(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the new room Jaye!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Marking my place! Thanks for the hugs everyone. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him and wish I could have a chat with him. We certainly had a special bond. Wonder if my brothers realized it was the anniversary yesterday.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Love the new room but did you save the old chair that I have been sent to so often in rooms past? Sorta got attached to the thing. :-)

Nice nails Kathy but and "A" surely you jest!!! Let the season begin!!!!!

Jaye, I am thinking more and more that I need to come place a foot in a certain part of his anatomy. Bad boy!!

Worked outside for about 3 hours this morning but then it go way to warm for this old lady...having mint tea break for now. I am beginning to think the more I do, the more there is to do.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh man!! I thought it was just me, Marion!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Nope, you have company in the work arena. Just wish we lived closer so we could help each other out. Shucks, wish I lived closer to all of you...why don't y'all just pick up and move to Florida? :-)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Does the word HOT have any meaning for you?!?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish we were all closer too! Toes in the sand, and mint tea!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

gonna be in the triple digits this weekend

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

90's for us. We haven't had 3 days of 90 together all summer, but it's coming this weekend! Guess that's better than triple digits!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL, why yes it does Joyce. Hot as in 100 predicted for Friday. We could get up early and do our work before it got so hot...provided you move.

LK, you would have to drive a ways from my house to wiggle your toes in the sand. Now if it is dirt you want..not a problem. Plenty of that right in the back yard.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

The corn processing is about to start I will freeze 16 pkgs with 2 cups ea and can the rest in pints. I am going to try the no blanch freezing method hope it works well. The couple who gave me the recipe are convinced it is the best thing since sliced bread and PB with honey.

Linda toes in the sand must be a Texan thing. I first heard that as when it gets rough dig your toes into the sand and lean into the wind.

Jordan KJ triple digits would kill me for sure. About those nails efin ewe wur two dew yur toes now that would have an effect.

Marion surely you jest move to FL lol I landed in Orlando in May and never left the plane it was so hot the heat waves rising up had blisters . I lost all the desire to go fishing there right on the runway. I know there has to be a better part of FL than that airport. I may just come there to fish one day. Beside you have alligators and snakes yuk to both.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Ernie, Me toes is done, but I won't show me feets
put up 12 pints of spiced peach jam. now time to clean up the mess
need to be to the church by 4, I'm running late.
Had to wait 15 minutes to pick up a prescription that was ready.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm not moving to Florida either, but it is way too hot here too. At least we don't have gators and snakes, that would send me off screaming. Maybe snakes in the mountains, but not going there either.

Awww Ernie, you are a cutie! You guys just do too much work, I am a lazy one. Friend that lives about an hour away from us is experiencing rain and lots of it with thunder too. Here it is sunny and I'm hoping the rain will come our way.

My friend whose BIL was run over by his tractor was in surgery for 17 hours. That poor guy, must be in terrible pain. She said he is doing fine, waiting for more update on him. Sure has been a bad year, so far, for a lot of us.

Now that half my day is over I guess I could get myself moving. Need to go and get food for the doggies. Did the London broil in crock pot with pkg. of onion soup and I didn't think it was so good, but then I don't eat much meat. Son said it was good and he is planning on having sandwiches for the week. I never really liked to cook, but trying a few recipes that look good to me. Need to make myself some spaghetti too, missed that when Darwin didn't want to eat any pasta. In fact, he didn't want to eat anything and that was frustrating. I'm going to get my clippers and cut down that old brown tomato plant.

Pretty red nails, I've never had my nails done. Must be a special treat.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Come on now....gators and snakes...yes but that is just Florida. In fact, we have 3 gators in our lake currently but if you don't bother them, they will not bother you. Definitely don't be foolish and feed them marshmellows like some of the residents do. Duh! Personally I wish we didn't have snakes but that just goes with the state....and in the case where I live also. The area has been kept rather natural.

Ernie, I am drooling just thinking of the corn you have put up. Enjoy!!

Kathy, spiced peach jam? Sounds wonderful.

Dumb me, after coming inside and cooling down, I then decided to go back out again for a couple more hours. It really feels good after so many years of not being able to really work on the yard. I am sure tomorrow my body will tell me I over did it but for now I am one happy lady!!

Off to think what to fix the working lady for dinner. I would hate for Kim to come home and not find dinner ready...she might put her mom out on the street. :-(

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You're cute, Ernie! Could just pinch those cheeks!
Oh my so much corn. Don't forget when you run out of ideas on what to do with them, corn ice cream is a treat!

90s in Ohio? Dip your toes in your pond, Cookie!

Marion, I wouldn't mind moving to Florida, no difference here.. triple digits heat, hurricane, mosquitoes, but no gators. Just got to give up on plants that require some cold.
If and when Kim decide she had to fire the cook, come on over Marion. You don't have to cook at all, and I sure need help in retraining Kel!! Lol!

It will be a freshman qb for sure Sis Kathy. 2 duking it out, and I really don't think LSU will be a threat to any SEC team. Might as well, since there's the new SEC channel, and I don't know how much that will cost us.

