Hi All.....

Just got a message from Sharon, Bessie Lous sister.

YES, Betty did go to the Emergency room.. She drover HERSELF!
I am shaking my head at this stubbornness (I would have done same probably)

And while at the hospital her appendix ruptured. Dr. is livid with her for waiting so
long.

Sharon said she had surgery, all went well.....and she is resting.

Computers are all down at the hospital so she has no contact with us right now.

I will update if I hear any more from Sharon.

Debbie

Wanted to add, with her kidney issues and this rupture....I am sure she will be
set up in a crafting area at the hospital for a few days giving lessons to all and
each will have a quilt before she leaves.

Keeping her in my prayers and all of you.

We need duct take and bubble wrap to keep this woman tied down to heal.

I'm thinking you're right, Marilynne! Hope she feels better soon......

Karen - so sorry I had to hang up on you earlier - it's been a crazy phone call day. A friend of mine also from Midfield came over - their home is being moved here from same park and she needed to use my phone for about 3 hours - the moving co can't move her home yet. She's living here with her hubby, in their RV. Has been, since Friday, I think. Anyway, she's trying to get all her utilities reset and it's been tough for them. They're older than Bob & I - in their 70's I would guess, or maybe he's in his 80's. He's not a very robust person. I'll try calling you tomorrow, and maybe I can have a "clear" phone lol

Debbie, Thanks for the update on Betty. Keeping her in our prayers.

LOL, at the crafting room!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

DEBBIE .. big hugs and many thanks for the update re Betty .. she will be a bit 'ill' for a couple of days .. especially having had the appendix rupture .. major antibiotics ..
Am wondering if in the spring is wasn't what is referred to as 'grumbling appendix' that was her problem ... at any rate, time to SLOW DOWN !!!!!!!!!!

Again, thanx for keeping us in the loop Debbie:-)
BTW .. how are you feeling?

Thank you so much for the new of Betty, Debbie. Prayers being said for a quick recovery for her.

Debbie - Thank you for the update on Betty - a ruptured appendix? Along with her kidneys, I'm really not surprised she was so ill and the Dr being livid with her. Goodness, no wonder she's been so ill!! And to drive herself?!?!?! Stubborn lady, sure glad to hear that she's fine!! I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well. Thanks to you & Sharon for keeping us updated.

M - I thought same thing about the spring episode. Is what happened with me, I ignored them....but when took out my gallbladder also took appendix. Doc said it had so much scar tissue and abcessed...I was lucky. I think Miss Betty has been ignoring this much longer than we know!

I will update when I can. Off to the groomer with Sammy......and will fill you in when I get back.

Thanks Debbie, so glad to know our Betty is safe and being cared for, We ladies are a stubborn lot when it comes to caring for ourselves.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

KAREN .. lmao .. I GOTTA tell ya ..I'll look after everyone else, and, leave me on the sidelines ..
I CAN 'PUT OFF' ACHES AND PAINS ETC FOR A LONG TIME, LIKE betty .. then, boom ..I get caught .. example, my hip :-( .

Having cared for more than my fair share of post op ruptures, I can tell ya she'll be wanting bed for sometime .. and, will be isolated to boot ..
Hope I have her addy to send a card ..

Hope the groomer was an ok deal Debbie .. I so wish we could do ours, but, there is just no way that's happening ..

Deb, how are you doing ? Physio helping?

LK .. are your hives any better ...

Karen/Sharon .. how are you ladies doing ?

You know, I could do our 110 lb Newfie in the tub if I had to, or even out in the yard.
But this little guy...all 30 lbs, is a handful and he hates the water. We are having a bad time with fleas, even all medicated animals with their flea meds. SO, I gave in and called the groomer. They will do a flea bath, and shave his shaggy locks to about 1 inch....until I can get the fleas under control.

I have put off health care so long for me, and is probably why I am in the shape I am. I waited til it got too hard, now paying for that to fix.

Normal C-Reactive Protein is normal 0-3. My last two tests were 11.9 and 16.7.
It has been 2 months and I go for a retest this week.
Most all immune system has bottomed out even after having two Prevnar 13 & 23 (Pneumonia vaccines) 18 months ago to help boost....is gone.
Possible inflammation in the lining of the heart started most of this in January with the high fever and some issues. SO...yes, still a battle. Sept. 14 is the big appointment.

I messaged Betty's sister...no updates yet. Yes, I am sure she will be down for awhile. Only so much you can fake on something like this. The chances of a secondary infection are high with a rupture.....and I worry so with her kidneys.

I think the physio is helping. Still some swelling in the knee, but nothing really hurts. It does get a little achy if I'm up on it too much.

Bonnie is supposed to be shown in Biloxi, MS this weekend, but don't know if that will happen because of Hermine. I think it's supposed to make landfall tonight. A friend who lives in Tallahassee said they were being sent home from work at noon today, and her office would be closed tomorrow, too. Praying for everyone in the path of the storm.

Fleas can be so hard to get under control. I don't envy you having to deal with them, Debbie. I've found some of the flea treatments (namely Frontline) doesn't seem to help at all anymore here.

Sorry to hear you're still having health issues, hope your Sept 14th appt is a good one.

Deb

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm feeling OK "M". O have a few twinges from the pancreas but trying to get past them. I'm really trying to avoid the hosp., I know the routine and parts of it mess me up.

Deb I got flea/tick collars made by Bayer and we haven't had a single problem. They were expensive but if I remember were effective for a very long time.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We go to the vets and get a pill for the sogs, good for 3 months. It works really well.
Last year we left the dogs at the kennel for the weekend while we went to the hot rod show in Austin, they came home so full of fleas. All the sprays and powders we bought at walmart did nothing, so we took them to the vet and got those big chewable pills, and in a week, the fleas were gone. Pricey, but well worth it.

