I am here and all is well. Just fighting life. Getting old is the pits and some times I just cave.
We are having a cold spell. Down in the 50s. And wind and rain coming tomorrow. Projectd to be back in mid 60s by Friday.
I took Marilyn's thought an cleaned out my pantry. You must understand that I was raised by hard working parents and my father was a miner. Four children and and we never went hungry but special foods were set aside for my father because he was the man of the house and also worked hard. So I have this deep seated problem with buying groceries. I have gotten better over the years but as far as my mind is concerned there will never be to much food in this house. And now that my DH eats do much less, our pantry had way to much outdated canned goods. What is amazing is I use very little canned goods in my cooking except tomatoes.
But I took a stool into the pantry (large pantry) and a garbage can on wheels from the garage placed by the pantry door. And my cat Boots joined me. I spent over 2 hours an tossed so much outdated food, I actually asked for forgiveness. All the individuals in the world starving and I am tossing food because it has expired. So I have a plan in my head to follow and we will see how long that lasts.
Katie, glad to see you are back and doing better. Mosquitoes are a pain. So glad we do not have them here. Where is the water they use for laying their eggs/babies.
Karen, so glad they found your bed. You will be home soon and feel so much better. How many bypasses did you have?
I finally got rid of the burning in my legs. Dehydrated. Sciatica has calmed down but muscle is still ticked off. But I spend about 1/2 hour in bed massaging the back of my knee and find any knots and hold them until they release. That has helped the pain that is there when I get out of bed. Once I get warmed up, pain is gone. I had the same thing a few years ago. One day it just went away. I am waiting for that to happen again.
Linda, I have a lemon and a lime tree. My Hispanic gardeners get really excited about the limes but not much excitement about the lemons.
My DH had a fall this morning and I would not even know if I had not noticed the read mark on the back of his head in his white hair.
We have 4 doctor appointments this next week. Yuck. But that will take of it for several weeks so might as well do it as the weather ill be cold. Nevada cold that is.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday.
Sharon
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Welcome friends new & old
Morning all,
-17, on the upswing to higher temps, so looking forward to it..overcast but not snowing, snow to come during the week.
Susan, will have to be on the lookout for Gooby.how's the knitting coming?
Sharon, we must have all have spring cleaning on our minds and starting with kitchen..amazing through expired dates how much food we throw away.raised much like yourself, grandparents always worried about a depression so pantries filled to the hilt.with so many food chains having mega sales weekly it's not worth stocking up but hard habit to break.
We are so lucky just to have the aches/pains while other are deathly ill and going through so much more but wow sure makes it rough for daily living, yep aging sucks
When mom and aunt Muriel were here yesterday we went downstairs,Mehta a task for all of us to do what should be an easy thing.
Sorry your hubby had a fall, guess he tries to keep you from fretting. So doesn't let you know, glad is was not a major injury.
i remember from photo's how beautiful your gardens are, bet they arelively at this time of year..like Katie much is in bloom
As I look at my gardens I wonder how on earth there are pretties waiting to come alive under that heavy blanket of snow then comes the thought of all the leaves covering those pretties, bones saying ouch
NO NO to , MOSQUITOES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like Betty, I stare out at the snow and feel the cold, and, wonder how those little beggars can live through it all ..
Was just out to feed the Blue Jays their peanuts .. it's going to be a nice day, MAY get up into the single digits farenhiet .. just now starting to snow, looks kinda 'dreamy' out there because the snow is falling in slow motion .. quite nice really.
UGGggggggggg .. the pantry .. still have to try and get a handle on the portion that holds the dog treats .. OMG .. when you start to re organize and empty one box into another, you realize just how SPOILED our pets are ! Worth every biscuit too LoL
OW, re your hubby Sharon .. when you're stiff it's not hard to take a tumble .. I find I have to watch myself since my hip replacement .. my right leg is sometimes not too compliant, and I KNOW I'd fall if I decided all was 100%
How'd you sleep Karen, I am hoping you slept well ..
Barb ,, all back to normal in the apt ? Betcha you're thrilled :-)
LindaK .. how is your back ..??
Off n runnin .. towels to wash ..
~M~
Back is complaining a lot, I am hoping the injections I get Thursday will help.
Lk hope you can get some relief soon. sending gentle hugs and warm healing thoughts.
Austins team won a game and lost one. Todays games are cancelled due to snow.
M i m with you there girl. I m not looking forward to mosquitos in spring and summer.
BTW i do live in a mosquito pit , so if you come to the gathering, bring spray ! LOL.
i do have mosquito neting for beds and doors. I do have the bug spray guys come regularly to spray. It helps .
Thanks Sue.
I am up and sitting on my ice pad. Pain is subsiding and that is a wonderful thing.
Betty, I found the biggest culprit is my down filled couch. I instantly slouch when I sit on it. But no pain while sitting but as soon as I get up .....Pain. So now I have pillows that are stiff and keep me sitting straight and when I get up no pain. My therapist gave me a gel pad that can be heated or cooled. I only use cold. Seems to work wonders.
Yes Betty, my gardens are absolutely delightful this tie of year. All the hard work in end of October. Next big push is mid may when I get plants ready for the heat. I have an estate gardener that works with me. I pay him the same as day labor but he gets bragging rights on my landscape that reels in more customers for him. He is very good but I refuse to pay his very high prices. Of course everyone wants an English/French garden but does not want to put in the work. But I always say, the older I get the bigger this garden gets.
I have the same problem with falling. But I have not fallen for over a year. I pay attention 100% of the time because when I go down, it is instant. My first thought is, "Oh no, I am falling". If I walk, turn right and am talking at the same time I will usually fall to the right. When I am in the garden I use a cross country ski pole. I have two. One in the back and one in the front. I do not go in a raised bed without one in my hand. Most of my beds are formed by very large boulders buried in the ground.
So Betty, get yourself a cross country ski pool. You can probably find some in your kids garage.
My DH has Parkinson and when he tries to back up, he falls. This last year he has been going down hill fast. He is a full time job but I had everything going well and in hand until I hurt my back lifting his wheelchair. But that was 12/30/2014 and it is just about gone. And I am a tough old broad. Heheheh.
Linda, good luck with your injections. I have never seen a game cancelled for snow. Must be an East thing.
My DH is waking up so I better get moving on his coffee. I have the NASCAR race recording so he will be happy about that.
Take care and have a wonderful day. We may get snow again today. But I am right at the foot of the mountains. It is actually hilarious when we get snow. Sharon
Right now it looks like the race may be canceled if it doesn't stop raining.
Sharon, all the rage here, groups go walking all seasons using them, the in fitness program..tough old broad or not, you'll be doing yourself in lifting him, know it's hard and you want to but don't overdo or you will need someone to look after you.
Right now Katie I think I'd welcome Mosquitos just to get the weather hat goes with it.
LindaKay, injections sound terribly painful but if the work well worth it.
Sue, enjoy your day, bet you aren't upset about the cancellation but now the game has to be rescheduled.
Came upstairs for lunch just after 1:00pm full of ambition, that lasted for all of 5 minutes
Took a bath, put ona nighty and am in bed..Riley laying next to me purring and fireplace crackling
Do plan on getting up at some point
Didn't sleep last night so I am really dragging now. Will be early to bed for me too Betty.I won't be able to fall asleep right away so will read for a bit. Right now I am reading some brain candy books set in the 'low country' of the Carolinas.
Katie I thought of you yesterday when Warren's nephew called me to talk. Really he was bragging about a new gig he has....... he organizes and runs poker games/tournaments on a cruise ship. Ideal job for him. He was a Master Bridge player before he was out of his teens. Quit school at 16 got a permanent job at a factory in Oshawa and retired from the place after 30 years and was just 47. He got banned from some Canadian casinos for card counting.
Someone at my door. Gotta go. Stay safe everyone.
Dianne and her thundering herd
Dianne, sounds like a fun job to get into after retirement.card counting? Thought that was part of the game to know what cards are out amd which haven't yet been played
Don't know much about card playing
Sharon - your poor hubby's head! ouch on the fall!
yeah, sitting on a firmer foundation would be much better for your back.
Marilynne - how do you manage to mention mosquitoes AND snow in the same paragraph????
LK - sorry to hear about your back still giving you anguish
Betty - knitting's going fine - finished a hat (bought her some Static Guard, cuz she has static cling issues and doesn't wear a toque in the winter), "wrist warmers" that go up to first knuckles and has buttons on the side, and am now working on a scarf that buttons in front, for Susan.
Waiting with bated breath to see if she gets her passport this week.
I so hope she does Susan, know how much you've been looking forward to her visit!
She will be thrilled with the gifts.
Sometimes it wonderful just to do nothing Sue, how many times did you ask for just this kind of day?
Wonder how Crissy and Dave are doing?
Susan, do you remember years ago someone had me send you a book of iron on transfers? Someone on my sewing thread is looking for one, she can't remember the name, would you by any chance have the name?
Yeah, Karen sent it
It's called Keepsake Transfer Collection, The Big Book (Ten books in one, over 1,000 iron-on designs).
I have it right here, in the drawer of my computer desk - not going to have another one go missing! It really IS a treasured book. Thanks Again, Karen, for sending it to me - I really, really, really love it :-)
I found the transfer book on Ebay
Betty, last I talked to Crissy....she and JOEL are doing good. He was feeling better.
Been struggling to keep my head up. Kept busy this weekend, DH and I did a lot of running
and got a lot done as far as groceries and things like that. Even got some new pillows
to see if that might help me sleep. Last night...nope.
Betty, cold and snowing here. BUT not as bad as it has been. DS post phoned his leaving
until mid week this coming...due to the weather.
Karen, continued prayers for your healing.
Hope everyone is feeling better.....hubbys are better.....kids are better and soon, the sun will shine!!!
Debbie

