Best/Worse/What did I Learn today?visit with friends old/new..join in?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm asking for prayers for my cousin's 29 year old daughter, Lauren. My cousin found her unconscious in bed last week. She's hospitalized in a coma, they've done scans, tests, MRI and according to her "they still don't know what caused it but she does have some symmetrical brain strokes on both sides of her brain, some liver damage, there's a bit of heart damage but they said her heart is OK. She's on a ventilator to help with her breathing. Her eyes are opening but she's not responding to commands." She's the same age as my daughter, and the girls grew up together. I'm just in shock!

Deb

Thoughts and prayers are with you all this morning Debbie..

Storming here, just got dressed but nowhere I will go, I remember ride home from town Friday night so inside I shall stay.

Melanie spent the day here yesterday, she made her beach towel chair covers and I made an outfit for the doll..today I think I'll head downstairs and try and finish the Canada flag piece I'm working on, runny nose and all. Lol

Was reading local newspaper this morning and remember doing some and still doing some of these..how about you, can you relate

All leftovers saved, reheated and eaten regardless who doesn't like leftovers

Odds and ends of meat or veggies end up in a soup

Kids going through your trash to see what ons they can make?

Plant clippings shared rather than buying a new plant

Women cut their own hair and that of their husband and children

Deb - praying for your 2nd cousin & her mom, your cousin. How very scary for the whole family. Your daughter must be in shock, too!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I remember a lot of those my Mom did. Anything to save a penny or two.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I still do a few of them

You all having gatherings to watch football?

Verona, ON

Betty if I didn't watch/listen to the news I would have had no idea the Super Bowl was on.

Light snow all day. Not even enough to shovel.Going to be icy in the morning.

Enjoy the game for those of you that watch it. I know the Pats are playing because Boston is the channel I see the news on.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

About the same here Dianne, I'm cheering big time for the Falcons, having my own superbowl party. Lol

As I recall usually over in Buffalo when it is on, no traffic anywhere and great for shopping.

They are calling for possible freezing rain in the next few days, mature hope not..praying you don get it as what a mess it would create on your road.here is hoping.

Did you see I posted the interview re Sharon, Graemme and Inuk is thursday at 7am?? Hope you can watch

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How did she do in the show?

Just hubby and I watching the game. Hoping the falcons win. Eating chicken wings and veggie tray.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You have better food than I, I should be at your house eating..
No the show is thursday coming and Westminster show the next weekend I believe

So wish I had chocolates

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Not into TV or football here. It was #2 son's Bday. Had some of his friends over and LOTS of dessert. All the desserts farmed out and none left here now.

Yesterday i worked on the office and rearranged furniture. I'd like to take the bookcase out but not sure what I'll do with it. It's kind of in funky place now so it's easy to take out and get gone.it's backed up against the side of the 5 drawer filing cabinet.Makes it look like it's in the middle of the room, you have to be quite a ways into the room before you see there is something behind it

This is the best the office has ever looked. I would love to get this room painted before Ben gets home but that is unlikely. It desperately needs it. I need to finish patching walls etc.

We've had freezing rain again, hope it's clear tomorrow. I am driving to see Ben. Today was a miserable day for him. Disappointed he is not discharged and they are not making it clear about WHY not. No definite goals or standards so he knows what it takes.... I explained to him they are waiting for him to have home help. I have attempted to explain that he can NOT be home alone and why. Like he texted his credit card company for help the day of the fall, not any of us, didn't call for ambulance! Kevin came home early from work. Ben had been on the floor for over 2 hours by then.

Tired might just head to bed, it's only 6.30!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Bob & I aren't into football. Only way I knew there was a SuperBowl on, is because Susan's from Atlanta, and she got 1/2 day off work to go home & watch it. She lives outside of Atlanta.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I guess nobody is happy that the Pats won in a spectacular finish but me. That's okay. Football isn't what makes us friends....
Sending prayers for all in need. Found out the Celebration of LIfe for my brother is this Sat. It will be good to see my brother from NC who is coming up...And my other brother who is farther north in NH is coming down....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I know it will be a great visit Barb.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Barb, I'm thrilled that your team won! Why wouldn't I be? You're my friend

Victoria Harbour, ON

Right on Barb, not what makes us friends..

