Best worse, what did I learn today, January 2016

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Eye docs apt on Friday
DH is kind of 'blase' about it .. I feel awful !

Say ,, I guess I'm rather insulated on this thread, from what I hear there has been some 'bad stuff' happening in another forum .. have no clue which one ..

Waving to Barb, Dianne, Sharon, Debbie, Deb, Jean, Judy, Joyce, Karen LK .. ALL the folks who make this thread ,,"home'

Night night

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I haven't heard anything bad.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

nope, nothing bad that I can think of. I go to all 3 sites and frankly, I prefer to be insular lol I prefer gentle folk :-) I'm no good at confrontation

This if def "home", as are other places wherever I see friends :-D

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Rats "M" was hoping to hear good news for Gord.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

As had I Karen .. downright disappointing ..
He now says he'll have nothing done to his other eye unless this one clears up and flies right !
Can't say as I blame him ..how much monkeying around can you do to eyes before there's nothing left to do !?

Cooler morning here .. 14F
Lorna and I are going to a presentation on Elder Abuse put on by Hospice and the Thunder Bay Police .
Not sure what the rest of the day will bring ..

Hope you all have a good day

~M~

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning
Sending prayers for Gord. What you told us is scary "M". Sure hope they get this pressure problem straightened out soon.

Had a sort of bad day yesterday. I was having a hard time with my left wrist. It was really sore and I couldn't pick up anything or hold onto anything without pain. Not severe but enough to really make me aware. So I decided to baby it for the day and therefore got nothing done with my sewing or crocheting. I'm thinking maybe I strained it a bit as I had crocheted a lot the night before. Anyway it is fine now but I just hate losing days like that.....

I got the Mariner's compass top put together on Sunday. Was hoping to get it sandwiched and quilted yesterday but will try for today.

Norm and I had been talking about getting a new cat too but decided against it. This apartment is so small and we would not want to let it out here in this complex we didn't think it would be fair to a new cat. But I love seeing photos of all your fur babies......

Looking back on the thread I see where you are still in love with the scraper I sent "M". How is it holding up? Do you need a new one yet? I'm so glad it proved to be so useful to you....

Off to finish up my breathing machine. Have a good day everyone....

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!
M, so sorry to hear about the pressure. Not even sure what to say other then I hope it can be relieved. Can he see? Ohhh, maybe I can shoo these wild kittens your way!

Barbara, yikes, sure hope your wrist is ok, maybe like you said just over worked a bit...Oh, well I roamed over to your sewing thread, Beautiful job on the Compass!!

OMG, As if I don't get enough of it during the week, I'm dreaming of ??? Laundry!!!
Seriously? that's what's on my mind, hahaha. Well I guess it's much better than all comotions going on.

I'm rather pleased with progress on blanket! Ironed the fabric and manages to cut and sew 2 blocks and cut the next 2. I'm glad I chose this pattern it's really easy.
Karen you might enjoy it. Big cheesy grin, it's the first time ever I didn't resize and I think they turned out nicely...When I get these next 2 sewn I'll share a photo, I think in a cluster 4 would be a better view of the pattern, Yep, I like it!!

Well, I hope that groundhog predicts an early spring...
I think I mentioned about that down tree. woohoo it was sunny yesterday, so Jake went out and cut up those limbs. We are back in business with warmth.
not mention, I'm not looking at a pile of wood.

LIZ, hahah...managing to keep the place in order!

Yeppers Thunder, it so sweet to dream. And one of the first things is to create a fabric wall, much like yours only a bit smaller!

Deb, hows the knee?

Sue/Rockett, I did post in my lost post...Thank you for such a nice post. I am glad you refer yourself as watcher, it's so much nicer then "lurker" lol.
Anyway, I added you to my prayers. Praying you caught this early to have the Chemo obliterate the cancer. And I pray you for your strength. Sending you tight Armwraps.

Dianne, (Also wrote)...Ever hear of Chicken Soup for the Soul? Great inspirational reads by people. I've been reading them for years. Anyway, Julia gave me a copy Called Touched by an Angel. It's has a few stories how people's loved ones come back or seem to as a family pet. So, nope I'm not laughing, one just never knows how Angels appear, wink. Oh and I was just smiling away at the TH ice capades!

Debbie, sure hope your feeling better.

ok, lunch has been made, post-made and now it's time to SEW...
Enjoy the morning.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

M - so sorry that Gord's not happy with his eye - I, too, can understand him not wanting to have the 2nd one worked on until the first is better. Can only imagine how the pressure must be...... yuck!!

