I've never gone duck bowling...... and don't like 10pin.
This is 5pin. Nice & easy :-)
I saw some seniors using a pole with a cup on the end. They put their ball in the cup and "push" it onto the lanes. Good for those with arm problems and no strength in their arms.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I googled Duckpin bowling. Apparently we don't have it in Canada?!?

Morning all, bright outside, cool but not frigid ..

With it being a clear day I’ve decided to take a run to Barrie, want to pick up the acrylic table top I ordered from the Quilting shop, then Factory direct, mom wants a pod coffee makers and they have one on sale, thought I could buy it amd set it aside for mother’s day although if I see her sooner I’ll give it to her.

Not much else going on, guess I’m keeping it for my trip stateside tomorrow.

Lindakay, did you ever make the Best Press Recipe?

Haven’t seen Karen around of late, hope she is ok?

Stress more when I don’t hear from friends

Verona, ON

Morning all ! Another gray day out there.

Susan Duck pin was popular in the Maritimes. We had 1 duck pin alley in our local bowling hall.To me as a kid it looked confusing.

My dad was a good bowler and played in 2 leagues. Mom thought it was a stupid game. I was the person who did the score sheet for 1 of his teams. The other team started at 9 pm on a school night so I couldn't go.

Love the idea of the pole for seniors. Makes lots of sense.

Went through my wood faster than I thought so will have to foray down the lane. Betty I will just have enough wood .... I hope.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I did make the best press. I love it. Thanks.

Victoria Harbour, ON

When I hear you say you foray for the wood I imagine you out in thebushlookuping for fallen wood, worry about that after my near death experience alone in the bush in subzero weather.

Glad you like the Best Press l8ndakaylindakay, sure beats the price they charge infBricstores..did you outthescent in it..

Ok it’s 9 now, will give a call to cookstown inhopes block #3 is in seeing I’m about half way when I barrie..

Gab later

Verona, ON

No Betty I am not exactly out in the woods. The cut and split blocks of wood are down the lane and some is farther back from the lane than others. Plus a tree came down in a wind storm and this morning I used my chain saw and got it out of the way. Every second year I have 8 bush cords in lengths of wood dropped off but not close to the house. I don't want to have to deal with all the sawdust coming into house and I am sure the TH would roll in it too. When Warren was alive we did go out into the woods to cut down trees for our winter wood.

So it's President's Day for some of you. Is that a stat holiday ? Here this Mon is Family Day and it is a stat holiday. It came about as there was a rumour going around that the government was going to institute a new holiday so the unions negotiated it into their contract. The original rumoured stat never came about but all these workers had a stat day in their agreement.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Washington's Birthday was first declared a federal holiday by an 1879 act of Congress. The Uniform Holidays Act, 1968, shifted the date of the commemoration of Washington's Birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February (between February 15 and 21, meaning the observed holiday never falls on Washington's actual birthday). Because of this, combined with the fact that President Lincoln's birthday falls on February 12, many people now refer to this holiday as "Presidents' Day" and consider it a day honoring all American presidents. However, neither the Uniform Holidays Act nor any subsequent law changed the name of the holiday from Washington's Birthday to Presidents' Day.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have not added oils to the best press yet. I am going to get some today while we are out.

Dianne, please be careful out cutting wood.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got in from Barrie, feel I’ve been gone all day but it’s just noon hour.

So glad Dianne you aren’t in the Bush..travelled back concessions on my way to Barrie vs highway and thought of you, so many downed trees.

Got the table top, stopped 8nto post office and the pantograph I ordered were in, don’t think I’ll play with them today, keep them for next week.

Hungry for a western, trying to decide if I want to make one or order one from the restaurant..what to do, what to do

Jeff just posted

“Proud of my son Caleb Pauzé for doing his first professional audition and getting cast in stage play "journey's end". Well done Jack”

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, what is a western?