"M", hives are gone today. They do that, I will have them for a few days, then they are gone for a few. Today was my 2nd injection for allergies, and I feel like crap. They told me because they are putting trace amounts of what I am allergic to, I will feel bad for about a month, till I get used to it.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Best wishes for an good apt on the 14th Debbie .
When I had my first Psoriatic arthritis flare about 4 years ago, my sed rate was hovering around 90 !! I honestly thought I was done for ..
Celebrex and oxys got me through .. and now every 6 weeks I get 'THE SHOT' .. a biologic medication that tricks my immune system .
What we don't put up with ..

Deb .. have been watching Hermine .. quite the storm .. hopefully all in her path/wake are taking precautions ..
PHYSIO IS ALWAYS KINDA BORING,BUT, IT WORKS .

Yipes, fleas .. we don't seem to get too much of that up here .. ticks though ..we treat the dogs with Advantix ..same as Frontline ..

LK ..hang tough with those shots ..

Good to hear your doing better Karen ..

Am thinking Betty will be wanting OUT ... just hope she rests ..

He looks great Debbie! Hope he stays flea free!
Sending prayers for Betty. We all know her so well regarding her not going to doctor when needed. She must have been in terrible pain to have gone and I thank God that she did even if she did drive herself! (Sorry about the run on sentence but my fingers just wouldn't stop!) I do think Debbie that she will have all the nurses quilting by the end of her stay!!! If not that, then they will all be in her painting class!!!!
Sending prayers to all anywhere near the storm areas. It doesn't seem possible that it has been 5 years since Norm and I were at Betty's and had to cut our visit short because of Hurricane Irene. Made it home just in time to pick up anything outside and stock up with some food and water. The next three days were a mess but we came through it all just fine.

Lyndonville, NY

I just talked to Sharon.

Betty is "doing ok" but is in a lot of pain. They have her on a morphine pump to control the pain right now.

She is resting as much as possible and I think it will be a few days before we see any improvements.

Sharon was driving so she will let me know more when she can.

Barb, I remember that trip, we met at Timmy Ho's for coffee.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Sammy looks wonderful Debbie, and, I think I have fallen in love with your floors .. gorgeous :-)

As I mentioned, Betty will be sick .. the surgery for ruptured appendix is referred to as dirty surgery as the goop in the appendix is now out where it isn't supposed to be ..
I asked for my appendix to be removed when I had my hysterectomy .. back then they would do it, not anymore though ..

Saying a prayer or more for Betty

Sleep tight all ..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

That was the reason they didn't remove Paytons last year after it burst, Dr. said all the infection was contained in a sac, they didn't want to disturb it and spread the infection. It burst in July and wasn't removed until Sept.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hate to think of Betty being in so much pain, but it can't be helped. She left it too long and now she's suffering for it. (Gosh I hated typing that - do NOT want Betty in pain.......) :-/

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.

Betty, so glad to see you posting. Please listen to the Dr. and try to get some rest, almost impossible in the hospital. Love ya bunches, get better soon!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending gentle hugs Betty and much love from both of us. Please try to do what they want you to do so you will get better fast.
I remember Tim Horton's too Debbie. What a wild ride home that was for us. From Betty's to home in about 16 hours. And what a mess the next few days were too. Irene left a lot of damage.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doctor came in, I said you did a good job doc, he said it was a precarious situation and had to be a good surgeon or I'd not be here..maybe an exaggeration but he says not

We talked about all those hospital visits in April/May and he said he could almost guarantee was appendicitis , now why couldn't they have diagnosed me?

I said this time I was not vomitting as much, he said that the warnings back then were extreme and Monday when it started /erupted body was being poisoned

So guess I'm lucky..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

He is telling the truth Betty, several people don't make it when they ignore the symptoms, and it is too late for surgery.
So glad you are still with us.

Sending gentle (((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Add me to the list. So happy to see you post Betty. Get all healed soon so you can come home, but then don't overdo.

Lyndonville, NY

(((Bessie Lou)))) Happy to see you.

Our school lost a young girl...age 16...to a ruptured appendix, she thought was menstrual cramps and ignored. YES the doc is telling you the truth.

Please take care and rest and know we all miss and love you dearly.
Debbie

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

This won't happen again as the appendix now gone but....it's never a good idea to drive yourself to the hospital when you are in crisis. Call someone or an ambulance, don't worry about seeming wimpy, it's their job. What if you had lost consciousness? We love you and want to keep you around for a good long time.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

a ruptured appendix is very serious, and yes the Dr was telling the truth. Having all that poison in your system is scary stuff.
*Big Gentle Hugs* to you, dear lady

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Have seen the tragedy and sorrow of ruptured appendix left too long .. horrible ..
Just happy you're on the med Betty ..

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, feeling a tad better, they do,things so differently here, co Ed rooms, pharmacists comes to your room and reviews meds you are taking..he came and said white blood count good but urinary infection still high..the two antibiotics should be strong enough to clear it but isn't so he will give me a 3rd.

M glad that Brooklyn is home...likely be an on/off thing for a bit

Debbie, you don't know how happy I am seeing you post, worried about you as well

Waving to all others, will come back mad you'd your posts once I have a nap

Hugs

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty so happy to see you posting. Was so worried about you. Now rest. soft hugs to you.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

"M" glad to hear Brooklyn is home. Sometimes it takes a dose of the real world before it is realized being an adult isn't all it's cracked up to be. Likely will be a bit rocky, she's going to be quick to threaten leaving again if things don't go her way,.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

But at least for today she is safe"M"/ One day at a time.
Glad to see you posting Betty. And yes, this was a near miss for you. You are one lucky lady. God must have very special plans for you.....
