Quiet weekend for me. Too hot to do anything. I had a dog entered in a show, but no competition, so it would have only been for practice for her, and I didn't have the energy to spend the 2-3 hours grooming in the heat. I don't have air conditioning at home, I do have a window unit I could put in, but, didn't have the energy for that, either. Rain storm yesterday afternoon cooled it down quite a bit, and ended up with a blanket on overnight because it cooled down quite a bit. (Easier to grab a blanket than get up and turn off the box fan blowing on me!).
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chatwith friends old and new, come sit a spell and tell us about your day!!
Think we've all had this extreme heat Deb, guess other also found it too warm to groom and compete. We complain when it’s cold and snow and now because of heat..
House is 70, I just grabbed a throw and threw it on me, think it’s because I’m tired I’m chilled.
Are they calling for cooler temps for this week!
What do you get off for your July 4th?
Way to go on the free sod Betty. That is awesome.
Our home depot will not give a discount on wilted plants. They have to throw them away. :(
Guess it saved them from lifting them into the bin..was very pleased 8ndeed because to me they don’t look wilted
Congratulations on the free sod! except for the lifting in & out, it's easier & quicker - instant gratification!
Yesterday, for Canada Day, we invited 2 neighbour ladies. Carol & Linda. Linda's daughter (Sheila) was visiting so she came as well. Only time I'd met her was just after Linda's DH died, in January. Hate to say it, but I like Linda much more than her overbearing, pushy daughter. Sheila said that her mom won't be living in our community come the fall, so she won't be able to come to our Anniversary tea in October. Well geeze, even if she doesn't live here, she can still drive the 1 hour if she wishes! She & her DH were one of the 4 of the families that moved a home here from the same Park in Calgary. Sheila about bit my head off, to suggest that her mom would come (intimating that she'd still be living here? I never suggested that!) Anyway, that issue aside, we had a great BBQ with steak, potato salad & corn on the cob. Carol & Linda seemed to get along well. First time I've seen Linda laugh so much since Garth passed away in January (right after they got home from Mexico, and after his b-day. Same age as I am).
We had a lot of rain that afternoon & night, but not at dinnertime, so that was good, too.
I put up some canadian flag solar lights, and a banner I also put two solar round, red, lanterns in our trees. I got a Canada beach umbrella, but don't know exactly what I'll do with it lol
Morning all, another hot day but not quite as bad as the last 4, best enjoy it as the next 3 will be scorchers.
Was up early this morning, got the sod and gardens watered, came in to get ready for the girlsbut they decided they would hold off till next Tuesday, I’m thrilled with that as I’m moving a little more slowly this morning.
Jeff dropped in yesterday afternoon, I cooked steak dinner, washed his laundry (kayak garb) he showered and cleaned up and we had a lovely visit..
He was saying that when he comes mother’s day and all this garden art is sitting in the gardens i
The yard looks terrible but how lovely at this time of year..is that a compliment? Lol
Said he guessed gardening was better than bingo..
Kids
So today I’ll work on Sharon’s project and maybe get some quilting done on my cousin Gary’s quilt we put on frame but then maybe I might just relax 🤪
What are you all doing for July 4th? Would the holiday encompass today as being the long weekend?
I am unexpectedly doing a QOV presentation. People who are renting place next door this week are from Texas. He is retired navy Get this....he served on the USS Enterprise in late 60s early 70s and they were the ones who picked up the astronauts after they splashed down. Like Neil Armstrong and John Glenn. I'm uber excited.
You should be 3xcited Karen, what an honour..did you have the quilt made or will it be a busy few days of sewing?
Karen, that is very exciting indeed. I hope you can get pictures.
Our 4th is just Wed. no extended days off. Because we have had no rain here, it is very dry. We still are waiting to hear if the city is doing the fireworks display. We are in a burn ban, so that means no one can shoot them off in the yard.
That is not good, kids so look forward to fireworks..were lots here, think theydid them next door, which reminds me I should go check sidingbecause I heard something hit the house when they were being lit, forgot about that.
So will you go visit family lindakay/Karen or will it be a quiet day?
Just Weds off work here. My son is having a cook out, so will get to spend some time with my granddaughter. Hope to get back home early, though, since I'll have to be up early for work on Thursday.
