Just went and bought lottery ticket, going to win the big one tonight...

Back to being lazy, early night

Night night

Verona, ON

Susan I hope you are taking a video of all of this or at least photos. Well she can renege verbally a photo will tell it all.

Boys are great just very busy. Tomorrow we will be able to go on our big walk where they can wade or swim if they want. The elderly couple who have the cottage after me have been up for a week. They are well into their80's and frail. I am sure Diesel outweighs both of them. They want the boys to come down and visit *Diesel thinks it is his property anyway. They keep treats for them I take 1 down to visit. Diesel and Chaos are not usually on a leash but when they are here they sure are.

Think the ducks have got a little mixed up a huge flock in a V heading south.

I am sure it was difficult for your aunt M. I know DH's mother got quite confused when there were too many people at a celebration.

Wild parsnip is going crazy here. It is everywhere. Poor little Duke has quite the burn from wading through some of it. Its on his belly so he wants to lick it and break the blisters.

Safe travels and best of luck at the dog shows Deb.

Oh Sharon I would have no idea how to train or entertain a small dog. My boys are trained early but sometimes they get excited and forget their party manners. I made a big mistake with Diesel. He is now 152 lb. I taught him to jump up and give me a hug and a kiss. I don't mind but I think its a bit hard for other ladies to handle. All of the boys are leery of men except for our regular UPS driver and Steve my 'borrowed son'. Happy to hear your DH is home. I hope you are taking time for yourself every day.

LK I know this is way out there but how about starting a Go Fund Me page for them. Have they spoken to a Plastic Surgeon who might consider taking them on well for a reduced fee. Both your sister and nephew have worked so hard and they need to be rewarded. How are you doing? Some days worse with pain than others?

Betty has your mind settled down and got off the traveling track?

Need to get the boys out.
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pain has been bad this week. Been using a cane to walk with.
I will mention a go fund me, to them.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Susan .. if Remy gets 'finicky' try some cheese, kind of a 'magical' thing with dogs .. well, at least ours :-)

Dianne .. do the older couple have 'facilities', as in running water and bathroom?
Here bouts, 'camp' is ruffin it ..
Sounds like they'll be happy to see the pups ..

OMIGOSH, poor Duke and the wild parsnip .. didn't realise it was in the water .. it's in the ditches here ..

LindaK your pain sure sounds like mine before my hip replacement .. hope you get a surgical apt soon.

Dull day here, fog, then sun, probably will warm up .. heading into town in a bit .. hope everyone enjoys their day

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all, geewillikers I lost the morning

Great suggestion Dianne, there must be some agency who can help out .. Never heard of the one you mentioned but am sure they would see this as a worthwhile cause.

Mom went for supper at Greg and Mel's, I worried about sophie and Ned, they are big dogs and love to get attention, mom also is frail, wouldn't take much to topple her over

How are you doing with the teeth? Have you worked your way to steak yet?

Is wild parsnip like our Queen Ann's lace..see there was a warning re touching queen Ann's lace June said, maybe it's wild parsnip they were talking about as her hubby pulled something out of the gardens for her and broke out in boils

Doggies will enjoy every bit of their visit as will your neighbors

Woke up, few drops of rain so decided to paint forawhile, shortly after there was no signs of rain
Cut grass, did the ditches, all the yard that has areas I can't get with the rider, even done some of neighbors, no sooner thought 'glad that is behind me' and started to put tools away did I feel a few drops, sky is dark so bound to come.

Think I earned an afternoon nap!
Problem with that as Katie says, hard to sleep through the night

Maybe lunch, hot bath to clean myself up and see how I feel then

Could quilt the candle piece so I have something to hand sew tonight

Decisions decisions

Yard sure looks nice though

Never did get the WOW factor from the gardens this year

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

well, Remy's not 152 lbs, but he is a handful, and he likes to be carried. Carrying him down the stairs when he goes upstairs is a challenge, but I manage. There are good railings to hold onto and he doesn't squirm.
Sometimes we just want him in our suite, so he will come and eat with us, etc.
Last night we took the night off, and this weekend we're going to get really busy getting stuff out and stored.Hope to get the new wardrobes in and get the shelving units out of here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Busy as usual Susan
With both of you working you will be amazed by weekends end how much you've accomplished

Linda" DH -bil passed this morning
They left at 11am for Springfield Missouri
Says she didn't forget her compression socks, hoping they help

Godson who carves with chainsaw is at a show about 1 1/2 hrs away, had I thought of it earlier I might have taken a ride..few nice pieces
Wouldn't mind getting one tor Paul for xmas

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Sorry to hear about Linda's DH's bil passing (I think I got that right?)

