Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Welcome friend old/new

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sue, so glad your payment arrived!

Betty, so sorry to hear about your friend. We hear that in the news about every other month or so! So sad!

Katie, make sure you keep an eye on that bite, and get some antibiotics if you need to!

"M", have you taken all your steroids? If it is not getting better you need to go back to urgent care or the ER!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My Sis just called and said Dad has been moved back to the nursing home! He still has the catheter in place, and will keep it there till he see's the urologist in 2 weeks. Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers!

Lk sorry to hear dad has to go back to the nursing home. He has to wait two weeks ! wow . that is a long time to wait ?
I convinced Tim he needs to pay my alimony on the first of the month. We thought doing two payments would work but its not. His pay days land second week of the months. My bills are due on the first week of the month.
Oh Betty that poor mom. She must be devistated ! sending hugs and prayers to her .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nursing home is a good thing Sue. It means he is well enough to leave the hospital.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Hazy here so guess it will be a hot one
Did say we would have storm last night, thought we would but it passed us on by.

Brought mom her meds and clothing Sharon gave me, only thing missing was shoes so guess another trip is in order. She had her tote bag packed, she will either go to aunt Muriel's this afternoon or tomorrow morning and will stay for a few days, told her to remember to call me so I don't go visit thinking she is there. She looked so good yesterday.cant believe the difference.

As for the baby, should hear a bit more today..sad indeed.

Great news LindaKay re your dad!!

Katie, you are indeed kind to Tony and his wife..I don't believe I've ever seen a fan run by batteries, imagine camping stores would have have such a think.how is the bite this morning, o nfection I hope.

Sue. Takes a bit to get into a routine, glad that Tim is cooperating.

Need a coffee

Morning ..

Good to hear your Dad is back to more familiar surroundings Linda K ..

As for that poor mom Betty .. what can ya say .. had a call like that when i worked for VCARS with the police a few years back .. same thing, breast feeding. babe latched on and feeding, 2 year ols cuddled up as well, all fell asleep, babe never wakened. .. poor woman was inconsolable ..and, treated as guilty until proven innocent (accidental) .. these things DO happen ..

Not sure what's up today .. supposed to be a stellar day, likely do some laundry and hang it outside .. am hoping DH comes home .. but, he runs on his own time clock.
I was up 3xs last night with the itching .. plain fed up with it ..

Hope everyone makes a day to remember

HUGS

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

"M", did the Dr's give you anything for the itching? Maybe you can call them and ask for something? A nice bath with baking soda?

Morning everyone!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Yup .. I got a SMALL jar of light hydrocortisone cream mixed with camphor and body cream.
AND, I am saying a SMALL jar for a FULL body rash, so, I have used it sparingly to say the least, there's one repeat on it though .. my problem is getting it between my shoulder blades ! ALWAYS where the itch seems to go !! I did try a wooden spoon ,, what a mess that was !!
As for a bath in a tub, it's not gonna happen .. 90% of folks who have had a hip replacement can't have tub baths .. I have seriously been considering one of those 'walk in tubs' .. but, I'm happy with the shower .. even a cool shower relieves some of the itch ..
I must say, whispering here, that, so far today I am not quite as itchy, but, my eyelids are red and puffy .. and I keep wanting to rub my eyes ..

Did get the laundry on the line, cleaned and refilled the Hummie feeders .. took down a tattered Westie banner that was on the gate post to the house, sure has seen better days .. am going to see if I can order another one ..
Now I am about to start the tedious task of tidying up .. putting things back where they belong, sorting recycling .. all that FUN stuff ,, NOT !!!

Take care

~M~

"M" look at a drug store, my mom had a long handled sponge that was made for applying lotions to the back.

Victoria Harbour, ON

"M" I use a spatula for my voltaren..works well and the rubber doesn't cut into the flesh

Always one n my tote bag

Linda went on trip with hubby, they are just north of Springfield ll
She emailed to say she slid in tub this a,.m.
Kept calling hubby and he was snoring away, didn't hear her cry out

That girl should have wore her bubble outfit. Lol

mulege, Mexico

M- if you can't do an oatmeal bath could you mix some oatmeal with yogurt and honey - it could sooth. I used to do an oatmeal bath to sooth baad itching.

One battery fan was from Walmart and was only about $10. The on I got for Tony and his wife was from Ryobi and I got it on eBay. Had to buy the battery and charger separately. The cost adds up but the expression on Tony's face was worth it.

The bite is still sore but it's not rred or swollen.

Back pain is bad. Seems it might be a kidney stone so I'm drinking lots of water. Taking pain pills.

Will try to get comfortable with abook and move as little as possible.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Katie, when do you think you will leave??

