Best worse, what did I learn today, February 2016

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

That picture is definitely a KEEPER, Sharon
Wow - how adorable is that?

Karen - can I join you in your sewing? I would love to :)

Verona, ON

When I graduated from university my parents gave me a sewing machine as a gift. I never used it. When we moved down to this house I gave it to a facility that has day programmes for patients that the Ont government no longer saw the need to provide 24 hour care. After the closing of the Psychiatric hospital in Ktown there was a lot of scrambling to find places for all of the patients. Sadly some are still on the streets.even now.

The storm has yet to hit here but the sky is threatening. The school board will be kicking themselves.for cancelling school today.

Oh Sharon I've enjoyed having your sleep angels visit. I even lent them out to Debbie. They don't work every night but I am sure glad when they do.

LK how goes your day? Hope your pain is still at a low level. How are the dogs reacting to you ? Stormy and Quill kept a wide berth of the walker but knew the crutches meant I would be going outside so they kept running to the door and barking.

Afternoon everyone. I had my first day of therapy, and I am glad I took my pain meds before they got here. But they found those muscles still work. It is going to take a lot of exercise to get them going.
My dogs are awesome. They know I hurt, so they gently come up on the sofa or bed to snuggle.

Slow and easy LK> I am thrilled to see you doing so well... Keeping you in my prayers for minimal pain as you recuperate.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sharon just love that photo..was having tremendous amount of pain in the knees, awake most of the night then my brother Mike and soil Kim told me about Mercyndol,do not need prescription but is kept behind pharmacist counter, I take one about 6pm and another before bed, Lordy barely any pain and sleeping through the night, if I do wake I just make myself comfy and doze off again..been actually staying in bed until 7:30 a.m. Unheard of for me!

Karen so nice to see you are enjoying your machine again, you must be on the mend to be sewing again..

Lindakay, surprising isn't it that the animals sense when we are not well...I did a no no the other day, coming from midland near the Shrine (some of you have been there) there is an Ospca, only 2 kitties, didn't want to separate the and sure didn't want 3 cats, only dog up for adoption was a husky, sweetest little thing, but, Sharon told me not to consider the huskie so I will continue my search ..may call a border collie breeder, for that I'd have to save my pennies

Barb, meant to ask, are there a lot of apartments for rent in your area or are they far and few between

Dianne, must go check St, David's day.. I've decorated for St Patrick's day but wasn't aware there was yet another saint that needed celebrating..got a clay flower pot, turned it upside down, painted green, did floral arrangement on top (need some babies breath yet) put green light in it and voila, cute as a button..intent when in town was to make Melanie one

All the girls were here today, Aline just got back from Florida..I made lunch and we presented her with a gift certificate so she can purchase a mature tree for her yard as a remembrance of her dad that passed away at 101 a month ago..another of the gals lost her mom Sunday evening so we will have to make another trip to the nursery. All are doing Easter appliqué bunny runners, adorable..fun watching them come together..I just cleaned the blackboard and made my March 'to do' list..I'm more focused with seeing a list.

White outs yesterday but very little snow, a few hours ago the start of another storm, like the other northern gals, am all stocked up so don't have to go out..anything I need or craft supplies can wait till the sun is saying hello...had planned on dropping off my sewing machine for repair, visit fabric shop then pick up Chinese as I'm craving it but here I sit.

They always say in like a lion and out like a lamb so guess the worse is here and spring temps by month's end.

Verona, ON

Betty I use Mersyndol instead of T3's or percocet.. It is very effective. If you can't tolerate codeine it is not for you.Just about every Rx store carries it and if they don't they can order it. It comes is 20's and 100's. I always have some on hand. They laugh at me at the village Rx store as I am the only one who asks for it. In fact I mail a bottle about once a month to my sister's boys.

Snow has just started to fall. I'm ready not happy about it but I'm ready. Watching the TV news from City TV and can see how the storm is moving east. Oh Betty Gord Martineau retired last night. He wanted to leave quietly with no fanfare.

Karen .. must be a bogus weather map I am looking at .. looks like you and Bettty and Dianne are getting snowed on .. Lorna's folks have had BIG winds .. and are awaiting an icy blast ..
Love the fact your sewing away .. making memories

Home a FED up with gov't bureaucracy ..Lorna is such a kind personandto be treated by angry people obviously working at a job they dislike, is, disheartening.. she had to deal with a couple of 'meanies' ,like that,today.. I MAY intervene ..
Someone posted a pic of a TShirt on FBook ..on the front it said ..
'Lookout Buttercup, you just flipped my bit*h switch'! I'll try to kind ..

Welcome back Deb .. how's your pack doin? And, of course, you too ..

Hope you don't get what's predicted Dianne .. just be careful .. make sure your phones are charged too ..

Best get outta here

Well I spoke too soon on the weather. It's just plain ugly out there.

