That's great, LK - nothing to organize, just enjoy their company.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends old/new
Karen, that tree skirt actually LOOKS happy :-)
Betty .. and Dianne .. I do believe this horrible, horrible heat is headed to you ..
Lorna is sticking it out at work, she drinks oodles of ice water, and, GatorAid ..
We dropped by to see her this morning, and, HAPPILY she was working under the shade of some trees ..
DH is off to the west to a gun show tomorrow .. sportsmens show .. about 4 hours west .. he'll be back Saturday evening.
Wonder how Deb is making out on her trip ..
Debbie .. is it hot where you are, or, are you expecting it on the w/e
Katie, you should get someone to take a pic of the gardens, I am so curious as to the Jackfruit.
Susan .. I wouldn't give this lady the time of day after a comment like that .. a REAL friend doesn't treat you like that .. they LIFT you up ..
Hi to everyone ..
~M~
Karen, love the tree skirt, #15, wow, won't be long and you will reach your goal..thought of you the other day, was surfing sewing sites and there was a tree skirt and another piece that could easily be made into a tree skirt.
I sat quietly after working another 1/2 hr outside and quilted then hand sewed the binding, another one for the tote
Now "M we told you, don't be sending that heat..even though we've had rain I see burnt areas on the grass..glad Lorna is finding shade, dangerous working out in this heat.
"M' It was cool at 5:00 this morning, but is nice now. Gentle breeze.
Took DH for another eye surgery, this one cataract removal to fix what
popped up from his detached retina in December. I have him home for two weeks.
Debbie, hope he's a good patient and goes easy on you..know men when they don't feel the best..think you and I are having about same weather.
Kept busy in the craft room, put all I've ready for Christmas in the dryer for quick fluff..they did feel cool to the touch..started to panic, knew I had more than what I was finding, then remembered a tote I put in laundry room..wow I was fretting!
Glad you found them.
http://www.quiltsofvalour.ca/ Here you go Betty.
No helpers today. I think we wore them out. Just as well as I'd worn myself out and also had a touch of stomach flu. The heat and humidity are beyond my poor ability to describe. Hard to get through even the few minutes to fix the dogs' dinner. Quickly returned to the a/c in my bedroom.
My flu seems to have passed (literally lol) and I hope I'll be feeling better tomorrow.
I need to write what I hope will be the last letter to the IRS, thanking them for their help and asking them to encourage an investigation into my retirement association. After that, unless I get an unexpected surge of energy and an infusion of new ideas I will have to move on. Painful but necessary.
the little jackfruit trees are only a few inches tall so it's best to look up the plants and fruit online. Cherry tomato seeds are sprouting. I need a little energy to get some other started.
hugs, katie
((((hugs)))) right back atcha, Katie
Betty - glad you found them - it may seem like a long time until Christmas, but it really isn't, is it?
Debbie - you tell your hubby that we all say he has to be a good patient, then you enjoy time spent with him :-)
Marilynne - Tabor is going to have to do some quick backstepping to get back in my good graces. This isn't the first time, and I'm sure if I let it, it wouldn't be the last. Yes I know she's been under stress, but she won't allow me the luxury (and frankly, I haven't been having a lot of that).
This has been a very productive day - got more stuff off the patio and sorted more furniture. Some of it went into the Power room
Took Remy for a walk - or rather, he walked me lol He's a strong little fella, and he was pulling me faster than my poor knees could take.
Looking forward to Monday, and hoping that the cheque from the City comes before we go.
Morning everyone,
Lazy this a.m.
Mother Nature decided about midnight to put on a sound and light show..got up and unplugged computers and sewing machines just in case.sure don't need to water the gardens.. Going to be a hot one this morning so decided to close all the windows and put a/c on.
Looked like sunshine was going to win. Overcast and looks like rain..think I have time to work a bit in the gardens though. Want a few more cleaned as I'll pick up 6-8 bags of mulch if that many will fit in the car
Hope somewhere Deb has internet service so she can let us know she is safely at her destination
Debbie, how is Paul this morning?