Pegi, your appetite will return. I am glad that you have a son that checks on you and he's not fussy when it comes to food.

Can anyone say "Ramen"? Yup. Ramen noodles with Vienna sausage for supper. Toast for lunch and still I don't have any appetite for something big.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Looks like I'm not the only one playing in corn today! Bill picked and shucked 97 ears today. That makes a grand total of 192 ears for 2 pickings. We decided to let the last two rows be for eating and giving away. So today I put up 33 bags of corn for a grand total of 64 pints in the freezer. Whew. Glad that's over! Tomorrow will be another roasted tomato sauce day.

Bill took Cayenne to the vet today. She has a skin infection. So she got a steroid shot, antibiotics and prednisone. Also got some medicated shampoo. Poor baby, she's miserable. The steroid shot knocked her out though! Not even going to tell you what that cost!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Cookie, if she's on both prednisone and steroid shot, she'd be hungry all the time!
Lola's on prednisone, no steroid shots as she's too small. Poor gal eats as though we don't feed her enough.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Marion, take a nice hot shower, so your not too sore tomorrow!

Jaye, how come your not hungry!

Cookie, sorry to hear about y our fur baby! Hope those meds work quickly for her!

Well, we had another scare with Dad today. My Sis called about 3:30 and said Dad had a high fever, was jaundice, and was not eating or drinking, so off to the ER they went. After blood work came back, she was told that Dads blood lever was really low, and that he is severely anemic. So they admitted him to the hospital, and are doing blood transfusions, he also has a bad UTI, so he is on anti bio-tics for that, Then they did a cat scan, to figure out where and why he was losing blood. There is no internal bleeding. Now they are trying to figure out how he lost so much blood! Kathy is thinking he lost it during his amputation surgery? If that is the case, the Dr.'s did a lousy job with that. They should have noticed how much blood he lost! Guess every place has bad Dr.'s!!!

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone Hugs and Prayers to ALL . Nice to meet you Ernie .....I'm a lurker that comes and goes !!!

Speaking of HUSBANDS Jaye ......... if I was 10 years younger,50lbs lighter and oh yeah ,healthy ,I'd kick mine ........maybe to the curb !!!!!
I am so tired of babysitting a 6' , 225lb know-it-all brat ....that knows nothing and has no gumption to pick up after himself !!!!!! I have to follow behind him more than I did Ryan when Ryan was a toddler !
I have been telling him forever to make sure the screen door latches or pull the main door shut when he pops outside ,for even just a minute !Because our cat Jack thinks that she is one of us and should do whatever we do and will try and sneak out ! He always said I was OVER REACTING and she would be fine if she got out !! She has NEVER touched grass since she opened her eyes 15 years ago and her mom left her in the backyard. The vet said she was too young and would never make it .I bottle fed ,wipe a little butt and low and behold she made it ..........until Rick didn't make sure the screen door was latched tight and now I haven't seen her in almost 3 days. I know she isn't coming back ,we have to many coyotes in the woods and too much traffic on the road ,She is scared of everything even a plastic grocery bag.She would never go to a stranger or catch anything to eat .She caught a mouse one time and Honest to God got the dry heaves .
He even yelled at me the next morning saying I was interrogating him and tonight I nipped my words when he tried to talk to me and he said ,how long are you going to act like this ......Well tonight when he came to bed I finally told him that I blamed him that she is gone !! I never thought I could love an animal so much ! Or that I could hate Rick so much for his negligence ! He has screwed up over the years but I could always get passed it or fix it and this I can't .
Sorry I just had to vent while I wipe my tears ......

Coffee is ready...plenty too.

Synda so sorry to hear about your cat. I am that way about our cats...they are all inside creatures and the newest one, Bobbi Bad Cat, is horrible about hearing a door open and trying to escape!! Yes, I did say "hearing a door open"...she can appear from no where. Your kitty looks so much like one Kim had many years ago.....they could be twins. She had named hers Dr. Wizardo but alas he did die of natural causes at 20. Hard to believe a cat was that old.

Jaye, thanks for the offer. I will certainly keep that in mind. I heard Kim laughing really hard last night and inquired as to what was so funny. Apparently she had posted something on FB and you responded.......she said she would so love to meet you and have a visit.

LK, sorry to read about your dad. Sending hugs and prayers all goes well and they find the reason soon.

Ernie and Cookie, wow!! what a haul of corn. Love seeing all the pictures and reading of the canning/freezing that is taking place.

Busy day today so will check back later.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!

Synda, so sorry to hear about your kitty missing! I pray she comes back home soon!

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Marion I love to can because I can and I have a great place to can. I can in my wood shop. I have an electric range out there and water in the warm green house. I open the window and push a hose through and walla I have everything I need. This way I don't need to hear about how something fell on the floor. Just bugs me when mrs clean comes around my stuff. Some times she puts it away before I get it used then I go nuts trying to find it. Grrrr

Synda don't give up on kitty just yet. Cats are pretty resourceful and she can still be hunkered down hiding from the strange sounds and sights. Sorry for your distress I know the feeling and am most anxious when my nocturnal Manx who is elusive and nasty naughty disappears. She has a bad habit she slaps when you get close to her. She was an abused cat when I took her home and she goes on walkabouts for up to a week or so before she shows back up. I always think she has met her fate then poof she arrives back at her food dish.

