Best worse, what did I learn today, winter chat

Hiya ..

Was up and froofed and on the road by 8am this morning .. had grocery shopping to do, get a Dawn to Dusk light for our driveway, have coffee, and, come home!

gotta tell ya .. I am POOPED .. seems I have been going non stop since the beginning of November . .. with no end in site until after Gord's surgery . ,,, counting on your thoughts and prayers, but, I already know you will be with us ..

Do any of you remember waaay back when DG first started and we all moved over to DG. It is not as clear in my mind what as it should be but I do remember being sent to Disney In fact several of us got sent to Disney.(forget the name of that site. Guy was called Spike)

I'll be here. I think everybody should just cool their jets for awhile and see how this site pans out. I have made some strong friendships here that I know will always be with me.

We fly east on January 11 .. surgery is January 12 at noon .. he sees the doc again on Jan.13 .. Jan. 14 is a free day .. back to see the doc on the 15th with hopes to be going home that evening .. I have a flight booked :-)

Dianne .. I hear ya re this site .. I am here daily .. just way too many ties that bind .. and, I am kind of careful with friendships .. I like to nurture them ..
Yes I am over on ATP .. but not that much .. still trading lightly there as I don't know the various people and their nuances ..

Morning everyone. Really foggy here this morning. The light frost the past few days has done a number on the roses, so it will be time to trim them back.

Betty, what are you doing for New Years?

We are going out this afternoon to but fireworks, then we will fire them off at midnight.

Woke up to all ice covered here this morning. Had to call the landlord for a friend who lives upstairs. The walkway was so slippery he was afraid to move. He is in his late 70s and has bad legs so I sure understood. From my window, which I look out of whenever I am at the computer, I watched him try to shuffle. So I opened the window and told him not to try to move and the landlord's helper came and helped him to the door and then spread the ice melt. John was very grateful I saw him struggling and did something about it. I guess this has happened before to him with nobody helping.... Scary thought....

We will have a quiet New Year's eve here. Sean is visiting with us and we were laughing about him spending the evening with the "old folks"....He is such a schmooze - said this is where he wanted to be- LOL Actually, Mom and Dad went away for the weekend!!!

Glad you called the landlord Barb. A fall for anyone on the ice can be bad.

Best Worst & Learn garden gate was, and is open to all who want to continue gathering/lurking. I am smiling and I hope Betty is too that all of us who are staying to continue sharing our lives and most important our love. BW&L open to all who want to come and chat a awhile.

Reminiscing can make the heart a bit sad .. I guess I am a 'POLLYANNA' in some ways, never thinking of that word 'CHANGE" .. and, when it happens, well, throws ya for a loop .. especially losing a good friend like Betty .. that part of the change is saddening
We pretty much know the ins and outs and intricacies of each others lives .. children who are making us sad, relatives who are unwell, trips being taken, health issues .. well .. y'all know what I mean .. we have bonded, in such a good , and, for lack of a better explanation, SAFE way ..
I am signed on til August .. like Dianne, I am going to let this pot simmer til then .. I figure it'll either boil over, OR, it will make a wonderful sauce to cover us all and make the happiness return ..

Oh M you have made me so wish I could have our TO Chinese restaurant here in the village. Wouldn't that cause a stir ??

Just had a call from a friend in Shanghi - he wanted to tell me how much he is going to miss our New Years Eve tradition of making Chinese food right here in our kitchen. Warren made a killer egg roll.. Last 2 years he was in Egypt so we haven't done it since Warren died.

Well Chaos just freaked the other two big time. I am still laughing. I was changing the sheets and somehow Chaos got himself wrapped up in it with just his eyes not covered. He ran around like a fool going up to Diesel then Duke and barking.Probably 1 of those things you have to see.but I so needed the laugh.

Calling for more freezing rain later this afternoon. I made sure the steps outside were shoveled.ready for another onslaught if ice.

Post Mistress really made a terrible mistake... I felt so sorry for her. She gave a large, heavy parcel that I was coming in to pick up. No parcel but my computer and her's said waiting in the PO for me. Steve was going to pick it up for me yesterday but didn't. So we thought maybe he had it in his truck.I texted him and he didn't stop. So where is my box ??? I came home and I was just in the door when Sharon called me to tell me she has it in the post office.. So I crated the pups again and went back into the village. Turns out she gave it to someone
else It was heavy but she was determined she was going to carry it out to the Escape. She gave me a big hug and said thank goodness it was you and not someone else. I thought she was going to cry.

Hoping I will be asleep at midnight after 1 hours sleep last night so Happy New Year everyone here in my DG family.

I did the 2016 calendar today .. gosh .. Lilly will be 9 in Feb, Zoey will be 8, and, wee Piper will be 6 in May .. sobering thoughts .. guess I think of them as being ageless ..

The Chinese food was scrumptious .. as always, we ate more than we should have .. feel a bit bloated.
Lorna bought me a SodaStream for Christmas as I like 'fuzzy water' .. it's a machine that carbonates plain water, you can add flavours if you want .. but, I SUPER carbonated the bottle, fills ya right up .. so good though :-)

There is a custom in Wales that my mom continued at our home. The first person who comes into the house after midnight must have dark hair. My BF filled that bill for several years. Also whatever door the person entered the house they must go out another door. Don would come through the back door and leave via the front door. Maybe I will send Diesel out the front door and call him in by the side door. There is something else mom used to do but I can't remember it.

