When I had Bypass, we all had our walkers and escorts plus all the attached wires & tubes. We were encouraged to walk several times a day as far as we could. Hard part was judging when we were half tired so we had enough oomph to get back to our rooms. After a few days, I felt better sitting in a chair than in bed. After I was home, i still had a walker for about a week. Amelia thought she was helping and took the walker to the bathroom for me. Had to explain I had to be the one to take it there. Visiting nurse came several times a week until after the staples were removed. I then felt I didn't need her any more.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How long in the hospital Karen?? Know not everyone is the same, just wondering?
How cute,Amelia is a sweetie, how is Lorelei??

The middle miss that took me out for Saturday breakfast is called Amelia..takes her a bit to warm up to people..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

After surgery, I think it was a week & a half. A friend who had quintuple bypass the same day as I, was released several days before I. I guess it depends on a lot of factors. Maybe my 4 heart attacks and all the bleeding made a difference for me. I'm sure different Dr.s have different yardsticks too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure it does Karen, you weren't in the best of health..norm is quite fit and thankfully warnings but no heart attacks.

Big yawn..Greg is dropping in for a bit he said, wants to make an adjustment to the stitch regulator as I think the primary wheel isn't turning..hooe he is not late as I'm already thinking bed lol

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It does indeed Betty. I spent the majority of my stay totally unaware of anything. Good thing hubby was there to guard me. One time a nurse came in to draw blood. while they had me hooked up and were refilling me. Hubby stopped her, she looked and said "Oops my bad" and went away.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg Karen..pays to have someone stay with you for the first day or 2. Saw so much this past year in my stays, can't blame the nurses, they are so overworked and an odd one needs to change career lol

Came to bed without supper , wasn't hungry, mtempted to get up and have cereal..its pancake day, wish I'd known that before, have maple syrup from a cousin just waiting for me to make pancakes.

Verona, ON

Karen great info. Yes everyone is different but still it is good to know what is ahead of you.

Somehow I have changed the size of the print. I like it but have no idea how I did it.

Still lots of ice and areas of snow on the east side of the house. At least the ice is off the lane so we can venture farther. The swamps are still frozen so the TH have a blast racing and skidding across them.

Betty the dogs' mess is more than usual because with all the glare ice I couldn't get them out and about like I usually do.

Time to tend to the cats downstairs although Sassy is up here chirping away. Streak won't come upstairs even when I leave the gate open. Dogs don't bother with them much usually only when Sassy teases them.

Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne and her TH

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought the cats might be fighting for bed space Dianne.did you get any results from your last MRI?

I'm antsy tonight, legs/hip throbbing, likely change in the weather so if the sleep Angels drop in on you please send them my way.

LK - tried, for 2 years, to get Susan on DG - she's just so shy, and a whole bunch of people at once would throw her for a loop.
Mudders are still on another job, so Bob's done the walls, and still has to do the corners & the ceiling. Bob will do the corners, but not the ceiling. The guy who installed the drywall said that if the cost of the mudding by his co-workers is too high, he'd come do it himself. Bob IS trying to do as much as he can.
We had a quiet day today, for his birthday. My physio in the afternoon went well - went on a stationary bike and Stretched my leg - felt a bit strange, and tender, but GOOD!
We go to Calgary on Thurs for my followup, then on Friday to pick up Susan. Wish it could have both been on Friday but my knee Dr isn't in the office then. A former co-worker of Bob's is coming to Calgary & we're going to see him. Also, we're going to pick up stuff from Margaret's place. She's still in Rehab & a friend in common is arranging for us to meet & help clear out Margaret's place of some of her stuff. I'm interested in knowing where Margaret will move to after she's out of Rehab.... she's been in the hospital since Dec 2nd, and I'm sure wants to be in her own place. She says the City will have to figure it out cuz she's on support from the City for her current rent in the Mobile Home Park, and when they close, she won't have anywhere to live without their continued support.

Morning all..

It's 45f, need to be in midland at 8:45 for mammogram, put garbage to the curb and call the girls to say just come in and am hoping to be home by 9:30..nice not having to worry about travelling in a blizzard.

Every step Susan you get closer and closer to finishing the room...bet Bob has done a great job, can't blame him a bout doing the ceiling..you've a busy week ahead so don't overdo.