Lindakay, am sure you are enjoying your company, let's hope meds work so you will not have to endure too much pain while they are there
Barb, did you give any thought to the purse/wallet tutorial? Always easier to make if someone who has done some gives step by step
Finished coffee so outside I go
Nice to have internet service back !
It went down last night around 6:45pm ..
I got some reading done, but, nothing much more as the heat was so oppressive ..
Lorna was sapped when she came home, and DH fixed us all toasted tomato and bacon sammies .. one each was all anyone could handle .. it is/was just too dang HOT! And, as I hear it, no end in sight ..
DH is off to his gun show with his buds, I just want him to bring UNSPRAYED BBerries home for a pie or 2. Big controversy up this way re the forest industry spraying where the berries are .. the Natives are outraged .. they make a fair buck from their hard work picking those berries ..
Christmas .. hokey doodle .. I started a 'jar' on Jan. 1st .. I have faithfully put $$ into it every Monday .. have over $500. saved .. that's enough for DS and fam .. they get $$ as they are heading to Cuba for 2 weeks in January ..
I might have to start getting 'crafty' .. LoL
Susan, imagine walking THREE critters .. a challenge my replaced hip does NOT like ..
Katie .. I so hope your heat is lessened today .. it really can be a killer.
Are you far from the Sea of Cortez?
Linda, have fun with your company ..
Debbie .. my DH is an absolutely crummy patient ! Hope your fella is better ..
Dianne and Betty ,, crank up your air .. sorry, it's comin your way.
HEY .. I saw some of the Persid comet showers .. just 2 shooting down .. DH stayed up and saw more ..
Thinking about, Barb,Sharon, Deb, Sue, Mario , Mary, Bev, Jean, Joyce .... my brain is now locked ..
Trying to decide whether of not to renew .. lotsa thinks happening ..
Enjoy your day ladies
~M~
"m" you had better dip into that jar and take membership fee out
We'd Sooo miss your posts and I'm sure you would munis IS right?
yeah, 3 critters would Not be do-able for me....... I'm not used to walking one, at the moment. This will be a good thing for me :-)
Cost effective
😏. I picked a grocery bad full of crab apples, taken me 1 1/2 hrs to core (they aren't large) and bet I end up with about 2 jars of applesauce..while shopping likely buy 2 jars for $4
Now tell me is it worth it. Lol
Totally well worth it Betty .. nothing nicer than fresh homemade applesauce .. I make it every year and am sad when the last jar bites the dust in about Jan or Feb.
I like cinnamon in mine, and, store bought seems to use so little of it ..
Money isn't the issue re my renewing .. I've been a member since 2006, and, I find the site a fount of info .. I guess it's just the emotional attachment/reactions .. when someone in the thread is unwell or depressed or going through something major, I tend to worry .. sometimes excessively :-(
I think we all do though .. wouldn't be human if we didn't care about others ..
WOO HOO .. Lorna is coming home EARLY .. the boss is sending all home due to the heat ..
I do think it's a fine day to watch 'Fried Green Tomatoes' .. love that movie :-)
Stay well and safe everyone
~M~
Same here "M" re worrying about those on the thread..hard getting attached to someone then they leave and you still worry about them, as you say, that's what makes up our body chemistry!
So many have gone over the years and I still remember them fondly..
From the bottom of my heart I hope you do stay
Applesauce done, yes, worth it
Ruby who once frequented this thread posted an applesauce cake, recipe make 2 or 1 large
Got to say it's the yummiest cake ever and beyond moist. I always make a batch and a half and freeze some, you take it out of the freezer and it's like the day you baked it..
I have the recipe out, was going to make a batch, only thing missing is allspice so when in town I'll pick it up
She had raisins and nuts but I buy a bag of mixes fruit and nuts which also has cranberries and just love it
Mouth watering
Just had bath, (Mosquitos and sweating while in the garden)sure needed it, doing my hair then likely head to town for groceries and mulch...when Roger and I were married Friday night meant stopping in at the local fish and chips restaurant, always wrapped in newspaper to keep them hot, now that I'm on my own it seems it's Chinese..one meal last 2 meals..tonight is the night I guess
Can almost SMELL it ..
