Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Welcome friend old/new

Lyndonville, NY

Sending prayers for you and your Dad Linda Kay.....He has just been through too much.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks everyone. They did not want to insert a catheter and leave it there, as he has a bad urinary track infection, but the Dr. said this afternoon, due to the lasix they are giving him for the fluid on his hart, that they had no choice, so they put one in this afternoon!

"M", you need to listen to the Dr, and stay inside, out of the heat!

Victoria Harbour, ON

It happened in Napa - the wine country section just northeast of San Francisco. My brother lived there for eight years when he was stationed in SF with the Navy. Beautiful country full of beautiful wineries ...What a shame.....

Morning ...
FLipped on CNN only to see another 7.0 earthquake occurred in PERU .. lots south of Calif fer sure, but, a big quake none the less.
One thing I am very scared of, earthquakes .. must be quite the feeling .. out of control ..

Betty, the crows around here are still a bed ... but, once ONE gives a CAW, it seems everyone for miles does the same, then the Blue Jays start.
Had a light and sound show last night, Zoey went under the blankets and Piper on my head, doubtless, if I can talk myself into it, I'll be going back to bed. Supposedly a hot day here 80+F and humid.

Had planned on going into the city today, but, not going to happen, too itchy .. going to give it another day ..

LindaK good to hear they have inserted an indwelling cath for your Dad .. makes life so much easier for him ..
I ASKED for one when I had my hip replaced .. it was removed that evening as they had me up, but, up until that moment, I knew i was OK ...

Best get out and help Lorna out to her truck with her gear .. course, the 'fur brigade' is in tow
^_^

Liz isn't far from San Francisco, she lives in San Mateo..will send her a dmail

Really damp out there, no going out until the sun dries it up..Lordy, I've had paper/boxes/wood in the firepit for months..wind is either up or it's rained..need to roast marshmallows soon.

Imagine the Ex closes Monday, it's then fall for us.

Dianne are you getting fall craft show urge? Do you ever do stained glass anymore just for fun of it?

mulege, Mexico

Good morning everyone, which he may attack if he gets scared.

Tony is here and finishing the van clearing and cleaning as I wait to hear from Kaiser whether I haave to leave on Wednesday or can wait until early next week.

Very hard day yesterday but I'm home and have furbaby company to we can rest a lot. Jenny wants to sleep with me but Max chases her out and I'm not up to dealing with it. He still has agression issues when he sleeps so I have to be careful. He like it whne we both sleep on our sides, back to back. Fine as long as I remember not to reach back to pet him and he doesn't move to my feet and get scared if they move. Jenny and Scout both come in when I get up to say good morning and be reassurred that I'm still here. I was away for almost a month which is a long time - for all of us.

LK, hope your father is doing well. You are all in my prayers.

Having coffee and apain killer. Back later.

hugs, katie

Do any give you the cold shoulder when you return?

Pacifica, CA

morning all,
betty quake was in napa 2 hours north from us.
mil lives up there her place was trashed up lost alot of her statues and figurines were all broken kenny and his sister went up to clean up he showed me pictures sad:(
our room mate felt it but we slept through it.
i honestly thought our area in the peninsula would be where the next one would hit.
but im ready i have everything ancored to walls putty and museum waxed child locks and latches on cabinets ect, after 1989 earthquake i learned my lesson on loosing things.
other than that doing good working alot so not to much time to get on here.

linda kay much prayers for your dad
and to everyone else best wishes for good health and happiness

mulege, Mexico

I think they compete to show who has missed me the most!! Lots of jumping and happy barking - and pushing.

We had rain yesterday with some thunder. Rain is rare, thunder is more rare. When it happens they all join me wherever I am. No barking, hiding, etc, just keeping me company knowing that all of us together is the best way to be sure we are all safe as can be.

Max's fear-based biting is the only behavio problem (except for Twink occasionally urinating on my bedding but that's why we have a washer and lots of bedding) so I consider myself very lucky as these are all rescue babies and Max was a town dog for several years, living on the streets with only a nominal owner. He does make stabs at asserting his dominance over the three girls but mostly he just wants to always be close to me. He doesn't like to be picked up or petted where he can't see the petter's hand but he love to stand next to me when I'm sitting down, putting his front paws on my lap and getting his head and neck petted.

All of them like attention and they are good about sharing. Even food, usually.

I'm very lucky.

IWhile in Ca I got a book about a local dog named Ricochet. There are videos of her on YouTube and its' a good book. Maria has it now and it will make the rounds of our dog-loving group. The book was at Costco and is probably available nation-wide as Ricochet is famous - she surfs, often with disabled children or adults. Very inspiring story.

