Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends new/old

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Sheeesh .. reading the paper, and, I see Percy Sledge has died .. 74 ... LOVED his song 'when a man loves a woman', in fact, many, MANY years ago when Karioke was just being born .. a group of us who were celebrating a wedding engagement, at a local watering hole .. did a fair job of slaughtering the song ... LoL but, we did it with FEELING !

Guess everyone is sleepin in today ..

~M~

i thought i had a do nothing kind of day but that turned into. Cleaning out winter clothes and hanging spring clothes. sorting threw old clothes ect...
then realized i have one more paper to take to the accountant.
then also realized i need new girly garments .... hehehehe
M that is a beautiful song. I remember that song. Have not heard it in quiet a while actually.

I heard that on the news yesterday. Seems a lot of the old singers are leaving this world too soon!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Is this 'sewing ladies day' for Betty?
Was wondering where she had gotten to ..

Going to hang out clothes ..

Barb .. great news on the wheelchair Barb, not so much having to move though .. but, I totally understand .. the ins and out of what is and is not covered is incredible, AND< ridiculous !!

I am thrilled that I will finally get to see my son - he's coming up with a friend, to Calgary, for June 1st.
The friend has a job Starting June 1st actually, in Lethbridge, Alberta (2 hours drive from here), so Daniel is coming with him. First of all they're going to Mexico cuz this friend (Darren) has a time-share until Aug 5 so my Daniel will take it over, then they're coming here for Darren to take over his new job, then my Daniel will go back to Mexico to stay until Aug 5th. He's invited me to join him, but $450 round trip may be more than I can afford when we're moving into a new place.
Bob's going to talk to his boss and see if he can firm up the details. We need to know the exact rent, and find out what the rent is for the basement suite so we can find people to rent it as well.
Ker (Bob's boss) wants nothing to do with the house but to gather the rent lol
We'll find someone compatible for us, that's all he cares about.

~~~~~~ Waving here! Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I started celebrating last Wednesday and had my final celebration on Monday. Wheeee what fun, neat gifts, too.
Sorry I've been missing. A lot of you have seen my garden. So I know you'll understand why I haven't been around. I've been kind of histerical since I was supposed to have one of my garden clubs here on May 5th. But......I managed to trade with the gal who had June (her yard is small, she has a pool) so I'm not on as much of a rush now. Whew!!
I didn't read all that I missed. I hope I didn't miss any births or deaths!!
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)
~~~~~~~~~ Waving back, Joyce!! Glad you enjoyed your birthday :-)
Glad you're not rushing as you thought about an early Garden Club :-)

I'm sitting here thinking about some plants that I want to move to our new place - Indigo bush, peony (first ever, and in memory of Carol) and 2 bleeding hearts.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Susan, for sure the peony in memory of Carol :-)
Do you have a time line for the move? I sure do know you will be busy!

Nice to see you posting Joyce, we're just starting to get into the thick of things re the gardens ..

Hmmmmmmmmmm .. no Betty .. kind of odd that ?!

Off to make salads

Here's a picture of Carol, Lougheed House, with my mom - Carol was a great tour guide :-)
I thought I had a picture of Carol with her prize winning peonies, but I can't find it on my computer......

Good news Susan. Fingers crossed that all goes well.

M, makes me worry also. I hope nothing happened to Aunt Muriel or Betty's Mom. Perhaps all of Betty's travels and her bustling about have caught up with her....mayhaps she is just not feeling up to snuff and needs a couple days to rest and recuperate.

Wow Barb. I know you must be so excited to watch Brandon ride . A chair will make it so much more enjoyable for you. Is that the IHSA competition the first weekend in May in Springfield, MA?
A friend who lives in Cambridge now, was in Vet school with my SIL and he does large animal medicine. He mentioned something about the IHSA competition coming up.

Yes, I'll be busy - trying to figure out what to toss, give away, or sell lol Easier to move if we get rid of stuff LOL

As a veteran of 40 moves, I know how to do this........... efficiently lol

Cookie ! i don't understand :( dont you wuv us no more ......( giggling)
Susan i can feel your excitement.
busy day today.
got new britches.
accountant and paper work
then went to Yellow Springs. Its an artsy fartsy Liberal colledge type town. Nice boutiques, cute little pubs, great food. Love it there. Got a few things for the massage room.
Savannah helped me download Pandora music. So i can play relaxing music with the massages.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I thought this was sweet...

Nice on the artsy-fartsy neighbourhood - I like them too :-)
and Nice that Savannah got you some nice music for the massages - I can feel the relaxation now......

It looks like the "house for rent" is a no-go - the cost is more than what we pay now. Yes, this would be utilities too (no, not included, but each tenant would pay half) however if you consider what we pay for rent now ($525 plus utilities of $375) the cost would be $900. Consider the new place at $1200 after utilities included.
Bob says maybe I should go on disability, and talk to my Dr about this, because of my knees.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes Jean - that is the one. I'm so excited to go see Brandon ride. We are thrilled with him being qualified in his freshman year at college. He also just won one of three scholarship awards for freshman for next year. Along with his riding abilities, he is a straight A student!!!
He is on the Western Team for the University of Findlay (Ohio). Will be riding Intermediate Western Horsemanship.
My handsome cowboy!!!!