Yes, busy as usual.....
I have to install Win7 in a computer for Doug. He said he needed a computer, and we bought a 2nd hand one from a computer recycling co, but in the meantime he went to Visions and bought a Win8..... comfuses him, but he's trying to learn it. This one is for a friend, so we'll still sell it to him.

Verona, ON

Wild parsnip does look a lot like Queen Ann's Lace. Its flower is usually yellow but I have seen some white mixed in. The WP Duke got into was along the shoreline. He was just barreling along and not listening to commands.

M it is a true camp - no running water, outhouse and there is minimal electricity. Vince jerry rigged that up somehow. Vince also came up with this ingenious outdoor shower. Somehow he brings water up from the lake and it is heated by a propane tank. It looks like it is right out of MASH.They come up so rarely the boys think that is 'their' property.

Oh my Susan I can see you now toting Remy up those stairs, Did they not teach him how to go up and down stairs? Glad you and Bob took the night off.

Betty I am sure it is going to rain - all of my joints are cranky today.

I am going to have a nap. I can read all night if I wish then. Pups are telling me they want me to go lay on the bed. lol I am reading a book right now on Joseph Stalin's daughter. It is very interesting.

My cleaning lady who is a gem did something to my sound system and it won't play. I've got it out and down on the dining room table so will look at it later. She can be a little rough. Right now I am listening to CDs on my DVD player. Can't be without my tunes.Have Van Morrison on now.

I meant to go to our little farmers' market this morning but there was a bad accident right in front of it. It took ages to get to Foodland so I came a back way home. It is also the Cattails Festival today with a parade. Sure hope it wasn't someone involved in that.

That's it going to rummage for food and then a nap.
Dianne

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Sometimes Remy just doesn't want to come here - he misses his family - so I carry him down to try to get him over his depression... Bob let him upstairs this morning, because he was whimpering so much. We don't want him leaving any "presents" for us to clean up, upstairs. Besides which - we think it's healthier for him to get used to us here. It's just the first few days after all.
Should be interesting when we go camping from the 17th to the 21st lol They say he goes camping with them, but I've never seen them take him in their car and it's been a month........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Joints, know how that feels Dianne, had my bath, rained like heck and now sun coming out but this old gal is suffering..as you say, sleep while you can..for me it's more putting my legs up, should be going to town to buy a body pillow.

We have a farmers market near foodland as well, on Friday nights 4-8pm
Sure hope accident was minor

Going to key in wild parsnip and see what it looks like

You are better than I to attemp working on the sound system, I haven't a clue, takes all my time to turn it on..bought speakers for outside, takes me 1/2 day to figure them out.

Camp sounds lovely but a bit primitive for an elderly couple.

Always something going on for you Susan, you must wake up each morning wondering what next..

Victoria Harbour, ON

My godson is at a festival, does chainsaw art
Here is a few pieces

Those are beautiful carvings. Wish I was closer.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

He does beautiful work, Betty!

Yes, Betty - no rest for the wicked lol

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

At the county fair my grands enter every year, there is a carver who does these all during the fair and then they are auctioned off the last day. Several years ago he did this woodpecker and I wanted it so bad. I was lucky nobody bid against me. It is very dark because we put Linseed oil on it every year.

Thumbnail by siliolegma
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is very pretty.

mulege, Mexico

Nice woodpecker. We have a lot of eagles nesting nearby. I have the most trees and bushes around so a lot of birds hang out here where they have some shelter. They also share the dogs' food. It is really funny to see the dogs sharing pans of food with a bunch of sparrows.

It is sweltering here. We have no urgent work to do so we concentrate on keeping the plants alive. I'm starting some fall seeds. Cherry tomatoes today; checking on my jackfruit trees and little flame trees. Did a little tree trimming. Doing more thinking than working.

My big poker game starts soon. Wish me luck.

hugs, katie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sending lots of luck your way.

Verona, ON

Katie 1 of my nephews on W's side has a great gig. He organizes poker tournaments on cruise ships. He was a master bridge player in his early teens. If he was late coming home from school my SIL usually found him playing cards at the Seniors' building. He mutually agreed with the HS school to leave the day he turned 16. He took a factory job and retired at with a full pension at 48. Hope you have a great night Katie.

