Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Welcome friends old&new!

Dicks last resort. :) And no to the towers of America!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Criminal Minds wasn't on .. there was a DOUBLE 'Mentalist', with a wonderfully happy ending!
Criminal Minds is a corker! I watched an interview done with one of the writers .. he said something to the effect that all the writers had to do was read the newspapers from the various big cities ... chilling that !!!

COLD!!! Getting kind of sick of it now .. knee igh boots and ankle length coats seem to get us all through .. I am NO a hat person !!

Hope everyone has a good day .. have fun LindaK :-)

TOODLES

~M~

Hugs to you this morning Barb ..

Verona, ON

Morning everyone.

Big hugs for you and Norm Barb. Callie is out of pain now and romping around with all of our kits and dogs that have crossed the bridge. I said a little prayer to my Stormy - (my huge GS who loved our kits) asking that he look out for her.

Bitter cold here again. It is -32 on the lake side deck and is supposed to get colder as the day goes on. Severe storm warning out there as well - it is not the amount of snow as it is only a couple of inches but winds. The OPP are urging people not to drive on the 401 from Trenton to Gananoque. due to blizzard like conditions. I was supposed to go out to lunch today and Maryl called wanting to postpone due to weather. I was quite happy with that.

Karen sending positive thoughts and prayers your way for you and your medical team. We'll be there. Pups have promised to be very quiet. I have a friend who had 5 bypasses and like Barb's David and he too is doing great.

How's Gord M?

Betty and M it sounds like the bitter cold is here to stay for a few days. You too Debbie?

I zigged when I should have zagged yesterday and put my back out. I have a bad back the result of a terrible car accident I was in in 1987. Think I will let the heat come from the oil boiler these next few days as lugging that wood in and then stoking the fire is just too much. It usually takes a couple of days for it to settle down if I rest it and apply heat.

Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is indeed bitter cold Dianne and "M"
think Mother Nature is having hot flashes and bringing on the cold

Sorry to hear you are having back problems Dianne, likely carrying in wood

I'm sitting here with a plug in throw enjoying the heat, know it's the cold getting to the bones, as the doc said nothing to do except grin and bare it..

Keep thinking how nice it will be to sit out in the sunshine and feel the rays on me, will be awhile in my neck of the woods but am Florida bound April 3rd..watch them have a cold spell lol

Thinking of you Barb, still to this day I watch when I got out of bed so I don't step on Sailor girl, sure do miss her..know it will be a hard day for you, sending hugs

"M" watched part of the Mentalist, then dozed off..going to miss the show seeing it's the last season..I watch Castle and they look as though they belong together, no so much the Mentalist.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Lorna loves watching CASTLE .. sometimes I find 'Castle' a little fake in his acting, and Beckett a bit intense .. ..
Patrick and Lisbon got married, she announced to him she's pregnant .. a very nice wedding, a few of the old characters came back for the event.
Sheesh, sounds like I KNOW these people LoL

Dianne, ow to the back !!
My brother uses a kids plastic sleigh to bring his wood in, and, I'm starting to think it's a great idea .. it's plastic and goes across the hardwood floor .. my SinL is even OK with it !!

Many thoughts of Barb and Karen today ..
Our 3 pups would (will) be out of sorts when Smokey leaves us to follow Callie ..

No more fightin it, have to get ready to go to the funeral .. at least it's all inside ..

Oh, Barb, I'm so sorry you lost little Callie. It has to be hard, but take comfort in knowing she's not suffering any longer and you did the right thing.

Hugs to all of you with aches and pains....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Karen, how are things going?

well Joyce if you'd send me your warm weather I wouldn't be aching as much, had another sleepless night..next time in town it will be a body pillow for sure..had pillows from the other beds for under my legs, then some to the back of me, finally neck aching so threw that pillow to the end of the bed..kitties finally left my bed, couldn't take my moving around lol

I had heard they were to get married, great that she is pregnant, laughing, we do get to think we know these people..hate funerals, sending hugs

Dishes done, beds made, and few other mundane chores .. wanted to wish 'Critterologist' a happy BDay today ..
She writes so many interesting articles on Daves.

