Hi Everyone, Laundry is calling me but I must give you a quick update. I've been offline for almost a week. Had a good visit with my friend and his parents in LA, then camped for several days. Supposed to hear from kaiser tomorrow about the time of my surgery Friday. Meanwhile, I got an email from Maria a few minutes ago and she and Tony and the furries are all fine. The usualy problems with electricity out and the road washed out and the phones out but things are coming back and nothing is nearly as bad as in Cabo. Two more storms showing at the National Hurrican Center site. Hoping for the best. Tony is feeding the dogs in the morning and Maria visits them in the evening.

Susan, sorry to hear you've been laid off.

Will be back later. I've got a bunch of books and I'm hunkering down, waiting to have the surgery. The waiting for it is usually the worst part. I won't know until after if I need chemotherapy. I sure hope not.

Been to dealership, have to leave it for a day or two if parts need to be ordered so will drop it off in the a.m.

Meeting a friend for breakfast as she is picking me up at the dealership and if the car is ready today I'll hitch a ride back..they did say they could come get me but just as easy to go in myself..here's hoping it's an easy and cheap fix and I can get it back today..likely not, poor car has worked like a charm these past 2 years, like humans it gets tired.Greg dropped in last night and said as Kyle works at the dealership why not give grandma his new car..nope, it is standard and doesn't want to take a chance the gears would be screwed up..Greg reminded him he always drove grandma's new vehicles and that she has driven standard for more years than he and himself had..a pro

I'll have to edge Kyle on today and ask him to see what he says about grandma and his car...

LindaKay, I drive Darlene's Mustang to Florida then fly back so no miles on my car this time.

yesterday I got 2 Christmas tree skirts quilted, made the binding so have that to sew..was telling them I was done with the small pieces and this morning while searching totes I found 4 more to be done..

Missy is driving me crazy, want me to pet her all day, sitting here trying to move my hand towards her so guess I'd best do it and then get ready for 7:30 drop off

Dealership just called me

Said there was good news/bad news for me

Good news it's the thermostat and seal and that it is covered under the power train warrantee
Bad news is they have the thermostat but no seal, will not get it till tomorrow late afternoon

What's the difference between being laid off and fired? Isn't laid off a temporary thing? I know that this is a permanent thing......

Fired always seems so harsh to say

If you are fired, it implies you either did something wrong, or that you were not capable of doing the job. Employees who are fired here can not collect unemployment and do not get severance paid.

Employees who are let go (laid off) due to company downsizing, RIWF, or the company having financial problems (Chapter 11) , etc are eligible for unemployment benefits/severance pay.

Fired can make it very hard to find employment...laid off, not so much.

Good news on the car Betty...now you will have to catch up with yourself... Grin Oh, an observation.....it seems you are seeing your Mom more often with a LOT less stress and upset. That makes it so much nicer for you both.

Yes Jean, it's just too bad mom is going back home oct 12th because yes it's actually been great visits, most are positive visits..know she will not be eating properly again and likely taking more meds than she should and will be alone..but she has it in her mind it's the p,ace to be.

All is well .. just trying to gear up for the arrival of Lorna's parents on Sunday morning.
Finally resorted to making a list, first on the list was brekkie with DH this morning, then shopping for groceries and some other stuffies.
Lorna's last day at work is tomorrrow .. it was to have been Friday but she has an extended docs appt from 10-noon and her boss said to take the day off YAHOOOOO ....
Get to go for lunch and then make our plan for the weekend..
As well, this Stevens johnsons has been kickin me in the butt with an ulcer (ALIEN) under my left eyelid .. have been babying it with normal saline soaks (hot as I can tolerate) and some antibiotic cream, AND, today it looks better ...
My skin is another situation, I sure do hope it comes back !!! Looks like LIZARD skin on my legs !!!

Once had a vehicle whose CHECK ENGINE light would come on if the gas cap wasn't on tight enough . .

I used to speed around and put in a full days work before going in for my 3-11pm shift .. often wonder how I did it .. and 6 or 7 in a row!!!
