Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chatwith friends old and new, come sit a spell and tell us about your day!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, nothing going on about the trip. Lol, just travelling through Death Valley is intimidating for these twoold broads lol

Dianne, it’s going to be one of those days you get 20 raindrops/dark and dreary then a few more drops, just enough to screw up a day

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cooking bacon/eggs/homefries for jeff before he heads out for the week..smells yummy, want some but afraid to try..big sigh

This afternoon I’ll go do groceries and pick up a few things

Boonies, SD(Zone 4b)

Betty, wish I had your energy. I get tired just reading your posts. LOL

Went to town yesterday with the intention of buying some wood flooring for my living room. DH met me after he got off work but we didn't buy anything in the end. We don't know what we are doing, so decided to wait for the next sale and after we talk to some contractor friends. With our old farm house, the floor isn't at all flat, so we may need something for leveling before we lay the floors. And we need to get the dastardly radiators out first. I'm going to have a Radiator Removal Party when that happens. I hate those things. You can't change the furniture around and they always have spider webs and dust. It's futile to dust those things. Going to do a happy dance when they are gone!!

DH also wants to paint the house this year. It will be the 150th anniversary of the farm next year, so he wants to do a family reunion at noon, then a keg party in the evening for our friends. Sounds like work, but I don't know what isn't. The preparation needs to start now.... I would like to remodel the bathroom, but I don't know if that will happen before next year either. Wish I had a magic wand....

Gotta run. The weeds are calling. So are the mosquitoes....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ruth I lived in an old farm house for about ten years, I was in my glory..think I was an old soul in a previous life so although mega work I sure envy you.

They have so many different wood products out there that it’s mind boggling, you are right in talking to someone who deals with flooring..if you got a few estimates would they not tell you what you need to do first? Thing with old homes is you just don’t know what you are getting into, sometimes a million things need replacing or go wrong

Family gathering sounds wonderful..mega work thought..how is your weather?

I did my washroom, all except the tub, was thinking maybe inthe spring if all goes well I might call that company you know that computerize the area, tub you already have, manufacture it with acrylic, enclosure and all?? No muss no fuss.

went and did my groceries and waving Jeff goodbye at the lake, I took more out of my cart than I bought...our town is sponsoring ‘buy canadian’. Ended up with bananas from costa rico... you know me I love my fresh fruit, no could buy so looked at frozen product and when thawed just add bananas and apples..hoping that will work...filled my cart with jello, puddings and yogurt, ice cream and such.

Only had dry toast this morning and I feel full and tummy yucky
Going to have hot tea

Betty - that looks yummier than bacon & eggs & fries!!! So lovely & fresh & cool looking!!
Sorry to hear you're in pain, but I can understand why, with all you've done!
Pat - hope the sale goes through without a glitch - know you'll be happy when it's done :-)
Jet tub is only going to be used jetting about 1 or 2 times a week - watching the energy consumption. It is nice though. lol Bob used it with some soap, and Really got some sudsing action going on!! Too funny.
Working on the baby blanket - decided on a different pattern Didn't like how the other one looked. Maybe I'll do it another time. Didn't take any out, because I have enough wool to do an entire new one. The colours are variegated mint, yellow & light turquoise blue/green.

I have planted astillbe more than once and never get it to flourish.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, no one in their right mind goes near Death Valley during the summer. We have had rain two days i a row. Grand Canyon, Arizona side, was flooded yesterday and many campers had to be airlifted out but no one lost.

This is our Monsoon season and in the SW, if it rains, it floods. Our humidity is up to 45% and we are all moaning. Our humidity is normally 5%. We got 1/2" of rain. Other side of town got 3" and flooded.

My car just turned 2 years old and has 4600 miles on it. Shows you how much I drive.

So looking forward to giving you a hug even if you only have time for a short visit.

That amount you had to pay for a spool of thread is outrageous.

Vern and I are both fine. He is losing more memory daily. My brother came today and Vern did not know who he was. Again getting a little testy. Because of the high temps, I have been spending more time inside and that makes him happy.