NOW .. fer sure I am a goin :-)

~M~

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I am here in sunny Las Vegas. Ready to start the day and you guys are already half way through. But I am not an early riser like Betty. I go to bed around 11pm and get up around 8am. DH gets up around 10:30am. But he moves slow and if he could he would sleep all day.

I have been sitting on ice for 20 minutes and switching to icing my back and then I will get moving. I need to bathe the pups today and do some general clean up. They get groomed next Friday but they need a bathe. I have a nice dog bathing sink in the laundry room and they are good about their bath.

Just checking in to say hello and telling you all to stay warm. My son, the doctor, and several of my other doctors tell me heat is not good for inflammation. And the majority of back pain is coming from the inflamed muscles.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi - just popped in for a quick hello

After a year of waiting for a recall on my car to be looked after, I called the car dealership about it, and they said "you were notified". NO, I wasn't........
So, they've booked me in for Saturday at 9:15!! wooooo hooooooooo!!

Now, if I can get my car fixed from the accident of Jan 4th!!
Yesterday I got a confusing call from CarStar - calling me Marlene MacKenzie, and they'd lost my info - couldn't find the estimate, never heard from my insurance co, etc etc etc.
Finally they found me - at another repair shop of theirs lol
So, they've gotten all the info from insurance and will get me in asap -as soon as I bring the car in for pictures, and they can schedule me. I can't believe that it's all happening now....... about time, eh? lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Sharon .. the heat/ice controversy is such a sticky wicket ..
When I worked in ER, a fresh sprain, strain, bruising and edema we iced, anyone with an old injury acting up, say a bursitis etc we put heat on .. and then, things would change and it would be the other way around ..
I always preferred ice on inflammation .. sure hop it worked for you ..
Our Westies will do the bath thing, but, they sure are never happy about it .. they don't bolt and run, but are in heaven when it's DONE!!

Susan .. car fixins are just the worst to wait for, I sure hope it gets done in a reasonably time efficient manner .. sometimes they take yer wheels and leave you hostage for 10 days or more ..
Will you have a rental while it's being repaired?

Funeral was lovely (as funerals go) .. 25 minutes start to finish, with a nice reception following.
Nice to see nursing colleagues .. made Carmen (the wife) feel better too ..

Off to go out and play with the dogs while the sun is still shining .. I am noticing LONGER days, and earlier morning light :-)

Now you will be run off your feet Susan getting your car done....finally a plan coming together!

LindaKay, how did your day go with (Deb) Joeswife?

Sharon, my first instinct always, guess because it feels so good is to put heat to anything hurting. Guess that is why the biofreeze works so well when I spray knees/hip and shoulders
hope your doctoring yourself eases the pain.

"M" I bought a tobagan so I could get my garbage to the roadside..sure makes things easier.

did 2 1/2" blocks for the candle piece I did (had pieces left from when the girls came Monday so thought why not make use of them) then knit for awhile, could have put the neck warmer on the machine, would have taken no time at all to do it but wanted something to sit and knit..dozed off for an hour and now I have to give myself a kick and get ready for the gals that come and sew tonight..always a great idea when we say 'why not sew Thursday nights' but then Thursday afternoon comes and I say 'drats/drats/drats'

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We had a wonderful visit. I will post pictures when I get home tomorrow.

Lyndonville, NY

I had quite the day, spent much of it saying prayers.

Between driving to Rochester in the weather, and then my exam.

Another scare for breast cancer. My 45 minute exam turned into 3 1/2 hours.
Breast if full of cysts, thankfully, just fluid filled...and will be watched. If they become
painful will need needle biopsy draining. She said most likely will just come back.

Although sitting there alone, I sure felt my Mom with me. You NEVER hear the theme from
Dr. Zhivago on radio, but there it was (her favorite movie) and then What a Wonderful World.

The weather was white outs on the way home...was thankful to be home!!!

Back out tomorrow morning with DS to the chiro.

Debbie

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sorry for the scare Debbie. Nice to know your Mom was watching.