Congrats to Caleb.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Beautiful day here in Las Vegas. High of 68. But a big storm, wind, is heading our way tomorrow. Up to 70mph out of the North which will drive our temps down. May hit 32 degrees for the first time this year. Rose bushes and trees are budded out and may bulbs are pushing their heads out. I have refilled the hummers feeders with more concentrated sugar water to give them some extra energy to stay warm.

I did a lot of raking in the front garden yesterday and left my little piles everywhere. Friday is the day the new gardeners show up and they clean up all of my piles.

My brother is one year younger than myself, 74, and this year is the last year he is going to burn wood. He is having central Heating and Air Conditioning installed in their home. He said even with the grandchildren helping to get the firewood, it is just to hard.

Today is our 44th wedding anniversary. Vern's morning helper reminded him so he, with a big smile on his face, said Happy Anniversary. I just snapped some green beans and they are in the instant pot and pork roast bone in ends are already cooked by the instant pot. Betty, I use the ranch dressing on my pork in the instant pot but I only us a portion of the packet, depending on how large the portion of meat is I am cooking.

It is that time when I have to walk the dogs for their second walk. We have no helper on Saturday evenings, so Vern gets to stay up later.

Linda, my guess was a Western Omelet.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy anniversary.

Verona, ON

Oh Betty did you make a Western or order one ? I love a toasted Western.... eggs, onions, diced up ham/bacon. Mom would change hers up every now and then but those 3 ingredients were always in it. Sometimes I put bean sprouts in mine.

Happy Anniversary Sharon and Vern. Not many couples can stay together that long. I came from a family that stayed with their first DH?DW. My mother said we - my brother, sister and I brought shame onto her name. We all divorced our spouse during the same year.

Understand why your brother is converting from wood. It is a life style that is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of work involved. Although I must say having the lengths brought in makes it much easier. We had kept 163 acres and used to cut trees there. Finally I said to Warren this is crazy the property taxes are triple what we would pay for lengths brought in. Around here it is sort of like a work bee and several come to help and you go there in return.

I will have to go into the village in the morning to buy a tarp. The snow banks from the plow are frozen solid and I couldn't shovel my way into a shed where the tarps are kept.

Still haven't used my Insta Pot. I will try something this week knowing I will be able to freeze up some meals. I rooted around in the freezer today and found some frozen cheese filled tortelinni Was able to make up a nice meal of shredded chicken and aspargrus (I know its spelled wrong my Spell Check seems to have a mind of its own) the noodles and sauce.Of course I made enough for 4 for I will have another meal and the TH will have their kibble blessed with a treat.

Congratulations to Caleb. Daddy sounded proud as I am sure you are too Betty.

We haven't had Pat check in for awhile. I hope she and hers are all OK.

Hoping my tired body will let me fall asleep and my overactive mind will not click in first.

Sharon send your sleep angels my way.

Sleep angels are on their way. I hope they do not wake you up.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - love a western sandwich - so tasty. Haven't had one in quite awhile. Now I'm hungry for one. Guess I'll make one tomorrow morning. We have lots of eggs - get them from a farm close-ish to us, about 24 km.
Congrats to Caleb on getting the part in the play!

Sharon - ♫♪Happy Anniversary to you & Vern!♪♫

Dianne - weren't they going to rename the Aug long weekend holiday to Terry Fox Day in honour of his fight for cancer relief? I haven't heard anything about it for quite awhile.

I lost the thread and was only posting over on Betty's other thread. It's been rough couple of months. Ben was in &out of the hospital, on a PIC line for antibiotics at home for a while, then later, IV's at the hospital once a day. Frankly the hospital was easier, it was only once a day. The one we had a home was every 8 hours. I could never get enough sleep since the whole process took over an hour each time.

Ben's blood work and cultures came back good so no more IV, just oral antibiotics. I hope that will be strong enough and adequate to finish up the healing process.
Not really getting much done around here. but I guess working full time and the help Ben's I can't expect much more.

