Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends old & new!

Oh Betty, laughing so so hard at that! Yes, where was it! Probably the other side of the air field!

Cold cold here. Spent the day cleaning and getting bathroom ready to paint. Didn't realize what a disaster it is. Has been....almost 14 years since was redone. So fresh paint and some touch ups, new accessories. Don't know where time has gone.

I know it is cold here.....DH yesterday turned the heat on. He NEVER turns the heat on, tells me to put a sweater on.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LOL I saw that Corn Maze pic too, Betty! Funny

I only did 2 ponchos, as I only had enough of the really heavy wool for 2. I'd used the other heavy wool beforehand, to do cowls.
I'm doing whatever I think will sell, and really doing a mix of projects.
Right now, I have some Bernat Illusions and am making a scarf from it. It's so VERY soft..... I love it!

Bob got an end gable done, for our roof - designed and built it, so he has a template for the next 12 he has to make. Then he figures to put some poly on, prior to the roof. It will give some protection from that point on, I believe.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

43 with a feel like 34 brrr but calling for a high of 52

Susan, half the work I'm sure is figuring out the pitch of the roof for 1st gable, once that is done the project will go quickly..are you hoping to have it shingled before winter sets in or will you leave it til spring?

Debbie, lots of work ahead of you, getting ready for the painting is half the work, just think how pretty it will look...did you get new flooring in the room when you replaced flooring a few months ago?

Break time, imagine it's 7am and I'm having my first break
Did housework, baking, lunch looked after and now I'm enjoying 10 minutes of sipping coffee before Linda gets here at 8:30am

Will head downstairs and tidy up a bit, wouldn't want paint all over quilting fabrics

By the time Jeff and the boys leave my craft room will look clean with all costumes go to their new homes..missy will be upset, one of the little guys have become her best friend. Lol

Off to make sure all is in order downstairs

That last photo is calling me Betty!!! Wish I were there this morning. Busy day here moving furniture around. My oxygen concentrator has been sitting under the thermostat and since it gives off some heat, the rest of the rooms are chilly as the furnace doesn't come on until the temp goes down. Both of us sat there last night being chilly (I even got out a blanket) while we watched TV and couldn't figure out why until Norm realized what the problem was. Shouldn't take too long to change things around. Our biggest problem in this apartment is the lack of electric outlets. There are only two in the living room and two in my room. Between the TV, concentrator, lamps and an electric concentrator, they fill up quickly. I have to use a surge protector with the TV to cover the modem, router and DVD player. The landlord says he will have the electrician in but no idea when.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, certainly can understand the thermostat issue, sun shines in the front room and hits thermostat and rest of the rooms are cold, more so basement..will get Greg to move it as well..lack of plugs here, not so sure unless I put in a new electrical box I could add more

Glad that you had pretty quilts to cover yourself up with. Lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

It has gotten chilly here and now the thermostat wars begin! LOL My son purchased a GOOD air conditioner for his room last year. He will not have ANY heat on in his bedroom, all year round and will turn the air conditioner on periodically ALL year long. I just request he keep his door shut so we are not paying for to heat/cool the same areas!
Because Ben is in a wheelchair and not as active as me, he wants the house warmer. Sometimes we compromise by having the burners on in the kitchen while he's in there so the kitchen is warmer than the rest of the house. He likes to pull out the cutting board and read his Kindle in there.

I got to my sister's house yesterday and had a surprise. The embroidery/sewing machine that "Linda" had offered me last year, a mutual friend Debbie had picked it up, had it SERVICED and deliveried it to Marie's with the software she owned that would fit it! Debbie told me she didn't have the time to help with the doll project so this was her way of contributing! I sewed all yesterday on it. It is VERY similar to my sister's so I know the basics on it thank goodness! It's an older machine that uses floppy disks for the embroidery designs but all the rest of it is like most high end current models. I really enjoyed it. I was totally stunned by the generous gift.

The local shop would not give Linda any trade in on the machine and most people that have/want an embroidery machine wants something much newer than this so she had decided to just give it to me. She had said she'd get all the disks together etc and call me. I had followed up with her twice. I figured she changed her mind and didn't want to bother her.

It was too late last night to pack it up and bring it home so I'll do that today. We're still sew, sew, sewing.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Pat - that's Great that you have a new-to-you embroidery machine! How lovely that she gave it to you :-D
Betty - you're right about the trusses - it is going faster now that he has one to use as a template. He's hoping to have the entire outside done before the really cold weather hits.

Well, lovely people - take care, and I'll see you later :-D

Just now taking a break, everyone gone home, got to say was quite a zoo here today..started to do the witches hat then my boys arrived..Linda and Rachael finished theirs, boo hoo, I only got this far

Boys loved their costumes
Told Caleb he needs a haircut so his helmet will fit, says this week for sure, sure has a crop of hair..he is now 6'3"' I'm up to his belly button ..too funny..do the friendly. Giant, look up, look way uppppp

Linda brought me more mugs..I'm mugged out so have some to share with the girls

Nobody took time to eat, even muffins left over so I'm cooking spaghetti, have a piece of lemon pie and can almost guarantee you I'll be in bed early

Pat, what a fantastic gift, I can see you sewing up a storm and to think you have it for Christmas sewing..what kind is it? So excited for you

Susan, just knew it would go quickly now that the template is done..praying he gets it done before snow..are they calling for any?

