Putting this here too. A so easy way to make prairie points.
Best/Worse/What did I Learn today?chat with friends old/new
Hi - we're back from camping - rained after we went to bed on Monday, and started again Thursday, and kept up through today.
Bob, Remy, and I enjoyed ourselves - especially on the walks :-)
Remy's now being very good, and not tugging on his leash, so I can walk him more comfortably.
Otherwise, he's a very gentle and loving doggie. I think he's gotten more exercise with us than he ever got with his "other humans" lol
Thunder that is going to be some quilt..how close to finishing it are you? Do you have photo of the finished piece you are doing?
Susa, sounds like the past few days are just what you all needed, let's hope you can relax more and settle in over next few weeks.
Thanks Karen, going to check it out..
Just in from town, groceries put away, Chinese for supper..relaxing evening ahead!
It was snowing here, earlier - imagine - Snow, in August? unheard of.....
it was only 2 celcius, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Supposed to warm up tomorrow, to 15c, and higher after that.
I emailed Health & Safety tonight, telling them about the lack of heat. According to their rulings, it's supposed to be 22c in each room, and not with a portable heater either. We went upstairs to turn on the thermostat (we don't have one in our suite - all controlled by theirs and it was turned off - it's computerized and not sure how to operate it). We only have 3 ceiling vents for heat, and a portable oil-heater.
I don't know what they're going to do for us, but this was a taste of what it would be in the winter...... extreme brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! and we won't put up with it. As I said - cannot be portable heaters!
Most likely they didn't expect it to get so cold, but they still shouldn't have turned it off. You will definitely have to have a sit down with them and write down what it is each of you expect.
Morning ...
I agree with Karen re getting all out on the table ..
Lorna had a basement apt before moving here .. there was heat, and, she had her own entrance (door) ..
Have friends camping in the Rockies who have posted pics of snow at the higher altitudes .. only thing is,, the HIGHER altitudes aren't that much higher than the places getting snow in August.
Cool here again this morning, but, a high of 85F is expected today ..
DH is already off n running, they fellas have breakfast prior to the hunting and fishing show.. I'm waiting for Murray to come get my car .. haven't gone through it, pretty much just have shopping bags, gum and McDonalds coffee cards in it ..Hope he and Brooklyn have a great time :-)
Lorna is sleeping, my task in the next few minutes is to keep the dogs from EXPLODING once Murray gets here LoL
Going to rearrange the furniture in the living room today (while DH is away) .. gawd it's heavy .. but, manageable .. time for a change ..
Hope everyone has a fantabulous day ..

Morning,
Lordy I'm lazy, just got out of bed
57 expecting a high of 77
Susan, with the gals, think I'd wait before calling all the agencies until they get back and have a friendly meeting..bringing up all of your rights will only antagonize and make for bad feelings thus difficult living conditions for the next year, am sure they are just things that haven't yet came to mind and yep who would expect cold weather to arrive so soon
"m" always nice to have a change, wish my living room design would blend to different designs..only change I can make would involve furniture in front of picture window. Nice to hear Lorna got to sleep in this a.m. While shopping yesterday bought blueberry pie, not as good as yours but you had me licking my choos
Karen, how are you feeling today?
No plans for today other than cutting grass..still quite wet out there so might have to wait till later today
Good Morning.
Just wanted to poke my head in and say Hello. Had a wonderful time with Jan, Peter and the Grands, but Lordy what a flight! Cross International Dateline going, so we jump a whole day.
.Left home at 1:30 Thursday afternoon and arrived in Brisbane at 11:30 Saturday morning... and the return trip is like time traveling...Left Jan's house in Brisbane at 7:30 AM this past Thursday and walked in our front door at 9:30 PM Thursday night...almost 30 hours compressed in a single day.
Still trying to get our days and nights straight and recuperate from 16-17 hour flight from Sydney to Dallas/Ft Worth....
Trying to catch up, hope you are all doing well. Have a lovely weekend.
Jean
Wonderful fall day here.... I love it.
