Status of fixes and to-dos as of January 15

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I agree meezersfive. I don't know all the explanations either but I do now it allows them to access all your information, contacts, etc.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Anything FB thru whatever link already has your info, it can be adjusted thru your sites. Since I DO deal with the total lack of privacy today, I am aware of this you guys aren't yet forced to acknowledge. I missed the Calif techs, but thot I had seen a msg from admin saying they weren't handy by a long shot. Admin doesn't post everything constantly- they post once with what they are told. Then if the internet techs keep to their program, things work. The original site was SOLD long years past when it was 'gardeners for and with gardeners' and was ONLY a USA site. We are way past those days and ways.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Not THAT many are paying members,

Once there was info on how many actual subscribers there were in the forums...pitifully small.

I am fully comfortable with searching FB. There were several options...I thought perhaps the folks here who could not converse on DG because it was nonfunctional had started a FB community. THAT'S what I was looking for.

California or overseas...what does it matter... This is 2016. the communication is just as quick.

I actually don't have a lot of time on my hands and as one of 14 children ---- no instant gratification expected.

And yes, we agree...the changes are usually a shock. That is the point. The song being sung is the same North, South, East, West..... how about giving us a head's up??

How about communication?

If there is a FB site....put it there. Send an email to subscribers - or all members if their email addresses are known........it can be done...

the notice that the renewal fee is due comes like clockwork ---ahead of time.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I know a few FB members who use their own site and share with each other, but those are private normally. Then there is the main FB site. Shrug. I go a lot of places that wont let me have internet nor even phone access- satellites or no. Accustomed myself long ago to having only me to rely on... adore my friends of the site, wasnt comfy on the free one when it showed up, but do have a Plant ID FB site I watch as well.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Tell me about it. There is a spot about 500 yards up my drive and along the road to leave our small development that runs maybe 100 yards ( dead zone ) where all service is lost. Like a black hole for communications....I wonder is it that huge sycamore? My son told me he was on the way to scranton ...some back way ....and there was no service for 2 hours. But all things being equal whether across the country or over the sea -- that should not prove to be an issue. I have had folks in india working my / taking over my computer in front of my eyes and response was as quick as if they were sitting next to me.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

They were and have! The black holes of svc are caused by tower not overlapping- hvy iron in the ground, and not being near a constantly hi traveled hwy, or being in LaCrosse, Wis area nowhere near the city, chuckl. Storms in the south when sats are down that way, too. My guess is our 'techs' bit off more than they were prepared for...

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Well, I figure I can always walk down the drive and a little ways up that road...be greeted by a pack of four fur-flyin mutts (who must live up the road and a ways over but guard this one zealously) who know there is a biscuit waiting in my pockets...greet that old sycamore ....and hide out from the world a bit. LOL Robinsheena!

Where the techs or Admin are located relative to my location have to do with the hours of operation of each. The techs in California may not have even started work while I have finished lunch! If T and M work flex hours from home/telecommute this complicates a 'timely' response. (I remember asking if the Birthdays notice box could be put up earlier so that when I log in at 6 am EST I can see who I should send B'Day greetings rather than find out at the end of my day (EST) that I have almost missed someone's special day.)

I'm assuming that since today is Sat and Mon is a National Holiday, that there will be no work or communication from techs or Admin until sometime Tues.

Terry Has the Group Blast feature of dmail been restored? If not, can you add it to your list? Thankyou.

I'm just mentioning it here so I don't clutter up someone's Dmail; the Accessible Gardening Forum has had all posts gearing in bold and Italics for a day or two now. It's actually easier to read but impossible to emphasize. So if you try to say this it comes out like this.

Yeah, but if the "technicians" are OUT of the good ole US of A............the Monday holiday shouldn't even come close to affecting THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!................and they should be able to work on some of this mess.

Quote from HollyAnnS :
Techs are based in California. Can't remember which city but Melody post that when the ?? came up a couple of weeks ago.

In one message Terry said, " ...feel I should point out that while there's absolutely nothing wrong with having people in India (or any other country) work on a website, our techs are in California, at Internet Brand's main headquarters. Not sure where that misinformation came from, but it wasn't true two years ago and it isn't true now :-)."