Glad you had a good visit LK. Looking forward to pictures.

Please keep my Daughter and her family in your thoughts along with folks in the path of Cyclone Marcia as it moves ashore in Queensland Australia. Marcia is a Category 5 storm and came ashore near Yeppoon. As yet Brisbane is only predicted to get some winds and heavy rain, but today is the annual highest tide and may cause some flooding.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/cyclone-marcia-live-coverage-20150219-13iuaw.html

Kathy sending warm hugs to you.
Lk glad you had a nice visit. how fun to meet with other DGers. I can't wait to meet everyone at the gathering in june at my house.
Barb i m so sorry to hear about Callie. sending you warm thoughts and hugs. never easy when our furr babies cross over.
Awww Deb that is scary. wow 3/12 hrs. Waiting is so aganizing. sending warm hugs to you.
Cookie i agree this cold is the pits !!! we are summer time girls !
kids didn't have school today. hopefully they go tomorrow.
went to gym,,, nothing outstanding LOL . just fun with my trainer Tiffany. I do enjoy going. She is a hoot.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Norm and I are still a bit misty but we know this will pass. Callie was such a sweetheart of a cat and we will miss her dearly....

Betty does really feel good but my son caught me using it and had a hissy. Mom, that will just make the inflammation worse. But I told him it felt so wonderful. So I had to give up the heat. I am thinking tonight I might use the ice in a vodka with 2 olives. If it does not help the pain, I will not care.

DH and I went to Dr. Zhivago on our first date. We dated several years before we got married. I need to see i again. I may understand it more now that I am older. But I love the music.

Debbie, that sounds like a frightening trip home.

Betty, I do that all of the time. A week before, something on Friday sounds fine then Friday shows up. It is always, "What was I thinking?"

The dogs are bathed and walked twice, DH and animals are fed and I am finally sitting. I got some laundry done but still one more load to do. But I did get the laundry room straightened up. Kitchen still needs my attention.

DH went for another walk with me again today. Another 1000 feet. That is one way. He told me he was not going so I went the long way around and there he was sitting on the bench when we got close to home. He was enjoying the sun's heat on his body.

I need to move on. I still have not paid the bills. Need to do that. Have a good day tomorrow.
Barb, Callie was a great name for a Calico. She was a beautiful cat.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Barb, so sorry I missed your first post. Hugs for you both, I know you will miss Callie. It can be so hard doing what is best for our beloved pets.

We are playing the waiting game with Max, our 20 year old kitty. He has finally gone pretty much blind, but the vet says as long as he makes his way around and continues to eat, drink, find his litter box and bathe, he sees no reason to do more than keep an eye on him. He just had his checkup last week...and griped as loudly as ever at the indignity of it all. grin

Morning all

Bitter -37 with wind chill, blue sky and sun trying it's best to say hello.
See youngsters walking to catch bus, all huddle together in a group trying to stay warm.
Had a tragedy in the city yesterday, a 3 year old boy who was visiting with grandma woke up at about 4am, with nothing more than undies and boots he made his way out..mid morning they found him but could not bring him back to life..I believe if I've got it right that his mom lived nearby, they think he woke and decided to go home..what a tragedy for all.

Took 2 Tylenol 3 with codein, gravol (always makes me sleep) and sprayed myself big time with bio freeze and slept like a babe for most of the night...sure felt good. Decided I will not get out of my jammies today unless they can fit me in for a perm..going to play and be lazy.

Karen, thinking if you this morning, hoping today is a good day for you and that all have managed to relieve you of some of your fears..

Debbie, how frightening for you, thank the Lord they were not cancerous. Can't imGine those hours sitting, waiting for results. Glad you had mom by your side, that alone must have told you all would be ok. Hugs. Hooe weather is cooperating this a.m for your drive re Shane. Did he and girlfriend keep their apartment out west or do they have to find lodgings?

Jean, any news on the family? 20 years of having Max by your side, a trusted companion, how you must be dreading the day when he visits with Callie.

Barb, thanks for sharing photo of Callie, beautiful kitty..