More dogs run away during fireworks than at any other time.
Poor Sailor, it upset her to no end..they don’t seems to be minutes but for hours off on in the neighborhood..Ziggy didn’t seem to mind
They don't seem to bother my dogs, too much. They just run to the windows to see what's going on, and bark at all the noise. So, I not only have to listen to the fireworks, I have to listen to my dogs barking their fool heads off! I know some dogs are really bothered by them, I am thankful that mine aren't.
It will be quiet here. I imagine there will be someone in the neighborhood that will fire some off. There will be a public fireworks display in town, but worth fighting the crowd for a 15 minute display.
Our dogs are frightened of the loud noises.
Hot, hot, hot here with no breeze.
Kieran my garden helper came for a couple of hours early this morning. What a God send he is to me. He's all excited because we have a few small tomatoes. I told him he could have the first ripe tomato.
Duke has a problem with fireworks. Last night it was heat thunder that really riled him up.Poor little guy.Diesel and Chaos look at Duke as if he has 3 heads.
Deb how is your little girl feeling now ? Did they do the surgery ?
I don't know what possessed me but I put a roast in the slow cooker this morning. I sure don't feel like a hot meal.
Oh Karen what an honour ! Hope you were able to get some photos.

If I remember correctly, Karen was a quilt or two ahead!! Smart lady.
I have no pets anymore, not since I had to rehome my wonderful cat. She made life unsafe for Ben so she had to go for her and his good. I used to worry about my horses. I would run water on all the pasture and yard, corral the horses and hope for the best. My immediate neighbors on 3 sides were awful about long dry weeds, they were accidents/fires waiting to happen.
And actually neighbors did light up the place one 4th of July, an aerial firework landed on the horse trail and put the whole thing up in flames. I was out there with a hose and shovel, NOT thinking nice thoughts towards my irresponsible neighbors.
Fireworks are legal here, plus our property mgr & the owner of the Park are fine with fireworks.
Just didn't do them this year. Can't have winds 20k or higher, can't be a Fire Ban (wasn't then, but they happen often during the summer) and the winds have been high lately, so I'm sure I'd have to be very careful about fireworks here.
Happy 4th of July everyone..
Today willbethe hottest day yet so I’m watering sod then will do my gardens before heat of the day then I’ll just play in the craftroom. I could get the bench panel done for the back bench and maybe put a Santa quilt together, always something to do for sure.
Must find out if there is a water and/or firebrand on..know when you put new sod down even with band you can water.
What are your plans today, a soecial day for all of you?
Happy 4th!
No surgery, yet, for Bonnie. Surgeon said they treat the symptoms, not the x-ray, and that there is no limit of wear where they can't do the surgery. He recommended some joint supplements and therapy to keep her range of motion. We go to see the vet for therapy evaluation tomorrow. The technician recommended that I look in to pet insurance. She suggested one called Figo, that she says she uses, because she has a dog with both hip and knee problems. They will cover hip replacement, but it can't be a pre-existing condition, but their definition of pre-existing is not showing symptoms, and currently Bonnie isn't showing symptoms. If it wasn't for the x-ray, I wouldn't know. It's just confusing trying to compare policies!
My son is having a cookout this afternoon, so get to spend some time with DGD! I just hope it doesn't run too late. I won't stay for the fireworks. Some idiot was shooting off firecrackers at 2am this morning!! Arghhh!!
When we have water bans, we can water all we want, as long as we have the hose in our hand. No sprinklers allowed.
Ben invited his sister, brother & spouse, niece & 2 of the grandkids to come for lunch. I'm catching up on email etc and then getting after it in the kitchen. I'm just hoping he is up dressed and ready to cook burgers before they come.
Well I hope you all enjoy your special day..
Although the say today will be the hottest yet there is a beautiful breeze, actually nice out there, nice enough I’ll enjoy sitting out for a bit, might even have a banal on the lounge chair
Happy 4th of July / Independance Day to all my US friends!!
I've finished paperwork for reimbursement from the gov't re: renos. Now to mail the pkg.
Then it's off to paint the new fence board & the back of the garden gate. I'm going to prep it for painting pretties on the fence :-)
Too hot to enjoy anything outdoors. 108 right now.