We got the master bathroom remodeled, a roll in shower, a wall hung sink so it's more wheelchair friendly. I really wanted new shower curtain & towels but frankly just didn't find anything that captured my fancy. Oh well.

My tulips are about 4 inches tall or more. I can hardly wait for the bulbs to be in bloom. I have more than 200 pink tulips and last year was the first year I put in daffodils and narcissus. Ben bought me more Star Gazer Lily bulbs for Valentine days. My Sweetie knows me, rather have PLANTS or bulbs than cut flowers!

My Sis & I are still working on doll clothes. I kind of home this is the last year. She made some beautiful satin hero capes. We have little match box car kits to make up. There is a fabric "track" and pockets for the cars. They roll up and tie shut. We thought me might make puppets out of stuffed animals but I'm started to think, just donate the stuffed animals! Maybe in a few months I won't feel so bah-humbug.

Gab when I get home

Lyndonville, NY

Your over here and didn't tell me. (pout).

Verona, ON

Pat I am so glad you posted. Long days for you trying to keep up with work and Ben's care. Woo hoo on getting the bathroom redone. When I had my knee replacements I had to walk around the outside of the house to get to the shower downstairs.Good thing it was May not January. The stairs to downstairs were just too steep for me the first couple of weeks I was home.

Have been into the village. The PO said I had a parcel. Disappointed it was not the honey I ordered. The lane is VERY dangerous. The luge run on long cedar run hill is the worst I have ever seen it Without 4 wheel drive I don't think you could make it up that hill.. It's weird as parts of the lane are right down to the gravel.

Sharon your sleep angels found me again last night. I was sleeping so soundly (and that doesn't happen often) I did not hear Duke open the door to their enclosure. No wonder it was cold in the house.

Mammo tomorrow. I have neglected to get it done since Warren died.

Stay safe, well and warm
Dianne

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I am years behind in my mammo & I have LOTS of breast cancer in the family. NO excuse is good enough. I promised Ben I would call and take the first Monday appt they have available.

Poor Ben has had to do sponge baths only for months now and even NOW. With the infection issues with his leg, he can't get it wet.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just Suzanne and I, just got back..posted all week about coming over and you didn’t mention anything so thought maybe you were busy..

Just got in, all though heavy rain fall for my area predicted we had just few showers here and there, can you imagine suppose to reach 50 tmr??

Big sigh, went to 3 Joanns and couldn’t find the fabric I shorted myself on two weeks ago, drats drats and more drats..anything that I could have bought to start fresh again didn’t have enough yardage, wasted trip

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

That must be frustrating, Betty. It seems like the fabric must have a design name or number. If you brought a piece to Joanns, is there a way they could look it up? If they were selling it as recently as 2 weeks ago, maybe they can order more, or try to track it down at another store for you.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Debbie & Pat - glad you found us!
Betty - sorry you had a "wasted trip" but is a trip to Joann's every really wasted? You got to touch fabric! I think touching fabric is very soothing :-) And what GREAT weather!
Pat - I'm years behind, too....
Dianne - sorry it wasn't the honey you were waiting for. The door to the enclosure won't auto-close?

Verona, ON

Susan Duke is the auto-open of the door. I have to teach him how to close that door. There isn't a door in the house he can't open.

Waiting for the heavy rain to fall. Hope it will be like Betty and it misses us. Might be foggy in the am.

The TH and Sassy are fed... now it is time for me.
D

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

LOL... I have heard of them but not seen a picture of the product in place. I LOVE THEM!!! they look like bright nail polish on the cat, HOW CUTE!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all, stopped raining for now, mild temps, lots of water around the house, sure hoping the heavy rains don’t start.

Girls came this morning, busy morning..unusual forbthem to stay till 2pm, makes for a short day.

Bernie, dB had an accident yesterday with his nascar r.v., sad to say it’s a write off, luckily nobody hurt, well maybe, guy in the car said he was having chest issues although the air bag didn’t open..not sure what injuries.

