We measure by length not weight. It was 18 1/2". We've caught bigger but not in several years the lake is so much more built up now and fished much more.
Amanda did win the jackpot.
Guys also went out and finally found morels after it rained all last night. It's been very dry here until now we needed it.
Best/Worse/What did I Learn today? Chat with friends new/old
Congratulations to Amanda. Yum on the morels.
Well, we had a little excitement this morning. A tornado went through town, but not much damage here. It hit Mexico first, and it did a lot of damage.

~M~
"M", Boerne, was hit pretty hard, lots of flooding and damage there.
in Mexico? hope not near Katie...........
Raining here - I'm at the old place and was going to take stuff over. Usually I carry to top of stairs, walk down the 4 steps, then get the stuff....... would be difficult if it's raining - don't want to get stuff wet....... and can't walk quickly Down stairs with stuff....... in fact, can't walk down stairs with stuff anyway. Need to hold onto railing with both hands, walking sideways.
No. Not near Katie. 7 miles from our home.
Oh goodness lindakay, sure glad you are ok..those photos you linked us to looks beyond frightening..could you hear the rumbling?
Be careful Susan, falling could be the end of your mobility..
M sure hope the news article helps bring the necessary focus to Lorena's plight.
Karen, queen of the fishing derby sure is gorgeous..her smile tells it all!
Katie, you are indeed blessed having Michael and tony in your life, but I'm sure they feel the same..have to check what naked bulbs are??
Already had my bath, in bed, ready to snooze
Car suppose to be ready tomorrow
Chatted for a long time at the fabric shop
Bough sm bar refrigerator for craft room, milk for coffee, pop etc ..means less trips upstairs
Never stopped..pouring rain/more tomorrow
Thank you Betty, my lovely DGD Amanda, mother to Sweet Caroline, Jojo and Becca. She is and always has been an outdoors sports person. Crack shot with gun and bow and as you see a good fisher as well.

Slept all afternoon and woke up with another good thought about dealing with the retirement situation. This whole situation has been huge for helping me to work through some major issues about abuse - of myself and of others.
Naked ladies are a pink amaryllis. The foliage comes up in the spring, then dies back. Then a beautiful pink flower comes up on a long stem. Because the foliage has died back the flower stands alone on its stalk - hence the term "naked ladies."
Boy, that wasn't a nap it was making up for almost no sleep last night. I feel so much better. And I love it when I thought that has been meandering around in my mind comes out clearly.
hugs, katie
Betty, the storm and tornado was very loud. It woke us up at 5 this morning. Very scary as it was still dark outside.
Two days after I moved into what is now my house we got hit by a hurricane which blew off the temporary roof. I lay in bed holding my Amma doll trusting that the wind and the rain would pass and I'd be safe. They did and I was. Lost a few things but the dogs and I were fine. Sounds awful doesn't it? However, the little house I'd moved from two days earlier was completely under water. I would have lost everything, likely including our lives. During the clean-up, I gave hourly prayers of thanks to Whoever was taking care of me.
During the next big hurricane several years later, I got held up on the road about seventy miles north of home when the hurricane came in faster and harder than had been predicted. While I read books and handed out boxes of crayons to the local children, Tony stayed at my house and took care of the animals. There were those who couldn't believe he stayed away from his family to take care of mine but he had 27 relatives staying in their two-bedroom home so he might have been happy to have the road to my house washed out, making it hard for him to leave.
Dana wrote to me that they've finished building the paved road from town to our little suburb. It will no doubt wash out with the next big storm but it will be nice while we have it and it's given a lot of work to local men. Life in Mexico. La buena vida.
It's dusk here. Very quiet and peaceful. I can't believe how lucky I am.
hugs, katie
yes, very lucky, and very blessed! Wow - 2 days.... that's a really close call!!
Betty - I am being Very careful - that's why I don't carry the boxes down the stairs. Falling scares the beejeesus out of me......... Don't want it to happen ever again!
Wow, you guys. Glad everyone is OK.
Susan, I do not carry anything up or down stairs. I have two rooms upstairs, my DH's man's cave and a guest bedroom. I put items at the bottom of the stairs and when a younger person stops by I have them haul them to the top of the stairs. I can go up the stairs much easier than going down them.
Katie, I think verbal abuse is much worse than physical abuse. And yes, you are now blessed with special individuals in your life. I had some pink naked ladies and they just disappeared. They did bloom here but the bloom was hot lived. Probably needs a cooler climate.
