Best worse, what did I learn today, January 2016

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Judy so sorry to hear of your BIL's cancer, maybe it was a good thing he had to go to the hospital so they found it. My aunt lost one of her hearing aids, I know that's a bummer as they are so very expensive. Hubby is adjusting well to his. So happy he doesn't feel left out of conversations now.
Seems to be a lot of sinus infections going around, must be the weather.
Well Linda, sorry your date got changed, Is it in San Antonio? You'll need to go over night before .
I'm feeling better today. Heated up my rice bag and stayed cozy with it all last night.
We got about 6 more inches of snow last night.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you are feeling better Karen.

Yes, it is in San Antonio, we will go over the day before, have a good dinner, and get to the hospital early.

Verona, ON

Tooth is doing much better. It really got better when I realized I have to wait before my insurance will kick in. No it is really much better - I grind my teeth at night so I am wondering if I just aggravated it.

Managed to get the deck shoveled off - now the boys have a place to go if we can't get outside. Also got an extra wheel barrow full of wood right by the side door.I'm already if it freezes.

Judy sending extra prayers.for your BIL. With tests they will be able to find out what is the primary source of cancer.

Miss Liz it was so good to 'see' you pop in.

Susan sending you and Bob extra prayers too.

I should have invited someone for dinner - the house looks and smells amazing. Rottis are known for their flatulence . The good thing is I pretty much have lost my sense of smell due to all the soldering I have done.

Off to fold some clothes out of the dryer.

Dianne

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Diane my sister had great pain from grinding her teeth too. Her dentist told her he could get her an expensive mouth guard OR she could go to the sporting goods store and get one for very cheap. It worked great for her. You might be able to get them at drug stores too. I believe you heat them in hot water and then put in your mouth to form to your shape. Certainly worth a try.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Judy - sounds weird, but it was almost a blessing for him to have fallen and gone to the hospital...... so sorry to hear about his cancer. And for your MIL to have lost a hearing aid.... yikes! no idea where it might have been lost?

Karen - 6" of snow? that's a lot - hope you have a Snow Angel (neighbour?) shovelling for you. Heating pad is a good thing :-)

Betty - you out there still lurking? Miss you muches!!

Spoke to a lawyer today, who advised for us to be professional and organized. Also mentioned some things we should not say, so going to hold our tongue on those things, but also advised us on things we can mention if They do, OR if they seek another adjournment.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad your mouth is feeling better Dianne.

I use one of those mouth guards too. The dentist told me all my teeth are super sensitive to cold things because I grind my teeth at night. I can't stand to put anything cold in my mouth. Things have to be room temperature or warmer. I have been using sensodyne for months, but so far it is not helping.

Marietta, OH(Zone 6a)

prayers going out to all of you who are in pain or just need a gentle hug today. We all could use a hug now and then... they are good for the soul.
Linda, will be thinking of you on your surgery date, praying for a speedy recovery and rehab.
Judy, sorry to hear of your BIL's diagnosis. So hope that they can do something for him soon.
Dianne, we had German Shepherds years ago. Ex hubby used to make them a 'gruel' in the winters from my leftover ham or grease, oatmeal, cornmeal, etc. Almost looked like the Scrapple, but the dogs ate it up! Warmed them up too in those cold winters. We used to bring them in to sleep around the wood stove when it got real cold.. we figured the grease and such in the gruel contributed to the amount of gas those 4 dogs could emit. lol
Heat wave here today, about 40 degrees. Looks so drab outside now, compared to the last few days seeing a foot of snow and big drifts outside. So much of the sinus bug going around, doctor offices are full..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Wow we have been chatty today. That's wonderful.
I too send prayers Judy. And I thank heaven it was caught.
Glad to hear the tooth is calming a bit Dianne. It's been a long time since I had a toothache in any of the few I have left!!! LOL
How is the back doing today Karen? YOu have been on my mind.
Did I miss a post from Liz? I hope she pops in again so I can thank her again for the gift card she sent to my favorite quilt shop. Norm took me on Sunday and I sure did appreciate having it. Thank you Santa Warren!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Barb - how lovely of Liz to send you a gift card to a quilt shop!! Nothing like having some fabric between your fingers to cheer up a Fine Fabrics Connoisseur :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LK .. gawd, feel bad re your OR date being set back Linda, I know it's just 2 days, but, if you're like me, you're psyched .. at least it isn't outright cancelled !