Sharon, smiling, can see your son shaking his finger, giving you the what for..hard to know what to do as "M" says but if it helps I say do it. Great that Vern is trying to walk even though he puts up a fuss.

Sue, June seems so far away and yet before you know it, we will be packing out bags..might have to bring someone with me though to keep me company if ok..we will see, I might be brave. Lol

Katie, checking in on you? Not overdoing I hope

Shalzbat . Barb .. I can't get anywhere with the link, says I have to sign in ..

Our 20 yr old Smokey downed HALF A CAN of tuna this morning !! Always a trick to get him to eat, feels so thin in our arms .. looks up at us with his one good eye, and, purrs away .. he and Max must be bonded from afar Jean :-)

OW, Debbie, cystic breasts are just so tenuous .. and, painful .. glad the results were negative, will the docs aspirate the cysts?
Nice to know Mom was on board ..

Betty .. this cold can GO anytime now .. the news story re baby Elijah is all over our news here, so sad ..
A young girl in Winnipeg did the same thing a few years back, BUT, they were able to bring her back !!! I do think she wasn't out as long as the little one in Toronto.

A go slow, do nuttin day (so far)
Going to take the pups out for a quick play ..

Stay warm all ..

Wavin hi to Marion, Mary, DIanne, Katie, LindaK ....................................................

Just tragic for sure

Barb, will try the link

Sitting here in nightie enjoying rays of sunshine, feels nice, might just stay here for the rest of the day

iPad was sitting on the coffee table, went to grab it, sure was hot from sunshine beaming in, think I should leave it out of the Ray so doesn't do damage.

I have a black/white tote to run pull cord through and sew on a button..it's so pretty I'm tempted to keep it for myself even though I've a black/white one

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone, I am back home, I had a wonderful visit with Debra. She said NO to the tower of Americas, we sat at Dicks last resort, and just chatted for hours, walked the river walk a bit.

Jean saying prayers for your family.

Betty, glad to hear you got a good nights sleep.

Karen we have been thinking of you and sending many prayers your way.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Also sending prayers for baby Elijah' family, that is so sad!

Barb, that link did not work, it also told me I had to sign in!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Betty, Daughter Jan will call with an update later today. Brisbane is 15 hours ahead of my time, so it will be her Saturday morning, my Friday evening. Seems like rain and a bit of wind is all they are looking at. Glad to hear you got some good sleep.

Good for Smokey. Max is quite content it seems. His major gripe is that I will not let him go outside as much as he wants to. His sense of smell is working quite well and he has a couple favorite sunning spots. Right now he has no trouble getting to them and he climbs up and down from his sofa spot unaided and has no problem bellying up to the food dish(grin)

Max, like Smokey feels much lighter, but has always been a small cat. We just have to take extra care to always know where he is so he doesn't get stepped on. We are used to having a blind pet. Benny Beagle is 14 and has been blind since birth.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks LK. Looks like you and Debra had a grand time together.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Awww want to be on the Riverwalk!! Love the photo lindaKay..got to say I'm smiling just at the thought of all the goings on at the restaurant, had best time ever there.

Jean, so glad your family is out of danger, will be looking for an update.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Please keep Karen in your prayers, as she has had another heart attack. She is in the hospital, waiting on surgery, as she has been on blood thinners. I sent her a message this morning, and gave her my phone number, just in case she wanted to talk to someone, this was her reply....

Thank you Linda, had a pretty ugly night. They have me in I C U. They gave me so many blood thinners that blood was coming out of me everywhere.Gave me a bunch of blood. Did another scope and found nothing. Was vomiting blood all night, was a mess. Still haven't seen dr. to see what's next. Very upset had a break down. Tired.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good thoughts and healing energy and prayers for Karen. Scary times for her and family. Sending lots of hugs here way. Thanks LK.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Prayers a plenty from the north ..
Is Karen in hospital in Michigan?

Finally going to jet out and play with the dogs .. HO HO HO .. it's snowing ..

Save me a place in the waiting room for Karen ..