In case it matters, Internet Brands' headquarters is located at 909 North Sepulveda Blvd, El Segundo, California. That is definitely not in India.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Good point Anna !
Evidently where ever they are truly located they have been at work because this Forum's posts are now em Boldened now too, along with those Carrie mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, at least that is how this message appears in preview!

Bold and italicized is all I can post. What's up with that???

I used to belong to a forum, where if someone forgot to close an HTML tag in their post, it messed up the whole forum. It does not look like you closed your tag based on the preview of your quote, so I will see if that is the case here by putting in the closing tags.

Now this should be back to standard text. And according to my preview... yes, it worked.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

It shows as regular type in my preview but then ends up like this when I post. Weird.

(Zone 5a)

Fooey! In preview it looked as I expected.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yep. :(

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

At least it is much easier on the eyes to read!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Agreed!

(Zone 5a)

Trying something else. I started this post using the bold and italic tags and will close them.

Will this help?

We shall see when this posts.

Edited to say: It was a simple idea that didn't seem to have any effect. I don't like using capitol letters for emphasis, but this may be all that can be done for now.

I took a screen shot so you can see what I saw in my message box. Carrie, did you close the tags or did the system make them disappear? I hope the problem can be pinpointed.

Regarding Monday, some businesses (non-government) give the employees the day off, but others don't. So maybe the techs will be here.

This is the phone # for Internet Brands and a link for contacting them about customer service matters for any of their websites:
310-280-4000

http://www.internetbrands.com/contact-us/

I have contacted IB through their contact page and I called and left a message. No response at all.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

If they were simply helping a program work on one computer, it might be simpler than this whole new program writing...then again, this might be the whole shmoo - ? Just trials to test preferences left now?

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

It IS a lot easier on the eyes.....

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

never mind....

communication could be this easy....

the company I use as a host site sends me emails when they will be "down" for maintenance and I also get emails from the tax service where i work.

Even FedEx does it as a banner.

Looks like this is the only forum with screwed up printing.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

i would assume that if the original message was edited to remove or close the coding tags, it all would go away - back to normal.

and it does not show up in preview or if you view the single post.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Easier to read than most of the forums, though!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Maybe I'm just losing my mind but this is starting to make me laugh.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

That is exactly what I was thinking.....it's like a comedy of errors. Why is this only happening on this thread?

While stuff is supposedly getting "fixed" we can't post, then the link to this thread takes us someplace else....now this. If there are any new subscribers they must think we are all nuts.

Does anyone know what "gardens.com" is? It seems to link to the articles for DG, and to Plantfiles. And it also seems to be part of Internet Brands. Is the plan actually to just eliminate the discussion forums?

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I haven't read ALL the posts, so perhaps this has been mentioned, but I am having trouble getting back to the posts after viewing pictures. Sometimes there is no "back to post" at all, and only the option to keep cycling through the pictures. Sometimes when there is a "back to post" link, it instead takes me to that poster's Member page.

And now sometimes when I click on "back to post" it takes me to a Plant Identification Discussion. This is beyond frustrating.

Weedwhacker, I think Gardens.com is another site owned by Internet Brands.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I must admit , I DO like this boldface print. It is so much easier to read/see. As far as I am concerned, they could keep this "glitch".

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I like the glitch trial! Great for lighted backgrounds in lo light. It isn't a new issue, I have always bumped into it thru the years...the italics seem to help fast read as well...caps will work for emphasis as I use that method anyway.
I have always had problems with pix with 'NO back to post' in assorted threads. I use the links above the pix that list forum and thread to return to the place I wanted to read on, tho.

Quote from 1lisac :
First the site goes down for 2 days then the link on the locked thread doesn't work? It makes DG look stupid. I loved this site and the people on it but I don't know how much more I can take....when admin locks a thread then posts a link that doesn't work???. There are other sites out there they can't possible be this frustrating.

I'm with you, if the people that run this site get paid they need to be fired. this is a complete mess. There was no reason to change this site, it was FINE the way it was.

Well come October (if I'm still here then) I may not renew my membership. This isn't acceptable IMHO.