Yikerdoodles .. a lost hearing aid .. $$$$$$ .. hope you find it ..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Todd and I bought a king size memory foam mattress about 8 years ago. If this one ever wears out we will buy another one.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Can't believe it - got to 50F today!! (maybe higher, but that would have been earlier in the day - wasn't until it started to cool down that I saw 50F!!)

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Working on quilt for new grandson. I am loving this pattern. Sticks and stones, from Missouri star quilt co.

Awesome, Thunder!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I really like that pattern! Nice job Thunder.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Felt much better today...well except for the 4 hours I was going round and round with Turbo Tax people. Only took 5 tries to finally get someone with some common sense.BEWARE if you are using them, this year you also need your email addy so they can send you a link to get checked in. My problem? When I started with them would you believe my email was @aol.com? Hasn't been that in three forevers. All I had to do was change it to my current one. First 4 people I talked to had no clue.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We never do our taxes online.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I spent the majority of the day resting from my marathon cleaning.

As far as taking care of the downed limbs. I would tackle that project 1/2 hour at a time, or break it down into sections. I am doing that on my front landscape. Going to do a section of it at a time. One part of the day, the sun moves across different areas of the front landscape. I will just try to follow the sun and stay in. This time of year, I need to stay warmer and not get chilled. Not worried about a cold, just do not want the old bones to get achy.

Vern had blood test tomorrow, I have nail appointment on Thursday and a masseuse is coming by the house Friday for my achy breaky body. She is doing the lady next door, so texted me and see if I wanted her an hour earlier. She did not have to ask me twice.

Marilyn, I remember Swiss Chalet. They have wonderful food.

Karen, so happy you are feeling better.

Susan, I think your tenants are professionals at this situation and have probably done the same thing to other landlords. Just be glad they are paying their rent. They seem to be very troubled individuals and really need our prayers.

Thunder, that quilt is beautiful. That is a lot of work.

Linda, that sucks that your appointment was moved 2 days later. At least they did that before you drove all the way there and then they cancelled.

There are many different mattresses. The majority are made by the same factories and they just put the sellers name on them. I have been told you should never buy a mattress you have not laid on and tried out. Mattress salesmen and like used car salesmen. If their mouth is moving, they are lying....Ask Google how you can tell if a mattress is any good or not.

Judy, my brother found his kidney cancer because he fell and hit the kidney. Started having blood in his urine. They removed the kidney and cancer soon afterward. That was over 10 years ago. He tells everyone God pushed him in the ditch. He has had bladder cancer about 10 times but so far thy fine it and scrap it off. They check him every 4 months. When he thinks he will be able to move to every 6 months, it will show up again. He smoked and his oncologist tells him his type of cancer is caused by smoking. Give your BIL a big hug from us.

My mother lost her hearing aide when she was in assisted living. Found it about 3 weeks later. She had thrown it at a nurse and they finally called me to let me know they had it. I was there to see her every day for about 7 hours a day. She was there just under 5 months and if I was not there she had to be in "crazy" person area. So I got there just in time for her lunch and left when she was put to bed. That was an education of the sadness of assisted living. Sadness for everyone. Employees hate their jobs, turn over is high, patients do not want to be there and the majority of family just puts there loved ones there and walk away. Vern was well at that time so I only had to worry about my mother.

Barb, you are happy about your fabric store gift card. I would be happy to see a Home Depot.

Diane, hopefully you will not be needing the extra wood. So happy your tooth is feeling better. Nothing worse than a toothache. I have not had one in a long time but they are hard to forget.

I saw on the news tonight they want to turn off Niagara Falls on the state side so they can repair two old bridges. Canada will get the water. That would be fascinating how they turn off the water. Must be a dam system.

Deb, how are you feeling.

Marilyn, Step-daughter only had 2 hours to stop by to see her Dad. Was a blessing for me. I still do not think he understands that she was here 3 days and I am not going to help him figure it out. Better he not know.

It is that time for my going to bed schedule. I have folded clothes to put away.

It felt so good to go outside this morning, through the garage and see it all clean.

