TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

PO says my Garden Swap buddy will get her giftie on the 31st (Wed)

Lyndonville, NY

My gift shipped and will arrive Aug. 10 to Aug. 13.
I think a snail is delivering it.

Verona, ON

I sent my gift a week ago Wed by Expedited Post and it is still not there. Supposed to take 4 business days.

GP tested me for Lyme yesterday. FYI there is no human shot for Lyme but for those of you who troop around outside like I do there is a Rx. You must take it within 72 hours of removing an engorged tick. There are only 2 pills so it is a super max dosage.

Stay safe, cool and well.

Did you test postive for Lyme or are they giving you meds for precaution.

I know your area is loaded. I stopped DH from taking Sam in the orchard for the same reason....I am afraid of the ticks.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - the PO's new name is Snail Mail - oh wait, that's Always been its name lol

Lyndonville, NY

Yes, because the pony express exhausted and fell over. Turtles and snails only applied

Victoria Harbour, ON

Quick post, just got into Sonora..long story..tomorrow

Best day ever, stayed twice as long as we should have in Death Valley..beyond belief
Loved it, even if hot

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you are enjoying the trip.
Susan, you need to post photos of your home improvements.
Pat, how are you and Ben doing?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ok Linda - you asked for it lol.. This is our new front window. Now, to put the siding on. This was a standard 5-panel bow window, but now we don't have the "dividers" it's actually more light in.
Here's the bathtub, before the tiles get installed. He's supposed to come this morning to install them. Bob installed a light above the bathtub, and the drop ceiling now covers the plumbing we brought in last winter to avoid them freezing.
I'll post the picture of the new side window later.

Things to do, places to be this morning, get to give Liz a big hug for all of you..

No words for yesterday, don’t know where I ever got the impression that Death Valley was flat?? Silly me, have to say it’s mountains was every bit as spectacular as Grand Canyon..

First leg of the trip we barely say a car, mid point we stopped at visitors Center who gave us a few must see and off we went..look at the days weather as posted by staff,
Hottest I’ll ever see!!

Attendant told is to go down to the “devils Golf course” then come back through a one way not to be missed “painters drive” to view some Mother Nature’s colourful rock foundation, flats and sand dunes . We never left Death Valley until 4 (not sure what I going to do with my case of 24 of water lol but that is ok, sure would have needed it in 129 degrees (53C)

On to Yosemite which would have given us an arrival time of 9 or so..gassed up just before the park entrance and attendant said 5 major fires in park and that an earlier one that afternoon might have closed Hwy 120..we were excited when we saw ‘park open” drove one hour and kept commenting how the terrain was not what we thought it should be, we were right, on wrong road, had to backtrack but we kept our sense of humour, the sign was telling us it was Hwy 120 and it was but we had to drive another 15 miles for 120 east and of course no signal for phones/gps..decided to get a drink and gas up, asked the attendant about travelling through Yosemite at night, said if it was she she would go north around the park and it would bring us to out hotel destination, put an hour longer. To our day, what to heck we say lol what is ant hour..

Got the tell you I’d have hated to see what was worse in Yosemite because we started a climb up the mountains last sign I saw said 12,000 above sea level and we still climbed after thatto say there were sharp turns would be minimizing them, think of a spiral, that is what I drove through (lucky me I was driving) these turns you had to do 10-15 miles an hour..ended up we just laughed, what can you do, beats crying lol. Asmuch fun as it was hoping up, the coming down was as much fun, was so thankful I couldn’t see for darkness because I knew I was hugging the cliff..of course I know know when they say there is a ‘pass” this old gal isn’t taking it🤪

So it was 1 before we got to our room, slept like a babe and now it’s off to San franscisco for yet another day of adventures

Another thing that interested me, we were commenting on the craziest painted cars we saw in Death Valley only to be told that car manufactures test their cars and tires in Death Valley because of extreme heat, there is so much spying on each other’s designs that they paint these cars with a type of anti penetration paint so computer technology can’t be stollen.