Must get a move on,garbage needs to be put curb side

Barb, tell Norm I'm stopping in a Tim Hortons and will pick him up an apple fritter

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ooooh reminds me there was the best recipe on FB for Apple fritter loaf. A bit better for you as it's baked but boy is it yummy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I ate Barb and Nirm's apple fritter, am sure they appreciate it as no calories for them.

Girls just led all happy with their morning,so love their excitement when they see their project coming together.

I just put chicken and dumplings in the micro, trying to have bigger meals earlier in the day...then decide if I want to nap or push myself a little more...

You all must be busy, maybe playing in the sunshine?
Just snuggled into bed, worked hard and I'm tired..

Had3 calls from my bank today, recording, saying press 1
Well there is so much fraud going on decided not to press the 1 but did call them at supper..charges unlike the norm so their computer put an alert on it..yep several charges made at 11:45, not Charges I made so they cancelled the card and will send a new one..great they have a system in place

Night night

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I was at the Crafting group today, at the arena across the street. Started a new pair of socks.
Good for you, not pressing "1". You really never know who's calling.
Betty - your mom's handiwork is very nice. Know where you get it from, eh?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW, sorry to hear your card info was stolen and used. I hope the bank will return the money.

Glad to hear you got out today Susan.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Linda Kay - not only got out, but walked home from the Arena - about 4 blocks. I wanted to walk there, but Bob insisted on driving me. Coming home, Una insisted on walking two & a half of those blocks with me. I didn't need her to, but it was awfully sweet of her to offer, and do so. She thought I was going to walk uphill, but I went from the parking lot, down the street, across the highway, and down it to the entrance of our Park. I walked the rest of the way home, through the Park 1 1/2 blocks. It was cool out, but the sun was shining, and SO nice to get out in the fresh air.
Bob & my friends are so thoughtful.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all..sunshine day, I've already out in a day..took what Christmas totes were on back deck to shed, swept it, picked up some branches then the wind came up, won't take long to dry everything up..now comfy on couch hand sewing and eyes getting heavier..might mean a nap

Just checked weather for tomorrow..Lordy how can we be getting a blizzard later tonight into tomorrow.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you are busy! Please be careful lifting those totes.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Still sewing on QOVs. A bit of a challenge . I was sent a bunch of blocks made by others to put into tops. Hard to get my head wrapped around as I usually plan from the start what I'm doing. There is no rhyme or reason to these, not enough of any one. Hard to come up with something I like and can't stand to make an ugly quilt especially for veteran.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Karen, as long as I've come here, you've taken on challenges of all kinds. I have confidence in you - you'll do just fine, and come up with something to unify the quilt. Whatever it ends up as, the veteran will love the thought and love put into it.
Bless you for working on it

Verona, ON

Congratulations Susan ! Well done!! You are really helping your recovery by being so determined.'

Very, very windy here. There is 1 tree on the lake side of the house that I have my eye on. I've been concerned about it before so think I will hire someone to cut it down. It is in too precarious a position for an amateur to tackle. The temp is falling rapidly.

Went into Ktown this morning got my xrays taken, hair cut and several small errands taken care of ..... by the time I got home the wind was so bad poor little Duke wouldn't come out of his crate. Sounds like a freight train passing through the house. He finally did come out but is velcroed to my leg. When we all went outside he stayed right beside me. The noise wasn't so bad outside.

Oh Karen I so understand your dilemma. When I had the SG business people would want me to complete their project. did it once and swore I would never do it again. Like you it goes against my grain to complete something I am not happy and satisfied with.

Noah ever arrive Betty/

Power is flipping off and on so am going to get ready for a night without hydro.
stay safe and warm everyone.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending prayers for all in need this afternoon. And ~~~waving hello too.
Norm will be in the hospital 5-7 days Betty. Then 6-8 weeks at home before he can think about going back to work. He is doing pretty good with his nervousness. We try to talk all the time when something catchers his attention and he wants to understand better. We both have complete confidence in the hospital and doctors and staff. They do miracles there. That is where my son had his 6 bypasses done a couple of years ago.
Has anyone heard of TMJ/TMD a problem on the jaw? I have it. Don't know what causes it but I was chewing food and all of a sudden I had a sharp pain where the jaw connects with the skull. Swollen a bit and painful at times. Makes it hard to eat as I don't want to open my mouth very far. Keeping my mouth shut will make life easy for Norm!!! LOL This too shall pass.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

My girlfriend Jean has TMJ, been to so many doctors, orthodontist moriceedures, Lordy it must be 20 years now..haven't spoken with her or Tom in a bit so not sure how she is doing now..glad norm isn't as jittery and is relaxing

Dianne this morning I was picking up tree limbs and putting them into the fire pit, now the ground is covered with snow.