Barb - yes, a new cat would take space, and they like to roam. As much as it's a small furry, they stretch out everywhere - as Betty can attest, in her quilting stuff LOL I love seeing the pics of her Missy "taking over" I wonder if she's tried to teach Missy how to quilt, or at least lay out the fabric........ lol

I'm 2/3 done on my redwork embroidery, but it's straining my left wrist a bit, so will take a break and work on the piecing part of the lapquilt I'm doing, and on the center for the Round Robin I'm organizing - it's going to be God's Eye, from Quilter's Cache.

hooray - just got a call from the surgeon's office - I have an app't on Wed March 16th at 1:30 to have him look at my knees!! Yesterday they said it may still be another 5 months or more to see him!!
I saw this same Dr in 2013, so they're saying it's more like a repeat, than me as a new patient :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a beautiful quilt block Susan, and congrats on getting the Dr.'s appointment.

Barb, I went to the other site, and I did not see your compass quilt. Will have to go back and look again.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thank you, LK :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I'd like to see the compass quilt as well ..

Susan .. lovely pattern and colour on the bloc .. good stuff on the appointment being moved up as well .. good luck with those knees ..

Just home from the presentation on Elder Abuse .. SHAME on some people !!! I KNOW we will have to be careful re our daughter in law .. this year is the year we settle out the legal stuff surrounding our last wishes and Power of Attorney .. .. I wanted it done last year, but, we didn't do it ..

Having a glass of wine .. it'll either put me to sleep, or, wake up my bladder .. hoping for the former ..

hey Sharon .. where you be??
Dianne .. all OK with you

Debbie and Deb .. how are you doing ?

Betty, if you're lurking .. HELLO :-)

OK .. off to see if I have a Scrabble game to complete

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Now to see if I have material in that colour, in my stash, to match the God's Eye center for the Round Robin - I like that particular colouring :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Up and ready to shovel as we were SUPPOSED to have rec'd SIGNIFICANT snowfall overnight, but, there might be an inch .. just enough to make a great rolling pad for the dogs ..
LOTS of wind, .. I'll wait til it's light ..

MAY go for groceries a little later ..

Take good care

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
Please be careful driving in the snow.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Weather has been absolutely horrid. Hard rain most of the day yesterday, everything is mud covered. Dogs, floors, everything. This is my back yard, it's the dogs's yard, but it's unusually gross. I tried walking them, but it takes time for them to find the right spot, and I can only manage one or two at a time, and with 7 at the moment, that would take way more time than I can spare. So I deal with the mud, I've never had it so bad before. Praying for a freeze here!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

BIG TIGHT HUGS Deb .. I will be going through that goopy mess in a few months .. it is awful ..
Our driveway was the WORST .. used to tell people coming over to either bring boots with them, or wear them .. finally, last fall I had HAD it .. and we forked out the cashola to have the driveway filled in .. waiting to see what will happen come March April .. hope it worked .. but, the dog runs/backyard will be gross ..
Feel for ya ..

Well .. looks like a stay home day .. have some snow falling, but, it's COLD .. about
-18F with that darned north wind ..
Always tomorrow .. as DH says, the flyers come out tonight ..

Barb .. the pastry scraper is fine n dandy .. Betty Crocker makes a good product, AND, since the utensils you gave me are bright red, I have been gifted at Christmas with more 'red utensils', and, I LOVE IT :-)

Dianne, did you get freezing rain ?

LK .. 20 sleeps........

Making an Irish dish for supper best get to mixing ..

BBL

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

20 sleeps and counting. We just made arrangements with my youngest son that lives in San Antonio. He and the family will be coming here to watch our dogs and parrot. Last time we took them to the kennel, both dogs were full of fleas, it took months of trips to the vet for meds to get rid of them. So Andy and family will stay here, while I have my surgery.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

That's great Linda. Must be a relief to know your critters will have good care.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is a relief. We don't like using the kennels.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

That's great, LK, that you have your furries & winged friend looked after - I would rather have someone I know look after any of mine........

Verona, ON

Well I just fought the wood pile and it fought me. It won.

Dreary day here. there is still a rain warning in effect. Of course the divas did not want to spend as much time as I wanted to outdoors.

LK I am very leery of kennels. The first time we used a kennel 1 of my dogs Cassie died. So didn't use one for quite a while after that. A few years later Warren and I were going to a show and it would need both of us to man the booth so I tried another kennel. It cost us a fortune to get rid of the worms they both got. It was some special kind of worm that the kennel was known for..After that we paid someone to move into our house for the weekend while we were gone.

Dianne and her TH..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

All good news today. my blood count is up. My procedure went well and Dr. says it's looking really good. I don't have to have the procedure again unless my blood starts dropping again. Which could happen but he thinks I'm good for a long while.

Verona, ON

Woo hoo for your good news Karen.

