Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends new/old

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

They can knock you for a loop, Barb. Take it easy on you.

I'm doing pretty good. Strange the incisions are still really sore but I'm ever much stronger. I'm doing a lot of walking and even stairs. I feel steady in the house but carry my cane when we go out, just better to have a third leg. We've hit several fun stores including a large fabric outlet. Prices were OK but selection was wonderful. If I'd had a pattern in mind, I would have found perfect fabric I'm sure.

Leaving tomorrow to make the rounds of family we haven't seen in several years. We should be back by the end of the week then heading to TN to be with grands & greats for a week.

karen have a wonderful trip and enjoy the family. Glad your feeling better.
dragged out my spring clothes...
wind kicked up pretty good. more hair spray i guess today.
Judy so glad you had a wonderful time on your cruise ... lol to funny on my town. Glad you remembered.
slow morning here.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you had a good time on the cruise Judy!

Barb, glad to hear you are on the mend, either sinus or allergies can be bad.

Karen, glad to hear your doing better too! Don't over do it on your trip.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Bob's gone to work today, first day.
When he arrived, they told him that if he wasn't up to it, he should go home. He told them he's fine, on light duty, staying in the building doing laundry. They're a really great company :-)
He has Bowling League tonight, too.

We went to church yesterday, in the choir. Bob had to leave in the middle for a bit - his painkiller knocked him for a bit of a loop, but he did return after laying down for about 15 min, feeling fine.

I got my $20 Michael's gift card, and they have a 50% coupon on their site lol yaaaaaaaaay!!
Yesterday after Church Bob & I went to a garage sale someone from our church had - fabric lol
It's all Christmas-type, and I'll be making stuff for the Christmas Craft Sale they have every year. Looking forward to it.

I finished the 2nd blanket, labels made for both, and handsewn on.

and the goodies I got from my friend's sale

I'll make some crafts for the sale. One of these fabrics is meant for applique - on what, I don't know, but it's sure Christmas-y lol

Oh my Susan the blankets are just stellar .. I especially like the Yellow one ..

Barb .. good to hear your feeling better ..

Did y'all hear me go 'OUCHE DOODLE' around 3pm? Got my Shingles shot .. bit of a BIG pinch, but, at least I'm good to go as far as shingles is concerned .. after what DH went through and is still going through, I'll take the shot!

Have been emailing back and forth with the editor of the local paper .. about all the crap Lorna is having to deal with .. re her prosthetic limb .. I feel like we are simply treading water and getting NOWHERE to get her help for improvements , so, I called the paper .. they are everso curious and are looking into 'things', want to send a photographer out to take pics of Lorna. Ought to be interesting .. just hope I didn't rock the boat too hard !!!

Off to make a stir fry ...

Good morning everyone,

I just had a good talk with a paralegal in San Francisco. I am pleased that I am able to make sense to people in talking the Retirement situation. Also, I think she was happy that I gave her information and told her my currant plan without crying or begging for help. I think one way or another I will hold them accountable. Either through legal action of public humiliation - or both!!

Pain killers are working today and I'm a bit manic. And enjoying it thoroughly.

Yogurt is cooking and I should be gardening. But I'm playing poker and solitare. Easier on my arthritic body.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

That"/ good new Katie, getting people to understand your plight is half the battle
Hmmm cooking yogurt, would you believe I didn't know one cooked yogurt..hope you win some $$$

"m" after watching Gordthe past months, seeing his pain you should be jumping for joy getting the shot, ou he's are ok...feel badly for Lorna, can't believe they treat amputees so terrible.

Susan, what a stash you got, bet you are trying to figure out what to do with wool and fabric
Blankets are lovely..bob home?? He will be in bed early for sure

Karen it's so nice to see finally you are enjoying yourself..was it Bette/Beth/Bessie that is still teaching quilting? She will be impressed that you take after her,,did you visit with her yet?

Barb, I so sympathize with you re sinus problems, glad you posted, we were starting to worry

Sue did the hairspray work or did you decide to stay inside

Lordy, torrential rain, perhaps the good Lord knew as bad as I was feeling would go out and pick up leaves from yesterday, nope, inside I am, not even tempted to go downstairs to sew, I is behaving😜

Did I say earlier aunt Muriel survived the heart operation..thanking the Lord for that! Mom sure was relieved

Well, stew is ready

Will eat then neocitron and bed..thinking I should close my bedroom door so kitties can't take over

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yes, it'll be early to bed for Bob tonight, I'm sure. After a full day of work, then bowling - he'll be exhausted, I'm sure. He only has 2 more weeks of bowling - the Roll-offs. Tonight is week 1 of Roll-offs, and he's top in Men's and singles - I'm so proud of him :-)

Thank you, re: blankets - the blue one is softer, for some reason, but I had fun doing both.
Yes, the green/yellow one is pretty - took me 3 weeks, it should be lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sometimes Susan different dyes in the wool do that
You should be proud of Bob, I belonged to a bowling league with roger, his parents and brothers, gee I was terrible

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

They're different brands of wool, but both are "baby" wool. I thought they'd both be soft.
I guess because the green variegated was "knit tighter" in the pattern, it was therefore not as soft.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wow Betty , hadn't realized your Aunt Muriel was having heart surgery, glad she's ok ..

