Well, you know how zucchini are - one day they're just aboooouuuuttt ready to pick, and the next morning - BAM - they're baseball bats!! Growing up, we had lots of garden harvest since Dad planted huge gardens, but we always just put stuff in a wheelbarrow at the end of our lane and someone always stopped to pick it up. We didn't grow zucchini, but some of the neighbors did. We used to find it in our mailbox..LOL
I love grilled zucchini all summer, but since I'm the only one I tend to just grab a few from the local farmers. City living and me trying to garden is not working out well... can't wait to move back to the country!
Hot here today, but only 85 with humidity. I thought I heard the ferns thank me when I was watering.... :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hubby stopped growing them because they take up so much room in his garden .. put potatoes in their place.
The gardens are 'coming in' up this way .. slowly but surely .. a great time of year to be sure :-)

It's at least 100F here. I went to town for milk and mangoess. Had an accident but I was prepared so it didn't damage my car. We have a blind curve where I once encountered a policewoman on my side of the road coming towards me and have been super careful there ever since. An old Mexican man was driving his truck on my side. I got over more to the right and stopped so he barely bumped my front tire. I got out and yelled at him a lot. He kept tryint to say it was really my fault so I yelled more. I know enough Spanish to make it clear - as I pointed to the fact that hhalf his truck was on my side of the yellow line.

Got a big bag of mangoes. Yummy for me and business for my friend Araley. She and her husband Manuel have a farm and a little store. Not much business this time of year. Luckily I love mangoes and theirs are great.

Visited with Mario the postman and Saul and came home without incident.

Our helper worked for a few hours this morning, breaking dead palm logs into pieces that will fit in the shredder. Tony ran the shredder again. I worked a little in the front garden. Found a spot where we had missed the Bermuda grass - I'll go out late with a spade and get the rest of it. Got a few more batches of seeds in starter pots.

I felt better last night and stayed up until about 2 sorting stuff. So much to do after months of depression.

Tony said he thinks our helper smokes a little weed but he has really done a lot of hard work so we appreciate him. This heat just drains the energy.

Tony's very happy to be paid in American dollars. It's almsot half again what he usually gets.

Mango time.

hugs, katie

When I arrived at the show Paul showed me my gift, the peacock on the right, had a for sale sign on it..told me anything else I wanted to take it..well I ended up with a driftwood spirit..

I was asking questions about wood, there was a log sitting there with bark on it, we took bark off, wood quite wet but he said he would play with it if I chose something..to,d him an old crony would be nice using branch for nose..we had lots of laughs as the nose took on an appearance of something else..when came time for me to leave it wasn't finished re detail in the face but I said rather than pick it up another day I'd take it as is because of the fun day, it would be a reminder..said I could take it as long as I didn't say it came from him as he so wanted to put detail in the face..so just as we were packing up a lady came and fell in love with the peacock, she lives on peacock lake, her last name is Peacock and she said it was calling her name..she asked how much and Paul said $450, because of closing she would have to come back tomorrow..I had called Paul aside and said although I loved it if he could get that amt then he should do so..he fought me on that because he said he airbrushed it with irredescent paint and it was mine. I finally got him to compromise..if she did come back tomorrow he can sell it, I can pick up something different and if she doesn't come back I'll meet up with him and get it

Now he does have 2 or 3 large saws he wants painted, we came to a barter, he was selling these morels for $100 each, I'll do his saws and he will make me 4 morels so I can give them as Xmas gifts..good deal for both.

Hello everyone. I am here. Todd sisters left about noon, Todd and I took a long nap, and just had meatballs for dinner. We had a great visit with his sisters.

"M", I am glad to hear you are staying with us.

Betty, those wooden carvings are awesome.

Katie, glad to hear you are feeling better, and have helpers for your garden.

Debnie, sure hope you are feeling better soon. Any idea what made you sick?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Katie, don't overdue trying to catch up...Lordy lucky you, accident could have been disastrous

Lindakay, glad you had a nice visit with SIL's

Debbie there is a flu virus going around, sure hope that's not what you have..how disappointing for you if you didn't get to see Shane all decked out

"m" Paul and Penny sure liked their neck coolants, was a hot one today, they appreciated them

Kathy, how is the construction at your place going on? Are you selling once the work is done?

Susan, few more days and you will be on holiday, bet you can't wait

Jeff came to visit, went for a drive for ice cream, he went home with 1/2 loaf of applesauce cake, we stopped at post office so I could pick up my mail, glad I did, there was a quilt block from Thunder, ih so nice!

Jeff is off to Greg's to pick up camping supplies as he and julie and her kids are going to toner more camping for 4 days..he will pick it up then head home..

