Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends old/new

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Sun trying to show itself but it's grey in the far off so likely more rain

So green out there, lush lawns, guess it's time to use the mower..love looking at the trees, amazing how their leaves are almost fully open in just a week

Smiling here Susan, you posted you are normally energized and meds don't make you more so, much like I..can you imagine if it did give us more energy..lol

Katie wishing you all the best today,..may someone hear what has happened and vows to take action

"m" did you turn on the heat last night? On the cool side here as well..bet Lorna is up and at it, ready to start work..tell her not to overdo

Judy, what a perfect Mother's Day..Jake and the girls sure know how to spoil you!
How is Steve this morning

Sue, hot rocks method sounds relaxing, why is this method not being used

Best I get ready, must bring my car for repair and pick up rental

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
We are getting so much rain here, I guess that is good as it is keeping the temps down, but wow, the skeeters are making us run when we go out.

Judy, sounds like you had an awesome Mothers day!

Katie, I pray you get more good news in your favor!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lol Betty, when I was bowling (before the first fall), one of the ladies said I looked like those cartoon characters that the feet looked like they were spinning in a circle, I moved so quickly
That first fall 5 years ago sure slowed me down, unnaturally. Much like my mom - we were "movers". People would say, of my mom, "there goes May" and someone else would say "where?", cuz my mom (May) was already gone - about a block further away - by the time the next person looked LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

got cha..lol

same here, what I do in one week some take months..I call it focused..smiling

got my rental car..paid $5 extra a day so that if something happens to a tire or chip on any of the windows the deductable will be covered..so, with all the smash m up pieces flying from 3 vehicles I didn't even think of looking on main window for chips, called the repair company and asked them to look

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, in Texas you don't have to pay extra for damages. Our insurance takes care of all that if something happens.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Had to share my first morning glory that opened today, as well as my pride of Barbados bloom. It usually doesn't bloom till June or July.

Lordy, never seen a 'pride of Barbados bloom..breath taking for sure!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

ok - point taken - these narcotics are giving me some energy that I haven't seen for years. It's about ruddy time!!! I went to new place, got tenants hooked up for tv & Internet, unpacked some boxes (no real energy then), came home to pack more & boom - YES, energy that I need for this move. I took down living room curtains, kitchen, door, den and shower - all went through the wash, and now in dryer. Packed more boxes, and when I finish my soup, I'll head over with these. I forgot what energy was.....
This is the "old me". Oh, and I started taking iron at bedtime again - I'm prone to anemia, so between the two, I feel like myself again.
No, I won't let myself get addicted - taking meds as per Dr's instructions, and they'll be gone shortly after I move, with no refill LOL

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Glad to hear you are feeling the 'energy' benefit Susan .. one thing .. if you take the meds close to bedtime , well , don't expect much sleep.
When I took oxy pre op for my hip, I would take it 2 hours before going horizontal ..

That 'Pride of Babados' is fabulous, almost looks like a type of Fuschia .. so delicate ..
~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hadn't thought of that "M"' does resemble a Fushia..do you have luck with them?

Just think if susan isnt horizontal then she will get twice the work done.

Still numb fingers, it's cold but not that cold lol

Cool outside so am cooking a large pot of soup, would like to get comfy in bed but need to slice up the chicken into pieces first then while cooling I will get comfy

Betty i don't know why the hot rocks are not used widely ? maybe due to law suits ? special training is expensive for most people to use that ? ... maybe ?
Thai massage is a specialty massage. Not many people know what it is :)
Honestly i love a good hot towel on my back. That feels good also. or a hot towel on your feet. That is good also.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hahaha - hadn't planned on taking it before bedtime. I figured I'd get more benefit if I took it before I planned on doing packing/moving. I do NOT plan on packing OR moving while I'm sleeping lol

I "undertook" 4 hours ago, and then "over did". I'm feeling the pain now. My neighbour asked if I wanted a packing box, and I can't even walk over to his place to get the box.
I'm home, I'm sitting, and just took my last meds for the day. Bob's wanting us to go over to the new place tonight - we shall see. I find the meds start working about 2 hours after I take them.

Hi Friends, The meeting went fairly well. I had a handout I'd had copied and gave copies for all the Board members before the meeting so when it was my turn to speak I referred to that. Several of them nodded their heads so I said, OK then I won't go into what I've already written. I talked more about the huge expense of the retirement people's mistakes (about $50.000) and how they add insult and humiliation by trying to insist that the mistakes are all my fault. I cried a bit but kept control enough to tell them what I wanted to. Used less than my three minutes. Was followed by a mentally ill Berkeley street person which was both frustrating and sad to watch. It did underscore that I am not a nut job. Talked after to the same woman I talked to last week. She works for one of the supervisors. She understands that while I am concerned about what's happened to me I'm also concerned about other retirees AND I am offering the Board of Supervisors, who supervise the Retirement Board and their employees, the opportunity to handle some of these problems with minimal publicity.

Now I'm exhausted. I bought some plants and some seeds to continue work on Michael's yard after I get some rest. I'm still kind of post-speech twitchy but I think it went quite well. I didn't want to have a big dramatic scene but I let them know how hard this has been. As I said, "These are not victimless mistakes."

There is the vailed threat of publicity, maybe in the media or perhaps in social websites as people who hear about what has happened to me tend to be outraged. And they wonder how many other people are being or have been mistreated.

I'm feeling very tired but OK.