Still waiting to hear from Kaiser. I upped my pain med dosage an hour ago and am starting to feel better. Tony is vacuuming the van. If I have to leave again Wednesday we will be ready and I' OK to drive as long as I can take my time. There has been some rain here so the drive is more beautiful than usual - lots of green.

All the pain is difficult but I am super grateful that I'm not itching - that is the worst.

Pain killers are kicking in so I'll get to work.

hugs, katie

mulege, Mexico

Talked to someone at Kaiser. They had cancelled the Sept 5 appointment without telling me. I asked to have Friday's appointment cancelled and for them to schedule another appointment for next week. I think this will work. I ranted quite about about their communication problems - no screaming or bad language but I did go on a bit. Anyway, we'll se what they come up with for next week. I am so stressed out and am angry that it is more about their inability to make appointments than about the pre-cancerous condtiion I am dealing with. I think it's inexcusable and said so several times. kb

New appointment for Sept. 5. kb

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Katie, is is hard enough dealing with procedures and outcomes....to mess with appointments on top of it and errors on their part!!! Just not right....and as I said that waiting is enough stress.

Sending hugs your way and we will allllll be with you!!!

Have been enjoying time with Shane. Lots of talking and just enjoying the music. Time will tell.

LindaKay, continued prayers for dad.

Betty, waving hello....let me know when you are coming up and I will do my best to meet you. This Friday move Kyle to college so I will be happy for that.

I am in need of a nap.

Hugs,
Debbie

Itch, Itch, Itch .. this reaction will NOT let go of me ..
I have done absolutely NOTHING today but sit a wish it away ..
Just had a shower, and, while drying off noticed both my eyelids are now red and puffy .. done the Emerg gig, did the walk in .. and i'll be darned if I'll go back and re trace my tracks again.
1 more doses of prednisone, and, happily Dianne, so far I am ok without the celebrex .. but, that will soon change I'm betting ..

Well over 90F here, AND, there's construction going on on the main road that runs in front of the house . .. well .. it's about 600' away .. the machines are ditching and banging and creaking and grinding and the 3 dogs are SPUN !!!
AND, we have BIG wind, in fact, I'm thinking we'll be losing some trees out back, it's from the south (rare) and, about 35-50mph with gusts to 60mph.

Katie, glad the puppers miss ya .. but know how you feel about changed appts, between Lorna, Gord and myself, the whole face of September has changed with ONE phonecall to rebook eye appts as the optician is going out of town .. that meant a shuffle in other appts as well ..

Linda K Good to hear your Dad has picked up, the lasix must be doing the trick ...

Debbie glad you're enjoying Shane's company, hope you got that nap ..

Liz, sorry to hear about your MiL .. just learned we have friends who were visiting in Nappa at a resort, their OK and were moved out.

Best go and get some MORE itch cream .. very disappointed with the benadryl caps .. do nothing for me ..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all, just got back from the residence, mom was up to dong her own wash but I did bring home her dark slacks and new jeans she biught, said they are a bit long ..if I wash then we can decide how much to shorten.

Tmorrow's meet up with Sharon to get mom's pills..thought mom might be upset tonight learning that Bryan is moving mid October but then she has been hearing for years as to his moving..I personally will believe it wheni see it.

Debbie, don't think you answered, is Shane home for good or just a vacation..sure hope it's for good...and yes will let you know wheni go stateside..Rita and I were talking about it this at..both need to make purchases at Joann's

Liz, so glad to see you post, sorry to hear about Kenny's mom's place, at least no casualties.
Must be so worrysome wondering when it will be your neighborhood that gets hit..that is worse than tornadoes, at least with tornadoes you have the weatherman predicting what is to come.what have both you and Kenny been up to?

Lordy Katie, with them knowing how far you have to travel you would think they would get appointments right wouldn't you? At least Sept 5th gives you a week to Recoup

"M" already epwarnings about heat and humidex for tomorrow..think is hall close my windows/doors and turnon a/c as to get head start on it. Was hotter in yur neck of the woods today than mine.

Sitting here watching White House down, seen it a few times..can virtually feel my eyes getting heavier and heavier. Ll. might be an early bedtime

Warning for anyone on Facebook!

If anyone gets a private message from anyone that says they work for Facebook, and that you have won the lottery, don't believe it. Delete that person immediately, and report them! It is a SCAM!!!
I got a private message from a Mary Collins, and she said she worked for Facebook. Then she said I won part of a Facebook lottery with 20 other persons. I told her there is no such thing, and that I would report her, which I did! PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THIS!

mulege, Mexico

Most Kaiser people don't know how far I travel as living where I do is a gray area in terms of coverage. Used to be it wasn't allowed; now it's allowed - sort of. My doctor and I refer to it as "going south" and avoid making an issue of it. But the messed appointments are ridiculous regardless. I think my best way of helping them to shape up is to rant and rave at length about my frustration. This is to discourage them from telling themselves that inconveniencing me is not a big deal. If I don't complain, they figure it's not a big deal. So I complain long and loud and repetitively and whiney and whatever else I can do to give them a long, unpleasant reminder of what happens when they mess up. It's a procedure which I highly recommend. You get to let off steam and it may improve their performance.