I checked 14 day forecast, no snow in the schedule but then the weathermen have been know to be wrong

Need to go tidy up my craft room a tad up before supper

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those costumes came out awesome.
Congrats on the new sewing machine Pat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Lindakay, glad 3 are gone and the 4th one soon

Aunt Muriel and her beau Don dropped in a bit ago, brought me flannel for her second rag quilt

Decided I would eat then go clean craft room, bad decision, thinking of leaving it till morning...know myself though, if I do that I will not sleep thinking it should have been cleaned, Lordy I've a screw loose

Wonder how "M" is adjusting to being home

High of 43 today, fall for sure.

Aunt Muriel will drop in with thread for her rag quilt this morning and other than that I think I'm free to play...

Goal for today is finish witches sticks, maybe Lorraine's quilt and cut up Aunt Muriel's quilt blocks

Anxious to get my Santa Warren name..so enjoy swaps

Morning everyone. Finally fell asleep about 4am... darn that John Sandford for putting out a new book. The TH kept looking at the light wishing it would turn off. Finally Duke grabbed the string I have on the light switch and yanked it down. No more light. I have a ceiling fan in the BR and put string on the light switch so I didn't have to get out of bed to turn it off. With a lot of grumbling they all went to their sleep spots on the bed.
Chaos and Diesel had a blast chasing leaves yesterday. If I can figure out how to use the video on my camera I'll take a vid of them chasing those leaves.
Duke was just so nasty yesterday as the day progressed that he ended up in his crate for part off the evening.

Oh M I bet you gave a big sigh when you climbed into your own bed.

Does anyone here have a temerpedic mattress? I was thinking about 1 but then thought the TH might be too hard on it.

LK you stopped your allergy shots right?
Need to get some breakfast.

I am here. Dragging big time

Spent yesterday at the ER all day with DS. All I am going to say is some lessons in life you learn first hand....and I pray he learned from this one. Today he starts a new job and I hope better times ahead.

Betty, how hard is it to make a rag quilt? And can I do on a basic sewing machine? Thinking of the two kids.....and both are always cold.

Dianne, I am laughing at the lights going out from him pulling the cord! oh that had to be something. "I said to get to bed...now" haha

The bathroom project is that....a big project. Poor DH ended up doing it all himself while I was at the ER. And the paint was a pain in the a$$ to work with.....for some reason. Its a good quality....kitchen bath paint. But didn't want to spread and was glopping. That color I picked...I loved. Until I walked in there at 4:30 this morning and BOOOOOM. Wow is it bright in that little room!

No new floor in there yet....but is on the agenda. DH will be having hand surgery soon and just trying to get these little things done before that. Has to have the bone in his thumb fused. He hurt it badly at work, tore something, and there is no repair. So fusing is the only way.

Ok I need more coffee and perhaps a little nap. Still catching up after the last two days of little sleep.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, hugs for you and dear son, life is not always fair is it..thank goodness he has you as a mom..lets hope his new job turns out to be turning point. Love going into homes and seeing bright colors but for me not..I one painted the entire basement sitting room in a bright color, before weekends end I had repainted it. Does hubby have a date for surgery..and yes, you can do rag quilt on plain stitch machine, I could help you step by step..

Dianne, so laughing, what a commotion..I have a fan in bedroom with a light and remote control, also like I don't have to get up to turn it off/on

Worked hard this morning 😉

I'm about 1/2 finished quilt on frame, had some already done so wasn't hard to get to 1/2 way point

Missy watched as I painting, several times had to shoo her away as she was going to put kitty paws on my pieces, guess it might have added to it..waiting a bit for paint to dry then I will give it a finish coat and brad nail them together..should email Mel and tell her to drop in after work, not many days left she can enjoy it

Then cut out aunt Muriel's fabric, she wants a fair size blanket so think when I go to Barrie tomorrow I should pick up yardage as to ass a fourth color..we will see what she thinks

Sorry about the ER trip Debbie. Praying it is a speedy recovery for him.
I agree with Betty, rag quilts are easy to do. Just don't wash it in your home washing machine, they shed terrible.
Can't wait to see your finished project Betty.
Christmas is 2 months away.
Dianne, yes, no more allergy shots. I have 5 days left on my antibiotics, and finally starting to breathe easier.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, we have a tempurpedic mattress and love it. Our dogs are on it all the time, and there is no damage. We have had ours for 10 tears now. Just make sure you get the quick release ones. When we were shopping we were told they make a slow release and a quick release. Quick release means when you are sleeping and roll over, it will spring back more quickly, not leaving a deep impression. They are pricey, but a very good investment in my opinion.

