Status of Updates and Fixes (New as of 12-23-2015)

I also have had post disappear. I don't use any symbols. Point is we shouldn't have to spend time trying to figure out how to make it work. If you have to go through all kind of steps just to make a simple post it's just not worth it to be me.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Terese: Ah ha! I did use a double hyphen and thus created the same situation you experienced. .I'll try it again. Thanks for the hint!

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Terese - that was it! I removed the hyphens and the post went through.

Nuts, I haven't even tried to get to forums I'm not "watching" so you are right my method won't work. Lol

June, I agree I don't understand why we have to click watch on a thread we have posted on. That doesn't happen on all threads, I don't think. I think that's my biggest issue with the new DG....I don't know what is a glitch and what is just new. Issues seem to vary from thread to thread.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Keep in mind this "makeover" site is still under serious repair to various glitches and things that don't work flawlessly on the vast number of brands and varieties of devices now available. Many of us began using Dave's Garden when the available devices were a desktop PC or a MAC!

In the past I have on rare occasions posted just once in a thread not normally watched or intended to be watched again. There was always at line at the very top of the page back then that said "Watch This Thread". If I didn't click on that I never saw that thread again on my Watched Threads list. Just posting in a thread not previously selected as "Watch This Thread" has never, to my knowledge, automatically put it on your watch list. Watching and later having the option to Unwatch have always been choices. Terry can correct me if I'm wrong on this. ;-)

Quotations still trigger the backslash for me.

June -- any time I posted in a thread, it automatically added it to my "watch list". I, like you, sometimes did not intent to keep track of the thread, so I would just "unwatch" it using the button for it. But it "always" added them to the watch list.

Currently, I have to click the "watch" even if I add to the thread, and sometimes I forget -- so I get "lost" and lose the thread because it will not pop back up, and since my main "home page" is not updating... still showing 12/9/15 or earlier as Latest Post. Guess it's just an annoyance as I generally do not regularly "follow" all the forums in my "favorites", only peek in when i see a new post -- which is never now.

The birthday forum has not updated since December 9th, and we use it daily.

Same here.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Cville_Gardener - My current Home Page is updating properly for the very few threads that I follow. I do refresh the page often if that makes a difference. However I have a short list of seriously old threads below that showing as active for me although some I've never heard of, much less posted in. They are not doing any harm so I let them sit there! I'm afraid if I start going in and unwatching stuff everything will go kafloofy.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

June -- do you use a Mac? I was thinking you were an Apple fan. Maybe that is one of the reasons we have different things going on, or not going on. I did the refresh twice, all my on my home page are still Dec 9th or earlier for forum updated threads.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

My only Mac device is my IPad. Desktop and laptop are both PCs, both using WIN7. My spouse is a techie so everything is kept current. I do clear out History several times a day because I do a lot on my desktop and History piles up.

June, on my home page I have the threads I am watching and posting on. Under that is the list of forums I am watching such as Pets. I am not necessarily watching a certain thread but the forums show up.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Even on my cellphone, Home Page shows Dec8-9, doesn't show posts to that forum refreshing at all. Above that my threads I am watching Do show up when posted to. Below the watch list, the lower threads with new posts on them from ALL of the forums ARE updating. It may be because the 'watched' forums that were changed are just a list of forums now? Its a reversal it seems of how the activity should be showing up.

Elsie, do your forums you are watching show "yes" for when threads update? My home page with my watched forums doesn't show any more recent dates later than Dec 9. When I click on the forum itself I can see new threads but I liked being able to quickly see if someone had posted a new thread.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

They are working on the Homepage. The forums will not update on the homepage until they are ready, it doesnt matter how many times you refresh, It makes no difference what device/browser you are using. Admin suggests going to the "forums" page, but says it is slow to load. I have yet to get it to load....it's easier for me to click on the forum on my homepage and see if there are updates.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

These issues are discussed in the first post of this thread.

I was only replying about June's post about watched threads and old watched threads. I am going to guess they are watched forums, none of which are showing updates.

Terry, if I may suggest they a new update thread is started with some new info on when these fixes might actually get fixed. Also maybe have the other threads about the update closed to more posts with a link to the new thread or at least this one. There are quite a few threads regarding the updates.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I didn't mean to direct that reply to anyone in particular. According to what I've read the forums, on the homepage, arent going to update after Dec 9th, they will update when the "new" homepage is introduced.

I agree with Elsie. We need to simplify to a single new thread.

Have any of you that entered and won Photo Contest Categories received your 2016 Calendars yet? I'm trying to determine if everyone is still waiting on theirs or if mine just got lost in the mail. I'm still waiting on a response to my D-mails.

I know Terry is swamped with all the problems and glitches from the site changes so I hate to even bring it up, but it's almost mid-January.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I watch very few threads nowadays. Just for the people.
I forgot where one was located -- was combined with another and lost the map.

When I tried to go to " my info " and view the posts I've made or Threads I am watching...,,it would not load either...