It is quite warm here. Snow banks are melting rapidly. That's great as long as it stays warm because it will be a skating rink on the lane.I might need to go out tomorrow but I could leave it till Sat. How the lane looks will tell the tale.

Sassy is sitting on the buffet staring at me and chirping away. She has to go downstairs to eat. For the last few days I have been letting Sassy and Streak up stairs for part of the day. Streak has been good so far - I just hope he can remember why he was banished to the downstairs,

LK I can't remember how many days you will be in the hospital after your surgery. I know 1 night is just too many.

Deb I so understand your problem with the dogs.x 7. I got 1 of the Soggy Doggy's floor mat and it is a real help. Due to the exchange rate right now I have looked around in the local(rural) co-op and I think I have found it. The owner will bring in a couple -2 sizes and I will try one.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear you lost a dog from the kennel Dianne.

I was told I would be in the hospital 2-4 days.

Karen, that is awesome news.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

OH ... pray tell, what is a SOGGY DOGGY doormat DIanne :-)
Sounds like my kinda mat .. !

LK .. how wonderful re your son and family moving in to care for things while you are in hospital ..
We are having fits re Gord's other eye surgery as it may happen in April, and, Lorna goes back to work then .. I haven't used a kennel in forever !!

Karen, awesome news .. not having to have those procedures is a bonus :-)

Time to go horizontal

Sleep well ...

~M~

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Dianne - how awful to have lost a dog to a kennel, and worms....... yikes
LK - sorry to hear you're going to be in the hospital that long - will you be able to use your laptop and keep in touch?
Karen - hooray! Sounds like things are finally going forward for you - glad to know that you're not "leaking" :-)

What I learned today:
I heard some advice today that I hope we don't have to take........ were told that if our tenants decide to stay, we can't do much about it. There are no rent restrictions in Calgary, so we have 2 options that we have to do 3 months before the lease is up, June 15th. We have either raise the rent from $900 to $2000 a month, or advise them that the lease will not be renewed. Advising it won't be renewed is actually something we already did, but would have to restate it since the Hearing.
The other thing is to get an Order Of Possession from the courts.
I've put a call into LegalShield (Canada & US law firm, and we pay $27.95/month for unlimited phone advice), to get their input on this.
I'll keep you posted.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Wow, LK! SO went to surgery in the morning and left early the next morning. That was two years ago this December. He is now a go for the other hip and his packet says he will be released same day barring complications. His surgeon used anterior approach and trains other surgeons from around the country in this newer nethod. Is your surgeon using anterior? SO was able to get around with no aids immediately post op. Regardless, you will be so happy to be rid of the pain, I know. I'm up half the night while he us bouncing around in the bed and arranging pillows to get comfortable. Six months ago they told him not yet and now he's bone on bone.

Well, always something to grouse about but one thing is certain...we've had pretty amazing weather!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, I hope you have some good legal advice, reference your paperwork, and get them out as soon as possible.

Yes, I have to have the anterior surgery, not for sure why.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I am excited - We are going to have Christmas In March here at the MacKenzie household! When Susan comes here from GA, we're just gonna DO it. Not a big place, but when you wanna do something, by heck, you just go and Do it, right?!?!?
We're going to go to our tenant's place, and get our Christmas decorations from OUR shed, and see if we can empty out this tiny place, and do it up all Christmas-y!! So THERE lol
Susan's coming for my birthday, and hopes to be here on the 10th, and leave on the 20th! last year was 1 week, and she wants MORE lol
Can you tell that I'm excited? We now just have to figure out which date......... lol and we have 7 boxes (at least) of Christmas decorations to go through - some we'll put in our storage locker at the Storage company, rather than go back and forth to our tenants. Apparently he's going up to the Yukon for 2 months, but she'll stay in Calgary?!?! don't know, don't care.........
Susan's coming for Christmas In March!!!! woooooooo hoooooooo!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is awesome! Enjoy the time together.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm looking forward to her visit - making me truly happy for the first time in a long time - I didn't even go to sleep last night LOL

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Sounds like lots of good news here!!

I'll have to check out the Soggy Doggy mats. Right now, I'm looking for anything that will help!

Verona, ON

Deb I think the US company is called Orvis.. I was initially leery about trying it but a friend who has 5 Rottis swears by it.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It's $53 Cdn for the Soggy Doggy mats

Verona, ON

Yes I know and they also do not pay for shipping to Canada.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They are $39.99 on Amazon, with free shipping. But I don't know if that includes Canada?

http://www.amazon.com/Soggy-Doggy-26-Inch-Microfiber-Chenille/dp/B0052FS38E

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Amazon.ca has them for $44.79 Cdn - that's much more in USD lol