Betty I am on top of the covers and looking for something good to watch too. Hope the sandman finds me tonight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dozed off, on the covers as well Dianne, windows open listening to street noises.. Love having the windows closed. Woke up as I was dreaming of roger's aunt Hazel, we we're neighbours fot 20 years at the lake, she now has Alzheimer's ..two of her children and spouses moved in, big home, 2 floors..sure hope it's not a sign of something

Woodpecker is nice Karen, bet you treasure him

Paul does the same, brings wood and works on a piece to promote his skill. He works full time, about 200 construction men under him, this is his relaxation.

Did say he has a piece for me, we just have to meet up, he knows I enjoy gardening so he had lots of options. He is the one I made the eagle for a few christmas's ago and the snowshoe last Christmas

Good luck Katie, win big..didn't win a thing on the lottery last night, sigh! Dianne, sounds like an interesting job to have after retirement..does he get to be on the ships?

mulege, Mexico

Well, I came in ahead of 1,000 others but didn't win anything. Maybe tomorrow.

Still catching up from traveling but doing better.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Saw the 1,000 before I read the post, Drats, was excited for you..always another day. Lol

Wonder if Dianne found sleep?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Dianne, did you get any sleep? Lordy I was up/down like a toilet seat, glad morning has come

beautiful day out there, hope you all get some of the same

Going to do some clean up in the gardens after I make a quick trip to foodland..not sure why I keep thinking meatloaf, haven't had any in years,...maybe make smaller portions in lg cupcake tin and freeze some

Not much exciting here

What do you all have planned for the day?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Going fabric shopping!!!! Got orders for four purses!!!! So I will be busy for a while. Still knitting too....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fabric shopping sure puts a smile on ones face
Double the fun when it's for pre-sales
Weather I gather is nice for you to venture out

Walked the gardens and took a few photo's

1-tree laden with apples, will make applesauce for supper
3-new plant stand, think I shall buy another for back deck
Mostly phlox in bloom

Decided that I'd go to Walmart and drop into darlene's for coffee

Wow that tree is sure loaded!! I'd be making applesauce for a week! Yard looks wonderful Betty.
Love the phlox.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I agree Barb. Betty, your yard is beautiful.

Verona, ON

Nope Betty sleep evaded me except for about an hour at 3 am. The rental cottages are in love with fireworks. It starts before dark and last ones were about 2:30 am. Because of where the house is situated you would swear someone was on the dock lighting them off. Pups go beserk.

The boys are up, fed and walked and of course now I feel like I can sleep. Think I will try to get some sleep now.

Exciting news Barb. I am so glad you are getting out today.

Betty I buy at the $ store tiny aluminum pans for meatloaf. It works well as I don't have to cook it right then if I don't want - just freeze and cook later.

Make sure you all do something nice for yourself today ladies.
Dianne

Morning arrived at 6:30am for me ..
Smokey is a force to be reckoned with when his tummy says, FEED ME !!! He gets this guttural meow (almost like a Siamese, going on)
His preference right now, is WEINERS !! .. probably totally unhealthy for him, but, at his age and stage of life, I will give him what he wants ..'He had scrambled egg and cheese yesterday ..

H O T here .. will be close to 90F and I am hanging clothes on the line in direct sunlight, about feel faint when I'm done, just now waiting for the dark load, then am washing a bedspread ..

Lorna is cleaning her truck, and Gord is tending his gardens ..

LOE Phlox Betty .. your yard looks aces ..

Dianne .. dontcha wish it'd rain the whole time the firecracker folks are there !!
Poor pups ..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good Luck, katie!!!

Off to church this morning, and I have a clear conscience - sure is nice having the law on our side, re: where we live. I'm smiling - and it's a beautiful day - we got most of our stuff sorted, and the rest will be a "relative breeze". Still not great - looks like we're hardly unpacked lol To most people yes, but it's apparently 750 sq ft (someone suggested that's what the size is), and putting a whole houseful of furniture and "stuff" was more than a tight squeeze.
Going to see about getting another month rent free - housesitting, pet sitting, and expecting us to pay full rent when we didn't have a sink for the 1st month and they wouldn't pay for plumbing to be done? AND no lockable door separating us from them.......(they were supposed to leave the door out so we could install it but didn't, and the law says THEY are to install it) SO illegal. It doesn't matter that it is an illegal suite - there are so many in the City that they don't care anymore.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Been to town, visited Darlene, made meatloaf (great tip Dianne, will buy some next time I'm in town) had a call from Liz my girlfriend in Ireland, had lunch and it time to put the trailer on rider and start some garden clean up..maybe if I tire myself out I will sleep tonight,

Was asked to meet up with godson next Saturday, he will be in grave hurst at the waterfront selling his wares, only about an hour away, nice ride

Dianne wasn't firecrackers last night but young ones having a party, just had to remember the days I enjoyed doing same and enjoy listening to them.

