Best worse, what did I learn today, January 2016

Verona, ON

Oh M loved the photos especially the ones with Lorna grinning away and your snow dogs. Lorna is one of the best examples I know of how to turn lemons into lemonade. I so admire her spunk.

All you quilters here did you see the quilt photos M posted on FB? I fell madly in love with the butterfly one.

One of the best fashion statements I have seen down here is Warren running out in his underwear, rubber boots with a rifle. My sides were sore for a long time from laughing. Those *&$% deer were not going to get his corn without a fight.

Barb are you and Norm going out this weekend?

Dianne

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I love seeing the pics of your westies, M!!!!
Oh yes, I saw the butterfly pic! lol She tagged me on it!! I so love butterflies, and she knows it - Thank you, ~M~!

I'm embroidering a snowman for a lap quilt for a friend :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Afternoon everyone.

Dianne, you need to get more layers of clothing on when you go out, it is too cold for just your shorts.
Joyce, sorry to hear about your Sis. Will keep her in our prayers.

"M", that looks like a lot of cold snow.

It was 32 when we got up, but it is now 78. We drove to Mexico this morning, and got my crown installed. Tooth is all taken care of.

Lyndonville, NY

I was up from 3:30 when DH had to go to work early today. Finally drifted off a bit about 6:30 for a cat nap off and on.

Stomach hurts so badly. Meds not kicked in yet so I am eating bland, eating yogurt and babying myself a bit. This has been since Christmas things took a spiral from the vertigo to this. It can all leave!!!

Find myself trying to walk outside, the light hurts the eyes so badly, and I haven't taken a picture is so long. Cant see straight to focus....yes am on eye drops also.
Falling apart for sure!!

Love love love the pics.

Debbie

Excellent time line on your tooth LK.

Animal Planet channel is a free for a month hoping to attract one to pay extra for it. I am just on the verge of saying yes - there are some interesting shows on it. I will definitely watch the Puppy Bowl next weekend.

Well darn I just found out that I can't go back a page and check on a comment or 2 that someone made - I lose whatever reply I have started.. Guess I will have to make notes.

The TH is very tired this afternoon. They have been out playing in the snow and sliding on the ice by the house. I am always a little leery about letting them on the lake - I have a silly fear of the ice. Years ago I went though on a big swamp over a mile from the farm house. Figured if my 2 Samoyeds could cross the swamp side by side I would be safe. Nope - I should have realized their weight was displaced . Down I went. I had over a mile walk back to the house. By the time I got home my leggings were walking themselves.

Our plow guy hasn't come through yet. I can get out with my 4 wheel drive but there are a couple of others who only have cars.. I haven't even tried to go out as I don't need anything. When I was at PMH and Warren was here alone all week he went into the village every day. They laugh at me at IGA when I come through with multpliles pf OJ, milk etc. during the week. The usual comment is' Oh there is going to be a storm Dianne is stocking up'

Dianne .. same here re the NO GOING back .. ..
I think I didn't read about Joyce's sister .. wasssup?

OMG! Gord thinks nothing out hiking out the back door in his 'tighty whities' .. I keep saying .. what if the hydro or gas guy comes to read the meters .. he just laughs .. he doesn't go off the patio area though ..

Jeeze Debbie .. I sure hope you start to feel better .. I can imagine you have been checked for Fibromyalgia and/or Psoriatic Arthritis ?

Glad everyone liked the puppy pics, and, 'THAT LORNA".. never ceases to AMAZE us ...

Have a great melt going on .. it's 42F !!

Hello, hello...
Well I have been trying to post all day. poof...
Everyone has been visited but I don't know it just wont get past the post preview.
So I am giving up. lets see if this goes through.

Verona, ON

Woo hoo there's our Judy.

M Warren and I in the early 70's used to spend our summers at what we called The Shack on the Mississippi River just north of Almonte. Very secluded and there were rapids on 2 sides. My usual routine when I got up each morning was to run out and dive off the rock ( about a 20 -30 ft drop) I don't sleep in anything during the summer. Well you can imagine my surprise as I dove off the rock and there were 2 fishermen in a canoe right in my path. You can imagine the surprise on all our faces.