My leg has been giving me fits today. And I was also very cold. My body does a weird thunk. When I am not feeling well, I get cold. Then I got to bed, get warm, fall asleep and wake up feeling better. My brain knows I am not smart enough to stop and rest just because I am not feeling well.
We have had rain just about every day for the last two weeks. But just lite rain. I think Texas's drought is over.
Linda, so glad you and your family are safe. Those photos from Mexico were unbelievable.
Betty I am so glad you have found yourself a reasonable worker. Now take advantage and stop and smell the roses. If just for a moment.
I am sure the article will get some positive results for Lorna.
It is past my bedtime. Just wanted to say hello and send you all hugs and prayers for safety. Sharon
Morning all
Sun shining, look out and everything is a lush green after all the rain.
Like you Sharon we've had rain off/on for a few weeks and weatherman says sake for another week..storm brewing, likely coming from lindakay' s way, thunderstorms later this afternoon and tomorrow.
Sharon I am much the same, when I get tired I can't seem to warm up, means I'm tired and need sleep. Bet your yard is outstanding with the rain you've had. Smiling, already walked the gardens this morning, yes there are rose bushes but no roses yet to smell. Lol. Will take your advice and do so though.
Ohhh hummer at my plants ..too cute
Katie, bet you although you are quite comfortable where you are you are getting anxious to get home to your furies..any idea when you might head home?
Susan, do you think you will be in the house by the weekend?
Debbie, time you drop in with an update
Lindakay, did you get the appointment? Have you been to town to see the damage yourself?
Barb took out fabrics to do your block, will take a photo later to see if what I chose will be ok..for background color, white or beige?
Giggling to myself, all the work outside is done, just have to focus on weeding, normally I have to water every morning but Mother Nature even helped me out with that so maybe I will get some sewing done today
Will call the stained glass studio, need supplies so I can change from sewing to stained glass for a bit
Hopefully they will call saying my car is ready and I can pick it up then drop into the shop..think they may be closed Monday and Tuesday though
What have you planned?
Must run, garbage day and kitties are growling at each other, want out
I think Thimbleberry fabrics go better with beige Betty. Thanks for asking.
I'm searching for a good butterfly pattern for Mittsy. Think I may have found one.....
Going to be an easy day today. Think I may be getting Norm's upper respiratory infection. Hoping to head it off!!!!!
When I was at the fabric shop yesterday Lordy they had beautiful butterfly fabric bit large print and she only wants 6" blocks
Oh no, let's hope you can, do you have meds for it?
Karen, soil would do anything for morels..tradition when her mom was alive was an outing for her and I? How I miss those days
Gals are coming to sew today, not sure if this was the week they changed..brought downstairs pop, milk to put in the bar fridge I got yesterday..gee I'm spoiling them. Lol
Morning everyone.
No, i have not seen the damage, other than what is on the news. Most of Texas has some flooding. San Antonio, Dallas, Houston. ...
I used to love hunting for Morels even though I don't like eating them. Hubby and I did go looking but I soon wore out and went back to the car to wait. They are only OK to me so I leave them to the ones who really enjoy them. My nephew drove over to visit with his cousins and brought me a bag of Morels too. I cooked those in the morning and then my boys decided to go look too. The rain made the difference and I soon had more to cook.
My niece lives in the Dallas area but she and family were in FL for a wedding.
She may be coming back to flooded areas. Tell her to be careful.
Sharon - wish I had some young person around all the time to take things up and down stairs. As it is, I don't. A friend of mine asked me why I don't have my kids do it - they live 1. half way across the country, 2. in the next province - so both of them are too far away to help lol
Betty - we HAVE to be totally out of here and cleaned on the weekend. Kristen moves in on Monday, and we need Sunday to clean. As it is, I have 2 ladies coming this afternoon to help start cleaning cupboards, and I'm going to sand some plastering (mudding) that was done on the weekend
My oldest son just called to say his Dad just got the pet results for his cancer. He has cancer in his stomach, liver, pancreas and intestine. It is not operable or curable. He said they are going to hit it hard with radiation to try to put it in remission, but promises are made. Both of my boys are going to go see him, and try to make ammends.
Sorry for your sons sake, Linda.
Oh LK my stomach just flipped and I got the shivers. The radiation that Warren received was just to help lessen the pain and hopefully stunt the tumours from growing. Sending positive thoughts to your family.
Prayers coming you way lindakay, be difficult for the boys but a must!
Lordy just got my car back, had to check it out twice, make sure it was mine. Lol
Detailed, buffed, looks like new.
Just put a/c on, no sense fighting heat trying to sleep
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.
Glad you got your car back Betty.
My prayers too LK......