I'm still having a lot of back pain and there's no infection so my doctor has ordered a CT scan. I'm hoping i can have it done early on the Friday that I see the breast surgery person.

We're getting a smattering of rain. There's a hurricane off the west coast of The Baja so we are doing a weather watch. Mostly it seems to be messing up my TV reception.

Cooking a big chicken and rice dinner for the dogs.

hugs, katie

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good morning ..
Katie, I've tried the 'whiney, mopey' here in Canada, they usually hang up on me :-(
So far in 2 says I have has three appts changed betwenn Dh, myse;f and Lorna .. and what a shamaz it makes ..
Hope the hurricane stays off shore ..
We have gone from the high ninties back into the low 70s.

Plan to get my butt into town early to get stuff done and home .. the construction out front is SO NOISY and the dogs are extremely nervous .. I'd take them, but, then I'd be seriously nervous about one of them escaping on me ..
Hopefully DH will be home tomorrow ..

Thoughts and prayers for those in need ..

How are you doing with the rash today "M"? Is it getting any better?
Get some rest while you can Katie. Sept is almost here.
My brother lived for several years in Napa Calif. and I got to visit him there and tour the wineries. It is so sad to see all the destruction. Those buildings were so beautiful. And all that wine!!!!!
I'm just grateful no one was seriously hurt since it happened in the middle of the night.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Thanks for the warning LndaKay..Facebook is a place a rarely if ever go.

"M" you sent us the heat, heat warning issued for our region today with storms
Hottest day since early June..hear some rumbling going on

Meeting up with Sharon today, says she is busy and cannot drive up to Midland to bring mom her pills. Big sigh

Katie sure hope the bad weather moves right on past you, you sure don't need to contend with a hurricane

Barb, was listening to the news, big newscast on Napa Velley, say its not in a state of emergency, all tourism activities still taking place

And

Official that burger king purchase of Tim Hortons now a go

mulege, Mexico

Darn, just what i needed. the worst bite ever from Max. He got the pad at the base of the little finger of my right hand. Oh it hurts. It was about 3am and I was sound asleep. don't know how it happened but he got me good. luckily(!!) i have callouses or it would be worse but it sure hurts. he gets scared and attacks. then he's over it and would not understand if i punished him. my hand is bandaged and wrapped. i think it will heal fairly easily but right now it hurts. thank God for pain killers.

forgot to say that although I will complain long and loud about problems I also give lots of compliments and gifts when well taken care of. the ER people were surprised when I brought them a bouquet of flowers a few days after I'd been seen there. I often take my doctor books (usually from Goodwill but something I think he'll enjoy) and last visit he and his staff got two bouquets - one for registration people. I told the woman I gave the registration bouquet to "it's a circle." Having worked in a service job I know how much a small gift can mean.

Tony got the van cleared out and cleaned up. it really looks good and I now have a few days to plan what to take with me next week.

Need another pain killer. its' hot and humid here but the hurricane is still way offshore.

hugs, katie

getting this child support is a PITA. Last payment on aug 7 that was for the july payment. Nothing for august yet . he works, gets paid, but i don't ! ,
maybe i should have stayed married :(
other then that , things are good.
tried to dig up some forsythia.... didn't go well. still have 3 more in the ground. ITs like digging up a giant oak tree ! yikes
i may be working at the apple orchard again this year ,,,, every year i say " not next year " every year i say yes.
I could use the extra money.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Taynor, I'm sorry the child support is late and erratic. No fun at all but I'm sure it is better than the marriage or you never would have divorced! That is one of the things I was grateful for, my Ex made a much better Ex than he ever made husband. His checks were never late.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about the bite on your hand Katie, sure hope it heals quickly.