Off to take edge off the haedache

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Barb, are you maybe clenching your jaw while sleeping? My sister had this and that was the cause. If they tell you to sleep with a mouth piece, go to a sporting goods store. same as football players use and much cheaper than at medical source.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

So far I haven't had to anything but take some ibuprophen. If it swells up more than it is now, I will need to see the doctor to see what else they want me to do. I don't have any teeth on the top LK so it isn't a grinding teeth thing. They seem to think it was stress induced and that I opened my mouth too wide while eating. So I am supposed to have no stress for a while. Maybe I should tell Norm no operation RIGHT. Sometimes the doctors just don't think.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well if they put you on a liquid diet, just remember...a chocolate malt is liquid. LOLOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Was it just yesterday morning I wo as out picking branches to get a head start on spring clean up? Today it's a winter wonderland..trying to get my head around what want to get done today.

Let's hope Barb with the small changes you are doing to control the TMJ that it gets no worse.

Noah came last night, off to wor, says he doesn't eat breakfast, gave home the grandma so each on how it's the most important meal of the day lol

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Love the idea of a chocolate malt Karen. I haven't had one of those in years and I love them.....Maybe I will just say I NEED one!!!! Might even throw in some ice cream and make it a frappe!!!!

I'm a basket case waiting for a place to happen this week. Tuesday I twisted the spot between my index and middle finger trying to close the cover to the soap dispenser in the dishwasher, I couldn't get it to close and tried harder and felt the muscle in my hand pop. Got a nice goose egg there now and can't put any weight on it or try to squeeze anything with that hand. Can't hold a needle to work on Norm's cat or do any knitting. So it will be reading for a couple of days for me. I'm grateful that I'm doing all these things now so that I can stay healthy after Norm's surgery!!!! I should be all healed up by then!!! The jaw is holding its own and letting me eat soft foods without pain. I shall survive. I'm told it will go away when it is ready. I'm thinking after all the stress clams down will be a big help.
It has taken me almost a half hour to type this so I'm closing for now. Have a great day everyone......

Victoria Harbour, ON

You sure are having a time of it Barb...nothing worse than not being able to use your hand, hope you've a good book to read..are you getting this bad weather?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Can nothing be done for your hand Barb? I've had days when all I could do is read, makes me a bit crazy as reading puts me to sleep.
Still plugging away at the quilts, I have all my tops made, now I'm putting together blocks that were sent to me. It's harder as they don't have any rhyme or reason to them. All the same pattern but such a jumble of fabrics & colors. I'll finish one today and see what I can do next. I'm anxious to get them done and sent off. Mine will be long armed and returned. Just will need binding & done. Struck a gold mine up here. My VFW quilting group has several ladies who don't quilt but love to do hand work. They will do all the binding we send them. Love it, I can't do the hand work anymore so it's wonderful for me.
I have a baby quilt for a niece's son. A t-shirt quilt for a granddaughter. A quilted tree skirt for a niece getting married in the fall. Ready to get at them for a change of pace. I do love my QOVs but will now have a nice stash set by ready for presentations.

Verona, ON

Oh Barb I know the pain of TMJ all too well. Mine was caused by a car accident. I will say this quietly as I don't want to prod the devil but i haven't had a bout for a few years. The docs thought it would flare up when I had radiation but it didn't. One of my nephews has it too - his too from an accident. Mine was worsened because I did grind my teeth when I had teeth.

The wind just stopped about 8 pm for a couple of hours then started up again but stopped again around 3 am. Now it is whipping around the house again. Lucked out with the power not like Debbie. Her area was really hit.Snow here too but not like Betty's.

Betty did you see a tractor trailer flipped over on its side on the Burlington Skyway during the height of the wind in that area ? I am petrified of that bridge. Do you remember when it used to have tolls?