He said he came in, doors unlocked, TV on so figured I was just out for groceries, after an hour and a half gave up waiting..told him if I left to go away he'd find the place same way..just shook his head. Lol

He took the old crony out of my trunk, I'll have to decide where she will go tomorrow

I love watching woodcarvers in action. Amazed at their detail work. I was in TN years ago, stopped at some little county art fair. Woodcarvers, glassblowers, jewelry, etc... BF was bored, but I loved it. I could sit and watch these people all day long! Lucky you to have someone design for you!
As far as the house projects, we want to sell and move back to IN when Hubby retires in 6 yrs. Most of what I'm doing is just sprucing up, although some of it entailed 'destruction and reconstruction'. And it's going very slow.. since I'm doing it by myself, I hit it hard for a few days and come to a stopping point of either needing more supplies or having to stop and rest my knees or ankles due to swelling and discomfort, especially if I use a ladder very much. Hubby did buy me a base cabinet to make a small moveable island/work surface for the kitchen today. Another project on my list... Seems like I get started, then have to work in mowing, cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc.. Then I lose my mojo for the remodeling and it's a vicious circle. It will get done eventually.
Bella stayed with us a couple days last week and I've stacked quite a few supplies and packed boxes, etc on the other side of the house where they sleep. Although I did clean and attempt to hide the majority of stuff in closets and under the beds so they could use the rooms, her bed was moved to the living room between 2 recliners and a sofa that will be sold or whatever soon. As we lay on the big bed watching a movie, she said "Memaw, you have too much stuffs"! LOL I'm sure she gets that from her mom, as she doesn't like clutter...
Betty, I'm one of those who goes around checking all the doors and windows before I leave or go to bed... I'm a big 'fraidy cat

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Love the carvings Betty, he's very talented.
We are the same here, the only time we lock doors is if we are going out of town for a while.

I'm just not getting over this pneumonia. On top of it, I've totally lost my hearing. I've been using the Debrox drops and tonight hubby used the Water Pic. That usually takes care of it but not this time. I'm coughing so much I get all weak and can't even cough any more. Tried walking to the mail box but it was too much for me. I'm beside myself, I don't want to see the Dr as she just wants to put me in the Hosp. For a few days it seemed to be better but I've gone backwards. We simply cannot afford to add any more to my hospital bills.

rain GLORIOUS rain, JUST STARTED TO rain ABOUT 10 MINUTES AGO .. MYSELF THE CAT AND THE DOGS ARE DOING A quiet 'HAPPY DANCE'
Such needed moisture, Lorna will be thrilled re her gardens at the cemetery ..
Fingers crossed this is a harbinger of LESS heat .. gosh it has been awful here .. yesterday it was about 98F with the humidex ...
DH is back from his 'boy time', and, glad of it as there was NO a/c in the hall where the show was held ..

Celebrating Lorna's Bday today as she works tomorrow .. got the cake and will post a pic of it once I get the transfer on it ..

Karen .. have you tried taking a Benadryl .. you might have allergies .. I know mine are kicking up .. sneezy and a scratchy throat ..

Betty .. even though we live out in the country, we LOCK the doors .. I'm not a fan of tempting fate .. just too much upset if your home is burgled .. My BFF had her home broken into last year .. never caught who did it .. and, she said it would have been easier to take had the burglars not turned on the taps after having put the plugs in the sinks .. it was quite a mess, thousands of dollars in damage ..

Good luck with your renos Kathy ..

Wonder how Deb is, or, if she's home from Colorado .. hope she had a pleasant surprise when she got home .. re the house ..

Best dangle :-)

Karen, you need to see the Dr. Maybe you just need some antibiotics.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've been on antibiotics, inhaler and steroids for nearly a week. Seemed it was improving but back down hill I go. I've always had gunky ears, sometimes like now they get worse. Dr. said when I was in they were building up but "we'll worry about that later". She did try to talk me into the hospital but I just don't feel I can do that, too scared of going back there.
Just for fun I have the good old side kick to using antibiotics....had to get Monostat.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lovely side affect of antibiotics! Please take care.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Yesterday must have really tired me out, just got up, wowzers it's 10am

Karen, you may be afraid to go but I'd be more afraid of not going..please please go to emerge, there might be something more they can do for you.

"m" hot and humid here again today but I think you will send me your rain tomorrow, means I must get the grass cut today as well as mulch down..what fun you will have this aft having celebration for Lorna..know just how much she means to you and Gord ...hope a photo turns out, love to share

Kathy, Bella must be quite a size..as for the remodelling, yes it can wait, one project at a time as not to be overwhelming..just think, you'll be able to get a job when you move with a renovation company as you've learned so much.