I got the T-shirt quilt top all pieced today, waiting to hear from long armer whenb she wants it. Now back to the QOVS

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Dropping in to check on LK news. Happy to hear you are doing so well and wishing you a very speedy recovery. My SO is scheduled to have his second hip done April 14th. The left was done Dec. '14. Thank goodness he willl then have run out of hips! Last time around he was the last surgery of the day and was kept overnight for that reason. More administrative paper shuffling issues than patient care issues. All those quadruplicates. But his surgeon said, barring complications, average stay two years later is now five hours! He went for a pre-op final eval today and the surgeon said SO might go earlier because he's on a "will call" list.

Karen, glad to hear you and your sewing machine are reunited. I've enjoyed sewing during the cold weather break from the vegetable garden but nature will soon call. Thus my projects carry over from year to year. We've been t-shirt weather the last few days so the writing is on the wall. Time to start seed on heat mats.

I gave DD an Elna Funstyler for her 16th birthday. She is terrifically creative and was able to design all kinds of cool projects. Unfortunately she was in those busy years and without lessons she didn't learn basics such as to cut away selvages, how to properly back tack or adjusting thread tension. She took her machine to college and then into marriage. She's made all kinds of projects but, between us, she could really use a good old fashioned home ec course. :) I hope she comes back to sewing some day.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi all - it's a bit cold, but not as bad as it was the other day - snow on the ground one day, none the next and hoarfrost on the grass all day the next.
We're bouncing all over the weather map.

Karen - how nice to get your sewing machine back. I think I appreciated sewing more than most kids when I was growing up - really enjoyed Home Ec for sewing and cooking.

Didn't get to sleep until 5am - dunno why, just felt like staying up.........now I'm tired and want to sleep....... but won't

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Holy cow. 5 hours after hip surgery and sent home? I had to plead to go home 2 days later.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

LK, he would have been home same day last time but by the time he was admitted to a room it was change of shift. Then there was no available R.N. to check off hall walking, bathroom and stairs. I was an a available R.N.but didn't count. They kept him overnight and he was out the door by 9 a.m. only because that's how long it took day shift to close out his chart and discharge papers. Like you, he needed little pain meds but they were necessary to get tbrough PT. My best advice is to be faithful to your exercises both now and in the future. If your health plan allows, continue PT after home visits for at least three months to regain optimal range of motion. My SO regrets not having done follow up PT. It was not suggested or prescribed but he has since had PT evaluation and treatment and will use his benefits to the max this time around.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have home health for one month, then I go to town for more therapy.

Well the 'big' storm event was a no show. We certainly didn't get hit like some areas. There was snow, freezing rain just rain and then the cycle would start again. I understand all the highways and roads are covered in black ice. Numerous accidents and all the buses were cancelled except for the school in the village. And that bus will only be going on the main roads.

The TH are being a PIA. Last night when I turned the sensor light on the glass in front of the bulb cracked and fell onto the steps. I've been trying to let them out the side door. They want nothing to do with it.Its tough walking so we won't be going far this after noon but I do want to check on 1 of the houses I take care of during the winter months. The owner rented it out this summer and someone walked off with her keys. She had to have 9 locks redone. Now I am sure you all will want to rent this huge home for at least 1 night at $500 a pop.

LK how goes the battle today? You are a wise lady to take your pain meds before PT.

I have been having horrific dreams when I do get to sleep. I am wondering if not wanting to have another bad dream makes it even harder for me to fall asleep.

Need to go and referee a chewie discussion. Diesel likes to get all the chewies into his mouth - he will even nap with them in his mouth. Duke will only want one that is already partially chewed and Chaos just doesn't care he just wants in on what he sees as fun.

Safe travel M and Betty out on those roads..

Thank you all for birthday wishes..did have plans for today but Mother Nature stepped in and changed them..was out just after 6am digging my car out to make things easier for Andrew who plows, was doing walkways when he arrived..he did have a difficult time getting through the 3-4ft the township plow had left at end of drive..long story short, I'm all cleared and township roads now plowed..can you believe they say next week we will be in the 50's, flood city for sure

drats, was reminded this morning about licence plate renewal which should have been done before Sunday so must drive into town this afternoon..have a zillion places to go so likely pick up Chinese on the way home..julie had an operation this morning so Jeff has to pick her up from the hospital at 2, Greg is away doing work on a ship, Melanie has to make up time due to getting into work late so we will have a gathering another day.

I could see earth last week, last night's snowfall..including a photo

Been on the telephone constantly since just after 8:30 so will have lunch then downstairs and try to finish a quilt on the frame.

Happy Birthday Bessie Lou! Hope you have a wonderful day.

We had snow and ice over night, not much of each, just enough for a mess.

Yes Weatherman said next week 50+ all week, I am ready and will hold him to
that promise. Only 3 days of it, then back down a bit.

Waving to all sending hugs and prayers
