Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Yes, home and happy! What a wonderful, wonderful time. Not a minute of wishing we had more down time! Betty kept us busy and proud of ourselves!

So sorry, Susan, try to keep your chin up.

Katie, sorry about your bites. Hope the Benadryl helps. Being in Mexico do you ever see any of the Monarchs that winter there? I would love to see them in Mexico.

So 36 Monarchs released all together. What a hoot this experience was! I have some neat videos of them emerging from the chrysalis. Loved showing Betty and friends last night.

M, I hope you get some satisfaction soon regarding the Dr. call. Glad Smokey is hanging in.

Hey, Sis Kathy! Good to see you posting here! Does your DH, Michael still have pneumonia? I hope he's better. I'm sorry you're still having to putz around with those awful neighbors! Ack!!

So I'm on the couch. I'm in my nightgown and I'm just going to chill. Betty, I left my ice pack the chiropractor gave me in your freezer. Go ahead and use it if you want. I'm seeing him tomorrow and I hope he'll give me another one. Your bubbler and the black mulch look great. I'm glad you're happy with it. It was our pleasure to install it for you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you ladies are home safe.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks, LK.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

yay .. the happy wanderers are safe and sound at home :-)

Well .. at 4:20pm I called the Cancer Clinic .. the nurse who answered was dumb struck as to why I hadn't gotten a call back .. she apologized over and over and has made sure that it will be looked after FIRST thing .. who knows .. jeeze .. stuff like that just ticks me right off !!!

Hey Betty .. did you hear about the horrific car accident up around Lorna's parents !! A drunk driver (VERY wealthy) wiped out nearly a whole family !!!
Too sad ..
When will people ever learn ..

Best get to bed .. I get up pretty early

Smokey is hanging on ,, just had some roast beef .. but, he is so weak ..

Sniff

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats Joyce, here we thought you hadn't left anything, remember what I said if any of you left something..it's mine lol

I will mail it when I get state side..know I owe you for postage..

The girls Joyce were in awe hearing and watching the video's of the Monarchs..we learned so much..now I know when I see one if its male or female.wouldnt that be something , your butterflies enjoying Katie's gardens

"m" guess you will have to keep on top of it..sad that we have to. Hope you hear tomorrow!

No, haven't watched the news..sad indeed

Verona, ON

I really enjoyed reading about all your adventures when you went on Betty's Magical Mystery Tour Joyce. Glad you are all home safe and sound.

M I saw that report of that accident on the news last night - what a tragedy for all the families. I just can't imagine the devastation you would feel losing all 3 of your kids (under 8) plus your 65 year old father. The young man - I think I heard he was 29 and was getting married in 2 weeks - will have a huge burden to carry for the rest of his life. You know they are spending all this $$$ warning the teens not to drink and drive but I think they are missing out on those who do it most - people in their late 20's and older. I mentioned a horrific accident down in my area at the beginning of summer. The young girl driving - no alcohol or drugs involved, everyone had their seat belts on - just 17 has been charged with the death of the 2 teens who died plus a litany of charges involving the other teens hurt. She was to start Queens Univ at the beginning of Sept.

((M)) it is so hard to watch someone you love struggle to stay alive.

It has been raining a;; day. The 3 divas will not walk in the rain.I got my wellies and raincoat on and set off - all 3 ran home and huddled in the carport until I got back.

Katie I am thinking you should keep those fire ants down there. Did the Benadryl help? How is Max doing these days?

Well I had better find something to eat - cereal sounds good to me.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Morning all,

Dianne, both so tragic..so many lives affected!

Maybe in the days you don't feel like walking with the diva's you can put on the sprinkler and fool them. How are the cankers, back to eating everything. Must be quiet for you now that cottages are gone, was my favourite time, kids in school, cottages gone, only the sounds of the lake to entertain me.

Had a lovely light rain early morning, looks as though blue skies for the rest of the day..girls arrive at 9 and usually leave at 1pm then I'll get out and do some work in the gardens..decided to remove the little pond, now that fall is here I will try to do it so I will be off to a new start come spring..ideas,ideas,ideas..I've the slate for little area that leads to big pond, Sharon shared a tutorial on how to do an obilist ball fountain, I could make three standing ones different heights and make a pretty water feature vs the pond..removed some rock from the bubbler, just too many, not sure why I thought I needed so many, filled the area with mulch so it looks better..nice to come home and see the bubbler greet me and friends.

Now to see when Andrew can come and fill it in. Lol

Will be nice to have a project in mind

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We would love to see pictures of the bubbler Betty.

Tired, girls today wore me out..all we're doing runners

They left and I forgot to take a photo, have this one when pat was just starting..will make sure to get some when they come Tuesday.