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Had the biggest, worst, most horrible, mind altering, nerve rattling experience today ..
Was sitting quietly playing Scrabble at the kitchen table, the dogs were in their various areas of the house sleeping and, i noticed a 'twig' on the floor, about 15' from me .. I thought I best pick it up or one of the dogs would track it in further, got up, went about 5' and FROZE .. it was a GIGANTIC SPIDER .. and I am NOT exaggerating!! I literally let out a curdling muffled scream .. I SO did nOT want the dogs to see it .. as it was, they were behind me in awe as well .. I grabbed a broom and killed the spider. it took several blows, and I now need a NEW broom .. but, it's dead ..
I am TERRIFIED of SPIDERS.. I have seen 'dock spiders' and they're grandiose .. but, this puppy was as wide across as my hand, and with LOOooooooooooong legs !!
Now I keep wondering if he had a partner!! OR .. gawd forbid .. eggs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhh life in the country !!!

Katie .. I SO wish I could take a bath .. deep tub, replaced hip .. no go .. no trouble getting in, but a bunch getting out ..
I am going to look for a bar of AVEENO oatmeal soap ..

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, I hate spiders too! Do you know what kind it was?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Uggggg not my favorite!

Bet yur adrenaline is just a going

LindaKay, did you speak with your dad

Ohhh no residence for me this Fternoon

Oh what shall I do with extra tme on my hands (grinning from ear to ear)

mulege, Mexico

You can powder some oatmeal in a blender. Mix it with yougurt and a little honey and apply to the itchy spot. No need to get in a tub or use soap which may dry your skin and add to the itch.

I am refraining from sending a long, whiney post about how much pain I am in and how tired I am of it. Whinergram cancelled. Everybody say thank you.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

You got me laughing Katie

Shaking my head

I can only imagine how tired you are of all of this.

Every bone in my body aches, when speaking with Jeff he said every time he speaks with me m not well...drats on that. Lol so now when he calls I tell him just how fantastic m feeling

Verona, ON

Woo hoo I have internet service back. Have no idea what happened but when you don't have your service boy do you miss it. Had it early yesterday morning but when I got home about 3pm no service. My cleaning lady had been here and she has been known to knock a few wires off. Not only did I have no internet but no landline. After I unplugged and plugged back in several things I got the phone back. Around noon today I decided to unplug and plug back in everything including the splitter into the phone jack. Am thinking I need a new splitter as it took several jiggles and unplugging to get service.

(((Katie))) I know how torn you must be feeling about how to handle Max. What a smoze with your apptment.. Today I had 3 calls from the neuro surgeon's office changing my apptment 3 times. I am NOT happy and I don't have to cope the the long drive like you do Katie.

M I was chuckling to myself about your spider episode. It must be the summer of gigantic insects.. I killed a moth earlier this week that without a word of a lie was the size of a hummingbird. It must have got in when I was letting 1 of the dogs after dark. How are the itchies? Is Gord coming home with fish?

Betty I too ache from head to toe....... all this rainy weather doesn't help people like you and me.

LK sending prayers and positive thoughts for your dad. Great news about dad going back to the NH.

Need to get outside to meet the fellow who is interviewing for the snowplow job this winter Not so sure a new broom will sweep/plow as well as the guy we have had for years.But.....

Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Why do you need new plowman..did the other quit? Drats, sad we have to be thinking wite stuff but it's a coming isn't it.

Heart goes out to you for aches/pains, no fun is it. What do you do to help? Maybe we should move south. Lol. Your furries wouldn't like it though.

Verona, ON

Personally I don't think we need a new plowguy Betty but 1 of the new people on the lane has a personal grudge against the guy and wanted us to entertain bids from others.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'd entertain the bids and throw them out!!! One person should not be able to decide who you use.
Boy am I feisty tonight!!!! LOL

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I agree with Barb ... I think the regular plow guy just wants a bit o lovin ^_^
Needs to know he has been appreciated and doing a good job .. just his funny way of saying it.
Hate to be thinking of the 'white stuff', but, it;s gonna come ...

DH got home around 4:25pm loaded down with STUFF!!!!
Dog toys and treats .. and lotsa other stuff .. Mrs Dash, Pam, Fels Naptha soap, OOOoooooooooooo .. 'some fish' .. just glad to have him back, altho there was so much road construction to go through on the Canadian side ...

Lorna has had her contract extended into October .. the other 2 'doo dahs' have quit .. they were very poor workers .. so .. there is Lorna, Dave and Mason to look after and run a 28 acre cemetery ..