No melt here - it is cold.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh Dianne, that must have been a site. I know those fishermen got a surprise.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Wow - what a busy day here. I was busy working on a wall hanging but spent most of the day talking with Norm and trying to figure out a food list that emcompasses both of us. A lot of his foods are things I like also but many are not.

Right now I am getting set to watch and tape the Eagles special at 8 pm. It is on CNN and is part one (2 hrs.) and the part two (another 2 hrs) . We know we won't stay awake that long!!!

M what quilt pictures is Dianne referring to please? How do I become a friend on Facebook? I have a place there but don't know how to navigate very well. I loved the photos of the pups and Lorna!!! What devotion to make paths like that.....

Joyce keeping your sister in my prayers.....

Oh MY Dianne!!!!! I would have died right there and then!!!

Little bit of weather trivia I saw on the news last night. March 13 is when the time changes and also by then sunset will be at 6:49 pm. This 1 station's weather guy tells you how much longer for the sunset that night.

Debbie I hope you get some sleep tonight. Will Gravol or Benadryl work for you? Neither helps me sleep but they sure worked on Warren.

Sweet dreams everyone

Right you be Susan .. I just didn't navigate the page far enough down .. now I remember it's Joyce's Lisa that is having some health issues ..

Dianne .. yeowza .. but .. things like that do happen in the 'wilds'
I have been caught with my knickers down in the Boreal forest twice in the 50 years I have been hunting them .. once at 12 with my Mom and Dad .. and that was just a drive by encounter and, looking back, I doubt the other hunters saw anything, but, when you're 12, everything is a BIG DEAL !!!
The other was on a lone forestry road Gord and I had walked down for about 2 miles .. had had coffee, so, coffee in >>> coffee out .. middle of the bush, trust me I walked in off the UNUSED road into deeper foliage .. pulled my jeans down, assumed the position .. did my duty .. and heard someone 'CLEAR THEIR THROAT !!!!!!!!!!! Look UP, look WAY UP .. here was a fella sitting in a tree stand, all dressed in Camo .. he had obviously 'averted his gaze' while I answered nature's call .. and, felt he should make his where abouts known as he was coming down .. here, he knew Gord !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I do NOT piddle in the forest !!!
But, you did the 'WHOLE MONTY' Dianne .. YIKES LoL

Already 32F here .. roof is dripping water onto the patio and it is slick !!
As well .. yesterday when Lorna was putting away her Mule, we noticed a squirrel come OUT of the flashing on the top of the garage! Lil bugger has made a HOLE in it .. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .. steel wool time !!

Hoping my post goes

Good Morning!

awe, love the pictures, ohwah you sure have a lot of snow!! love the picture of the wee one running through the path, looks like they are in a luge! Oh No, I hope you get rid of that squirrel

Well I tried once again to post with my pre-typed page and again it did not take.
It weird, it copy's but when I hit reply it disappears and won't post. maybe I will try a new document and see what happens.

Oh my gosh, we are having nice temps, so I am thinking to get outside and clear winter debris. Unfortunately, it's been too cloudy to see the 5 planets aligned, phooey!

Linda Kay, so glad your tooth is fixed!!

Ohhh...finally got to JoAnnes, Going to finally work on a blanket for Lynn, she said she is sooo cold, caused from the Chemo. hmmm So I got 1 yard of three different fabrics. Hope to come up with something cool and quick!
oh also told to you in my post...I am sew, so excited. Guess who is getting her very own Sewing room!! Ahhh, I have never, ever had my very own room. Won't be until June, but I can start dreaming, right?

Ok better get coffee going. Enjoy the morning.

I too am chuckling at the stories!!! Oh what an image Love it!

I am in baking mode, and there fore covered in flour. Why can't I even
touch the stuff without looking like a snowman? ALong with blizzard in
kitchen, even poor dog has on his head.

Blackberry cobbler in the oven and having roasted chicken, mashed taters and broccoli & stuffing for dinner which I had frozen from holidays.