D'ya wanna share Ruby's recipe ??
I don't can mine, I freeze it in Ziploc bags .. easy peasy ..
Mouth watering re those apples >.
~
I just renewed for a year ..
Do I hear a collective .. hurrah LoL
My 10th anniversary year to boot!
Lorna is home, the air is on, the dogs/cat are looked after .. life is good :-) well, except for the heat .
~M~
Better for me for small freezer downstairs
Doubt Ruby would mind as she posted it on this thread
You just have to make it
RUBY's Applesauce cake
1/2 cup butter
2 cups of sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups sifted flower
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
1 tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
2 1/2 cups applesauce (approx 1 med size jar)
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c chopped walnuts
Note from Betty-OPTIONAL
( I decided one day to buy a bag of mixed fruit/nuts which also had cranberries in it rather than just raisins and walnuts)
Cream butter beating well as you add sugar, and eggs (smooth)
Sift dry ingredients together and them to creamed mixture alternating with applesauce
Turn batter into lightly greased and floured pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until done
Let cool
Great recipe for freezing as it remains moist
Mmmmm homemade applesauce. Totally worth it.
OMG I'm eating lunch and it still made me drool all over myself.
Can you hear my 'hurrah' and my singing oh happy days
Dianne, Debbie and I needed you on the thread as to let us know what weather you are sending our way.
Karen, it's good, plenty of apples on the tree
Have about 8 more flowering crabs, sure glad they are not mature enough to have apples..this winter they may be munchies for the birds
Holy, next door neighbours have been away at the cottage, only home long enough to do laundry..I've been outside a lot working on gardens, how to heck did they erect a pool?
Waiting till the twins come outside and ask if they play with dolls?? Mom gave me these 2 battery operated beauties , so adorable when turned on and move their heads and arms..thought I'd give them each one..have nobody else that plays with dolls
We just had about 90 min of heavy sheets of rain plus lots of T&L. AC is on, pups each have a tartar buster treat ...... life is good.
M didn't you hear a big wooo hoooo from me?
Oh Judy I am anxiously waiting to hear about Sturgis. Bet you had a blast!
Hope your visit with Todd's sisters is going well. Do they sew too?
Went with a good friend last night to a Township meeting. He and Deb want to winterize Frank's cottage and add a sleeping loft. It was 1 of the most misinformed disorganized meetings I have ever been to and I have attended a lot. There was out and out lying going on and it didn't sound like Frank's application at all. They have put off his application until the next meeting. This is my friend who was teaching in Cairo.Having done battle with this committee a few times I sure understand how defeated he feels.
Having a lazy day. Didn't sleep too well... I was so enamoured with the meteorite shower I couldn't get to sleep.Sat on the dock with the boys watching it - not as spectacular as it was touted to be but I sure enjoyed it.
Going to power down - I can hear T&L in the distance.
D
They will surely think those dolls are special.
Almost 90 here. No air so can't do much but sit under a fan and drink ice water. We do have a window unit upstairs and one in the bedroom down, rest of the house just gets by. We have so few days like this it's really isn't too bad.
Glad you decided to renew Marilynne. You would be much missed if you left.
I've been in bed all day. Got a flu-like bug I think from the heat which is really bad.
The peso is way down so I paid tony in dollars. He's happy. It's almost 50% more. Figure I get paid in dollars so he gets them, too.
This is our weather that kills some of our plants. Someone told me they literally boil in the ground. Don't know if that's true but we always lose some. The sprouting tomatoes and most of the jackfruit are in the shade.
Tony spent the morning in the shade using the chipper on dead palm chunks. I use it like peat or coir, either in a soiless mix or with soil for plants in the ground. Nice to have a good supply and Tony is grateful for the shade. My house is still lacking in certain amenities but we have got lots of shade. When I moved in here there was none. Now we have lots and it's a relief from this heat and shelter for lots of birds. Still too hot to do much.
