable.

Everyone around you; the people you share the grocery store line with, pass in traffic, sit next to at work, encounter on social media, and see across the kitchen table—are all experiencing the collateral damage of living. They are all grieving someone, missing someone, worried about someone. Their marriages are crumbling or their mortgage payment is late or they’re waiting on their child’s test results, or they’re getting bananas five years after a death and still pushing back tears because the loss feels as real as it did that first day.

Every single human being you pass by today is fighting to find peace and to push back fear; to get through their daily tasks without breaking down in front of the bananas or in the carpool line or at the post office. Maybe they aren’t mourning the sudden, tragic passing of a parent, but wounded, exhausted, pain-ravaged people are everywhere, everyday stumbling all around us—and yet most of the time we’re fairly oblivious to them:

- Parents whose children are terminally ill.
- Couples in the middle of divorce.
- People grieving loss of loved ones and relationships.
- Kids being bullied at school.
- Teenagers who want to end their lives.
- People marking the anniversary of a death.
- Parents worried about their depressed teenager.
- Spouses whose partners are deployed in combat.
- Families with no idea how to keep the lights on.
- Single parents with little help and little sleep.

Everyone is grieving and worried and fearful, and yet none of them wear the signs, none of them have labels, and none of them come with written warnings reading, I’M STRUGGLING. GO EASY.

And since they don’t, it’s up to you and me to look more closely and more deeply at everyone around us: at work or at the gas station or in the produce section, and to never assume they aren’t all just hanging by a thread. Because most people are hanging by a thread—and our simple kindness can be that thread. We need to remind ourselves just how hard the hidden stories around us might be, and to approach each person as a delicate, breakable, invaluable treasure—and to handle them with care.

As you make your way through the world today, people won’t be wearing signs to announce their mourning or to alert you to the attrition or to broadcast how terrified they are—but if you look with the right eyes, you’ll see the signs. There are grieving people all around you. GO EASY.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

This is so true. We never know what someone else is going through.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought it worth the reading...

Waiting to hear about auntmuril and heart doc
Wether Sharon and/or mom are coming tomorrow..Debbie, best you get over here, mom will behave for you

I’ve put a heat patch on shoulder, sprayed it, used Voltaire’s, doesnt smell the nicest but hope it helps relieve pain.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Make sure you take your pills Betty.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

The little girl (5?) was sleeping the game room/ family room, her parents across the house in the guest room sound a sleep when she got sick. She didn't wake them, they didn't know. I just happened to be the first person up (to go to work). Her brother was in the recliner next to her etc... just one of those things.

Having fractious parties in the same house is NOT my idea of fun Betty, BEST of luck!

It was 64 today! In less than a week, piles of snow over 3 feet high are gone... Still lots in areas were the sun doesn't reach (like North side of house) but even those will be gone soon. I have tulips up about 3 inches (some MORE).

All forward motion on my projects have come to a halt until at least tomorrow, the company returns tonight for dinner & then on to his brothers an hour away to spend the night and then start making their way back home. I can hardly wait to get back to working on the King size headboard!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Much better day at the quilt show today. the Amigo does make a difference. I was glad we were walking yesterday as it's easier to walk into and around the venders booths. Today was to look at the quilts and take a ton of pics. Serious envy for the beautiful workmanship. I did manage to find another couple items today I couldn't live without. We even came home the long way via the Smokey Mountains Parkway drive, a new section just opened and the views are amazing.

Daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter arrived this evening. so good to see them all. We will be busy showing them around this beautiful countryside. Hoping the weather will behave.

Verona, ON

Good morning.

I've been up since 3 am. It rained all night but it hasn't been a gully washer. I have company coming later this afternoon so I better have a nap.Or they will be talking to my eyelids.

Karen do the people who exhibit the quilts mind if you take photos? When I was on the show circuit many of the organizers banned cameras to protect the integrity of the artisans. I watched on You Tube clips of quilts from the Appalachian folk - many were women back in the 40's and 50's. One lady in Virginia did amazing quilts. The designs blew me away. Many designs I have never seen.