I do check in everyday but I do not have much to say. Hugs to all of you. Sharon

Hugs to you Sharon.

Lindakay it’s not thenauseabutmore the bowel not working so I have that full to the throat kind of feeling sominute I eat tummy says too much food...eating really light today.

Sharon so sorry to hear Vern is having more memory loss, must be so difficult for you. That sounds like nasty weather, how long does it normally last for?

I too am hoping to meet up with you, won’t be at beginning of the trip but on our way back to Las Vegas when we have to day to tour the area. Are you closer to or furtherfromthe southern route from LA to Vegas? You will have to d mail me your addy so I can key it in mapquest to get a sense of where you are.

Pat hope lesspain today..are you off for a few days? Hmmm I think the astilbe thatare doingbest are in 1/2shade 1/2sun..do love their colourful look.

Karen are you home?

Must go see if jeff posted an update..always worry when he travels alone on the waterbuthe iswell prepared, ifthere is a gadget out there he has it.

Pacifica, CA

betty forgot to mention because my mind is crazy..
just knowing your coming out here im not thinking right sorry im just too excited!
one year we did go through death valley in summer back in 1980 it reached 118 in daytime and 80 at night.
been there 4 times but we went in the spring/late spring/ late winter
you might want to think that part out again, its a fascinating place, but it can be dangerous for two women alone too.
if you skip that part I think you would have more time to explore the coast and La a little more. just a thought, Kenny is thinking out a plan for site seeing.

Verona, ON

Here I am moaning about it being in the 90's here ...... I am thinking I had best stop.

Hugs to you Sharon.

Not much going on here everyone is too hot to move. Again very little action of the lake. I quite enjoy hearing the kids' scream with joy as they play in the lake.

Very glad I have a pump into the lake for the flower garden. I am encouraged to reclaim more of it next year and start planting more perennials.

Have my garden swap ready to mail so will do so in the morning.

Stay safe, well and cool.

15th already? I swear 2 days must be passing as one. I am looking forward to the hand settling down some so I can at least use the exposed fingers of the left hand,. right now any use hurts, even pulling up underwear

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, I messaged Rita, if we wentback to Vegas a day earlier than planned and booked a sightseeing tour, between &250-$390each for the day it might be better..wait8ng for her to reply..

Heat same here Dianne, the little rain we got last night was just enough to dampen soil.waiting till later and will give good watering to everything. I too miss hearing the kids play, notmuch action out there.

When I went to drive Jeff to the lakefront in town yesterday in coming back I could see side view of Jamie next doors back yard, knew they were doing something, here they put in a large above ground pool..sure a lot of changes over there. I usually look for end of season sales and buy my perennials then, no advantage this year but come spring I’ll be happy to see those pretties.

One year I said to Walmart, those poor threes that are dead need to go to a home that willbaby them andbring them back to life, you should see them now..we could call them rescue plants.

Liz, one thing that is on Rita’s bucket list going down a hill on one of those street cars,me I’m not so sure lol. Think we’d be able to do that?

I’m with you Pat, start a monday and before you know it it’s friday..when you think of it won’t be long and kids will be back in school. Fell for you, nothing worse than a hand pain8ng, everytime you want to do something you aggravate it

Hi ladies, I haven't stopped by in ages, but know most of you know about our sweet Piper. He is in 'doggie hospital' after being Dx with diabetes last Thursday, but, as he was still unwell, we took him in yesterday and the vet feels it is pancreatitis, and, since the pancreas is the insulin producer, that is why Piper is 'off'.
I am awaiting a call from the vet to let me know whether we can bring him home today. The 2 girls are frantic without him here ..
I wasn't going to mention 'cost' , but, it's a good thing we have a couple of investments because having a sick animal is over the moon pricey, but, that said, we wouldn't have it any other way .. he is an absolute treasure.

Betty .. my gosh , I tend to agree with Liz re re thinking travelling through Death Valley ... I watched some footage of the flood in the Grand Canyon .. pretty hairy canary ..

Pat .. did you have a carpal tunnel release ? Painful for sure !!