LindaK sorry dad is having problems. Yep Drs are some times dipsticks. One left my dibetes undiagnosed for a long time even though a quizzed him about it. But then there are the good Drs like the guy who fixed my wrist. Anyway I hope he is on the healing path now.

Scape what in the world is corn ice cream. I love the stuff but really ice cream or is that a joke I missed?

I better go to bed if I am going to get any sleep.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ernie, I have never heard of corn ice cream either, but I found several recipes when I Googled it. Here is one of them.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/sweet-corn-ice-cream-recipe.html

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

LK, so sorry to hear Dad isn't doing well. Prayers for him and you guys, too.

Oh Synda, that's awful about your kitty. I know from being on here with you for a long time how much you love Rick, but sometimes no matter how much we love them they can really do something STUPID! Hope kitty comes home. She's certainly a beauty.

Off to pick tomatoes. We got an inch and a quarter of rain in the night and more is in Indiana heading our way. So, get it now or not get it today!!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

+
praying for Linda's dad.
put up 11 pints of spiced peach jam. That was after I 1/2 the box. went and bought another box today, so I can can peaches for the winter.
Went to the fat dr., lost 3.8 pounds this weeks which brings me to 38 pounds!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW! That is great weight lose Kathy! Glad your diet is working for you!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Linda, I really was scared after I ate all them peaches, but it's better than ice creaam

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Ernie, I have a Manx cat but she is just extremely active. Had one many years ago that my daughter had "lucked" into. One of her neighbors raised Manxs for shows. They had a litter and after taking the ones showing potential, they then offered Kim one for free...she loves cats. Long story, short version...I ended up with her. Beautiful white and oh so lovable. I know own an Egyptian Mau that my late husband adopted from Orcat in Ocean Reef, FL. She was his cat and has had nothing but bad temper for me since his passing. Still I keep her and do the best I can.

Cookie, we sent that rain to you for your crops. :-) Looking like we might get some this afternoon. Mixed feelings whether we do or don't as I am leaving to drive to Bainbridge in a few minutes. Not a bad drive but prefer no rain while doing it.

Great news Kathy..keep it up. I had a check up with the Cardiologist today and yeap, I still have a heart. Finally allowed that the problems I was having were related to the situation with Sue as test show nothing. Healthy for my age...just ornery. :-)

Missing you Jaye..where are you and Karen, Barb and all the others?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Just picked the last of the maters and watermelon. Now I'm making roasted tomato sauce

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Everyone is busy canning, putting up preserves and I just sit back and wonder where all that energy comes from. Got to get my green waste barrel out in front and finish filling it up with weeds I pulled
Morning glories have taken over again and although they are so pretty I'm tired of them invading all the space. All started when a bird dropped a seed a couple years ago. I now know how invasive they can be.. We never got a drop of rain that fell all around us.

Sorry to hear all the problems that are cropping up, hope your kitty shows up soon Synda.

Got to reheat my coffee then do some cleaning. I know I say I'm going to clean but other things pop up that are more important, like maybe a short nap. LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Been having severe headaches, and all I want to do today is sleep. That didn't help, it's still there.

Said prayers for Jack, that she finds her way home, Synda. It's frustrating when it's just a matter of paying attention, but then accidents happen. Do you want me to find a perfect switch for Rick?

OMG, how, how could the doctor be that negligent, LK? Prayers said for your dad, and your family as well. You all sure don't need another scare, I hope they keep a close eye on your dad.

Congrats on the weight loss Sis Kathy. How many more pounds to go? Kaden will help you with that!

Cookie, seems this year you have become a produce farmer!! Will you be canning those tomatoes?

Short naps are good, rest Pegi. Your mind needs that. AND it's okay to be lazy!

Ernie, I am Jaye, the incredible Asian Cajun Redneck :) (Got to praise myself now and then)
Back in Singapore, where I'm from, corn is used primarily for desserts, or thickeners, like corn starch and if used whole, the baby corns in stir frys. So... we grew up with corn ice cream. Guess the kernels are pulverized and mixed into the fats.
There's also corn custards, corn pancakes (not savory) and best of all, yes, corn ice cream.
Fresh boiled corns, unshucked, will be sold by vendors on push carts. That was a treat for us at five cents a piece.
Sometimes I wonder if corn originate in South America, how did it find its way to Asia..
My late grandma had a little corn patch. She used to say, that if she wanted pretty ears, she had to make sure the corns are neatly sowed, and if we're helping, we should sow with respect. I guess that's her way of making sure we don't make a mess!!

That's great news Marion! Your heart's enjoying the benefits of less stress, and may this continue forever.
Well I was seized by laughter at Kim's posting of a 'weird beige foreign neighbor'. Can't help but respond. I had read a poem eons ago on i before e rule, and remember this line.
"Madeira in a stein" of course, wine related!!
Tell Kim, one day, we'll have that chance, and as for quick repartees, Kelvin's sovereign!
