Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends old and new..

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone.

WLs predicted pouring rain today.. Not a cloud in the sky at the moment.

Betty abc has News for the Insomniacs starting at 2:30 am. The male anchor is a hoot.

Lots of done here yesterday. Mike took a huge trailer load of construction debris plus some junk of mine to the dump. Once the TH's fence is built and the stairs to the dock fixed there will be another dump run.

Diesel mourned so badly after Quill died I ended up getting Duke from the rescue. He would drag her toys and her quilt all around the house.

Susan how goes the unpacking ?

Dianne

What am I doing today - well, let's see - painting some outdoor wood stuff, like a stool, bench, table & chairs, plus our smoker (heat resistant paint, of course, black).
I'm also rather finished UN-packing (mostly) but need to sort paperwork (ugh!) as for recycling, shredding, or keeping and resorting. Busy busy busy. Bob wanted me to go with him to Olds, to keep him from overspending....... he is horrible at keeping to a budget, but I growled at him (lovingly) and told him Not to overspend because we just cannot afford to! We just got our pensions, and need to wait until the next ones come in at the End of the month! Love him dearly, but he does like to shop lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Not even 7 PM and I think I'm headed to bed.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hope you get a good night's sleep, Pat - I know you won't see this until you get up, but here's hoping & praying anyway :-)

Dealing with a pup with a broken tail. It's not too bad, but I'm trying to keep it in a splint to protect it, and to try to keep it fairly straight. This is the second morning in a row where it's come off. Will give the vet one more try, they'll straighten it a bit more before putting on the splint, than I would trust myself doing. But, I'm going to tape that thing up so much it will never come off! She's wearing a collar, so can't get at it, but keeps wagging her silly tail, and it ends up slipping off the end.

Verona, ON

Oh Deb I had to chuckle at the image you described but that poor pup. She just has to wag that tail !! Stormy the white GS I had still holds the record at our vet for the most cones broken while recouping. That was back in 2001 I bought a flex collar when Diesel had a growth removed this year. It worked out well.

No workers here today so far. Problem getting chain link fencing.for the TH's yard.Plus T and L is coming. They worked really hard yesterday digging the post holes in all that heat. It's all rock where they had to dig.

Better get my chubby little body into the village.
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
I was here earlier, but saw not new post, just came back and had to come look for this thread, and I see several have posted, but it did not show in my watched thread.
How did the puppy get a broken tail?
Betty, where are you? You last posted yesterday morning.
Dianne, I hope you get your new fence in soon, so the dogs can go out in the new fenced area.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

awwwwww poor silly pup - needs to keep that splint ON! If she's not careful, she'll end up with a crooked tail, poor thing!
Going to be hot here today - 88F predicted, may get hotter so I'd better get the garden watered
Yeah, where's our Betty?

Verona, ON

Guys are here and are going to cement the posts in today and let them set.Mike found some type of wire fencing that we all think will work. Across the front of the yard and into the car port I wanted wood to dress it up a little and there will be a gate at the carport

Oppressive hot here today. I have the AC on. Usually I have it on most of the night then turn it off during the day. If I keep the windows closed it stays pretty cool until about 4 pm. Just got my hydro bill for June expecting a huge increase because of the AC . It was just $15 more than usual. Nice surprise.

Went into the village and got some groceries and salt for the water softener. The stores in the village are busy, busy. Thank goodness the stores sure needed it.

Didn't give Duke his Elavil because I thought the guys wouldn't be here. I'm headed to do that now

Was wondering where you were LK. Bet your glad you have that pool right about now.

Stay cool and safe everyone.

Betty, what time are we meeting tomorrow?

I am on way out to wedding shortly. DS is in the wedding so hope I can get some
good pictures.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful looking pie. She has an awesome teacher.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sharon asked me to let you know that Vern is in the hospital.

Her message. ..

Vern is in the hospital. He had a fainting spell this morning while in the shower. Went to ER by ambulance but all appears normal. Running a bunch of tests but that is normal because we gave good insurance. Please let the crew know. Suppose to break a record today for high heat this date. My poor garden thinks I moved it to the Sahara desert .

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lovely pie! Congrats Caroline!