Am I glad to be HOME!
This time the injection has knocked me on my butt!!!
Brand new office, very swanky .. way nicer than the 'broom closet' from my last 2 times .. I guess the pharmaceutical company thought they had best pull up their boot straps as patients were complaining ..
Anyway .. I feel weary to the bone, AND .. I can't lay down as I am STILL waiting for a call back for Lorna from the Cancer Clinic .. how unprofessional, and, RUDE .. 2 days to return an URGENT call !!
I won't blast them, but, I won't be very complimentary or falling over myself thanking them for the call back !

Breakfast was good, met a classmate/colleague in the restaurant .. she and her hubby were celebrating year 42 of marriage .. I swear .. Sandi has NOT changed one bit !!!

Shopping .. well .. it was shopping ..

Love the bubbler Betty .. is it heavy ?

LK .. I can only empathise with you re 'THAT' pain .. gawd it was awful ...

How are you today Katie ? No more ants I hope ..

Best go play Scrabble while I WAIT !!!

Hugs

Victoria Harbour, ON

I can't believe the haven't called back "M"
Think I'd be calling every hour on the hour..they must know under the circumstances Lorna would be frantic waiting for some info.

Hope the meds start working soon..

As for the bubbler, heavy rock heavy

Jaimie is here with backhoe digging trench for o pipe in hopes it will redirect the drainage into the ditch..let's hope!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

"m", once again I would be on the phone before they close. Maybe they "forgot" again.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Got the call !!
Seems the hematologist isn't too concerned with the results, but, as I am, he is going to have Lorna come in for follow up blood work ..
So .. I guess all is well there now .. Lorna seems content with that ..

Next hurdle .. Smokey .. gads .. this is a toughie ..

~M~

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Whew good news for Lorna. So sorry about Smokey, It's such a hard call to make. You have to love him enough to do what's best for him. Hugs.

mulege, Mexico

Good news about Lorna.

While I was working elsewhere the fire ants invaded the kitchen. My arms and ankles are on fire!!!

Tony is bringing more bug spray tomorrow. I don't like using it but its' the only thing that works. And it's only temporary.

It was SLIGHTLY cooler today. There are a couple of hurricanes around but nothing too close.

Sharon, are you lurking?

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fantastic news for Lorna "M"

From the sounds of it I think you know the decision you must make, take comfort he will no longer be in pain.

Oh Katie, these bites must in some way be poisoning your system..no wonder you are always fighting being tired..hope the storm continues to work its way away from your region.

I was wondering about Sharon as well, hope she iand Vern are ok.

Been a quiet afternoon and evening..had 4 snowflake blocks to do..cut the snowflakes out..brings me back to my youth when I'd cut out doll clothes for cut out dolls, remember those?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I have been lurking. I typed a long post yesterday and lost it. Very irritating.

Betty I think the big boulder will look better with smaller rocks around it. Sounds like you outdid yourself for Joyce and her visitors. Always a tour guide. And yes, Joyce, we need your recipe for the roast beef because I am in a rut with cooking.

I am finally crawling out of my hole of depression. Today is the 4th day in a row I have been out of bed by 11:30am. Before that it was closer to 1pm. Vern was getting concerned because when I fell in this hole about 10 years ago, I did not get out of bed for close to 2 weeks. I am back on the meds and they are finally hitting my brain after beginning of 4th week.

Vern is doing good. He is on a new Parkinson medicine and we are hopeful that will help with his walking.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

He is eating good and actually has better color.

Marilyn, good news on Lorna. And please tell her Mother Winter said, "Good Job Lorna" on winning the reward. So sorry about Smokey. Just remember how wonder he will feel when he crosses over the rainbow bridge and joins all his younger animal friends. I believe we go back to our younger healthier days. Why not?

Katie, so sorry about the fire ants. I have many little lizards here. Do they eat fire ants. Must be someway to control them.

Diane, I do not know how you take care of three large dogs. You must have a broom you fly around on or something like that.

Linda, I hope your help with your pain is quick. My pain is gone now that I am back on Effexor XR. Go figure. Over 2 months of withdrawal torture down the drain.

I have no idea of anything to say to Susan except I am so sorry. Nothing has gone right for over 3 month and that is enough to break someone. When I was having my withdrawal problems I would talk to the devil and tell him to bring it on because I knew if he was picking on me it was saving someone that couldn't handle it.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

My worker was here last Wednesday and Thursday and cleaned up everything. At least now I can go outside and not be overwhelmed. First time in many years that I did not work side by side with my workers.