This was several days running. Today, the "Threads I am Watching" loads but not the "Posts I've Made"

Also, when I Look at an updated post via notification on my home page, in the past the next time I go to DG...that notification of an updated thread will have disappeared. Not so now. When I click on it, it is thesame update I read from previous visits.

I am using Ipad Air.

This is not going well.
I find that the green vs blue for the thread titles, to alert me as to which ones have new posts, are not changing color reliably, and the threads I have posted to are not always coming up in my thread watcher. The forum watcher is still not fixed either.
I have been very patient (I think) for bug fixes to occur. It has been a long time-I think the owners need to be warned-I and a lot of other DG members are now spending more time on the other competing website. I keep checking in to see if these issues have been resolved, but no luck. Soon I will not be bothering to check anymore. Too bad, I liked DG, once I had it figured out it seemed pretty easy to use. I miss the Plant ID forum, but it is just too annoying to use anymore.
Are these problems not considered bugs? They are really annoying. Better to pay overtime to the programmers, and get this stuff dealt with, or this website will disappear for lack of paying members.

Cville, I apologize if I've asked you this before, but are you using the double quotes (actually the inch marks) on your keyboard, or are you using "true" actual double quotes, which are rounder and have a dot at the end?

Some people prefer to use the true typeset quote marks, but they are not standard on a PC or Mac keyboard. There is a keystroke sequence you can use to invoke them. But that may trigger this issue. Or if you happen to have a keyboard that is configured to create true single/double quote marks, that could be the reason for this phenomenon, because you're the only one reporting the issue with the double quotes still showing up. That makes me think it's isolated to something you may be doing, or the way your keyboard is configured.

I will apologize for the delay on the calendars on behalf of our staff. Alison is our contact at IB who is responsible for ordering and mailing the calendars. Late last year, she had a sudden and very serious health issue she was dealing with and was not able to get them ordered or sent out. As of last week, she indicated the calendars have been bulk mailed to her and she's working on getting them all sent out. I will confirm with her on Wednesday that they've been mailed.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm using the double quotes but that's what I've used all along and haven't had a problem with that. I'm using a PC and Chrome. However, I think the issue has resolved finally.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

As far as being "the only one reporting this" I doubt that a lot of people are reporting anything so that could be a moot point.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

that other thread "Problem" that was just locked... It had popped up in my "Watcher" and I could not get rid of it on my home page. Clicked it 3 times to get it to go away, as i've read the whole thread.... Had to "unwatch" it - obviously if it is "locked" there will be no more posts.

Just did not know if this is another glitch... if a post is locked, something "new" happened so it will show up in the "watcher" but ya can't get rid of it without unwatching the thread.

~~ As a test, i clicked "watch" again, and it is now back in my Thread Watcher, even though it's been read.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Terry ~ Thanks so much for following up on the calendars! As I said in my post, I really hated to bother you with it, but since no one else asked about it I thought maybe mine just got lost in the mail.

I hope everything is okay with Alison now and she's feeling better.

Thanks again for all you guys do!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Ah, so that's it. I have to un watch to get it to go away....

But then I got to find it again....to watch it ....don't cha know....

But then I forget what it was ....that I wanted to watch...

Or, I forget where it has been moved to....where it lives....

And, my old solution ..to look at my "threads I've been watching" or "posts I've made' don't load reliably.......or...well...I've unwatched it...haven't I? To make it go away and all that....

A dilemma.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

C'ville has the first long mt post I have seen since the change- even her 'read more/less' is at the posts bottom. Chuckl.

She is better, thanks :-). Sorry again for the delay...it certainly was a confusing and bumpy holiday season for all of us!

Terry,

it is the thread entitled Problem.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1411088/

If I'm "watching" it, it will not leave the "watched threads" up top.

very weird.... in the post above there are no backslashes visible, but if you click on the image to see the post with the image, there they are with the double quotes.

Terry, has anyone mentioned the photos posting sideways?

Are there any updates as to when some of these issues will be fixed?

Are they going to remove the "updated threads" at the bottom of the page?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

elsie, the only time i have an issue with images posting sideways is when I upload them from my phone, this happened before the upgrade - that i do recall. If i do it from the computer I do not have that issue. It would be nice if that was corrected too though.

I am assuming Bonnie has it happen from her phone too, as she had a bunch one time.

Terese, I didn't know that. thanks.

1. We know the Home page is not syncing properly. Do you see that same thread if you go here? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/

2. Also, I'm going to "fiddle" with the administrative access to thread - can you tell me if it continues to show up on your home page?

3. Is the thread titled "Problems" showing up for others on your Home page, too?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Later today, we are scheduled for a release that *should* fix the following:

1. Skip to new should take you to the newest post you haven't read.

2. Auto-watch should work without having to manually add a thread to your list. I'm not sure if it will sync up on your home pages correctly yet - they are working on the home page issues separately.

We should start seeing a release with fixes/changes at least once a week until we get these cleared up. Once today's release rolls out, I will start a new thread in this forum with the outstanding issues and keep it updated with the status of each issue. I will also be locking all other threads in this forum, and pointing everyone to the new thread. It makes it a lot easier for all of us to follow one active thread to report problems and communicate their status.