SPIDERS .. the ONLY good spider (to me) is a dead one .. sorry .. and the one that appeared today was beyond horrifying ..
I can kinda 'hack' the smaller ones .. but this baby blew me away ..

Dianne, I have been OFF celebrex since Saturday .. last dose of prednisone today .. ergo .. I am gonna be a hurtin unit in about 24 hours :-(
I think you may have 'slew' a Hummingbird Moth? They are as big as a Hummie, but, not dangerous .. however, how are we to know that?

ENjoy your downtime Betty ..

I am off to put on the special cream ... WOO HOO !!!

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, I'm with feisty Barb and the others, too bad so sad, just because he doesn't like him doesn't mean he has to be replaced..if problems arose last year it's understandable, with continual blizzards day after day one just couldn't keep up. Yep. Throw them away

"M" glad that Gord is home, that alone will make you feel better.
Congrats to Lorna..will she have enough time in for EI? Hope so

Lol so much for downtime

Went downstairs and brought up about 30 quilting books just to leaf through, pop and chips at my bedside, pillows for under my knees, sprayed, took meds then. Snuggled in

Not more than 5 minutes went buy and Greg gave a 'where are you mom?'
What in the world are you doing in bed at this time of night? Wanted me to know he didn't forget he had a mom, just working long hours, says they have so much work they don't know where to turn..every team is out working, he gets five quotes to do and before he can figure them out there are five more to go see..never saw it this busy in all his years working there.

About to say bye, going back to office to do paperwork that he said Melanie as on her way to visit, made it to the door and in came Mel..Greg sad down to chat a bit with us and fell asleep in the chair.

Mel put her name on a set of wine glasses done in pumpkins before leaving. She also showed me a photo of what she has been working on, she took the antique kitchen oak chairs her mom had given her and making them into wall shelf and towel rack..making 5, 4 sibblings will get one for Xmas.

House is quiet now, just snuggled back into bed, let's see how that works out again

LK im so sorry i must have read it wrong ? ok so i m glad he is going to the nursing home. :) still sending love and hugs to you and dad.
i will have to catch up later with everyone.
busy day
Tom is coming over tonight,
Jessica's birthday is tomorrow, we will have a cook out, steaks, corn, and all the fixin's . I will get cheese cake and a white cake. Tom doesn't like chocolate ?? !!! .... i know weird ? !
honestly dont know how to feel about her birthday. This is the third one. ? still a bit surreal i guess. ?

Verona, ON

Well the fellow who came in tonight to interview for plowing seems like a conscientious fellow. It will be interesting to see what his quote will be. The fellow who wants to get rid of our regular guy actually pulled Dave out of his truck and was going to punch him when another neighbour stepped in. Long story behind it all but not worth letting personal grudges get in the way.

M I googled the hummingbird moth and the 1 I smucked was not that. It had all the regular moth colouring = shades of gray.

Oh M I can feel your pain already. I hope I never have to go off my celebrex again. Betty do you take celebrex?

Watching SYTYCD ...... wow these kids are talented.

Sweet dreams everyone.
D

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Katie - glad to hear you're back, and sorry to hear you have to make a trip back. Tony & Marie are sure wonderful friends to have :-)

Sue - sorry you were having troubles with child support, but happy it's settled!!

Marilyn - how's Lorna's prosthetic?

Dianne - you should NOT be told who you can hire.....

I had a call from a friend of mine - she's had to sell her home of 64 years (born in the house the year her parents moved in.......) since she moved her mom to a nursing home. anyway, Marlene has a weaving loom & warp loom (?) that she's willing to give me - and Bob saw it (he says it's beautiful wood)!! She just asks that I do something nice for her in return (she knows I can't afford it at the moment). Gosh, I feel Spoiled!!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Dianne, I wonder if your winged visitor was a sphinx moth. They look a lot like a hummingbird in that they hover and have a long tongue that looks like a hummingbird beak. Ours are mostly gray/brown with beautiful pink underneath in the wings. Here are some pictures:

https://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=ytff1-yff24&p=Sphinx%20moth&type=

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Sue, sending hugs your way, difficult day for you..smile and remember the good days with Jessica. Not feeling, the being surreal is likely what is getting you through it all.

Sue great news about the looms, big craft items though, where will you set them up?

Ohh pat, don't think iveever seen a sphinx moth.

Will sew a bit, sew a bit and get groceries
It being the last long weekend of the year it will be a zoo on the roads
Looking forward to doing nothing this weekend. Greg/Mel and the boys are off camping in the north..Greg is hoping he will not get a call from his staff who are doing major work at Toyota plant and have to go supervise.

Is it a long weekend for you all as well?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!