The TH had their first swim of the year yesterday. Mosquito Creek has thawed so they played in there and took a spin through the rapids. They fell asleep early last night and I just now routed them out of the bed.

I had 1 of those robo calls at 6:15 am telling me that they have been trying to contact me for 2 hours and my Visa will be cancelled unless I respond. I don't usually answer calls when I don't recognize the number but that early in the am you immediately think something is wrong with someone you know.

Safe travels today Betty.

Stay safe and well everyone

Pictures of the quilts by exhibiters are fine as long as you do not touch. Some shows provide white cotton gloves but if they don't you must not touch. Most of the vendors had quilts hanging on display and many of them had signs to not take pictures. The vendors did not mind if you touched what they had on display. The vendors are trying to sell quilting rulers and such and want you to think you need the ones they have in order to make their quilts. Some we talked to didn't mind if you took a photo, especially if you bought from them.

Verona, ON

That makes sense Karen. I was doing a major show once where cameras were banned and the signage could not be missed. The promoter outed 1 guy for all to hear. He came over the PA and described what the man was wearing, exactly where he was in the building. The guy had a camera hidden in a duffel bag.

Found it interesting about the white gloves but it makes sense. Sticky or sweaty fingers are a problem no matter what your art form.I take that you were able to buy supplies so that really makes it a great outing. I went once way back in the 70's to a Sewing Exhibition in Toronto. There were over 200 exhibitors and since I had never been to one my eyes were wide open the whole time

Temp is dropping.... I knew the warmer temp was too good to be true.

What's everybody up to today?.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pat - what happened to the little 5 yr old girl? It sounds serious! I must have missed something.

Today I can finally take a break & do some much needed paperwork, cleaning of the Library, and planting seeds for my veggie garden. I'm way behind by about 4-6 weeks, but it's been crazy busy for Bob & I.
Yesterday I was asked for a 2nd time if I would please be the Secretary for Silver Willows - no thank you, said I.
Then, I was asked if I would be the President (you'd be so good at it Susan) - no thank you, said I. I have way to much on my plate now, as it is! As Secretary of the Board of Kneehill Wellness Society, Librarian, work Wed nights at the bowling lanes, bowl Thurs aft & evening, have coffee time on Mon morning (where I sometimes open up & get ready for) and am on the Board at church, plus the prayer shawls I've been making........ (they've told me they have enough, so I'll finish this one, and one for a friend's friend, then I'm done for awhile).
Oh well...........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning came early here as well Dianne, I’ve been up,since 4:15am, got wanneta’s Wedding, quilt off the frame, was snowing out so wasn’t sure SHARON would come but she got here just before 8.

We both put in one heck of a day, I put suzanne’s Quilt on the frame, managed to quilt a tad over half, hoping to get it off the frame in the morning.

Sharon got her 2 Essie throws outlined, the rest she can do at home..I squared 35 blocks for her, she threw them on the floor to see what the might look like, now for proper placement and sewing together, she can get that done at home..she left me 2 throws and a quilt to quilt at my leisure lol

Called mom this morning about the snow, said she would come tomorrow soooo Debbie there was no need to be referee lol

Just as well, I’m tuckered out, think a hot bath and early night is what I need..

Karen, what did you end up buying today..

Best part about going to Pennsylvania at Easter is going to look at Amish quilts and Amish wares.

Yes Susan, think you are over extended doing what is on your plate, kudos to you for realizing that.

Dianne, didn’t realize Sharon was bringing lunch so rushed to foodland this morning before she got here and grabbed muffins and soup..got home and realized I grabbed broccoli and cheese, know you are not a fan of that one,,grrr look like the potato cheese container.

TH will be begging for out more often now that nicer weather is here..mighty cold for a swim though.

Big yawn