Sorry to hear Vern's in the hospital, but hooray for good insurance and getting the tests all done!

Where's Betty?

Better get outside and do some more painting. Bob's putting the old carriage lamps from front of our home and putting one at the main door & one at the back/garden door.
Hot today - 84F now

Verona, ON

Sending positive thoughts and prayers for Vern and Sharon. Holding you close to my heart.
Thanks LK for letting us know.

Betty is in Buffalo. She arrived safe.

Betty, if you see this....yes 8:30 at Cracker Barrel is good.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sweet Caroline's mama helped her with the pie.

Sharon, hoping all is well for Vern, Sometimes blood pressure can drop suddenly or even if the shower was a bit hot. The tests are a pain, I know but better to be thorough.

Hope our Betty is having a good time shopping.

Vern is home. Fainting was caused by low blood pressure, which is caused by Parkinson medicine and dehydration. They hydrated him for a day and wanted him to go to rehab. He said "No Way". When he fainted in the shower, I thought he had died. It was so scary. And so did my morning helper until she found his pulse. He had another fainting spell in the hospital on the way back from the bathroom. The nurses knew immediately what it was and checked his BP. It was 78/49. When he started coming back around, he kept yawning. Just like when in the shower.

His daughter offered to come down and help him and he told her we were just fine by ourselves.
Our weather is still hot, humidity going up because rain is coming and a little breezy. I just want some clouds so I can garden.

Dogs and cats have been cooped up in the house and are really confused. To hot for them outside unless I am right there to make sure they come right back in. And, of course, cats will not come when called so they are not allowed to go outside.

I have so many ripe tomatoes, I am going to make some pasta tomorrow with fresh tomatoes. I need to let my daughter know early because they always bring dinner and come over on Sunday. And they always have some kind of beef, which I buy.

Betty, hope you and Debbie had a good time at Cracker Barrel. I have never been to one but hear they have good food.

Diane, I am so sorry for your kitty's passing. I have cried so many tears over so many kitties, I have lost track. My current kitty Peanut, follows me like a dog. And she actually comes the majority of the time when she is called.

I will return tomorrow. Hugs to you all. Vern and I am heading to bed. Actually late for us.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

*Hugs* Sharon & Vern - SO scary, indeed. Glad to hear that it was an easy diagnosis & fix. He should tip his head back in that shower - that would hydrate him lol (kidding - have to make light of something when you're that scared!) Besides hydration, what can they do for low BP - change his meds?
Betty - glad you're having a good time! Enjoy!
In 2 weeks Susan will be here! And this time she's visiting when I'm healthy - Hooray! Community BBQ on the 24th, camping for 5 days on the 25th (back on the 31st), Christmas dinner with 3 other friends/neighbours on Aug 3rd, and Susan heads back to Georgia on Aug 5th. Whirlwind of activity lol
Adrianna (neighbour & one of our guests on the 3rd) will water our garden while we're gone. Pat & Glenn are also coming for dinner. Our home is getting better, and more organized/tidy. Hooray for everything good that's happening in our lives :-D

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning from rainy Victoria Harbour...

Sharon, bet scary didn't even describe how you felt when you found Vern, heart goes out to you. Here is hoping good health, or as best as good healthVerncan have canbe enjoyed and weather temps decrease so you can spend time in your gardens.
Wish I was closer, sure would love to defeats on those tomatoes.

Susan, orraying your health continues so you can enjoy the best vacation andcekebration of Christmas with susan, bet she is excited as well.
I
Had hoped to play in the yard seeing everything has been done for me so I can enjoy without working.

On thursday Darlene and John came sober for the morning, John wanted to finish the top of the baby quilt for his new to be born grandson, while he finished it Darlene took all the threads out of the casters of all the chairs, not a wonder they wouldn't move around lol, ended up with an entire bag of threads lol.

Before they left they wanted. Give me $200 for my making a baby bottle bag to match quilt and fir me quilting the quilt top..wouldn't take it, asked them why they thought it was okay to help me out so much and when I want to be kind they feel the need to pay me so we agreed, no $$$$.