Yes it is our Labor day holiday here.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Yeppers, LABOUR DAY WEEKEND' .. then THANKSGIVING (Canada) in October .. hoping for clear skies, l know the temps will be cool .. in the high 60s .. and, as far as I hear .. no RAIN (or snow) predicted .. it was only 40F this morning at 6am!!

Dealing with burning eyelids today .. hoping it's the END of it .. but, not sure .. still no celebrex .. can hardly believe I can still move .. if it gets bad enough I'll go back on it .. it truly is a miracle drug for arthritics ..

Am pretty sure Lorna will qualify for EI .. just so unsure how all this works with her being on CPP disability and working .. and, I find there's no one with a definitive answer, she sure doesn't want to have to pay BACK when she sure doesn't make much !!

Would stay and chat, but, I think we might be going into the city with the dogs for a walk .. the construction out this way is just crazy !! No walking them down the quiet country road!!!

Toodles

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

They give with one hand and take back with the other..

Was thinking the same "M" less than 6 weeks to Thansgiving, hard to believe

Beautiful fall day here, trees are already starting to get color

Enjoy your time in the city

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Won't even seem like a holiday here. Sister isn't coming now and as far as I know neither is any one else. This is what I hate the most about being here. I guess it means we've been successful in raising our kids to be independent.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!

"M", have you tried placing a cold cloth or an ice bag on your eyes, or any other place that burns or itches? It might help for a it!

Karen, sorry to hear your family will not be there.

I just talked to my Sis and she said Dad is doing really good at the nursing home. She said he gets tired easily, but that is normal when one looses so much blood like he did!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm OK Linda, just a wee pity party, over it now.
So glad to hear your dad is doing better. Gotta be hard for you to not be there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Karen, we will celebrate together..families are all off dong something exciting..shhh don't tell anyone, I will enjoy my weekend, who knows, might even take a ride to Meaford for something to do if I find I'm bored.

Great news LindaKay..not only losing all that blood but a limb as well..he is an amazing fighter

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am going to go see him in a few weeks, it will only be for a few days, but it will be nice to see him! Probably leaving here on Sept 12th, and coming back on the 16th!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Home again, home again jigetty jag ^_^
Dogs had a great time walking in the park, they're a handful for sure .. getting them out of the car without having them escape is a 2 person chore, and, they listen to DH a lot more than ME LoL
Zoey (our re homer) would not run away, but, Piper, our young male, well .. he'd be hell bent for leather and just a running !! Lilly would play hard to get, and, lets just say we're pretty careful with them ..

Be just spending time in the gardens and the yard this weekend .. starting to bring in the garden, slowly .. potatoes are ready, tomatoes, carrots and some squash .. sweet corn is
S L O W !!!!
I know there's a couple of BBQs to be had, DS is working so he won't be around ..
enough to keep 3 adults and 3 doggies busy ..

LindaK, so nice you'll be going to see your Dad .. you must be so excited :-)
I do use cool face cloths across my eyes, works pretty well, but, because of the prednisone, well, I can't sit still for very long!
But, I'm done with it now, so, we'll see how I make out ..

Outside to enjoy this beautiful 'pre fall' day ..

TOODLES

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

You and he will feel better once you have had time together..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I hadn't made any plans because my sister was coming and that got cancelled so..... Guess I'll just be doing sewing and the usual stuff.

Verona, ON

Hope everyone enjoyed the weather today. We had alternating sunny and cloudy spells all day and it was cooler. Long range mentions rain for Sat. Sure hope not for all those who often go camping this weekend.

Don't worry Susan no 1 person dictates who plows the lane. There are 3 of us on the lane committee. I must say the pressure is off of me now we no longer own the lane. I was hesitant to sell off the last 155a but the private lane went with it so that was a no brainer.

Thanks Pat for the link. Nope that wasn't it. It was just a mammoth moth that got in the house. I live way in the bush so am not surprised to see this mutant. I think the sensor light by the front door attracts several insects. I like to keep it on though so I can see where the coyotes are in the yard.

How far along with your sweater are you Barb? You and Norm have any plans for the weekend?

M I was laughing to myself as you described your worries about the pups when you go somewhere for a walk. Duke is a runner and would end up in Nova Scotia if left to his own devices..Stormy and Quill my last 2 dogs loved to wander also. I think down here they catch a scent, their nose gets twitching and off they tear. Diesel is my goodie 2 shoes. He won't go out of my sight.

Betty I am hoping I can catch up on some sleep this weekend. Big plans, eh? I must remember to get into the village tomorrow for Voltaren. Our Rx store is not open on weekends.

Need to round up something for dinner. Not too hungry or even interested.

Later,
Dianne