Mine used to pray the four of us kids would settle down and go to sleep!!!!! No special New Year's traditions that I can remember other than staying up to listen to Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians bring in the new year. We would hide on the stairs and watch.....

I have never heard of those traditions Dianne. I hope you can get Diesel to do as planned.

My parents belonged to the Eagles. We always looked in the morning to see what hats & noisemakers they brought us.

My Mom had the same traditions, and, I still open the front door WIDE at midnight to let out the OLD year, and, bring in the NEW :-)

My question .. you know that beef roast recipe with the Au Jus /ranch drsg and butter ? Is it cooked for 8 hours on LOW ??

I started one frozen and cooked on high for the first 3 hours. It was great.

Oh all this talk of roast beef is making my mouth water. First Chinese food and then roast beef M ?? Guess I should eat some dinner - other than cereal. Duke the little imp did some counter surfing earlier in the week and knocked several things off of the counter to get at the Prime Rib I had set out. I had just walked out of the room and heard the noise. You can be assured there were some blue words coming from me.It was just 1 slice I was going to warm up for dinner. He left the bones alone - silly boy- they are so tasty.

I don't know whether to let myself fall asleep knowing I will be awake by one or so or tough it out till about 10 to fall asleep.

Duke can be a counter surfer too !! Hahahaha .. our Gustav .. a Norwegian Elkhound .. did some surfing while we were out .. he got the BUTTER .. ate almost 3/4 of a pound !! He had EXPLOSIVE greasy diarrhea (OUTSIDE) .. poor guy ..

I'm still hangin in .. have read up WAY too much on my 'condition .. I now have 'Costo chondritis' compliments of the Psoriatic arthritis .. kinda owie ..

Think I'll go outside an stare at the dark LoL

Happy New Year to all my friends on here. I have not gone to ATP and will not. I went there a long time ago but I feel more comfortable here. If Betty is not back by the 5th, I am flying to Canada and kicking her A**. Just fair warning Betty.

We have had freezing temps along with wind. I had a really nice cherry tomato Juliette covered and loaded with tomatoes but the wicked wind blew off the cover and then froze the plant. Same with my sweet Italian pepper.

Vern and I and all of our pets are watching the New Year come in. We are taking about selling our two cars and purchasing a new car. Vern cannot drive anymore and one car is his 2 seater sports car. Mine is a large SUV. Pretty soon he will not be able to get in the SUV. My SUV is 13 years old and has 60,000 miles. I just hate to spend money on a car that I will drive about 10 miles a week. Might be cheaper to rent a limo when I need a ride.

Karen, do not go away. You are at home and we will somehow get Betty back so you all can get back to your quilting. Diane, I just love your warm memories of time gone by. When I was driving Vern to his doctor appointment yesterday, I noticed his wedding ring was sliding on his finger. He is getting so thin but so stubborn when riding in the wheel chair. He keeps putting his feet down and braking.

Marilyn, so looking forward to your trip for hubby's surgery and to get back and go forward for 2016.

Granddaughter that got married on the 19th, left for California for an open house in his home town then they are heading back to Kansas City. He has 3 more years of medical school. I will sure miss seeing her because she is a smiling face always. Perfect fit. They were both nerds, English majors, love animals and the outdoors.

Some of our neighbors are going to the bowl game between TCU and Oregon. Big time game until TCU quarterback got kicked off the team for sneaking out of his room and decking a police officer later in the evening last night.

I was awake at midnight but was reading. Lots of fire works on the lake though. I was very proud of Duke he just rolled with it. When I first got him he would have run through the house screaming and peeing. On the other side of the lake there is a cottage owned by a stylist in Hollywood via Kingston..Twice a year he comes up and must pay many $$$s on fireworks. In the summer people bring their boats to the area to watch. Last night his display was better than any professional show I have seen. The pups and I stood on the deck ohhing and ahhhing

Like Barb my wish for 2016 is that we all have better health and just stretching a bit win a lottery. I would never win as I don't buy tickets.

Need to move wood into the carport but I just don't feel like it. Have the oil furnace set in mid 60*s - chilly for some perfect for me.

Sharon I so understand you dilemma about your vehicle. I have a 20002 4 wheel drive Escape- very few miles on it but I am concerned things will start to go south on it even though it has been well cared for. I built a stool for Warren to get in and out as it was too high a step for him the last few months he was alive.

Judy I read half of the birthday book to the pups. I know you'all think I am the crazy dog lady. I have read to all of my dogs over the years. It is sort of our time out for 15 -20 min. We all quite enjoyed it but Diesel did a bad thing. He loves anything paper and before I realized what he had been chewing 1/2 of the chickadee book mark. I was not happy and he knew it.

Awww Dianne ... I don't read to the dogs, but, we have extended 'one on one' conversations .. just ONE, my favourite, Lilly, resists .. since Zoey arrived almost 2 years ago, she has gone'cold' on me .. we used to have what we all refer to as 'girl time' .. she would be all goofy and I'b pet her and scratch her and tell her how beautiful she is .. now, when I say 'girltime' she turns her back on me, breaks my heart .. sometimes, if the other 2 are out, I can scoop her up for some US time .. I have 4 songs I sing to the dogs, so, I guess that's like reading :-)