On Friday, I quilted the top and while doing so heard someone call my name, it was John, said he was here to cut my grass, weed and do trimming..I told him no Nono but he said he was doing it regardless and that when I got back from Buffalo I could just sit and enjoy..Lordy what a difference..he was right, when I got home I felt I was in the garden of Eden..when rain stops a bit I will go out and cut a bouquet of flowers for the table.

So what is on my agenda today? Will put a quilt on the frame ready to quilt this week and will sew binding on baby quilt, hoping to unpack another box or 2

On my way home yesterday I stoooed at re-use it store, wanted to look for cupboards but I got there just after 4 and they closed at 4..drats, had hoped to find what I wanted and get it installedthis week..guess I will take a run one day this week.

As always, seeing Debbie is like a ray of sunshine in my life, trying to convince her to come visit for a week, hope she takes me up on it!!

He made a beautiful quilt. Did you get all the supplies you needed?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty it's so good the hear you sounding so much better.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

The quilt is beautiful. Ziggy is taking a nap as usual, lazy kitty! My sister bought me one of those white organizers you have on your table, I see you have a couple of different kinds. I am still working on trying to get my sewing area put back together but it's coming along. Having to have help to cut the desk legs shorter has kind of slowed me down. I'm going to ask my brother today. I know my sister's BIL would if I asked him also.

Betty it's good to know you have friends and family watching over you and doing some of the labor that needs to be done. I know it's hard to accept the help but remember all the love it represents and don't reject it, just ENJOY it!

I had a cat that was sooooooo good about coming when I called. When my kids were younger they would encourage her to follow them up our LONG drive way and then yell to me that the cat was near the road. They loved to see her run across the pasture, jumping big weeds and ducking under the fence to run to me.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Boy, staying on DG can be difficult - our bank site was down, and I asked DG to hold off on cancelling my subscription - nope, didn't even answer my pm!
Anyway - long story short, my bank site's back up & I'm paid for another year.

Tonight we had rain, thunder, lightning, hail (golf ball size), and a tornado watch. Haven't looked at our garden to see how it fared. That's something for daylight.

John did a wonderful job on that baby quilt top!!

Yes, Susan's excited to come visit - looking forward to two week's worth of vacation, too!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Calling for thunderstorms in my neck of the woods.

Must say I played laze last few days so today I'd best find some energy.

Susan I too am looking forward to my vacation, thing we both deserve a good one.

Need to accomplish something..

Wonder how Barb is doing, starting to fret.

Deb, when I picked Sharon up Friday she commented that someone put a pink plastic ribbon around mailbox, she is rural and no close neighbors..while travelling up her concession no other mailbox had a ribbon. Friday night/early Saturday morning she got a text from her daughter that someone had tried to break in and she called police..waited on the line 8 minutes after telling her to hold a minute, mthat doesn't seem right. Anyway police said the did see signs of footprints down near the pool and markings on the garage doors..long story short police said there is a ring marking in different ways where there are dogs, they are stealing them for dog ring fighting..wow something to be aware of..can see new system being added to her property. How is the tail healing going?

Judy if you are lurking, days must be getting shorter before the baby arrives.

Well best I get up off this couch

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Scary that they are marking houses with dogs to steal! Tail is healing, I think. At least the splint is staying on, it took 3 tries, but this one has been on since Friday morning. We're supposed to go back for x-ray and check next week, but we do have an appointment for flu vaccines this Weds, so maybe he'll check it then, too.

Verona, ON

T and L here this afternoon too or so the WLs say. It must be coming though as Duke has put himself in his crate.

We had that problem with people stealing dogs for a dog fighting ring. This was way back in maybe 1998 or so. I went to the LCBO (liquor) in the village about 20 mi from here. I had Sammies then and both were in the cab of the truck. I looked out the window and saw this guy trying to get at the dogs. I ran out and yelled at him and he took off. Apparently there is another ring right now operating in the area.

Deb glad you were able to get the splint affixed. Poor baby !! Do you have to worry about Lyme in your area?

Debbie how are you feeling ?

Sharon very happy to read Vern is home. You make sure you take good care of yourself too.

Ok need to get something done. Not sure what yet as there is so much to do.
Dianne and her TH

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hard to believe Dianne that sips his things exist..wonder what kind of people attend these type of fights...sham shame on them! You must have been frightened as well as angry. Yes, waiting for the rain to start.