Got about 10 calls this morning, chat/chat/chat
And no, the pillows are not working. My head feels like I am sleeping on cement pad.
I do not feel I have sinus issue, don't think is my eyes. DH thinks I might have thrown
something out when I fell down the stairs and should go to the chiro.....but with my
back issue, don't know if I can. I have to call Cleveland Clinic and find that out.
Yes, I also wished DS would change his mind, but, He has done some great changes

now.
Karen, so happy you get to go home!!! Don't over do it!

Waving to all of you......fighting the headache and have my coffee.
Going to mellow for a bit ......
Debbie
Happy birthday Betty. Love you!!!
Judy, I love the pictures of the deer. I too find it hard to believe they are so brave to get so close with all the house there. I bet someone is feeding them?
Sorry to hear your pillows are not working for you Debbie. We buy our pillows at the furniture store. They are a solid piece of foam, with little holes drilled though, and they are the best pillows we have found. We paid $40.00 for our king size pillows, but they last for years.
YEAH, Karen is gong home! Jut listen to your Dr. and do as your told. It is time for those at your home to wait on you for a change!
Hooray, Hooray, Hooray!!!!! Karen's going home, to the extra loving care and watchful eyes of her DH!!!!! Do take care, m'dear and do nothing except what the Dr orders!
Happy Birthday Betty!!!!