Yesterday I ate a ball of stupid for breakfast. I lumbered through the day having things go wrong all day. I should have stayed in bed like I wanted to. Think I am going to look into a fences area for the pups.Just so they can all play at 1 time plus on the days I have a vertigo attack they can go out and I won't be crawling across the floor to let them out 1 at a time.
OMG it just dawned on me its Sat not Fri. I've been up since 3 am so think I will have a nap.

I think I'm finally whipping this pneumonia ,Betty. Fixed dinner for the crew last night. Wasn't much , goulash, but they didn't have to fend for themselves.
In fact hubby, DGS, & Amelia had gone out on the lake fishing. When it was ready, I rang the dinner bell as is our habit. Folks renting next door said..if that's for dinner we'll be right up. I told them come on as there was plenty.
One of the things I like about our lake, it's small enough, If the bell is rung it can be heard all over. We've been using it for nearly 30 years to call in the troops for what ever reason.
Hey Jean. How are you doing? Sounds like you had a great vacation, although a long flight each way.
Karen, glad to hear you are feeling better. My grandparents had an old triangle thing they used to ring for dinner.
I was in an antique store in the wee town my DD lives in. Now I have to tell you, the store owners son, had a radio station hook-up and was broadcasting himself singing from the balcony. Any how was wandering through and way in the back in a corner, I found this bell. It's in great shape and complete with yoke. Too big for me to lift, I didn't want to walk away from it and hubby was no where to be seen. I stood there for what seemed like forever and finally he came looking for me. I had my bell. The price was ridiculously low.
Jean so nice to hear you enjoyed your vacation..yep, will take you weeks to get back on your regular schedule. Mil missed you I bet, how is she doing..lindakay and "M" had the worse of the heat while you were gone, hope temps are ok for you...what were the temps where you were.
Karen, glad pneumonia is breaking and you feel a tad better..Ahhh great buy, glad you got it..where will it be hung
Went out, grass just so wet so came back in to sew..putting my project together..starting to look like something!
Betty we've had the bell many many years. That's where the story started telling about ringing it to bring my gang in off the lake for dinner.
Good morning,
I'd be doing great if I could just move!! Glad to feel more cheerful so I'll play on the puter and hope the pain pill works.
Found several new site for tropical and subtropical plants in the last few days. OMG - if only I was rich - and young. And had more land. I have ordered two seeds. Malabar chestnut which I've been reading about for a long time and gac, which is called little jackfruit. I tried some seeds several years ago and didn't have any lasting success. It is supposed to be very healthy so I'm trying again. "Darwin's garden" here. The little jackfruit trees are all doing well so far. AS are the dragonfruit. I've had so many failures I can get discouraged but that's the big challenge in trying to introduce new food plants. Big success is the dragonfruit and I have shared cuttings, which root easily even with no earth, up and down The Baja. My legacy, along with a few shotia trees.
We also have about twenty adenium plants grown from mixed seeds. I found and bought and brought down a wicker shelf (at a thrift store - slept with it on my way home). It is now in the front garden looking right at home with all the adeniums.
The new-to-me a/c has a computer board that's not working. I contacted the young man I bought it from - we had hit it off really well - he's looking for a replacement part and will send it down by Baja Pack (mail at the bus station) if he can find it. The old a/c is gone from this bedroom. I was going to sleep in the other bedroom but there was another ant invasion - I sprayed twice and slept in here with the fan on. Slept OK. Will try to get the other bedroom ant-free for tonight.
Helper is here. Tony and I are both so happy to have his help with work that is not too hard but nice to have someone else do. Helper asked if he could buy a fan from me. I gave him one that I've upgraded from and he worked extra as his rent was due so I made sure he was covered on that. Would be nice if this continues to work out. Meanwhile we are happy with what he has done.
We will probably have another eight weeks of hot weather. I think I'll make it. May need to make another trip t o San Diego in a month or so. I have to pick up my pain meds in person so I'm rationing them more than usual and planning what other errands I need to do.