Sue, sorry to hear child support is a pain in the behind. It can take months for it to work through the system. When my neighbor got her divorce, it took 6 months for her to get her first check, after that it went smoothly.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

The child support thing can go both ways. My son was always on time paying his. He set up a special account here as ex moved to TN with the kids. He sent her a card and made the deposit at noon, all she had to do was walk 200 feet to the ATM and get the support money. Then she decided she wanted the state to handle it. It was so screwed up for so long that he was prevented from making a trip to France with his wife & her family. His passport was held up because he was "behind in support payments". Actually once it got straightened out, he was ahead but it took months. In addition he bought almost all the kids clothes and school supplies, plus sent them money for any extra activities they had going on. It was us who drove both ways to get them to MI for holidays and summer. Don't get me wrong we have a great relationship with his ex even though the kids are now grown, we do have grands and greats to share. But it isn't always the dad who is in the wrong. My son was treated shamefully as a dead-beat dad when it couldn't have been further from the truth.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Taynor, if you have to go back to court, see if the judge can have his employer pay you directly. That is how mine worked from the start. Every week my ex's employer would withhold his child support payment and pay me directly. I was never even asked if this is how I wanted it done, I guess my lawyer must have worked it out, but it was great for me.

Deb

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If child support is going through the courts, they usually take payment from his paycheck, then it goes into the State system. That is where it can and does get messed up!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My son's big mess up seemed to be because it was between two states. His employer had to send to MI and MI had to send to TN and TN to his Ex. TN was the one had it messed up.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, the whole child support then is not a gender specific issue. And, like you pointed out Karen, it's not even the parents that are to blame sometimes! I do understand why some people (either parent) want it to go thru the courts. There is PROOF that it was paid and in some situations that is very necessary.

I don't know about child support but with garnishments, some employers will fire the worker rather than put up with it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh no Katie, know it isn't intentional, just a reflex but one of these days there my be nerve damage..so hope it heals quickly. Bet you are not looking forwrd to that long drive so soon, wish someone was going along with you..

Do hear horror stories abut child support.

Sue, here is hoping you start getting it on a more regular monthly basis...surely he wouldn't play games

Off to meet up with Sharon

the trouble is you don't get a choice ! . He pays my alimony directly to me, so why can't he do that with child support ? Judge doesn't give you a choice. stupid ! Tim and i would be fine if we did it our way and not the courts way.
yes its taken out of his pay checks every week. But i have yet to see any ?
takes the system forever to get it worked out. uhg.
we are not starving, all bills are pd , but for how long ? is my question
had a good work out at the gym
ate a salad
may take a nap LOL
i took the job at the apple orchard again. Keeps me out of trouble. LOL get some extra cash too. Although don't know about my taxes how that will work.

glory glory , guess who got child support ! .... relief :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dong the happy dance Sue

That a girl, set that extra you will make at the apple orchard for xmas

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good to hear things worked out for you Sue ..I have worked with women going through the ups and downs of child support and divorce settlement stuff .. none too glamorous AND, so stressfull.

Katie, do you not worry the dog might sink his teeth into your neck by mistake ... jeepers, I wouldn't be able to sleep .. sure hope your paw gets better fast ..

I am about ready to crawl the walls here .. the itch and rash are so bad.
went to town and could hardly concentrate on the driving .. If this is an allergy to quinine, I pray for anyone else who has the misfortune ..

Fall like day .. noisy roadwork persists out front, but, not as bad as yesterday
Dogs are still loaded for bear every time a big gravel truck blows by ..

UGggggggggggg .. gotta go and scratch

Friends daughter out west was breast feeding her baby, dozed off, baby died, now at police station being questioned. Drats

mulege, Mexico

When Max bites, it is because a hand or foot has touched him and he reacts defensively. He doesn't instigate an attack. I have learned not to disturb him but last night I was deeply asleep and startled him. He likes to sleep back to back with me and it seems to keep him feeling safe and I think he's more socialized than if I forced him to stay isolated at night. I just need to train myself better!!

It's another hot and humid day. I got some ideas clarified on where to go in working on the house. Went over my thoughts with Tony and he thinks it will work. There's a lot of one step forward and two back in this process. There's ongoing maintenance and repair, then improvements as we have the time and money. We are both comfortable with the process which keeps stress to a minimum.

I had promised Tony a present he's really like and today I gave it to him: A powerful battery-operated fan. Our long, hot, humid summers are marked by regular electrical blackouts which can last for hours. The hardest thing to do without is a fan. I found a less powerful battery operated fan for his children and the really strong one for Tony and Fely. If you have ever tried to sleep when the temp is in the 90's and there's no fan you'll know why he agreed this was a great gift. (I also got one for myself.)

I'm still worn out from the trip (and the bite) so I'm going to rest and read a while.

Glad the support came through. Shortness of money is the worst. I think that one of the best things that I'm able to do for Tony is to have him know that I am able to provide financial backup if tings get difficult. He is careful not to take advantage so I never hesitate if he asks for help. And I love being able to give a gift like the fans. They are not available here even if he could afford them. I love playing Santa.

hugs, katie

mulege, Mexico

Cross-posted. Oh, how awful for your friend and her daughter.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't know about other states but in MI all children of divorce are considered wards of the court until age 18. I'm thinking that's why child support has to go through the courts here.