Helper showed up briefly this morning but then left. He's someone who lives nearby and joined a friend who had asked for work when he passed by. Tony said he was not concerned about him but with so many with problems with drugs/alcohol I am careful. They did do a lot of hard work and I really appreciate it. If he shows up again we have work for him. But I can't blame him for not wanting to work in this weather. If it's like this tomorrow, Tony will go home early. He had to leave early yesterday and I slept all morning today but this is ridiculous. Need also to check on installing the new a/c - if I am able to wake up.
Microwaving liver for the dogs. I might have a mango and some yogurt but I don't have much appetite - a side effect of the heat that I don't mind.
hugs, Katie
P.S. I signed up for Netflix and was enjoying it when I got shut out. They said I'd changed my email address and password. I hadn't but they ignored my emails. They don't have chat and their phone number only goes to a place that tries to sell you stuff. Very disappointing. I had to contact Paypal to be sure they are not given any money. Hard to believe they are so successful after this experience.
Looks as though extreme temps are with us all
I'm sure Katie tony appreciates that you pay him in $$$ ..with feeding and caring for so many it must be overwhelming? Are there jobs such as factory work in your region? Hope tomorrow the flu has left you.
Susan, did you get the rental $$ back..you leave for the week startingmonday right?
Karen, do you get a breeze from the lake? Bit of a/c helps, at least if you can no longer stand the heat you can go in the bedroom ..problem here is if a/c is on the main floor is nice but it's a freezer downstairs, almost need a sweater in the craftrrom
Went to town, Drats half way there I remembered I didn't take my wallet, second time in about a month I do something so stupid...Grrrr
2nd time to town I managed to get all done in record time so decided to stop at a nursery, passed a shrub that had the sweetest fragrance, almost like bugbane..reg $39.99 but was 40% off so it had to come home with me.its called Vanilla Spice summersweet..will grow anywhere from 3'-6' so will have to be watchful of where I put it..sales lady says it does well in our neck of the woods, butterflies like it they say
Started shopping at Food Basics, i find it so much cheaper
Bought what I needed and homeward bound..stopped raining for a bit so decided to unload the mulch and bring in groceries before next rain fall
Have Ruby's Cake in the oven, makes to nice loafs
Enough to make another batch tomorrow
Guess it's time to eat Chinese
hooooooray, Marilynne is Staying!! wooooo hoooooooo!! :-)
Just for that, I'm gonna send you some homemade icecream (Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, that I'm making today). This is my first attempt at using this new ice cream maker that Bob won in April at his bowling banquet :-) So many recipes look so yummy!
Betty - the earliest I will expect the rent $$ back is Monday.
Bob got a thank you card & $100 for the job he's doing at one of the company's customers - woo hoo again! (I'm saying that a lot today lol).
We may be borrowing a car carrier for our motorhome from the same family we bought the motorhome from. Their next door neighbour is wanting to buy it - they haven't told him yet that it's $800! Yikes - when Peter was going to sell it to us, I guess he was going to give us the "friends & family discount". $300 - which we couldn't afford at the time. Now, even less so
That is indeed good news Susan, will help out if you don't get the fees back by Monday. Feels good to have some sunshine in your life for a change...let me know how you make out with the ice cream maker..often wondered if they work.
ice cream - oh YUM......
I did a really silly though. After ingredients were ready, it said to pour the liquid ingredients into the bowl. Well....... I didn't notice it said "Freezer" bowl....... I poured it into the the plastic thing that looked like a bowl...... what a mess! Lost about 1/4th of the ingredients, and what a mess bringing it over to the sink and then washing all the parts LOL
When I was sure everything was clean, I got the freezer bowl out of the freezer, started everything up then poured in the balance of the ingredients LOL Live & learn, eh?
Anyway, got it all frozen, and added the peanut butter candies, and had to taste it (you would-a too, right?) so yummy! And fresh!
This "maker" comes with 2 of 1 1/2 quart freezer bowls, so I can make 3 quarts of ice cream - each batch takes 15 minutes (after the ingredients are ready). Beginning to end (without the mess lol) it took about 30 minutes. Easy Peasy.......
Oh yes - I'll be there, with 3 quarts of ice cream - have enough ingredients for another, or should I make some black cherry ice cream?