Verona, ON

Thanks LK for the info. The next time I am in Ktown I will mattress shop. I think that only 1 store delivers out here.
M come out, come out where ever you are.!!! We all want to hear about the wedding.

Sending positive thoughts for Shane on his first day at his new job.
Sunny but chilly here.

Has anyone heard from Karen? Is she in the hospital, or on the road again?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was wondering same thing, haven't seen her oist here, sewing thread nor Facebook
Hmmm maybe I will go check to see if someone from her family is on Facebook to get an update

Victoria Harbour, ON

Got this response from Karen

"I'm in the hospital with pneumonia. I think they will keep me a couple days. I hate being here but sure hate the way I feel worse."

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear she is in the hospital.
Get well soon Karen.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I saw on facebook that "M" is home. She is probably plum tired out from all that driving.
Prayers for Karen. Sure hope this passes quickly....

Victoria Harbour, ON

She is now waiting for a room...

Now to hear how "M" made out..lots to do getting home after a ROADTRIP, good thing is Lorna is off work..bet the furries were excited to see her. Hope her DGD is ok

Wind is up here as is the furnace lol
Tired tonight, might get comfy..

Girls come tomorrow so early evening wouldn't hurt

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

If Muriel's fabric is the stack I see, a nice brown or blue looks like it would coordinate well.

Verona, ON

Well darn.. Sharon's sleep angels found me around midnight but Duke opened the door to the deck. The rest of the TH came in to tattle. So now Mr Duke can now unlock that door as well as open it. Guess I am up for awhile now. Going to read for a bit and make some hot chocolate.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - you and your TH!! They're a real hoot!
Poor Karen! No wonder I've been feeling I should call her - should never ignore feelings.......
I agree - positive thoughts for Shane on his first day, although by now he's had it, right?

Gosh I wish I could help Bob with the addition....... He wants to be three of him, to get it done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Brought garbage to the roadside and Lordy it's cold out there..39 with a feels like 30 because of the wind..high today 43 with feels like 38....know what is coming..a post on area Facebook posts said it well 'enjoy the colors because the next one is white'

Usually I'm 2nd in posting, "M" is usually here before me..know she commented that granddaughter was in the hospital, sure hope she posts so we know all is well.

Pat, yes that is the pile, thought of blue but never brown, you are right what a zing it would give the quilt..thanks

Susan, is there not a social assistance office or manpower office that one can get manpower by the day? Even if they have no construction skills at least they could help Bob with lifting etc. Guess now you are out of Calgary and into small community there wouldn't be such offices..

Dianne you sure have your hands full with the TH..how did your gathering on the lake go?

Lindakay and Debbie, how are you feeling today!

Have to run into town and buy chicken and pork chops for tomorrow night,my turn to host the Battens & friend monthly gathering, likely my last hosting till spring unless weather in December is ok for them to come

Sharon drove almost non stop from Texas, did very well at dog show..she did the drive alone, poor thing..I'm relieved she is home and hopefully going to sleep all day.

Putting curling iron to my hair, need to go put washing into dryer then can relax and have a coffee until the girls get here..

What exciting do you have planned for today??

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our Luna can unlock and open our door. They sure are little stinkers.

I was feeling pretty good yesterday morning but the wind shifted and came in from the north bringing mountain cedar, and I started coughing and sneezing. Has to take extra cough syrup.

Good morning or afternoon.
Well After waiting for an hour to receive interview call, I decided to make the call.
It was a good thing the person wrote wrong day on her calendar. So, we had the interview and I passed to the next phase. She will send an assessment and then it will determine a face to face interview. OMG, I really hope I get this, it's just too perfect. Even the starting pay is what I would expect. 36hrs per week, 1/2 day Fridays!!
In the meantime Sabrina's Halloween bash was a great success, and lots of fun.
lol, I see some of you have seen pictures she posted...but I will share a few with you here.
...Also, I Thank you all again, My friend Dianne's pathology report came back cancer free!!!

Oh man, so sorry to hear of the sinus infections Linda Kay and Debbie.
I hope you both clear up fast.
Betty, looks like your work shops are underway!! Everything looks awesome.
Got lots of compliments on Miss Witch you did for me.

Oh Susan, I did not have knee surgery, I believe Deb did.
Hope your feeling better.

Too funny about TH opening doors and turning off lights!!
ok be back in a bit...

Omg big time, great you made the call, shows an interest and with your background here's hoping the job is yours..wouldn't that be something..id do the happy dance for you.

As for workshops haven't had any, just friends dropping in to sew and paint, June and Aline want to do Christmas floor mats so must go get a roll of linoleum..had they said that earlier I'd have cut some Halloween mats, too late for this year but a must for next

This weekend will be dedicated to our dg Christmas workshop, bought wood, berry wreaths, strings of battery lights so it's now do a ,project to see if the project I've in mind comes together

Missy decided to sit with Aline, she found a ball of wool a good chin rest. Lol

I worked on the poncho (1 od 3) for Suzanne's granddaughter for their Christmas box, working on collar, sew in buttons and I will see how it turns out before doing the other 2