Busy day tomorrow, Lorna has to go in front of a board re getting a new wheelchair/walker/raised toilet seat and a bath chair .. has had them for 5 years and, NOTHING lasts forever .. she feels demeaned, but, as per gov't guidelines, she is due all new equipment after THREE years, and she has never complained ..anyway, DH will have to load the wheelchair into her truck, and the walker into her back seat .. and we'll have to handle it from there ..
Supposedly a wicked bad storm coming this way tonight..

Unloading the dishwasher, and, hittin the pit ..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Katie, I am sending prayers for you retirement and IRS problems get settled quickly and in your favor.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - glad to know your Aunt Muriel is doing well - I guess I missed that she was having surgery, too ........

M sure hope it goes well for you guys tomorrow with Lorna. :)
Betty so glad to hear the Aunt Murial is healing.
Susan pretty colors on the blankets. :) boy Bob had a busy day .

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks everyone, she is my favorite aunt (shhh you aren't suppose to have a favorite)
Think maybe because she has several strokes but she is a trooper and rallies. She NEVER stops chattering and people avoid her or make fun of her.

Here she was, quite ill and playing Florence Nightengale to 1/2 the senior complex.
Mom is at her house looking after her dog, she was telling me that a lady needed to go to Barrie for dr's appt so she told her to use her vehicle while she is hospitalized

She is 80 lbs soaking wet and a ball od fire at 85

"m" I can see why Lorna would feel that way..should be automatic,3 years, get a reminder that new equipment is available for pick up

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Starting on our visiting route tomorrow. Will see cousin in VA first. Our grandmothers were sisters. She's always fun to see. Hoping hubby has some shine we can take home. Then on to WV to see mothers cousins Bessie & Bernice (rhymes with furnace). Bessie is the crafty one. We need to make stop at family cemetery to see if anything needs attending to. Last time I was there several years ago, I had a stone reset.

Betty so glad your aunt is doing well.

"M" I hate it that Lorna is treated so shabby by the government. My friend who was in much the same shape was treated like that too so Canada isn't alone in how they mistreat our citizens.
Glad you got your Shingles shot. I keep asking but my Drs. won't allow me to have it. I'm just terrified of getting shingles.

Susan so glad Bob is feeling better.

Katie hoping your financial situations get sorted out in your favor soon.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We had the same problem with Dad with his shoes with built in braces, and his electric wheel chair. I would have rather gone to the dentist for extractions, than fight with the government for all we needed.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty shhhh no one Really has a favourite "aunt, cousin, sibling, parent........." or anything, Do They?!?!?! hahahaha Sure We Do!! It's the one who really "gets" us..........and takes the time to BE with us, emotionally, etc

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

BZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .. up and at'em .. going to fight the good fight in a most humbling way ..
Katie, I think we are cut from the same cloth in that way .. I do hope your IRS stuff goes OK and the Retirement fund too ..

SAfe traels and ENJOY Karen :-)

Morning all,

Sunshine day,,

Didn't meet up with Paul yesterday, felt too yucky so perhaps today

Good luck "M" may you next post be one of singing the board'so praises

Karen, you sure you are feeling up to par for all the visiting?
Hi to aunt Bessie (my given name). Ask and ask questions, tips etc so you can pass them on

Victoria Harbour, ON

decided to take a run into Home Depot, following a white 4x4 and all of a sudden metal was flying all over, guess he didn't see the car ahead of him, trucks front completely smashed, car in front like an accordian

on coming car stopped, he looked like he was a firefighter, ran to the car, opened the door, gabbed to individual whose car made a slow descent in gully and hit a tree (his movement seemed in slow motion..once I knew everyone seemed to be ok I continued my journey, had to take back roads home as it's closed off

you just never know

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

OH MY! I am glad they were OK! I hate seeing accidents like that!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Glad you are home and safe Betty. That could have been so much worse.

More thunder storms here...started about 4:30 this morning and still going on.

https://www.google.com/search?q=weather+for+galvez+La&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

The critters are NOT happy.... me either.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Looks like the storms we had yesterday. We are clear here today!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We have 90% rain chance through Sunday...and so many other places that could really use the rain.
The lights are blinking...gonna shut down for a while.

Y'all take care.

mulege, Mexico

To do a rant about how horrible a person is and to demand that they remove a post is offensive. When the rant is "not for me" but for a person the ranter has decided will be offended by the post is double offensive and severely codepedent. To delete the offensivemessage demanding removal of the post wait awhile, and then post a "we're really all good friends here" message doesn't work. It is sick and disgusting. It is what drunks do. Get drunk, make a scene, wait until things calm down and them expect everyone to pretend it never happened and we're all one happy family.

Homey doesn't play that.

W H A T

Big sigh

Is it I or do I not see any of this

I try to ONLY see the good

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LK, just needed to see her have something good happen for a change...paying it forward. I would rather keep a low profile so she isn't embarrassed, so am replying here rather than there. grin

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - people say that I'm "too sweet" sometimes - only see the good in people....... big sigh
Consider everyone "God's kids"

I'm learning a new knitting technique - with Red Heart Boutique Sashay - it's one of those "curly scarves". Sure is different!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I have made several of them Susan and they are really easy to do. I found them fun to do....