See you all tomorrow. Hugs, Sharon

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

No I don't either - I pay a retired accountant friend of mine $10 to do ours.

Verona, ON

Morning everyone. It is still more than chilly but mind you I only had a hoodie, hat and work gloves on. I hauled in more wood to the door and the pups played around. Chaos discovered if he ran hard enough he could slide a few feet. The look on his face was just delightful.

Did the ashes first before the boys went outside to play. A wood stove leaves a lot of dust behind.

M where are you? You are usually up and attem by now. I hope that this means you are sleeping in a bit. It's not as if you've been busy oh the last month or two. I would rather have the tired I feel from a good days hard work than the stress I have had in the past,

Thunder I love the quilt. I think of you every day when I see your Kitchen Angel hanging out with me in the kitchen and dining room - all1 room.

Glenview, IL

Hi
Thank you all for thoughts and prayers.
I continue to ask, well I guess now that BIL, Kenny be comfortable until his time comes.

He is in stage 4 and is refusing any chemo. Doctors giving him a few weeks. Laurie and his sister are looking into Hospice...

The kids are going to help Grandma today. I hope they find the missing hearing aid..

Thunder! Wow, a gorgeous quilt!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've been doing my own taxes most of the time. I had an accountant when we first got the rental. But as soon as I could do them online, I made that switch. It's been quick and easy every year until now. I understand they have to do more to be secure these days, but it was a pain in the patoot until I got hold of the voice of reason. Done now and filed so it's out of my hair.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I usually do my own taxes online, too. I know there was talk of extra security, but didn't know what they were doing to ensure that. I'm still waiting for all my documentation, so haven't even looked at starting taxes, yet.
My subscription is up at the end of the week. Still debating about renewing, but probably will. I'm really happy to see this thread a bit more active like it has the past couple days, this thread is really the only reason I'm here!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.

Dianne, I can just see those dogs running and sliding! :)

Judy, sorry to hear his cancer is so advanced. Keeping him in our prayers.

Sharon, sounds like you have been and stay busy at your place. Don't over do it with those limbs in the yard. Get some help. Enjoy that massage!

Betty, how are you doing? Do you have your plowman hired this year to keep your driveway clear?

Verona, ON

It's Chocolate Cake Day ladies.I think that means it doesn't have any calories day.
D

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

HAhahaahah .. soon as you bite into a piece of chocolate ANYTHING .. half the calories are gone, so, BRING IT ON ..

Dianne .. I 'slept in til 6:15am .. then each dog took their dear sweet time rising and going out .. ONE at a TIME .. by about 6:45am I was about ready to CRACK !!
And then .. the sunrise started .. and I just had to sit n watch and take a pic or 2 out the east window .. WOWSERS .. blew me away .. made myself a memory fer sure ..
Our ash box will be filled and taken out today .. we burn ASH wood, and, know where it gets its name !
Have only about 70% birch this year.

Sharon .. love reading your posts .. you and Judy keep me riveted ..
Sharon .. your DIL and mine should meet .. have no use for her whatsoever .. bottom line .. she LIES, and I can't handle that ..

Judy .. for heavens sake .. what a predicament for Kenny ..
I can see his wishes for no chemo .. stage 4 cancer is serious ..
Will keep you all in my prayers ..

Thunder .. absolutely fabulous quilt !! Talk about colourful .. :-)

Did our taxes online last year .. mine went through just fine, DH .. noppers .. called, got the run around from Turbo tax .. ended up putting all the paperwork in an envelope and sending it to Revenue Canada with a letter explaining what had happened .. they did it !

We have I C E here, have to get out and look in the totes (like Betty), fo the bag of UREA I bought last year .. safe for the dogs and the patio .. have been using sand, but, the dogs just track it back in ..

HUGS all around ..
ENjoy your day ..

Beautiful sun rise "M".

Lyndonville, NY

I just saw the "It's chocolate cake day" and went to look in pantry. I think I need a road trip.

I have on my sweats today and a heating pad, might have to have DH make a stop on way home.

Thinking of you all, trying to keep in touch and keep up.....

Prayers to all,
Stay safe

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I was closer to bring you that cake!

Lyndonville, NY

Yes, as you know and read, I really need it right now. Well, my backside doesn't....but the comfort food part sure does.