My granddaughter is getting married on the 10th of October. First grandchild to get married. He is going to medical school and she has graduated from college and works for Adobe. She just bought a town home in Orem, Utah because they will be there are least 5 years.

My son Todd, Heather and baby Luke (now 5) will be here next week for the wedding from Spokane. Also my sister from California.

I am not Catholic but I sure enjoy listening and watching the new Pope. Such a gentle soul.

Karen, so glad you are feeling well.

Hope the bad neighbors have backed off. Hugs to you all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear the Dr. called back "M".

Bev, glad to hear you know you need your meds. I pray they work wonders for you.

mulege, Mexico

I have lots of geckos and many of them run in and out of the house. They don't upset me and they are supposed to eat mosquitoes. I don't know about ants Another thread mentioned a product that is supposed to work so I put it on my Amazon wish list though I may ask my friend in San Francisco to send it to me.

The itching has subsided.

Puppy Inky Dink has settled right in. The bigger and older dogs are a bit grumpy about puppy energy but we can all use a shake-up now and then.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You may want to look into something with Fenoxycarb, a birth control for fireants and it is mixed with a poison that kills the mound.

http://www.uaex.edu/publications/pdf/fsa-7036.pdf

Sharon, glad you are feeling happier and that Vern is doing better.

Allergies have had me barking like a seal and nose running like a faucet. My neighbor mowed down a large patch of ragweed and I walked out into the pollen being blown across the yard.

Glad you and the Ladies had a good time Betty. The bubbler is a fine gift.

LK, good news about the appt. I know it has been a long time coming.

M, seems good news for Lorna. With Smokey....is he in pain? Has he been sick since the vet last saw him? My SIL is a vet and when I spoke to her about first Max, then Mea, she said that they eat less, drink less and sleep more and generally slow down. Max was 20 when he went out one afternoon and crossed the bridge. He was not sick, he just went to sleep and his heart stopped. Mea is 20 now and she is as pushy and bossy and as loud as ever, just slower. She prefers small meals 3 or 4 times a day, and spends a lot of time curled up in one of her 3 favorite places. She likes to go out for a few minutes in the morning and again in the evening and she keeps the 2 boys, Bob Zombie (10) and Squatch (5) in line. The bottom line here is if he is not in any pain and not ill, why put him down?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sharon it's nice to see you post..

Depression is one heck of a hell to go through. They've come such a long way with meds..sure hoping that the meds kick in quickly and you start having sunshine days. Do you come up with anything that brings it on? Great news about Vern, would be wonderful if he would be able to be more mobile.

A wedding, that is enough to cheer you up, Luke is sure to bring more joy into your life.

As for the rocks, yes I took some away yesterday, likely more to be removed today..I made a rock pile, know Joyce is shaking her head, knew she shouldn't have left me to finish it off so more work on the project.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Interesting product Jean, worth a try for Katie .
How long if it's allergies Jean will you have the effects of runny nose?
Your kitties sure have a long life span
How is your mil?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Another frosty morning here in the north .. 32F
DH brought in more baskets of veggies last night .. tomatoes and green peppers .. looks like I'll be busy making something .. not like I feel like it ..

Jean .. Smokey is so painfully thin now, and, he basically drinks water .. altho yesterday he did manage some people food, but, not with the GUSTO he is known for .. his 22 years are catching up. Our hearts are heavy .. even the 3 dogs know something is up ..
I think Gord and I will make the decision very soon ..

Good to see you posting Sharon .. sounds as though things are coming together there :-)

Katie, I am a 'bug a phob' .. not a fan of anything that crawls and can bite .

As usual .. will be out and about early .. didn't get all the shopping done yesterday as I pooped out after my shot ..

47 feels like 43 here this morning, not as cold as you "M"..bet Dianne is getting the warm weather..
Can you remember when you got your first snow last year?
How do you feel this morning, any side effects..hugs re Smockey

I have to drive to Honey Harbour tonight for supper, my monthly supper with the battens..guess I'd best take out an apple pie out of the freezer and bake for dessert..feel more like staying home though

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi - just wanted to pop in and say that I read your posts
~M~ - sorry your Smokey is slowing down, but it seems that he knows what's happening, and is accepting it. The Rainbow Bridge must look awfully good to him, when he can get kittenish again :-)
Glad that they got back to Lorna - what a relief....

lol Birth Control for Fire Ants........ Bob's asking if they aren't from S America?!? I remember getting bitten by a nest of them in Florida when I was 17 - not something I will soon forget - it was on a sunburn - ouch

Honey Harbour - what a neat name! Enjoy your supper.

LK - hooray, you have an app't!!