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well .. the meeting and Lorna .. my gosh if 'they' (the gov't) could make things any more difficult , or, STUPID .. well lets just say .. I am gobsmacked by all the flipping paperwork and WAIT times, poor Lorna, good thing she has and does maintain a positive attitude ..

Did something happen on here that I missed ?

WINDY as all get out here .. dust and debris flying around ..

LOVE the 'curly scarves' Susan :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for helping her out Jean!

"M". so sorry to hear you all got the run around! Sure hope it is not too long of a wait?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Poor Lorna. Sending her good thoughts. Seems like bureaucracy and red tape are everywhere..
Hope things get straight soon.

Marilynne, LK and I are talking about a friend here on DG that was not able to renew her membership. She does not post on this thread so we wanted to keep from embarrassing her, but wanted to make sure she could keep her membership.

Poor Lorna. so sorry she is having a tough time with all this gov't stuff. Not fun.
Susan pretty scarves those curly scarves. I have seen them in some of the craft stores.
busy day today
Tom helped me with my taxes. Made him a big breakfast and a man size roast beef sammich.
Then walmart for some grocery
then to a bike shop to get my bike fixed
then to the gym
laundry , school work, kids dinner , dog dinner. and taking a break.
M hope the wind dies down.
Betty glad you made it safe home. Never a good feeling when an accident is right in front of you.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

omg - my son is coming to Calgary for June 1st (first bit of news)

and for the 2nd bit of news.........
Bob's boss has bought a house in our neighbourhood, and would like us to rent it! Main floor of a bungalow, and the basement is a suite that we can choose the people who live there! There are so many people we could, like Doug (our 81 yr old friend - he lives in a bedroom of a house), or any of our friends that live in the Mobile Home Park.
We'd have 3 bedrooms, and one of the sides of the 2 car garage. Yard in the front, not the back
We would be able to rent out the mobile home until the park closes - there are people who are looking to rent in the Park.
omg - I'm so excited!! To move, AND to meet my son!!

mulege, Mexico

Susan, that's wonderful news. I know what a problem you trailer has been. What a great boss. Bob must be doing an impressive job.

I woke up in a lot of pain. My brain has been seriously fuzzy since the reveal at the IRS. I think I'm going to have to spend some time in Oakland this summer. If I plan it right I can also spend some time with Amma. I really want to do that as I'm just demoralized right now both mentally and physically. Nightmares about old abuse issues.

I'll try to get more sleep and take a pain killer when I wake up and do some gardening. Even with the pain killers I've been in so much pain that it's hard to do anything physical. But I have some new plants that need to go in the ground before our heat sets in.

Sure hope Lorna gets the medical stuff taken care of. I know how that can deplete your energy.

Along with the IRS and other retirement-caused problems I've had about 14 surgeries over the last 10-12 years. On my good days I'm grateful to be hanging in, grateful for Tony, the dogs and my house and garden. Other times I just want to give up and bury myself.

hugs, katie

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Great news Susan!!! Know you have been waiting a long time. How is the scarf coming along?

I sure do know what you mean about red tape regarding Lorna "M". I went to a store nearby with the intentions of renting a wheelchair for when we go to the big exposition grounds to see Brandon ride in the intercollegiate nationals in a couple of weeks. We had a great discussion with the lady there about what Medicare will pay for and what it won't... Since I wouldn't need a chair in the apartment, they will not authorize it. Knowing that life will be much more enjoyable for me with one (could go to a lot more places), we decided to buy one. Walking is the one thing that is really going downhill. The next thing will be a new apartment with no stairs to deal with. We will start looking toward the end of summer.

Must get dressed so I can take the car for inspection this morning.
~~~~~Waving to all and hope you have a great day....
good morning. Hope everyone slept well. I slept like a rock ! wich is funny cuz i usually don't sleep well unless Tom is here ? he is very cuddly.
Susan hooray hooray. SO excited with you. A journey awaits you with a new house and your son.
Barb oh yes no stairs is a wonderful feeling. That sucks on the wheel chair for you :( I have a walker i was given when my auntie died yrs ago. Tim said " what do you need that for ? " and i replied " you just never know ? "
not much going on today.
Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)
Good morning all and everyone :-)
Cat got me up at 6am .. then one of the dogs 'yakked' UNDER our bed .. needless to say, the day has started in an odd fashion .. but, start it has, and, NO going back allowed ..
SUSAN .. well what can I say but BRILLIANT and AWESOME .. as Sue says, a new journey, and an exciting one at that .. hope your knee hangs in there ..
Barb, it's simply shameful what goes on within the health systems .. NO compassion, only the quest for the ALMIGHTY BUCK !!! It's why I've gone to the paper to express my/our disgust ..
Looks to be a fine day out there .. may do some laundry and do some cleaning .. never ends, but, there's yard work to do too .. and, MOST IMPORTANT, doggies to play with LoL
Enjoy your day