Linda we have the high heat index. They cancelled ...or they dropped out...kids walking in the parade, any animals in it....so we had almost an hour of firetrucks, tractors, trucks....and 2 marching bands. Felt bad for them.
Just the 3 of us. I didn't even walk down to the craft show it is so hot.
it is horrible,I hear the neighbors with families having fun and partying, and I close the windows and put the music up. Will never be the same again.
How disappointing Debbie that the heat caused the parade to be but vehicles, understandable though, bet there were a lot of disappointed children..’never the same’ well next year girl you have to come here and celebrate our Canada day, want to bring some joy into your life..yep, hard when you hear neighbors enjoying family activities and you are alone.
One knows it’s beyond hot when you don’t want to even look what craft vendors have to offer..poor vendors, likely not a lot of walk by traffic to buy their goodies.
Lindakay is 108 with the feel like factor..think it reached 100today then add humidex and wow, great day to just mellow out inside.
Hope Susan they are quick with sending you dollars.
I was sewing on my last wedding quilt top..it’s finished..have enough fabric to do a ‘we still do’ anniversary quilt..must clean up but maybe it can wait till tomorrow
Our high was 111 today, with a feel like of 118. Patiently waiting on some rain. Small storm is about an hour away.
Morning all, another scorcher today then forecast is more bearable for the next week..don’t see rain though...
Been out watering the gardens and have the sprinkler on the sod, be nice if Mother Nature helped with a nice soft rain..few of the garden plants are suffering even with my watering. How are yiurgardens, much the same?
Hard to believe lindakay that we are getting same temps as you, don’t know how you do it ona regular basis..I’ve been more housebound because of theheatthen I am winter time.
Got the last wedding quilt top done yesterday, I’ve about 3 hrs left on the winter birds,on my list of to do’s and hoping to get it done this morning so I can move on to other projects, know susan doesn’t like hearing this but Christmas is a coming, and when you make much of your pressies July is nine to early to start.
Pat said she might come for the morning so best I have my first coffee and a bagel just incase, either way it will be a play day for me..
bet you are all lagging this morning after all the eats yesterday..relax today!
to work I go. Wonder how many mice I have in my traps today?? We have had a mouse problem and I have made some of the more "sensitive" people very upset by using kill traps. They just want them released outside.
I don't want to rub it in, our weather has been just 85 tops, that is cooler than usual for us.
Agree Pat, mice are nasty disease carrying vermin. If you let them go outside, they will be right back inside. They can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime.
We have some of those electronic plug in devices. They work pretty good.
Like these from walmart.

Good to hear you've had success with those, LK! I've been tempted to try, but hadn't heard from anyone who used them. I've tried the Fresh Cab, and other things like that, little pouches that are supposed to have things to repel mice, but they don't seem to help. I can't use poisons, and hate the idea of dealing with traps and dead bodies. Do you use the Bell & Howell brand?
I also have those lindakay, between them and kitty I think itscovered
Lordy what a storm, torrential rain and a lot of boombang..goingto cool thingsgown for sure
We have some mice deterrent lights we plug in, and they work a treat! Being in farm country, we have a lot of fields around us, so spring & fall they're disturbed and come scooting out to look for new quarters. Before we got them, we had mice. After, no mice. Except when I thought "middle of winter, they're hibernating"..... umm actually, they don't hibernate. Found one, and then put the light back and nothing since.
I was just out with Carol (neighbour) into Olds, and boy can she shop. I can't keep up with her - my feet are Killing Me......... so I'm soaking them now in Epsom salts & Tea Tree Oil........... aaaaaaaaaaaaah I go for PT tomorrow.
Yes, I use the ones in the link.
We have had rain today as well, but about 3/4 of an inch. Praying your pumps work for you Betty.
They keep saying rain but we're not getting it.
WOW Betty!! I think I would be creating a MOTE if I had that kind of rain!
Realtor called, they had the open house and have 2 offers now, a 3rd we'll get tomorrow and a friend called me to say they are going to the bank tomorrow so they can find out what their buying power is, they want to make an offer. Guess we'll see.
Good luck Pat.