Met Andrew my plowman in walmart, reminding me the white stuff Is just around the corner. Lol

Called Greg, Darlene has a 2 snowmobile trailer and said if Greg wants it he can have it..he will go in the morning and check it out

Yes, thank you all, the gardens are a nice place to be today,
Best I go out and get at it before I want to nap

Let's hope Susan you are pleased with the results when your landlords get back
S

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm going to sit Grace down, ask her to listen to me first, then tell her facts, not ungently, just facts. 1. The City of Calgary has so many homeless people that they really are not concerned about "illegal suites". That's why they're putting forth legislation to legalize those that are found to be covering all the requirements needed - this one will, once Bob & I, as well as they, conform to certain standards.
2. We were not to have provided the plumbing nor the door separating upper from lower suites. This is the responsibility of the Landlords, - we should not have been required to do it.
3. Doing housesitting, petsitting, and paying rent for our suite was overdoing it and we should negotiate this. Compensation of $200 for petsitting (normally would be $30 a day) should also be looked at. Not paying us for this until they return in Sept is not right.
4. Regardless of what the lease says (2 months), the legal notice for us to receive is 3 months, and this does not have anything to do with the Damage Deposit.
5. They cannot reciprocate on us for having called the Health & Safety department.

My daughter is a paralegal in a Real Estate office, in Winnipeg, and I will tell Grace that this is why we know these things - Michelle looked them up (she didn't - it came from me and other concerned friends of ours in Calgary, but Grace doesn't need to know that - she'll just think it's an informed and concerned daughter of mine)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess it's just me Susan, sometimes one thinks they would like to rent part of their home for extra $$ but when it comes down to having someone there it's a different story! I for one could not..we all live differently and have different needs..apartment buildings you know what you are getting into, suites that are shared with landlords not so much.

Talking earnestly with her likely will not work once you've told her you've inquired (even if it is your daughter) she will get her claws out, almost guaranteed..even though she and hubby may have planned on doing the upgrades being told they must, well I can see you getting your notice even though it is 3 months and as you know someone you are not jiving with can be pure hell, 3 months is a lifetime.

Wish you the very best and will be thrilled if I'm wrong

Break time, soaking wet from swetting, hot out there to be pulling weeds and clearing beds

Another hour or so and I should be done the one front garden
Tomorrow I'll go in and buy wood chips in hope it keeps growth to a minimum

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Anything I have growing is in pots, and red.
Hibiscus tree,Tuberous Begonias, Mandevilla, and Maters for Amelia.

Beautiful Karen

I have 4 big begonia's, messy things aren't they but so pretty in bloom
I left them in pots, ones in shade doing better than those in sun

Do you take them inside in the fall?? Maned villa is beautiful..can see red is your favorite color for plants.. So enjoy tomatoe sandwhiches

Have a couple of geraniums I will bring in
I'm not the best at inside plants though

Just put my equipment away
Have beans/carrots/potatoes to cook

Trying not to nap

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Gorgeous Karen. I love tuberous begonias. I haven't had one in a couple of years now since moving here but I do just love them.....

'Had fun shopping. Went to a quilt shop I hadn't been to since I last met Cheriffic there a couple of years or so ago. Norm is such an enabler!!!! I came home with fabrics for the first bag, a kit for one of the Row by Row patterns (It is adorable - witches legs sticking out of a caldron with bats and bubbles) and two wall hanging panels one of which I gave to my friend upstairs. The one I kept is a panel by Jacqueline Paton who is a designer from here in NH. I love her work. She designs for Red Rooster. I'll try for a photo tomorrow when I get one of Thunder's block.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Only one I bring in is the Hibiscus tree...after I give it a big trim. I do have a geranium (red) too but it's between blooms right now. The tomato is a grape tomato. Amelia loves them so I plant a couple for her every year. Just have to get her to wait until they are red.

Tuberous Begonias my kids get me every year for mother's day. The Mandevilla I got my self as I do love them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Give that Norm a hug..so glad you got out and enjoyed the day buT also came home with mega supplies..look forward to seeing what you got

So much for meatloaf..while shopping I saw packets of spices for meatloaf well, in the garbage it all went, could hardly eat what I had on my plate, mad all the others in containers ready to add potatoes and mixed veggies..nope, no sense freezing something I know I will throw away, might as well throw it away now..hate throwing away food

Victoria Harbour, ON

Karen are these tuberous begonia's? Do you winter them