So we were told modern day cars can travel desert in the extreme heat we were experiencing..

I have to laugh, I asked visitor attendant what the feels like temp would be, she said at 129 is doesn’t really matter does it lol

Death Valley has broken record for hottest place on earth. 134f so our temps yesterday wasn’t too far off

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Both of us recovering. I had to go back to work . it was an exhausting day with plenty of drama. WHY do the caregiver or client high personal crisis events always happen Friday?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Your photos are amazing. I did not know Death Valley would look like that!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Looks like quite the adventure Betty. Not what I expected it to look like either, I guess I just expected more desert looking.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think we are all surprised. Looks like you had a great time.

Susan, your place is looking very nice.

I have lived in Las Vegas, since 1960. Never been to Death Valley. Not something a sane person does. LOL....

Pacifica, CA

morning all,
oh my I think we destroyed betty and rita roflol
their still sleeping, they arrived at 1215 in the afternoon yesterday just amaising to hug her again rita is so sweet and nice.

so around 130 we decided lets go play in san Francisco.
we started with little Italy drove by church where dirty harry was filmed.
then off to china town walked for blocks, noticed this Asian guy kept taking pictures of Kenny, now before my filter comes off lol, I told Kenny why is he taking pictures of you? he looked at him and he smiled and said with all your tattoos you have a great look to film with all the colors in the buldings then they talked and it was fine,
he does photography and comes to the city to take his pictures.
so then there was some Chinese playing some guitar instruments they handed betty one of there guitars and she sat and played with them.

from there we went to coit tower, use to be a look out point for fires we were to late for tour on top so we were just going to go to the next place well in the parking lot thease younger kids had blasting Michael Jackson billie jean, I turn and look omg theres betty dancing away getting her jam on, while all the passengers of the car are cheering her on..

from there we hit pier 39 and fishermans warf lots of walking in pier 39 they have thease platforms where the seals and sea lions bask away and sleep play and fight
so we watched them for a bit they are so loud.
from there we went to the end rita had a bowl of clam chowder and I had some fresh crab and and shrimp perfect snacks lol
so off we went again to palace of fine arts just beautiful at night, betty and I stayed in car Kenny took rita in we were exhausted our feet were barking.lol
so from there it was 830 ish we were going to end the night with famous daves bbq
on our way to freeway Kenny says oh why not we got nothing else to do..
so off to Lombard street we drove down the crooked street . then off to restaurant
which was close to home we got in didn't talk for a minute we all raced for bed,
today back to san Francisco.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

you did a great job with your narrative!! Go Betty hhehehe

Pacifica, CA

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Nice drive from Sonora to liz’s, fruit groves all over, when we left you could see the heavy smoke from Yosemite (we were at the top end of it).

What a day we had yesterday, was so excited to see Liz amd Kenny, great host and hostess, as for being a tour guide, cantget better than Kenny..he was so hung go to makesure we saw all we could yesterday and even though there are marathons all over in San franscisco we will head back today to tour many other areas before we head out tomorrow..

So what did I learn about San Francisco??

Omg talk about hills maybe 10blocks up whenyou drive up them you are almost parallel, sure glad I didn’t have to drive in the city. Another thing I learned was it’s darn cold..had to buy a coat lol

I forgot my camera yesterday so Rita took mega pictures and will send me some so I can post some later..by then I will have some from today.

Also Liz got her garden pressie..I was hard pressed to find something she could put on her deck so bought her a silk lounger Komondor, tan with mega flowers so when she sits out on her patio she will look part of the plant decor..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Well let's hope Kenny doesn't mistake Liz for a potted plant and hose her down!

I have the first coat of paint on the armoire, most of 2nd on the entertainment center... I will be 100 out, good day to stay in!

Ben JUST woke up it's 11;45. time to put away my "toys" and tend my husband.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you are enjoying your busy trip.
Pat, you have been busy too.