Nothing much happening here, glad you posted Pat, lots going on in your world.

Karen you ok

Dianne are you getting rain I was suppose to be getting?

Verona, ON

Yes it is still raining Betty. Started about 2 am It is very foggy too. I can't see anything across the lake.

Even with the fire and the infloor heating the house it is a damp cold.

Cancelled my mammo this morning. The lane is glare ice. My cleaning lady walked part way in it is so icy.

TH are not happy. They hate the rain.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Light mist here Dianne, but advisory still on
Glad you decided to stay in, weather warning/fog still on tonight
Snowmobiles are not happy

Should stop, watching cnn and go get fries and gravy, have a craving

Ben is BACK in the hospital. The cellulitis in the leg is making a strong comeback. The bedding was soaked. He will be in minimum of overnight, but I would expect longer.
Our regular care giver has had to step away to take care of serious health issues with her husband, our 2nd onetook on new client with more hours and we can't match up hours. Interviewed new one but she can't start until she has closure with current one that is not working out.
Not the day I had planned. Seems like all I have to do is take out the fabric to finish up the Round Robin block & we're off & running to the hospital again.

Verona, ON

(((Pat)))

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sending prayers Pat.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

*Gentle Hugs* Pat Sorry to hear Ben's back in the hospital with leg problems
How many caregivers are you interviewing?
Dianne - glad you're not going out! You really don't need to fall (as if anyone ever does!).
I worry about you ladies and falls. A fall could change your life in an instant.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, local schools were cancelled based on report of freezing rain, so far it’s dull but no rain.

Hope same in your neck of the woods Dianne.

Was up 3/4 the night listening if the water pump came on, it’s pumping every 30 seconds, worries me, don’t want a flood. Greg will come after work and bring me my pond pump and I’ll attach hosemso if pump can’t keep up with this thaw I have a backup. Joys of living at bottom of hill..decided although extremely costly I will get someone to come in and go around the house with weepers and runners..enough of this worry..some days I think partment would be ideal.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

OK here Betty, puter problems.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was starting to fret Karen.

Sorry Pat that Ben is again unwell and hospitalized, know it’s the pitz for both of you but perhaps they should keep him in until the infection has been cleared completely.

Not great about the one possibility re caregiver as it could take months for her to be cleared from her existing client. In order to be released would the hospital not have to make sure Ben has homecare?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

The hospital will not concern themselves with "home care" because he is married and I am in the picture. I am trying to compile a timeline of when this started, what medications he has had and all the hospitalizations. I may need to take off work on Friday to wait IN the hospital until the infectious disease specialist shows up and review this mess with him. I just don't think they understand the length of the run of these complications!
Betty I can't imagine the stress of worrying about if the pump is handling the water problems! Our neighbor flooded our garage twice when we lived downhill from them and they didn't shut off their irrigation water! We finally took out the garage man door, poured new cement & closed off that entry. At least we were then able to NOT flood the garage and hopefully catch the issue before it got serious with the house.
You have a LOT of outdoor maintenance so I understand the desire to lighten the load but I have a real hard time imagining an apartment in your near future!!! You would go crazy!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone, overcast, high of 26, no snow or rain today so that is good.

Pat, think it’s a must you speak with the specialist, seems that they send him home and/or stop treatment before the infection has been cleared..I’m not sure, oerhaos Dianne would know better, from what I recall they have a hospital division that looks after arranging and monotoring home care..know when they had nurse come when I had intervenes after one of my vomiting spells it was all arranged by hospital..think that service is one of the best.

Hard to imagine me in an apartment as well Pat but but but...
Last night and this morning the pump is pumping every 2 minutes so that is an improvement..calling for rain and freezing rain tomorrow, as long as it is light rain I’ll be,ok.

Last 2 days I’ve been a couch potato, today I’m hoping to be productive..would like to get upstairs and downstairs washed, clean craft room and maybe take on sewing a little project I can finish in a day it brings on my energy to accomplish more.