Oh Sharon, big hugs from me as well .. and, to Vern too ..

Karen, the quilts are awesome !!

Dianne .. 103F here yesterday, today the humidity is unreal !

Susan .. nice to see your tub coming together, as well as the baby blanket .. love the sound of those colours ..

Betty .. did you have blood work for pancreatitis? The vet told us Piper will need to be on baked chicken and rice, perhaps very lean chicken and rice, all BLAND ..
Just hope you feel good for the trip ..

Vet just called, Piper doing 'better', but she still wants him to stay one more night .. gawd, I'll soon have to get a job !!

Lorna is doing well, she is nextdoor cutting the neighbours grass ..
Her Mom's house sold for an astronomical amount, and she is moving into s seniors complex .. and happy to be doing so as the house is getting hard to maintain at 88 ..

My brother is doing well following his heart surgery, SO happy about that ..he has to go back to TO to see the surgeon at the end of the month ..

DH is ok .. looking at a L knee replacement in Sept (end of) .. kind of worry re his memory sometimes ..

Anyway .. hugs all round

~M~

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

thanks for update M. no carpel tunnel. osteoarthritis, bone spurs. put in artificial joint in thumb

Verona, ON

Oh M I kinda worry about my memory sometimes too. Piper is in the best place for him right now - cool and quiet. Sending positive thoughts, strength and hugs.

Haven't ventured far out doors today. Did sweep off the front steps.... the chipmunks will not leave Warren's begonia barrel alone. They even move the chicken wire I have over the top to protect it. I have to sweep the stairs off most days - it reminds me of my DM telling me stories of ladies scrubbing down their front steps when she lived in Wales.

TH are sleepy - Diesel and Chaos have momentarily settled their turf war over the tiled bathroom floor. The bathroom is long and narrow plenty of room for both but Diesel won. Chaos and Duke are laying over the floor vents.

I would like to have a nap but fear if I do I won't be able to sleep tonight.

I'm thinking I will have chicken and rice for dinner - leftovers. M when I had my Sammies and they were both diabetic chicken and rice was a staple for them. Sometimes I did fish and rice just to change it up. More for me than them though.

Pat that sounds painful. Hope healing is quick.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - I had a nap yesterday, zonked right out, and Still slept well last night lol

I found my garden swap stuff, now to mail it out - one thing caused me to giggle....... my buddy will be able to figure it out, I'm sure.

I'd better head out to the yard - need to do some weeding, and will paint some on the garden wood fence, too :-)

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone.

Managed to catch a few winks around 3 am so it will be a long day. I should have had that nap like Susan did.

Spent over an hour out trooping through the bush before dark looking for my elderly neighbours' dog. This is the second time in a week he has escaped. This time he chewed through his rope leash. I hid all day from the heat then ended up over heated from my jaunt. I took them down a leash I use for the TH - it is airplane wire encased in plastic. Let him chew through that.

How many sleeps before you leave Betty ?

Verona, ON

Liz what are you doing up or are you just going to bed ?

Pacifica, CA

im up,
Kenny leaves for work at 130 am, then my awful sleeping hours kick in
so im up at 230 to 3 am.
diane I have to tell you I lurk on the pet thread and I am totally amused at the thudering heard , wish you lived closer so I could pinch all their ears

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, going to be 88 today then add in feel like factor..know some don’t believe in global warming but I tend to differ and mother nature is screemingto us that she means business..Lordy everyone is enduring high temps.

“M” as always it’s a pleasure to see you post. You must bebeyond worry, how is Piper, breaks your heart doesn’t it.Your post sounds positive for all, pleased good and your brother are doing ok and Lorna as well, must have been difficult for Lorna working in this heat, her season will soon be over. How is her new prothesis??

Dianne you and I are quite a pair,I was out at 2am calling for Ziggy, I had been calling 7when hour I was up checking, didn’t come home till 4:30, no markings of a fight so who knows what he was up to thus no sleep for mama..was going to try and sleep in but decided I’d nap later.

9 sleeps Dianne, waiting for Rita to call this morning so we can discuss a few possible changes about the trip.