Imagine had Sharon's inuk, highest marks for any American eskimo having been taken and used for such fight....takes a lot of nerve to try and rob a place when 2 vehicles are parked at the door.

Went to put 9"border on Xmas quilt after setting holy design and I'm 4 leaves short..sure hope I can find some of same fabric..think I may have purchased it in midland.

I have the photo fabric ready to do the label for John's quilt and it won't accept printing, guess printer needs to be set up again after being disconnected.oerhaos I will rip in to staples and get it done

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I'm with you, can't imagine how disgusting dog fighting is. EVIL people. I don't understand cruelty.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evil is right Pat, says something about them and the participants.

Well I kept busy all morning but only see a bigger mess, ended up putting the "this is my canada' quilt on the frame so tomorrow I'll empty a couple more boxes and quilt a bit..for today I've just layer my head back on the pillow on the couch and imagine that is where I'll stay for the rest of the day

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I have been going Non stop since I left you! Each morning up too early....and I don't see an end of it until Maybe Thursday or Friday if I am lucky.

We have rain here yet again and the temp has dropped rather fast.

I must comment to everyone on Betty. She looks MUCH better than I expected...even a slight tan going (was she REALLY in hospital or R&R in the Tropics) BUT she has lost weight...shows in her face. Still my bubbly girl though!

Today I took Sammy to get a grooming. Summer cut & bath. He is so tired he hasn't moved since coming home. He is prancing around like a show dog!!

Tomorrow up and moving early for eye appointment. And then Wednesday roofers coming back for clean up upstairs.

Here are pics of my son from the wedding. They took their Tuxes off and looked like AMish boys! But all so nice and had a good time. These kids in this group have all been best friends since age 3 or 4. All but the bride are now 24 or so. She is just 21.

Thanks Debbie, if I looked good then it means on the road to recovery but looking better than I feel. Just that trip to Buffalo has tired meout, will be glad when I can put a full day's..can see Suzanne and Rita doing most of the driving at month's end.

Always fun visiting with your, sure wish you could come visit, likely wouldn't vibe fun watching me ahead to bed at 6:30 lol. To bad the Elvis festival starts same day I leave on holidaysotherwise we could go

Hey grab a friend and come spend the weekend here's and go and enjoy, lots of free venues and hundreds of elvis's..mom will be here but your bedroom is here (not yellow) but comfy and you could use this as home base.

Love the photo's, nice to have friendships that have lasted through time.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - so glad to hear you're looking better (thanks for letting us know, Debbie!! Much appreciated!) You need to eat more, but not to the point where you're throwing up again. Slow & easy & gentle is the way to go......
Of course you tire out easily - that's to be expected. It'll all come in due course.

We went to Innisfail today & I picked up 3 houseplants - one cane begonia, 2 spider plants & a diefenbachia. All little of course, because they're new rooted plants.
Hope my peony that broke off in last night's storm will root again.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Saddest thing about the stolen dogs....They are used as bait dogs for the fighting dogs to practice on....just meant to be killed by the fighters. Sad for the fighters too it's not what they want to do either but are goaded into it and forced to fight.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

on no...... those poor dogs, and the owners who no longer have their furries!
This is a sad thing indeed!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,
Up and at it, not sure why??

Rain starting this afternoon, Lordy what a wet summer.

I did about 1/3 of the quilt yesterday, hoping to get it off the frame today and I can put the binding on and have something to hand sew tomorrow.

Not too exciting, here, just everyday stuff..

Wonder what happened to all the gals?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sorry I have so silent lately. Norm lost his job two weeks ago and I just haven't been too chatty. Because of all his surgeries our funds are at an all time low and I just have been in that dark place. I read every day and I'm sure things will get better soon. We have an incredible family who has made sure that we are taken care of and will do whatever is needed. I would certainly appreciate all your prayers that he finds a new job soon. It is hard as he is 63 and not many places want someone at that age. Old story of "too old" for someone to hire and "too young" for social security....It is what it is and we are dealing with it......Thanks for bearing with me and I'll try to do better about posting.......

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I am so sorry, Barb. Prayers being said that Norm finds a job that is perfect for him, quickly.