BBL

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Praying that.the operation is soon so they can fix what is ailing..heart attacks are getting closer to each other, why the waiting??

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I think Karen said thy were waiting because of some drugs that had to work their way out of her system.

I slept thee majority of the night on my back with my right leg bent. When I got up this morning, no spasm. I did have some muscle pain but it is getting better every day. This happened on Dec. 30th. But didn't go to the doctor for over 6 weeks. Sound familiar Betty.

Vern got up and out to the living room area again at 10:30am. That is 2 days in a row. He knows that makes my day easier and I am so thankful he is trying.

That sounds so critical for Karen. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers through out the day.

Linda, looks like you two were having fun.

So I must get the day started. You all have a great day. Sharon

Lyndonville, NY

Just back from Rochester and read of Karen....

Sending lots of prayers. They will have to thicken up her blood some before surgery, wow, double edge there...darned if they do...darned if they don't. Just praying.

Nice morning out with my DS. Then home and he played piano with some new songs.
Loved it.

WIll check back if I can stay awake. I am just sinking.

M....I know nothing of the fibercystic breasts. Have to do some reading. She said they will drain if they bother me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Breasts are so tender Debbie, hate to think of the idea of draining. Did you have to fight a storm Deb..I've been on the couch since early morning surrounded by kitties, I think it would do you the world of good to do same.

Worried about Karen, understand the reasoning behind the waiting.

Sharon, so glad hubby is trying his best to get his strength up.

Suzanne dropped.in, gave her 2 dolls for her granddaughters, she was on her way home, son/ hubby were making supper then they will be going to movies.,asked if I wanted to join them, said 'do I look like I can go anywhere?' Both laughed, It's Jammie weekend for me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Must teach the kitties how to take a photo of me taking it easy. 😉

omg - I'm not surprised that Karen's had a breakdown...... poor girl! I hope those meds work through her system quickly and she has the operation.......... Scares ME to think of what she's going through, and she's Living It!

I'm taking my car in today, to have them take pictures. One guy mentioned notes on estimate saying "ABS" and we both thought the estimator meant "anti-lock brake system" when what he meant was short form of "absorbers".......... shock absorbers lol now, I'm not so worried driving my car around....
They want pictures, duct tape and all, so they can show what I have to drive in while waiting over-long for repairs.
btw - told the estimator to watch his acronyms.......

Lyndonville, NY

It is very cold....but not snowing yet. SO, was not bad driving and I really enjoyed the time with Shane. We went to book store and also Michaels, can't go wrong there. lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

No Joanns?? saw the no sew quilts (72") were on sale today for 60% off😪
How old Shane now, 21? Glad weather cooperated, nice and clear here as well

Susan, terminology has you guessing. Lol. You will be pleased to have the repairs behind you

June dropped in for a vist then Rita, she just left...so haven't been lonely

Finished black/white tote bag (almost went home with June) and did edging in 2 1/2" blocks on the candle piece..looks nice..I so need to get to joanns for thread

Grabbed my bag of knitting before coming upstairs, will give me something to do while on the couch watching tv. tonight

Should order pizza from next door, they do delivery!!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

The balancing act for the anti coagulants (blood thinners) is a very delicate balance ..
LOTS of monitoring of the blood .. Karen likely has a separate line in for that so it's easy to take a blood spec ..
Hopefully they'll be sedating her as well ..
Will continue with thoughts and prayers ..

Susan good to know your car is safe to drive ..

We have a BREAK in the POLAR cold .. it's about zero here and it has snowed all day, have shovelled once, getting ready to take the dogs out and do so once agin ..

Gord is not doing all that well .. his hands are bothering him to the MAX ..
he has lost MORE weight as well ..

Lorna has appts coming up .. one for changes to her prosthesis, and 1 or 2 for a new wheelchair and a walker .. she has about used hers into the ground .. she was due new equipment at 3 years, but, waited .. this will be miraculous if it all turns out well .. but.. government depts. have a way of screwing up things ..

Best get movin on

Fingers crossed for Karen .. does anyone in her family have one of our email addresses ?