Will do your heart good to see your rot hers Barb, just too bad I t couldn't be a family reunion where you all were together..hoping the wa ther will cooperate, forget how far you have to travel.

I so enjoyed Lady Gaga and believe me I wasn't a fan of her before..best commercial to me was the beer oneAnhauser Busch, done with mega class!

Decided no diwnstairs to play till I gave upstairs a going over..did the stove, organized a few things, dusted and washed floors, think I've done enough??lol
Now I can play.

Was going to shovel but I will leave that till later when I get dressed to go to town, calling for freezing rain tomorrow so have a few things to pick up.

Canadian flag needs quilting, can't believe how Canadians are so patriotic his year with our 150 year Anniversary, all pulling together, celebrating our heritage and what it means to be Canadian..the girls that sew asked if I could pick up red/white fabric while in Buffalo so we could get together and make the Canada pillow, so that is on my list..must pick a date so we can all get together..each to bring a Canadian dish..

Had breakfast but my tummy saying 'I'm hungry', sure wish I had timmies donuts..maybe I can pick some up later for tomorrow, also need to buy chocolates as I've been craving sweets

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Is there EVER a bad time for chocolates Betty?? hehehe

I'm still plugging along on the shelf and headboard. LOST the darn cup hooks I bought this shelf and now have to go buy more. Grrrrrrrr... glad they are not expensive!

Victoria Harbour, ON

You will find them minutes after you buy another package..it's on my list as well, have a shelf on the wall near coffee maker/refrigerator in craft room, seems when I was hanging Christmas pieces I stole a few hooks, they hold coffee mugs so I have to replace to keep all organized.o

Pat, are you liking the project so far re color?

I called Timbrr mart this morning, still on a kick to get storage for under my ironing ahead, regardless how much soace I have I need more, they had a cabinet, reg $375'but would give it to me 1/2 price, still too much for what pat I want so thanked them and think I will go back to plan 1 and make the unit I saw that I liked

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Glad you're happy with the football results Barb. We never even had the game on here, just not fans. Only ever watched a game if I had a grand playing and sometimes to watch our DD playing in the band. My oldest DS has a party at his house and buys us a square in a pool every year. I suppose he would have called if we had won. We do watch hockey on occasion IF any of the grands are here and want to see it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was a great hockey fan when there were only what 8 teams? Now there are too many to get excited about.do cheer on The Toronto Maple Leafs though.

Still on the couch, think I can find what I want next door, they just opened about a month ago, should support them, last meal was Sooo delicious, besides need to shovel befor freezing rain comes

Victoria Harbour, ON

Went next door, you should see the bakery..can see me put on the pounds lol

Not worth cooking unless there is something I'm craving for

Bought cabbage roll dinner and 2 butter tarts $10.26. Can't beat it..they had about 10 meals to choose from..have to get there earlier as the chicken Alfredo was all sold out.

Treat for tonight, chocolate bar if the butter tarts don't take away my craving doer sugar

Looks delish, Betty. Wish we had a next door. We have what used to be a good pizza place about a mile away. Too bad their quality went down. I'd rather a place raised prices than cut quality. Wish our fav. Greek place was closer, never get tired of eating there. Hubby will go get me lemon rice soup when I have the punies. Most of the time they just send it to me and refuse to charge.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They are Greek Karen, so many dishes I've never heard of, guess I will try them. Lol..their Greek salad looked delicious but family size, will have to mention it.

Sure did hit the spot, the other half for lunch tomorrow and took a container of spaghetti sauce out, will do me for supper and Wednesday lunch lol

Did put 3 containers of stew I the freezer, must rotate them, keep forgetting to put a date on them, some I should throw out as I'm not sure how long they have been in the freezer.

Today is the first day I've felt myself the entire day, not sure if that is good or bad.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

We're looking at Ben to discharge next Monday if we can get all the ducks in row.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is awfully soon is it not, hasn't given you time to get your strength back to look after him..is there someone nearby who can make periodic visits during the day?

Will help your not having to drive to visit him though

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wonder why all of a sudden, last month or so many of the sites on USA side I get this

Also won't be able to get the Westminster show, won't televise in Canada, have to get one of you to,watch and tell me what is going on

What site are you trying to get?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

that is a disappointment for you Betty. Maybe someone can also record it for you.