Snow melted for now but hear another front may come this way, depending which
way Dianne blows it.

Enjoy your day, stay warm and safe

Lazy day. I did manage a load of laundry so I have clothes for work tomorrow, but that's been the extent of my ambition for today. It just feels chilly and damp inside, mid 40's outside, but very wet. We had a little rain earlier, and with the last of the snow melting, there's standing water everywhere.

Verona, ON

Day quite doesn't know what to do.Everything is melting which I dread as tonight it will freeze. Supposedly rain and a deep freeze is on the way. Yuck.Debbie I will do my best to send this weather past you.

The TH are dragging their paws when I to try to go for a walk. When I turn to go home they blaze off - I find them sitting waiting at the side door.

Took advantage of the weather and got the deck cleaned off as well as the steps out front. Other than that while I should have used the dust mop or vac the floors I too have had a lazy day.

Debbie what time is dinner? It sounds delicious..

The boys are letting me know it is time to eat....

Streak and Sassy have been allowed to come upstairs again. I think Sassy gives Streak the 'stink eye' when he makes certain moves. I started this week to let them come upstairs in the evening. By about 3 am Sassy has gone downstairs and I carry Streak back down. Sassy loves the heat from the wood stove as does Duke. Last night around midnight I found them on the hearth stretched out with 1 paw each touching. Sassy misses Stormy - they slept together almost every night. With both of them being white it was hard to see where 1 ended and the other began

Was melty all day but cooler now and starting to snow...not be good on top of ice.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Looks as though we'll miss the storm, but,Karen, it's right on ya .. headed for Ottawa, which means it'll go Dianne's way ..

Deb .. I had a lazy day too .. same as you ..laundry and some tidying

Debbie .. Barb sent me a Betty Crocker pastry scraper as part of a Santa Warren a few years back .. man, do I LOVE that thing .. like you .. I am the personification of 'FLOUR POWER' LoL

Need some feedback/thoughts ... I would like to get a kitten .. I think it would help Lilly , she seems depressed since we had Smokey put down in October .. they were so close ..
DH is maintaining the ALOOF position .. Lorna is 50/50 ..
Kind ofa big decision with 3 dogs .. it'd have to be a HOUSE cat ..

Anyway, I'm tired, hands and neck are sore .. so .. bedtime!!

ttyl

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think a kitten would be nice to have as a playmate for Lily.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Getting a kitten would be a good way to add a cat to the mix.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning :-)

RABBIT RABBIT .. Happy February !!

Ongoing thinking about a kitten ... the PLUSES are many, but, so are the NON pluses .. ie .. litterbox cleaning, spaying or neutering, watching that it doesn't get outside into the wilds .. ongoing thinkatude happening :-)
Lilly's 9th BDay is coming up .. sooooooooooooooo ..

DH has eye docs apt at 8am .. Lorna has a blood test @ 11am .. and, I am staying HOME ..

Good morning all. Going to be busy today with finishing up the Mariner's compass. I love how they look but they are time consuming....

I was cat-less for almost a year when I broke down and got a kitten (actually 2, but I lost the boy at a year old, vet misdiagnosis, still don't know what happened). They were so cute, but unlike yours, my dogs are big, so, while I did introduce them, I couldn't leave 10 week old kittens out with the dogs. Time passes, the kittens were basically living in my bedroom, and even though they spent one on one time with dogs, couldn't manage the onslaught of the entire canine crew. Six large prey driven hounds are not a match for young kittens. Emily is now 5 years old and still lives in my bedroom. About a year after getting the kittens, my son had to move out of his apartment, and ended up in a place where he couldn't have cats, so his cat, Dexter came to live with me as a 5 year old. He'd never been around dogs before, but made himself at home, whacked a few dog noses, but wouldn't run from them. Nowadays, he's just one of the dogs, hangs out with them, sleeps with them, and best part for me, he's a great mouser!! I haven't seen traces of a mouse in the house since about 3 months after he arrived. It's not the right decision for everyone, but if I were to get another cat, I think I'd look more toward a young adult, rather than an baby kitten. The spay/neuter thing is usually done at that point, and they're more able to handle dog introductions. Of course for your situation, maybe a baby kitten would fit into your pack easier than an older cat.