Liz is it possible to do cable car?

Going to try cereal this morning

Pacifica, CA

yes, that's not a problem its all in the areas we want to be in.
look up Lombard street we will be there too.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ooooh Lombard Street...FUN...we did it in a Suburban. Fisherman's wharf. So foggy when we were there, we went across the Golden Gate and never saw it.

Verona, ON

Oh Liz the TH would love to have their ears pinched.lol Diesel loves me to spread his ears across my knees and then rub them. He has figured out how to get himself into that position while I read. That's why I have 2 hands... 1 for the book and 1 for dog rubs.

Okay Kieran will be here soon so I had better get ready for him. That means no TH outside with us - they can go in their enclosure. No garden work would be done if they were out there with us.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Th7nder storm moving in
Lots of thunder

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Verona, ON

Well Kieran and I lasted 90 min and not 1 second longer in the garden. I might be silly but I am no fool. No sleep + extra hot is not a great combo.

Send that storm my way please. My pump into the lake for my garden seized up this morning... grrrr.

LK you OK ?

Stay cool everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just left my region Dianne, lordy there were some bangs that made me jump, win is up, heavy rain at times.hoping it’s continuing your way. Just gabbed to jeff, he is amped for the day, glad he plays it safe.

Smart lady Dianne, much too hot to put in more than 90 minutes..
Sometimes to cheaperto buy a new pump vs repair

I still didn’t get out to plant plants I bought over the weekend, perhaps later

Lyndonville, NY

Hot and humid here. Watching a fire at a farm, the heat caught the field and tractor on fire up towards Rochester way and have about 5 fire companies called out.
Also large area from Niagara County to Monroe county without power from Transformer lines down....not related to the fire. Can't imagine in this heat!!!

I will gladly take some of that rain too Betty, we were promised some and it never came. OR if it did evaporated before hitting the ground.

Stay safe

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am fine. In san Antonio for dr appointments. Follow up with heart dr. I will be home this evening.

Lyndonville, NY

Travel safe and be careful in the heat.

It is so hot, I can't even feel the difference with the AC on....until I walk outside.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Much the same here Debbie, you sure know it though when you head outside, even Ziggy isn’t wanting out today.

Storm was short lived, more wind and boom boom..thankfully 10 minutes of heavy rain then moved on..are you on town water debbie, can you water gardens or are there bans..certainly water and fire bans here.

Not a good time for fires, are the fires close to you, couldn’t spread could they your way? Feel badly for farmers.

Lindakay, hope heart checkup goes well..safe travels home..bet you are travelling in hot temps..

Verona, ON

Same here Debbie and Betty. The TH have staked out their spots on the floor vents and bathroom tiled floor.

Still no rain. I'll buy a new pump as it is usually cheaper to buy a new one then repair the old.Not leaving the AC to go into the village today.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

we don't have water rationing this summer. thank goodness I am allowed to use house water as irrigation pump is not working

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oooooooh that heat - please be careful you don't get heat stroke, any of you!
We have a Heat Warning as well, for today & tomorrow. Supposed to get to 86F / 30c Will just stay inside.
Bob's put the aquaboard up all around the tub area - ceiling too. Now, to count out the tiles I have, for a pattern, and hope I have enough. These are ones we were given when we moved here (by someone who "paid" Bob in wall tiles, rather than the $$ she promised him!). We have a mixture of white, light blue, dark blue (navy), gray, and white. I gave the Granny Apple green coloured ones to our neighbour. I don't like that colour inside the house - unless it's a plant lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie and Dianne you getting this storm/rain?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am back home. It was 103 on the way home. Dr. Told me if my chest pains don't go away in 3 months, I will need a heart stent. Meds aren't working like they should.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

tiles instead of money was a bit of an insult!

Verona, ON

No rain here yet. It is still very hot and humid. I was going to take the TH to wade in the lake but they didn't even want to leave the house.

How's your hand doing Pat ?

Hoping Sharon's sleep angels find me tonight. Sleep well everyone.