I have a friend & sons coming this Thursday to haul the old King size mattress to the dump and I will plan on getting more of the other work done on Saturday. I will finish moving furniture this weekend with help. It will be fine. Likely NOT coming home if the in-home caregiver cannot be in place on Monday discharge. Even if it's 2 weeks away just knowing it IS happening will help Ben's outlook.

Functionally he should qualify for help, we have not finished jumping thru the financial hoops yet and it will be a stretch to have it all in place for Monday... but I'm working on it!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Pat - now I'm confused - I thought Ben was in a care home, not coming home?!?! Obviously I mis-read something.

Betty - I've been craving chocolate, too. Not a "chocolate covered" something, but real chocolate.......

Didn't get my staples removed today - we had a bunch of snowfall, and there wasn't a lot of plowing done in the rural communities, so Home Care couldn't get here to visit. They feel that they should be able to come tomorrow.
Friend said that 30 staples may not be removed in one go - might remove 1/2 then come back for other half. Any ideas? I'm thinking that if the incision is a bit swollen, then the staples couldn't be all removed. My leg isn't very swollen - mostly down, and should be removable. We shall see. Bob found a video online showing how he could remove them - not a chance. When we have someone that's trained coming to do it, I'm not going to have him do it.
In his favour, he's been giving me my tummy needles for 10 days, and there's no bruising from him doing it. Not as much pain, either - some of the "pros" weren't as gentle as he is. After one needle given by a nurse, in March, I hurt for 2 hours afterwards.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I meant to show the progression of our den (my SEWING area, too!!).
10x24' and one faces south, towards the door & window at the end, and the other end faces north, towards the interior door

All kinds of changes here too Betty. Channels we have gotten for years are suddenly not available and new channels added that we don't care about plus a $10 Month increase in the bill. If we want TV at all here and decent internet, we have no choice.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Betty, you should be able to watch the breed judging on your computer. This is from the Westminsterkennelclub.org website:

8:30am - 5pm Eastern Time
Breed judging, Junior Showmanship Preliminaries and Masters Obedience Championship (Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Breeds).
-Live Stream 10 rings for FREE on WKC website and FOX Sports GO. No TV provider login needed.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes Ben is in a Skilled Nursing Facility but he has improved to the point he will no longer qualify for that level of care. He could transfer to "nursing home" which is a lower level of care, that does not includes skilled therapies, like the physical therapy, cognitive and more.
He should qualify for "home caregiver" services. Someone (of our choice) would come during the day, cook him meal, help him get dressed etc. Wash linens, change sheets, take out garbage. It is a way for someone who needs help to remain in their home. We have applied and are waiting to hear if we qualify.
I'll explain more later.Got to get to work.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, they called for freezing rain early this morning but the mass must be moving slower than they thought likely arrive between 1-2pm then rain so will be a messy situation, just did the garbage by roadside and you can feel rain. Is a coming.

Susan, only ate 1/2 my chocolate bar and didn't eat a Buttertart...maybe just having sweets in the house was all I needed.
Bob sure is looking after you..my feeling about doing staples in different days is longer they stay in the healing of flesh starts growing over them and it would be more painful, best you bite the bullet however painful it is.

Barb, so many sites give me same message, was thinking that maybes the start of shutting access between USA and Canada, we are worried about that..know friends are changing vacations to Europe rather than stateside, big sigh
Rogers is trying to not have bundles anymore but allow customers to pick individual channels they watch, not sure f it will be cheaper but it would be better having channels you enjoy watching..I understand the Hallmark channel is no longer??

Susan, finished or not I'd be sitting in that room lol. Bib is doing a wonderful job, wish he lived closer..I'm trying to get my mind around a support system for under my ironing board, hoping to order wood today, now bob could give me suggestions on how to..not sure if I mentioned Jeff's stress release is woodworking, hand made, no electrical tools, doing a marvellous job

Deb, thank you so much, so hoping I could watch, seems Inuk made record for group but if he wins this time he will have broken Westminster record of most consecutive wins by any breed, would love to watch..marking the site you provided, so appreciated.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Never would have thought this is what his stress relieve from his job, from designing from executive at circa, computers to hand crafting furniture

He is now carving handles for it