Time to vacuum up some dead ants. They must have a compound nearby.
hugs, katie
Next month Debra will be 16 and in Jan. Melanie will be too. They are the youngest of our granddaughters. It's one year early but I feel the need to do this now. Each of our granddaughters has received an inch of pearls at birth and an inch was added every birthday. On their 17th birthday, I added the last inch, making 18" and a diamond clasp. I have the pearls for the girls already so I think I will be adding the clasp and getting them restrung for the last time. I'll give them to the girls at Christmas but not as a Christmas gift.
My mother did this for my daughters and niece also. When she bought them, the pearls were $8.50 per inch and there were only the three to buy for. Last time I bought them for my DGDs, they were over $50. per inch. That's when I bought complete necklaces for the remaining girls and presented them an inch at a time. I used to add the inch and string them myself on dental floss with attached gold chain so they could wear them for special occasions.
I know pearls are old fashioned but so far, every single one has been married in their pearls.
It will be fun to see the last of them go home.
Oops, sorry Karen thought it was another bell you had bought..
Karen what a great idea, they will be more than thrilled but likely concerned you are doing it now but will understand. Traditions, big sigh, wish I had some daughters/granddaughters to pass them on to..boys are doing ok but still not girls.
Katie, just too bad your meds can't be sent my mail or same method as the young man will send the a/c board..Drats, here I thought having the a/c installed you'd be needing a sweater! Lol
Having lunch, so yummy eating cuc and tomato sandwhiches..have left over Chinese from last night for tonight, making a tomato /hamburger/macaroni for tomorrow..out for supper at a friends..easy cooking these days.
Karen I have a bell too. Had it for over 40 years. We used to use it when company didn't know when to leave.
Oh Betty your sammie sounds so good.. Think thats what I will have for dinner.
Someone at the door ...... Later
Dianne
To anyone who thinks I should wait until they get back and talk to our landlords - They've told us we should, and I tried and tried. She doesn't believe she's in the wrong, and won't listen anymore. She'd told us both to talk to them, but it doesn't do any good when we do. She says that she told us (and it was in the lease) that Bob was to look after the plumbing, and was quite rude about it. 1. it was not in the lease 2. Bob & I both told them both that he's not a plumber, but he tried for 2 weeks (at her insistence that he could do it anyway) and we went without water because of it. I'm NOT going to go without heat for the reasoning that she's provided us with portable heaters. She is not going by the law, because it's an illegal suite (there are lots of them, and forgiven, in Calgary - that's not an issue), and she doesn't want anyone to know we're living here in an illegal suite, so thinks she can keep us quiet and that we'll put up with anything. I'm finally finding my voice, and I won't let her do what she wants just because she wants to save $$. It's affecting US, not her.
All Righty then....Go get her tigerrrrr.
That came out really nice. What size is it?
Betty, I'm so envious of your close Chinese eatery. I could do it nearly every day.
Betty that is a beautiful quilt!!
Betty, that quilt is gorgeous! !
The quilt I am working on has 25 or 30 blocks, depending on desired size. I'll probably go with the 30.
I have five blocks completed. And parts done of a few others.
Some of the blocks have options, I'm doing a plant, instead of a pair of glasses, for one, because I haven't been able to pick a fabric I think I will like for the glass part !! If I choose something later, I'll put the glasses on a different block, as I do like them.
That is really a nice design "T". I wish I had your talent and patience.
Storming here, having a difficult time signing into, and, staying on Daves ..
Have a good one
:-)
~M~
I love that quilt.
Morning everyone.
Morning,
What a masterpiece that quilt will be Thunder..who are you making it for? An act of love for sure.
'm' you are sending me your storm, I'll try not to send it Debbie and Dianne's way!
Karen, how's your project going?
Sunshine day here, 77 - feels like 82, "M"s storm will roll in later thus aft.
Went outside to see if I could cut grass, just too wet, got vacuuming done, finished the meal I was cooking yesterday and now am free until 2:30pm when I go to Dianne's for supper.
So while I wait for grass to dry enough to cut I will work at putting the quilt top on the frame.
While checking if I could cut grass I checked out the gardens..
Lordy the carpet roses are beautiful, wanted to buy more this year and forgot all about it, still might have time to find a few..phlox are in full bloom as well
Beautiful gardens Betty. All your hard work is showing.