Hope your doc appointment goes well Susan.

How are your friends doing Judy? What about the PET scan results ?

Need to get moving. I am really dragging this morning. Maybe Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk will help me get going.

Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne and her TH

Victoria Harbour, ON

Could you possibly put all the squares to one side then put one of those precious panel to the right of them??
Your list is getting longer Karen..you don't spend a whole lot of time outside do you? Maybe your machine on deck enjoying sunshine could be arranged.. Lucky you having someone do the hand sewing when you've difficulties doing it.

Just took turkey and dressing out of freezer so it will thaw and Noah and I can have a half decent meal tonight

Woke without headache but starting to act up again, maybe I should follow ziggy's lead

Just popping in to say Good Morning, and hope your day goes well

Off to the big city for my followup on my knee - it's been snowing a lot, so Bob's not happy with the 1 hr drive each way. Will stop in a see friends while there - Anne & John, Marilyn, George, etc.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Safe travels, storm still active in my neighborhood..spoke to mom, Linda and Sharon, no snow for them..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We've had very little outside weather. I could go stand in the sunshine on the deck when everyone was here for ice fishing. It was nice enough that they cleaned what fish they caught out on the deck. That's when it decided to warm up, got into the 60's.. I walked to the mailbox with the dogs yesterday, thought I was going to blow away. Much calmer today but not warm at all. It's probably 250-300 feet to the mailbox, just the right distance to encourage the dogs to do their business.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

We had flurries for a while this morning but nothing stuck to the ground.
Brandon Kirby dropped by with a DD coffee for me. They are having a wonderful time this week. They had gone to the ocean yesterday and Kirby got to see tide pools. She was so excited watching the crabs and shrimp. Did I tell you all the Stacy and SIL Scott have been taking ballroom dancing lessons. Well, Brandon and Kirby went with them last night and they had a ball!!!! S&S started this last fall as something that would be just for them to do together. They have been loving it.
B&K are coming to dinner tomorrow night. And then they head back to Ohio on Saturday. I will miss them both so much.
Jaw is still the same but the swelling on the hand is going down. I'm thinking another day of being good to it should be enough....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Say it isn't so, another day of squalls?? Right now sun is shinning..was going to go to Barrie but I did learn a lesson past few times I went, not fun in a snow storm, will call LINDA later and get a weather report for her region.

Barb, glad the hand is healing, your resting it helped for sure.
Glad you are having so much fun with family..I think it is grand doing ballroom dancing, kudos to them

Not exciting planned for today or the weekend, doesn't mean something won't come up

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hang in there Betty, spring is coming for you soon.

Lyndonville, NY

I am BACK! Oh my gosh! What an ordeal. I left here Wednesday morning to
get my allergy shots in Rochester. Everything was fine, a little windy....nothing bad.
AND it was in the 50s!

I drive home and the car is ALL over the road from the wind. I was dodging branches and lord knows what flying across the roads. I get into town and see large branches down along the road. In front of my house is a dangling wire. OHHHH CRAP!

Yep, get inside and power is out. Something on top of the transformers ...a ceramic something that holds all of the functions together....came undone.

Got Sam out to do his business. No phone service, no wifi.....took me 5 times texting DH for it to go through. Our celltower in town was down too! This old house was shaking so bad!

Rochester airport had winds to 84 mph I think it said at top.

DH on his drive home got hit by a couch cushion someone had on side of road. We had trees down all over town by time he got home. BUT last night about 10:00 p.m.....the light came back on!!! Just in time as today it is in the 20s!

We need half the roof replaced, took most of the shingles off the south side. Neighbors fence blew down must missing my car. My wishing well flew up and over and the top is smashed along with the rails holding roof on it. The fence on my Moms memory garden is down also. All in all....little things. BUT many have it MUCH worse.

Will try and catch up. Stay warm and safe!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Barb, I have TMJ also! Try either a warm pack or ice pack.....and in the Dental aisle at Walmart....they have mouth guards you can buy. Put it in hot water to soften then stick it in your mouth to form. EXACT same I paid $300 for at Dentist! BUT....I get it from grinding teeth at night during stressful times. A hot or cold pack....you decided what feels best...me it is warmth...on the jaw...helps it relax.