Oh Barb .. what a super pic of your GS .. VERY handsome, and, I wish him well, and you too..

Looks to be a beautiful spring day here again .. got up to 65F yesterday, scored more tan ..
Lorna has a teeth cleaning at noon, I'll likely tag along and do a quick shop while she's in there.

OOoooooooooooo .. my right upper arm where I got the shingles shot, well, SO ITCHY !!!!
Had to wear a long sleeved short to bed so I wouldn't scratch, I could have taken a Benadryl, but, they toast me for a good long time ..

Jean love the video :-)

AGGggg Susan .. that is a HIGH rent .. I think here it might be 800/m INCLUDING utilities, but, we're a smaller city ..
The disability suggestion is a good one ..

Best have some breakfast ...

Hi Betty wherever you are, I sure hope there are no problems with Noah or your Mom or Auntie !

Extra special hugs for you, and good thoughts too ..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Wow...that is a lot Susan. Disability may be a good route for you.

Oh Barb, that is brilliant. Congratulations to Brandon...smart, athletic and handsome...I know you and Norm and his folks are just bursting with pride for him.

I did think it was cute, M, but worry about tiny toes and fingers....grin Hope the itchiness quits soon.

Thanks for touching base Betty...ya know we worry. Hope you get pretty weather to play in the garden. This is such a happy colored azalea. HUGS

Happy Happy Joy Joy - it is a Beautiful colour, Jean - thanks for showing us :-)

Rent in Calgary IS very high, and there's no rent control measures in place - landlords can charge whatever they want.

hello everyone
M Oh dear on the itchies . Allerigic reaction ? hope it settles down soon.
Betty thank you for checking in. Glad things are ok. God Speed .
Jean i m not a yellow fan but those are beautiful ! i do love azalea's !
Susan sorry to hear about the house as a no go. :( i agree i would try disability. you can still have a job with it ... well here in the states you can. Don't know about Canada . I think it would take some stress of you .
busy day here
gym
then i did a massage on my fitness trainer Tiffany. Lucy apparently made such a ruckus upstairs ! that i had to bring her down to us. Thank Goodness Tiffany is a dog lover.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I'll check with my Dr re: disability - may have to have an MRI first though
yes, some people on disability still have jobs here - I know of a Church secretary that does, but she has to make under a certain amount of $$ to make it viable. In fact, she turned down a raise because her disability would be cut if she took it.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Susan .. you can only make $5000. then disability is cut off, how STUPID I know .. Lorna got a call from disability saying .. 'AHEM .. you are making too much money'!!!
MINIMUM wage, and, (excuse my French) BUSTING HER AS* at a very physical job, and, with ONE leg ..
Would have been better for her to collect CPP disability, stay home, and work 'on the side' at something ..
Ludicrous!

Raining here .. supper to conjure up ...

yeah, they "cut you off at the knees" eh? (although, in my case...... lol
Makes you wonder just what they want us to do? Sit at home on our Azz all day, I guess....
and NO, I don't forgive you your French, cuz I'm speaking French too lol

i have a huge mosquito bite on my ankle grrrr. my shoe keeps rubbing on it. so irritating and itchy LOL but not as much as your arm M. I m sure mine is minor compared to your arm. How is it doing today ? has it eased up on the itching ?

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

taynors,

A suggestion if I may, if you have ammonia, put a bit on a tissue and dab it on the bite. You might be able to put a bandaid over it to deaden it a bit too. My Dh sprays the bites with windex but I find it too sticky due to the surfactants

Somethig hot like a squeezed tea bag placed on the bite will also help dissipate the concentration of toxins that make it itch.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Here in Canada, where the Mosquitoes can almost be ridden .. it isn't uncommon to dab the bite with a green onion (cut of course) it does take the itch away.
My 'area' is now about 3"x3", and, I really am not too anxious to put something on it.
It's tough though ,and OOOOOOOooooooo the itch .... but, I know it'll calm down .. dontcha know I keep going around corners and hittng the area on the corner of the wall !!!

Making a list and checking it twice before we do the FINAL shop before company ..

Sleep well everyone
Attaching a pic of my SHOT ...

YIKES, Marilynne!!

The mosquito is the provincial BIRD in Manitoba lol

Oh my M that doesn't look good. Hope it heals quickly.
Terri thank you . I may try that . Benadryl cream isn't helping. I don't take the pill form either unless its a wicked one. I was stung by a wasp at work and i ended up taking a pill. Went up my whole arm it did the sting. Slept for 2 days LOL

mulege, Mexico

Still having mood swings. Waiting for written confirmation from the IRS that my problems with them are really over.

My friend Rafael came by and sold me a kilo of lobster tails for about $20. He may have shrimp tomorrow.. I had steak tonight. Maybe lots of protien will help stabilise my moods.
Anyway, it tastes good.