All pieces cut, HSTs made, everything sitting ready to start sewing. Hope I can wrap my head around this pattern, directions are very sketchy.... lay out pieces, sew together as shown.
Thank Lindakay, truly they are at the end..
Karen, which pattern are you doing?
Still so wet out there, going to curl my hair, go get gas and perhaps by then I can cut
It's called Labyrinth Betty, but it might as well be Enigma. Actually nothing difficult about it but I do wish they had showed a way to construct it in sections or something. I'll figure it out, at least I should be able to. I'm not a beginner after all.
This is the directions picture, Your supposed to lay it all out like this and then sew together.
Can see why it's confusing.. Guess you have to look at it and pick sections, wether rows or blocks and go from there.
Went and got gas, had a bowl of hamburger/tomato/Mac a ready to mow the grass
I'm here! Don't you just hate when someone disappears! I have read all and so much I wanted to comment on....but now I can't remember much!
Wanted to say how much I love your quilt top, Betty. I also love, love, love June's chickadee painting! I want to so that's! Also, save some cake for me! It looks so yummy!
One month and Sherry, Kathy and I will be heading to Canada's! I hope the leaves will be changing!
Bad news, Betty. We went to The Secret Garden yesterday. That's where the drilled rocks were. The owner told us that they had decided not to carry fountains any more. 😟 I'm so bummed. She said they just don't sell good. I did manage to spend a hundred dollars on stuff for my garden though!!
Hugs to all of you....
Almost forgot...
Sue asked me to update you on her MIL.
Her text to me yesterday..."Grace is not doing well. She has a fractured bone in her back. Fluid in her legs. She is in lots of pain. She also fell last week. She went to the hospital and is still there. Dr. thinks she may have had a mini stroke. Hoping the best for her. Could you send out a prayer for her on the Sistah groups?"...
So please add Grace to you prayers
Adding Sue's MinL to my T&Ps, thanks Joyce ..
The leaves are ALREADY changing here .. NOT usual at all .. DH feels the trees that are changing are stressed .. maybe the 9-10 days of very hot temps and no rain?
the QUILTS .. my good heavens amighty you ladies have such a blessing in your ability to do that .. I only wish .. my first attempt would be a quilt full of Westies :-)
A lady on my Westie site who lives in the UK has done one .. just absolutely wonderful ..
Still having a few probs with Daves .. could be the weather, we are waiting on round #2 .. this one will be from the west .. the one overnight and this morning was from the south ..
Going out for a ride in the Mule, maybe scope out the high bush cranberries ..

Beat the rain, got the grass cut but not the weeding, that will have to wait!
Going to have a sit down until it's time to leave in an hour, wish I hadn't said I'd go, be quite comfy just sitting here
Joyce nice to see you post and even more so that you and the gals haven't changed your minds about coming in September..to bad about the rock but not the end of the world. I'm with "M" not so sure the colours will spectacular as the trees are indeed in distress. Confusing weather for them I'd say
Sorry to hear about Sue's MIL WILL ADD HER TO MY PRAYER LIST
Such a pretty top! What size is it?
Ran errands. I was on the search for something to put my 6 Monarch caterpillars in so the birds don't get them. Went to a thrift store and Goodwill looking for an aquarium. No luck. But finally I decided on a covered pop up laundry container I can see into. Now I have to go cut my milkweed, get the bugs and aphids off it and find a container I can cut a hole in so the babies don't accidentally drown. I'm going to put some sticks in there, too in case they want to build their chrysalis on them, but my friend said hers went to the top of the container and made them there. I hope they have time to do it all before it's time to head South for them. Wish me luck!
I had Sauerkraut soup yesterday at a restaurant. It was DELICIOUS! I just picked up the stuff to make a batch. Haven't told Bill what it is yet cause he will surely turn his nose up at it!!!
It's supposed to be 77 and sunny tomorrow. Low humidity. I'm going to make some mushrooms. I have to do a demonstration in September for one of my garden clubs. Will be a chance to sell a few, too. I also have a class on making stepping stones the first part of September as well. PLUS....Jordankittyjo from Alabama is coming to visit over Labor Day. So I have some busy days coming up!