Good luck with your decision. Like me, you've had a cat for so many years, yes, the litter box is a bother, but, they can be great companions.

Roads here were very icy this morning. I hit a patch of ice on the S curve coming into the industrial complex where I work, and the car did a nice little slide into the oncoming lane. Luckily it was early, so no traffic!!

Glenview, IL

Good Morning! Welcome February!!

M-Awe..Enjoy your day of thinkatude, lol love that.

Well, I finally took down the village and all the snowmen, so Christmas is officially over. whew, what a job re-organize all the Christmas decorations so they fit on the designated shelves! All the paperwork is done.
Today is cage cleaning, and Will start that blanket.

I hope you have a good morning.

Coffee anyone?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. We just have dogs here, but I know a lot of friends that have both, and have no problems.
Hey Judy, sounds like you have a list of things to do, and are staying busy.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Kitten we got for GD stayed upstairs for a long time but finally ventured down with the dogs. She was big enough to not take their guff. Now it's a matter od she harrasses the little dog & the big dog harrasses her but it's mostly just nose to nose for a few seconds and then they lose interest.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Getting the 'rolling eyeballs' from DH .. no real reason why NOT, only the claws in the eye situation ..

Have had as many as 5 cats at one time, helped a litter be born in my closet, watched 3 wee kittens melt the heart of an 80 pound Norwegian Elkhound who had also watched the birth .. ..
AND .. have had to say goodbye to many .. THAT part hurts !!

THINKATUDE is cranking along :-)

wow...what great story!!
I just love seeing the pictures of family pets like that on FB.
Yours would have been famous!!

Well, truth is I would love to have a dog, but DH is totally against it.
So I enjoy all your fluffers instead, and we do have the occasional visitor.

here is the material I got for the blanket, lol now what?
Joining your thinkatude for the day, lol.

Anyway, What kind of kitten are you thinking?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Hadn't even thought to ask that,Judy. My cats are just regular old alley cats, but my folks bred Siamese when I was a kid. My mom had a Cornish Rex and a Maine Coon Cat. The Maine Coon, even though an inside cat, would go outside with her dog, and come back in when called. Mom never let her outside unless she was there watching, though, but I had never seen a cat that was so obedient!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Judy I love those fabrics. What pattern are you using?

Glenview, IL

Hmmm, never heard of a Cornish Rex..I'll have to have a look see.
Love Simese, they are just beautiful.. When I was a kid, lived with some folks who had them. Blue Boy and Tony...one was so sweet and the other, lol quite the dickens.

OMG, we have the wild cats around here! yikes had the rude awakening with their yowling and howling the other morning! And they resemble those Maine coons, at least I think...
Oh I had a Calico kitten when I first got my own place. Had to give him up cause I couldn't afford to feed it. Gave him to a neighbor.

OH Linda Kay, Think I'm going to go with the block called Ribbons. Pattern in the Quilter Cache. it's 12" finished and I am thinking of incorporating some Wandering Stars...it's a good start also in QC. okie dokie then, off to iron fabric.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Judy, you have 'an eye' for colour and pattern .. I think this is going to a lovely piece.

TYPE of cat ..well ... one that 'meows' LoL
I like just plain ordinary Heinz 57 kitter pusses ..
Starting to lean more to the 'NO cat' side .. my heart about busted in half with Smokey. And, I did call an organization here called 'Kitty Kare', and, they really wanted me to take 2 kittens, brother and sister .. nope, couldn't do it ..
So, unless like Gord says, a pusser comes a wandering onto the property, we will remain a 3 dawg home ..

LK . 22 sleeps, or is it 21, I think 22, but, likely you won't be doing much sleeping the week before (butterflies)

OHMIGOSH .......

Forgot to letchas know that Gord's eye apt was NOT good !!
His pressure was up, and, the doc froze his eye and stuck a needle in it to unblock the opening that was made .. groddy huh?
Now it's a wait n see game til Friday..