Lindakay, guess this is a day of relaxation after having company for a few days, it's always needed regardless how relaxing it was

Must remember to bring out the phone with me, suppose to get a call re going to see about some windows..people were just going on holidays the day I called, said they would be back late yesterday and would call today

Coffee is ready, quick breakfast then outdoors I go..surely it's to hot for Mosquitos wanting to eat!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday Lorna!

Yes, it is a day of relaxation!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cut grass then found it too hot. 89 with a feels like 102 so went into town..had a piece I bought yesterday for Paul for Xmas, too big to store here so dropped it off and said it was a tad early.
Was passing the seniors home in penetang so went and visited with uncle Allan, he will be 83 on Wednesday..then to Canadian Tire, needed Spar Varnish and Spray 9.. Of course they had as seen on TV Stretch and Fresh, bought a box, will try them n food containers this week and if they work then I will pick up several boxed as Xmas stuffers

Going to change clothes, get into garden clothes and maybe start with washing down tables/chairs, at least it will feel good with the water spray back

Quiet here, other than LINDA Kay who will rest and "M" celebrating Lorna's birthday you must all be busy!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

As always you're a busy Betty .. and, as for the heat .. GAG ME !!!!!
Upwards of 97F .. Lorna and I went to McDonalds for a McFlurry .. yummy .. then drove down by the Lake and watched to goings on .. dogs swimming, people launching boats, kiddies at the Splash Pad ..
Drove through the cemetery on the way back .. all is well .. some puddles evident ..
Drove into the driveway at home, got out, and BLAH ... no sitting outside ..
So, inside in the air conditioning, waiting to call for the Chinese Food ..
Lorna is such a HUGE fan of birthdays, too bad her folks aren't here .. she has spoken with them a couple of times ..

SIGH .. I think the element is gone in my 3 year old dryer .. I usually hand clothes on the line, but, with this heat I used the dryer, kept wondering why the clothes were taking so long, popped the door .. cold inside .. DH changed the fuse, thought all was well .. nope ..
SOoooooooooo as the unit is covered I will call tomorrow ..
The heat is going to break tomorrow, so, I'll just use my line ..

Karen .. I wish you all the best .. even though I'm a nurse, I HATE going into hospital ..
All you can do is try to cough up the gunk ..

Thanks to everyone for the best wishes for Lorna :-)

Got a call from Brenda, lady who has the windows..I will go tomorrow at 5pm and look what she has.

I like birthdays as well "M" guess I never grew up..Chinese, great no cooking for you..reminds me I have Chinese from Friday ..enjoy your evening..Drats on the dryer, here is hoping repairs fully covered.

That cake is awesome.

mulege, Mexico

Great cake. Happy birthday, Lorna.

I've had an up and down day - literally. Runs in the morning, followed by a nap. Better this afternoon and did some laundry and gardening. Hot as blue blazes so I didn't do much.

Nice to have lots of palm mulch - makes me feel rich. Like a full tank of gas.

Got George Carlin on Youtube.

Dogs are fed. Twink slipped under the fence while I was working. Darn Houdini dog.

hugs, katie

Love your old crone Betty, looks like it grew there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

He so wanted me to leave her and put ore detail into her face but nope wanted to ring her home..he emailed me last night, had a good day but the lady didn't come back for peacock, said he would get it to me, should be in the shade so not sure where I'll put it, perhaps in the back hut..

Got the chair set done, nice and white, picked a bag of crab apples so will sit and get them done up

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

what an absolutely wonderful Old Crone, and a perfect place to put her :-)
We have a cement owl that we love - had it since we bought our place in Winnipeg, and has gone everywhere with us (even to this new city lol) My neighbour at the Park said she'd miss seeing the owl stare at her when we moved.
We're going to store our piano at Marcel & Carolyn's place - can't sell it, had one offer of $50 and I could not take that for this lovely old piano

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I'm packing the non-perishables now, Bob's taken Remy for his nail trim, and when he returns I'll pack the perishables in our fridge cooler and we're going over to see if my rent cheque has been brought....then we're outta here!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Let's hope the cheque is..can you still go even if it's not?
Enjoy yourselves

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Yes, we can still go - we have funds in the bank. Just don't want to have the cheque sitting in the mailbox while we're gone.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm some better today Betty. Rode into town with hubby to send DGS a love package. Also a package of QOV blocks. Picked up dinner at the farm market, corn, maters & cukes. I think a bit of a nap now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is good Susan..enjoy

Karen, nice that you were able to get out, I did much the same yesterday shopping at the market..today I had corn, should have cooked a roast with fresh yellow beans but didn't, best I do that tomorrow