Hmmm
Knock at the door, helper looking for $10, milk/bread
Gave it to him again..shaking my head
Did say he couldn't make a habit of this
I hope you LOCKED the door Betty .. I am NOT liking the feeling I am getting about this guy .. I watch too many Criminal Minds shows I guess.
Please just be careful ..
Warm day here .. A/C on for sure .. rain on the way in though ..
LK .. a situation like the one with your sons and your ex, their Dad comes along to many .. BUT .. few take the opportunity to go and make peace .. your sons, and you, are to be commended ..
Susan .. all the best with the rest of the move ..
As Sue would say .. 'not much happening here'
~M~
Linda Kay, I do sincerely hope your ex realizes what fine young men your sons have become. Regrets that they have to resolve their relationship in this manner. Sending best thoughts and prayers for you all.
Been trying to keep up and not managing very well. Seems for every step forward, MIL slips back two. Her rehab doctor has said there is little to nothing more they can do for her. She can not sit up nor stand on her own and has no use of her left arm or leg. She still can not swallow adequately and has a peg tube in her side for feeding. We will be moving her to a skilled nursing care facility this week.
Good thoughts to you all. Take care.
Sorry to hear that Jean. Sending prayers.
Jean, such sad news, will add her and your family to my prayer list,
Morning all,
Grrr was awaken at 5am by someone who said they were from my bank, East Indian saying that $600 had been transferred to India not more than 10 minutes prior to the call
Did I make that transfer...NO
even after I said NO he kept asking me questions
I was alert enough at that time of morning to say I would immediately call my my bank, his reply was this is your bank
Not good enough!!!
Called my bank and as suspected, he was trying to get info from me
What gave him away was that he was verifying if I had made the transaction, well if my bank was concerned would they not have called prior to sending it??
Figures don't jive though with balance
I did book hotels and tours yesterday, tours were to be paid for but not hotels, perhaps they charged vs using cc for holding the room
Takes 2 or 3 days for actual transactions to show up..we will see then
Oh Betty, I sure hope no one got your bank info and went on a spree. Keep a close eye on it.
Made a big mistake this morning, I got up!! Already 80 downstairs.
DH put the AC in window last night, and hope he will in bedroom before
he leaves on his vacation tomorrow.
Lots to say but nothing I can put here. Just know my health is working on it,
one day at a time.
Did some gardening here and there, my iris are blooming up and looking nice.
Hugs to all, stay safe!!!
Debbie
Good morning friends,
I just made an appointment to see a doctor at Kaiser at 10am today. Had a very bad day yesterday. Was going to write about it last night as it was almost funny by then but my puter mouse died and I don't have spare batteries. I have a much harder time without the mouse so I gave up and went to bed. Slept pretty well and called Kaiser first thing this morning. Got a very nice woman and the appointment for today.
Betty, glad you realized something was off on the call. I've learned to spot fake emails and I just send them on to Paypal.
I do miss home - Tony, the furries and the plants. But the retirement issues are important and my mental fog keeps clearing up. Found a website called out of the FOG and was stunned at how many of the behaviors of the retirement people are described there. I think that's a lot of why I've been having this medical flare-ups. I keep telling my body - do what you have to but we're sticking with this. There's no turning back once awareness rears it's ugly head. I've often said that consciousness is the booby prize of sobriety - for some people.
No regrets but some days are harder than others. Amma will be in San Ramon next Wednesday. There is another County Supervisors' Board meeting the day before and I'll be there. My appearances there are kind of funny as it tends to be a forum for local weirdos. Then there I am - looking like somebodies grandmother, upset but coherent.
Last night I had a lot of memories of Watergate. Remembering the summer of the Watergate hearings when I was stripping the wallpaper off the walls of a bedroom in an old farm house and watching the hearings develop. That chunk of history has been an inspiration to me on other occasions. Last night was remembering a smug employee of the IRS who assured the hearing members that the IRS was never used for political purposes. He was, not surprisingly, a white male and was smug and condescending as only they can be. Until a few months later when the facts came out and he was on the stand sweating and admitting to all the lies he had told previously. There is one member of the Retirement Board who reminds me a lot of that man - the same superior, you'll-never-catch-me attitude. It's a fairly typical abusive parent attitude attitude and I tend to find it scary and intimidating. Then I remember Watergate and how persistence paid off.
Not much energy for yard work right now. But things are much improved and I know I'll feel better after I see the doctor today.
Michael will be back tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, I have a warm quilt, the TV, books and my puter.
Life is good.
hugs, katie
Quickly sharing the piece done on Lorna in the local paper ..