Thank you

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Judy - how very stressful a time for the family right now - praying for Kenny's peace & comfort. I do hope that hospice can be found for him, quickly. Prayers being sent heavenward for all concerned.

Hearing is tomorrow, and I have paperwork to put together........ have to be professional and prepared........

Betty - where oh where art though?

Marietta, OH(Zone 6a)

I used TurboTax for 10 yrs, never had a problem, everything was direct deposit. Before that, we used H&R Block. Now back to H&R, as that's who Hubby and Dad went to previously. I don't really care for paying the fees, but more for the peace of mind that comes with it.
So sorry to hear of BIL's situation, Judy. I've had many friends who have turned down chemo, as they just didn't want to go thru the process. Often wondered myself what decision I would make if it ever comes to that. I suppose it would have to depend on what stage and type of cancer. Prayers and hugs to you all..
Cleaning the sewing room, I ran across fabrics that I haven't seen for ages, well, a few years, since I only started 'stashing' 7 yrs ago..lol Problem is, I start dreaming of what I can do with it, slowing down my cleaning process! Gotta keep moving if I ever expect to get to the baseboards!

Verona, ON

Warren opted for radiation for pain control but a resounding no to chemo.A couple of months in he decided he would try 1 round of chemo. Had a chair booked, was going to have his port put in and the Oncologist said No can't do it. W a few years earlier went into kidney failure - that was caused by a blood pressure med.

It is absolutely gorgeous outside today. The Thundering Herd are having a blast sliding around on the ice.

Stay safe and warm everyone
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, you need to get pictures of the thundering heard on the ice.

Verona, ON

I have created 3 crazy boys. I was really missing my guy today so when I was at the grocery store I picked up Warren's favourite treat - the big, fluffy cheetos . The pups had never had them before and I hadn't bought any since Warren died. The look on their faces was priceless - their eyes lit up after having 1 and the next thing I knew I had 3 sets of eyes focused on the bowl they were in. Duke was looking at Diesel and Chaos like 'don't mess this up , be good'.

What a glorious sunrise M. I have ice here too. The luge run has reared its ugly head on the lane. I get something at Pet Smart to put on the steps that the boys use.Diesel needs a refresher course in how to bring chunks of wood into the house. He's confused I think because I am loading the wheel barrow with blocks of wood and wheeling that to the door.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers Susan that tomorrow goes well for you and Bob.

Barb and Karen what are you 2 up to today?

D

Lyndonville, NY

Dianne, Sammy loves Cheetos also, any kind of them. And so does Axl, for a cat, he just licks cheese off and runs.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well we all have pets with CHEETOS in common .. my little pack goes looney for them ..

Susan .. am hoping to go to a Memorial Mass tonight, out here in the sticks, for a friends Mom .. I will keep you in my prayers .. I'll keep everyone else in them too .. but, particularly you and Judy's Kenny ..

We are in the midst of a pretty significant blizzard .. expecting perhaps 10" .. if the roads to the church are treacherous, I won't hazard the drive .. I don't like DH driving at night yet, and Lorna has taken her leg off as she wants to be out ploughing early tomorrow ..
I could drive either 4x4, but, prefer not to ..

Feel kinda punky .. not sure why .. have some 'heart flutters'. .. probably TIRED !!
Anyone who reads my FBook may have seen the little video cartoon on there today about the woman trying to find a space on the bed! TOTALLY me !!!!!!!!!!

TTFN

~M~

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I want to see a picture of the Thundering Herd on the ice - told Bob about it, and he laughed - he's picturing it lol

Marilyn - thank you for your thoughts and prayers....... appreciate it :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

"M", please don't ignore those heart flutters.

Verona, ON

Listen to LK M. You would be the first 1 to urge us to do something about them if we had them. You've had so much on your plate M for quite awhile. Maybe it is just your body's way of saying slow down a bit M.

The Thundering Herd are all flaked out from their sliding on ice plus the Cheeto treats. I have had to put the Cheetos on the top shelf with the door closed. I caught Duke crouched down with Chaos on his back trying to get the bag of Cheetos.

Everybody enjoying the sun setting later each day? There is a news channel I sometimes listen to and each day they announce how much longer daylight is...

Thank you Sharon for sending me sleep angels. I will look for them again tonight.