There's a new word game on Lumosity and I'm having fun with it. If anyone wants to try Lumosity, shoot me a dmail - I have space on my family plan that isn't being used so it's free. First come, first served.

gave Dana and Maria after-easter baskets and just got a lovely thank you note from Maria. She has also been having health problems so isn't getting out much. I got all of us matching t-shirt Disney dresses that say "I'll rise but I won't shine" courtesty of a Walmart sale.

We are getting flies and mosquitoes. Found a dead scorpion under my puter yesterday.

Haven't been cooking much for the dogs and they are getting rebellious. We should shop tomorrow if I can get up and going before Tony leaves at 11.

hugs, katie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

That sounds like a great deal on Lobster tails, katie!! yummmmmm
I suppose you have a large freezer to keep them?
ewwwwww a scorpion......... glad it was dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

What kind of word game, Katie? I have to be careful about games...I really like word games and logic puzzles and I can completely lose track of time with them. grin

Earth Day weekend and we are in line for at least another 2-4 inches of rain, possibly more. I guess flash floods are one way of sweeping the streets...ahem...those April showers bring the skeeters that bite in May...and June, and July....

Have a lovely weekend

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Luminosity is a great word game - I've used the free trial. It's on tv commercials as well.
Helps sharpen your brain - mine's almost mush - could use some sharpening lol
(Illuminate your mind!!!)

mulege, Mexico

It's called "Verbal Fluency." I played it a lot last night and really had fun as my brain was in overdrive - something that doesn't happen too often.

Big news today: our cherimoya tree has blossoms!!! I had many seeds; this is the only tree that made it. Tony found the flower buds this morning. Happy day. I wasn't sure how long it would take it to flower so I'm happy.

Fixing up containers for the blueberry plants I smuggled in.

Woke up at 5am and got some work done. Cleaning out the van as I have to return to Ca. in a few weeks to deal with the Retirement .

Feeling much better today than I have in a long time and am holding back so's not to overdo. So easy to get crazy .

Thinking of Lorna as I consider my presentation for the Retirement Board. It's great to be able to confront them directly. And the better I feel the funnier my presentation will be and they are all such stuffed shirts that ridicule is the best thing to do. Just not so much that they don't hear the serious message.

Tony just brought me two carrots from the garden.

hugs, katie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Nice - cherimoya - will have to Google it lol
Carrots - love 'em!! Maybe I'll grow some this year, in my Community Garden!!

Sharpening up your brain is a good thing to do

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Is that the Word Bubble Rising? My only problem with timed games is that i am dyslexic ...so I spend a bit remembering to keep my letters in the right order...duh.

Is your Cherimoya the Annona cherimola? I have had the Annona squarmosa before. My son in law's mother has them in her garden in Townsville, Au. They call them sweetsop or sugar apple.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annona_squamosa

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

omg omg omg - we are moving!!
have to throw stuff out, pack stuff and make this place viewable for a potential renter!!
Not going to be online much...........
new place vacant in 2 weeks...... we have a flexible move-in/out, but the potential renter wants to move asap........

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Great news Susan. To the house Bob's boss was talking about?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

OHMIGOSH Susan, how exciting, and, nerve wracking all at the same time.
Best of luck, would help if I could .. 2 trucks here ..

SCRABBLE is my obsession .. absolutely love it, and, on FBook, the game goes turn by turn, and, at times a day may go by when no one does their turn, I think after 2 days, you can nudge them, and, on day 4 you can force a forfeit.

Was up and out and into the big city by 8am .. got our grocery shopping for the company done, they arrive Sunday .. home by 12,, now I've tackled the bathrooms and Lorna is out doing yard work, raking etc .. we have so MANY pine needles being tacked into the house, mostly on the dogs, difficult to get them out of the entry way carpet !
Tomorrow is strictly getting the house in order, gawd, you'd think the Queen and Prince Philip were arriving !!!
Speaking of which, I do think 'Kate and Prince William' are about to become parents to a second child soon .. hope this one is as sweet as Prince George :-)

I best get off my hiney and do something ..

Jean .. I was told not to take Ginseng if your blood pressure is high ..

Hi Betty .. hope you're behaving, NOT LoL

Katie, sounds live you're gaining some ground .. and, your garden is flourishing :-)

Out to my thundering herd, and, a rake

~M~

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yes, this is the house that Bob's boss bought - he wants to give us full autonomy over who shares the house with us, so if we don't get along with the people downstairs we don't have to say anything to Ker - they're out, and we can put in whosoever we please.

Right now, I'm clearing off my office desk so I can take a picture of it - we have another of the same desk to sell....... gotta look good, right? lol
The other one is disassembled, so it's easy to take away. Would need a strong person (preferably 2) to put it together. Not sure how much to ask for it - it's 10ft wide, by 32" deep, and 72" tall with 6 door credenza...... and solid wood - each piece is about 1" thick.......
It's a 2 computer station, so plenty roomy