Heard from Calgary Legal Guidance - they want to see us next Tues eve, to talk to us about our rental situations. Both here (which is their focus) and at the mobile (which is our focus and they can talk a bit- half hour free consultation with a lawyer). Grace & Robert will give us a month to month lease, increasing the rent $100 for Dec (Christmas baking! I'm doing nothing here.... so Bob's going to talk to Grace about that)
Bob got me a "pretty" last night - cheered me up. It's a Heather Stone - made from the stems of heather, which are stripped of bark, coloured, pressed with 80 tons to make a slab, then cut and polished to look like stones. Made in Scotland in Pitlochry. One of a kind - sorta like me lol

Sorry if I missed anyone

Hard to believe your are getting cold already. Supposed to be 98 today.

Susan, that necklace is beautiful.

Jean, sorry to hear your allergies are bad. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very pretty pendant Susan.

I have an urgent QOV presentation, Viet Nam vet with stage 4 cancer. Quilt will be here tomorrow and then I call to set it up. I could call today but if there is a delay in the mail....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - got our first snow Aug 21st!! Have had snow since, and several Frost Advisory's

Verona, ON

Oh Karen I am so proud of you helping this Nam vet. I have a special spot in my heart for them ..... lost too many friends.Sending positive thoughts and prayers for this fellow.

Sharon the 3 big dogs help me from falling into that deep dark hole that beckons me sometimes. I walk for miles on the farm with them so we all come home exhausted. Of course the divas that these 3 boys are refuse to walk in the rain - showers are fine.Remember Sharon you are not alone and if you need to vent we are all here. This is an amazing group of women!

Oh LK I sure hope you get something concrete from this specialist .... not a come back. I hated that with the Orthos when I was needing a knee replacement. Finally I just broke down in tears in the Ortho's office and said I'd had enough pain for a lifetime. Surgery was scheduled in less than a month.

Betty was it warm and humid for you yesterday? It poured rain all day yesterday and with the humidity it was 86*F. Today I need long pants and a sweater.

Is Joyce going to share that roast beef recipe? Or did I miss it? I didn't get online yesterday - puter problems.

M hope you are feeling better today. Good news for Lorna. But I am appalled at the Cancer Centre's lack of response. I know once Warren was in the thick of it I knew who and when to call and didn't go through the general switchboard. All of those involved in Oncology are angels and very special people. Sometimes the secretaries are overwhelmed both with people and emotions. Warren and I were quiet ones but some families were shouting, arguing and crying the whole time they were there. At 1 point in the Chemo room 1 fellow was allowed to only bring 1 family member as he would have 8 - 10 emotional family members with him.
Know the decision about Smokey is weighing heavy on you all. (((M)))

Good to 'see' you Barb. Yep that Norm is a keeper. Give him a hug from me as a thank you for you being able to get back to us.

Need to get the garbage out the lane.. so off I go.
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Dianne. When I see the surgeon, there will be no more, lets try this. I will break down like you did if I have too!

Susan, you have snow on the ground?

Sending my blessing as well Karen. Thanks for doing what you do.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Been working on finishing snowflake blocks this morning, Joyce mailed the majority from Ohio yesterday, today I'll get the rest out. Just got a call to cancel supper for tonight, seems the Battens aren't feeling well, almost did the happy dance, didn't really want to go out..took all my time this morning to get out of my Jammies.

Am sure Joyce will share her recipe,so easy, you don't even add water..a must for next time I hacpve company

Susan, wow, is that unusual so early? But then you get little in the winter..

Dianne, no, was nice, rain just early in the a.m. But in the low 60,s

Today although the sun is shinning the wind is up

Karen, girls are right, so proud of you..he sure will be thrilled and what a feeling getting it before the end of is days. Is he nearby?

Am sure Lindakay there will be no delay but yes, bring Jammies and say you will sit at the office door until he finds time to operate.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, drive is 2-2 1/2 hours but a nice drive. Also a sewing machine in that area DGD is interested in so will try to check on that too.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hiya

Home again, and now into housework mode, does it ever end !

LK .. trust me, tears and a walker help .. I was ready to call it quits .. seriously .. the pain was uncontrollable, and, unrelenting .. I cried and cried .. and dagnabbit .. who stuck by me the most after the dogs and humans .. SMOKEY .. he would lay with me, his head on my hand ..
It's things like that ( he is an 'intuitive cat) that rattle me ..
He has eaten today .. and drank water .. but his breathing is not good, and, he sleeps and sleeps ..

Susan, lovely necklace .. DH and myself spent part of our honeymoon in the Pitlochry area .. absolutely beautiful .. course, all of Scotland was mind blowing :-)

Dianee .. these pets of ours are too special .. and I know you love yours, and, the place they put you in ..

Gotta fly