While in Berkeley getting copies made I met a homeless man and his dog. The dog and I really connected. The man seemed very nice -alert and clear eyed - and I gave him some money so he and the dog could eat. The dog seemed to want to come with me - one of those nice connections. But I told him he had to stay with his Dad. It did help me get ready to face the Board, I think.

Enough babbling. Dinner soon and then I hope I can sleep. Maybe do some plants tomorrow.

hugs, katie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

good for you, Katie, on having the handouts for them to refer to, and to keep. Not going overtime usually impresses people, and the fact that you're not a nut job helps too lol
You're in my prayers, m'dear.
How sweet that you met the man & his dog and helped them - bless you :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When is your next appointment Katie?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad to read the optimism in your post Katie. Sometimes a gentle nudge is better than a squeaky wheel. You are in my prayers daily.
I've been busy these last couple of days finishing up the wall quilt - yes the Dresden plate. I couldn't figure out how I wanted to quilt it. But I got over that hurdle and now to get it done.
Roller coaster weather here lately. Hot, chilly, hot , chilly Today is a chilly day.....
Waving to all~~~~~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone,

Sounds so relaxing Sue, I should pamper myself, note to self, book a spa day..

Katie, I'm sure you are gaining support..next step? how kind you are providing eats for the man and his dog..

Heavy rains during the night but sun is shinning strong..hoping those dark clouds afar will stay there.
Heading to the city this afternoon, having dinner with the family, all except Noah as he has just returned to work, excited about seeing Caleb in 'the great Gatsby'. Am sure he will be the best Gatsby ever..jus a grandma saying 😜

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Barb, must show and tell, anxious to hear how you will quilt it..doing it yourself?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I was going to send it out to be quilted but thought I can do it myself. Then got stymied with what to do. It will be finished today and then I can bind it. I can only sit at the sewing machine for a couple of hours at a time and the breaks in between sometimes take over what I'm doing especially if I get my nose in a good book!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sure hope you share photo's and you will feel better knowing you did the quilting..were the blocks from the Dresden swap?

Sun is gone,😂

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, these are from the Dresden swap.
I saw this a moment ago and just have to share.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Loved the link Barb..tks for sharing

5" of rain, yikes I'd be looking at another basement flood for sure!

not raining but sunshine no longer out.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am glad we don't have a basement.

Victoria Harbour, ON

hopefully the seniors home I move into won't have one either lol

I'm well equipped, 2 sump pumps working independently, a battery back up pump (good for 3 - 4 hrs) then just bought a large gas operated generator..doesn't mean I won't get a flood though

still too early to leave for the city, having my homemade soup, yummy/yummy

it's some cold out there

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty?!?!?! Did I miss something - you're moving to a senior's home????

Victoria Harbour, ON

just saying when I do lol

off to meet up with Greg and Mel then off to the city

mulege, Mexico

That's an incredible video, Barb. Thank you for sharing.

Good news here!! I have a date to have lunch with one of the assistant's of one of the County Supervisors before the Retirement board meeting next week. The Board of Supervisors oversees the Retirement Board. I have some ideas which could make her and her boss look good while dealing with some of the bad behaviors of the retirement board and employees.

I so excited I'm just bouncing around but I will do some heavy thinking during the next week and write out some possible plans of action.

Very happy here. Am just going to giggle for awhile.

hugs, katie

yaaaaaaaaaay katie!!! Good news, indeed!! Keep us informed!! (waiting with bated breath!!)

Wow, Marilynne! You hang your laundry out? Been a long time since I've seen anyone do that! I have one of those retractable clothes lines, which I may take with me to the new place. Considering it.......

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I used to hang out sheets always until we moved where there was a Mulberry tree.

"M" hope he goes soon for the carpal tunnel surgery, It's out-patient and quick to heal. Makes a huge difference.

Katie yay! for you. Hope you get them to listen to you and act on what you say.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wow Katie .. good for you !!! Best of luck with the luncheon ..

I have hung out my clothes for the 28 years here, and the 15 in the city .. BIG push around here for hanging clothes outside to 'conserve energy' .. otherwise you are only supposed to do laundry (and use the dryer) on the weekends, or after 7pm til 7am .. I have no time for laundry at that time ..

Karen .. here's hoping that the surgery is not too far off (yeah right) .. hubby is in a lot of pain, finds it hard to use his hands ..

Off to watch Corrie ..

Now I can't remember which thread I was going to post this on.
This is the gown I made my daughter for her wedding and then when I was making porcelain dolls, one looked like her so I duplicated her gown on it. She's had it in a display case for 25 years so it has yellowed quite a bit.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Wow Karen that gown is gorgeous!! And I love the doll too. What a special gift for your daughter....
Trying to turn my computer so I can see Caleb!!! He looks great.....

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wonderful pic of your daughter Karen, and the doll in the replica dress is just perfect!

Glad you had a good time Betty .. kinda difficult to see the pic, but, that's OK
When DGD Brooklyn did her cheerleading competition last year, I about fainted, had NO clue she was that athletic, some scary routines!!
And, Austin is getting better with his bagpipes, sounds less offensive than someone standing on a cats tail LoL

Another busy day .. out for brekkie with DH, then some shopping, by the time we get home I am sure I will be due for a nap !!!

Rain is on its way to us once again

TOODLES

~M~

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I love bagpipes. I read that it was said they sound about the same when you are learning as when you have mastered them.

Calebs group looks great, I'd have been busting my buttons if I was watching mine.