Glad the baking and ice cream making went well ...
Susan .. is Remy missing his people? I am going to have a LOooooooooooong night .. all 2 dogs are missing Gord .. I swear, every little noise and they launch to the backdoor .. and, since the air comes off n on, that seems to be the trigger right now .. ain't no way I'm turning it off !!!
guess I'll try to lay down once more . nothing worse than being wakened by dogs barking at the back door !!!
TOODLES
~M~
Remy is missing his people, but he's also settling in with us well.
is anyone else having problems with Google search? "webpage not available" when I try to search. I do get to Google, just won't do anything for me.
I'm having all sorts of problems with almost everything. Even typing this. kb
Morning everyone,
Just finishing my coffee, yummy cake tastes delicious then off I go to the Gravenhurst Festval..hoping to be home by noon, not that far away
Had a few neck coolants so put them in ice cold water, will bring them with me, am sure Paul/Penny can use them while sitting on their site..I'll pick coffee and bring along a 1/2 loaf of cake for them as well.
Hope temps have cooled in your neck of the woods..
Gab in a bit
The internet was completely DOWN here on Thursday evening into early Friday morning.
Can imagine there will be a JUMP in the number of births next May !!
Anyway .. the major provider here (tbaytel) blamed it on the Persid Meteorite shower .. who knows, I just know that I got the last 2 issues of 'ZOOMER' magazine read from front to back :-)
Dianne .. DH and myself once went to a Municipality (Township) meeting .. we were the ONLY 2 people in the audience .. we were there to ask to have a light put at the end of our country road where it intersected the sorta main road .. apparently we were to have submitted in writing to Council BEFORE hand .. at any rate, 2 months later, a light was put up, and, 4 days following that, our neighbour hit a deer at that corner, had there have been NO light, we would have had to help him out using car head lights !
Slept little last night .. Piper and Zoey slept beside me in such a way as to pull the covers off me .. am in for a loooong day ..
Take care all
~M~
Just trying to catch up. Will have to go back and read more......Have been in bed since Thursday afternoon.
DH did fine with his surgery, but I had a cup of coffee waiting. Two sips and felt
this awful pain in my stomach, thought maybe just a gas bubble. Tossed the coffee
half way. Got DH in the car and started driving home...and almost fell asleep!!! So not
me, and scared me to pieces. Got him home and I laid down, slept four hours. Still
had stomach pain on an 8 out of 10 level. Couldn't eat.....and then it started. Vomiting and
the runs at same time, and this kepi up until last Friday night. Was in bed and sleeping
when I could in between running.
Supposed to go to a wedding today, Shane is in it, and want to see him all tuxedod up...but
don't think am going to make it, and don't want to spread whatever this is to the wedding!!!
Might just send DH with the camera.
Will try and go back and read more....but I am alive. I think....every muscle and bone in the body is aching. As Katie said...yep, I think the flu ran (literally) right through me.
katie - so sorry to hear you're not well........ pain's kicking your butt, eh? ((((((Hugs)))))) I'd love to be there to help.
Debbie - sounds like you've got a major flu - sleeping 4 hours, cramping tummy and throwing up/runs - poor you.........glad your DH did fine with his surgery, but geeze, sounds like you both need a caregiver at the moment.....
Marilynne - no internet? YUCK! Happy to hear you got a light at the corner, but still an accident - glad no one was hurt (yes, the deer)....
Betty - sending some ice cream - very yummy too :-)
We're still sorting, and I want clutter OUT of the living room....... still spitting a bit, but the main rainfall has stopped - had a thunder boomer last night - wow it was noisy
A ZUCCHINI to feed the nation !!!
Betcha it was 'photo shopped ??
But, Ohio might just grow'em that big :-)
95F here in the NORTH Country .. feels like you are walking into a wall of breathlessness when you go outside.
We picked up Swiss Chalet while in town .. got Lorna.s BDay cake ,, celebrate tomorrow even though it's on Monday, but, she works. .. Hope I get the pic on the cake OK ..
Off to clean a litter box .. yay .. NOT
