Ernie, recognized the names and oh would so love to use them (read: have son use his) but alas I am dealing with a Homeowner's Association that is just just plain dumb about trees. Had previous owners (original ones) been allowed to do some selective thinning, I would not have to deal with all the mess I do...not to mention thin out the shaded areas. No, I don't just sit back and take their words about cutting trees.....I figure it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission some times. :-)

Well Marion, do a bit of nipping her and a limb off there, eventually you have a tree either gone or nearly so so it needs to be removed. One thing I would never ever do is live where there is a homeowners ass. I think they are like unions had their use at one time but now just try to regulate too much of your life.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I like Karen's idea about snipping here and there on trees. My neighbor has this beautiful bush growing in the corner of fence where I see it from my kitchen window and I saw her out there with the clippers. She said she just was doing some trimming. The humming birds and butterflies love it Maybe that is why they don't come to my feeder very often. I just had to remind them I did put out a fresh feeder full of nectar. Still hot here and Sept. can also be a very hot month. I really hope we get a wet winter this year.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Samigal Humming birds tend to stay at the first feeder they use in the spring. As long as you don't let the feeder go empty they generally stay home.

5 Momma hummer sitting on nest outside our sliding doors. We enjoyed two hatches a year for two years but on the third year she moved her nest to a hanging basket on the otherside of the door. Andy the hunter jumped up and caught her he ate her the brat. We have never had another since.

Love the pictures, Ernie! Andy looks so totally innocent! Haha!

Congrats, LK! Maybe you should play the lottery and take us all on a cruise!!

Had fun with cookie today...
got a gift for my friend who's mom passed away aug 3.
Had a wonderful weekend. spent most of it with Tom and the kids. Went and we saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie . it was cute. Even Tom laughed at some parts. Not as dumb as we thought it would be.
Tim got a new car..... a jeep wrangler..... could he get anything practical , safe and responsible for a vehicle... ???? really ? ! .... no i guess not.
eweed i remember you from other area's of DG. Might have been the canning threads ? or veggie garden threads ?
welcome :)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Goodness gracious, you're truly everysense a gardener Ernie! You grow hummers too, besides goldies!!
Thanks for making me want to go out there and start some sweet peas, Linda! Err... that's Pegi's category.
Love those pictures, and that eagle. Is it a resident too?
Proud to say that we do have birds of prey that roost high above our pine trees, Ernie. Vultures, sir! And congrats on hardly needing any insulin.
My A1C is around 6, it's due to Lantus and Humalog as the pancreas hardly's producing.

Poor Marion. I've never lived anywhere that's regulated by HOA. So I'm thankful living in a place with no watchdogs.

Perhaps if you tried what Karen suggests, a nip now and then, soon you won't be missing a whole tree!! Lol!

So you have another big kid eh Sue? Good that Tom doesn't mind watching cartoons.
Maybe one of my sistahs could move to NC so I can have a girls' night like you and Cookie!

I haven't been lucky with Hummers Pegi, guess I have too many cats. The constant birds that aren't afraid to visit this garden are the mockingbirds. Boy do they let you know that they're there!

Got a question. Is it wrong for me to demand that Kel quit talking on his cell phone while he's driving? He said that I had embarrassed him.
This man had been told over and over not to text nor use the cell phone if I am in the vehicle.
He never listen to my pleas, until I blew up. He'd behave but not for long.
Once I screamed for him to turn off the phone, and he told the person on the other end that I'm crazy?
Today, he did it again, after I held my tongue for too long. So he got what he deserve and I'll do it again until he stops.
How soon has he forgotten that his friend's fiancee was killed while she's on her cell.
Kel says I was harassing him unnecessarily as he's a careful driver, but my life may not mean anything to him, but it is to me still!

Okay.. what else can I tell that man to discontinue this thoughtless practice. I told him that his friends would understand if he chose to ignore the calls when he's on the road. I can scream blue in my face, he will start promising not to repeat.. and then a few days later... it starts again. What else can I do?

Here's the encrusted pork loin with bread crumbs, Turned out good even without the parmesan cheese.

Ernie, I love the dog pictures, and your gardening is awesome!

Jaye, anyone here caught talking or texting while driving gets a big fine. Texas passed a law about a year ago, and most cities have adopted it. That pork roast looks good!

Sue, glad to hear you had a nice time with Tom!

We buy lottery tickets all thee time, and the most we ever win is maybe $12.00.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

You get a fine here if talking on cell phone while driving too. I just wish there were more cops around when I see someone talking as their vehicle starts drifting over the line. Walking down the side walk while texting is another pet peeve. They don't watch where they are walking and bump into you.

Ernie, I love all your photos, the one of Linda picking sweet peas I love. I plant sweet peas but never get such an abundance of them Does she have them climbing up a trellis? We plant them around the middle of Sept. here. So soon it will be time for me to get out there and pull out weeds and get my soil ready. Have to fine some other colors too.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

There's a hefty fine for texting only in NC. Kel thinks he's lucky. His job depends on a clean record, and I will have to keep reminding him like a broken record player.

Haven't got to that yet, around here Pegi. That's dangerous, not paying attention when jaywalking.

Thanks LK. Got plenty left for sandwiches tomorrow with tomatoes and cilantro.

Nice onions there Ernie. I had grown golden raspberries. Didn't return the next year. Cherry tree didn't make it.
Soon it will be that time for soups. Better try to find me some crates of tomatoes and start canning! We have one farmer's market across the border, but all the tomatoes come from Mexico.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning everyone. Coffee is ready ...DD of course...bagels with cream cheese, apricot jelly or toast.

Busy day today so I am off and running...............

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

good morning, no Jaye Idon't think ypour wrong for not wanting to talk on the phone while he drives. I tell M ichael the same thing, either don't answer or pull over, and he don't answer unless I AM WITH HIM THEN HE HAS ME ANSWER.Sorry bout the caps

Ernie, what a beautiful garden you have. I am getting ready to till mine under, put lime in it, and get it readyn for fall planting. You make me have garden envy

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

morning Linda K. How was your weekend?
Pass the coffee if'n you don't mind

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Week end was busy, I took the boys back home yesterday. Nice and quiet now!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Mine was laid back for a change . went fishing saturday nite and sunday night. Went to Clanton Saturday to buy peaches. I got A BUSHEL, BUT IF'N i DON'T STOP EATING THEM i WON'T HAVE ANY FOR JAM, OR TO CAN! lol {sorry bout the caps}

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Did you catch any fish? Fresh peaches sound yummy!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Peaches do sound yummy! Want to swap sweet corn for peach jam??

I've been a busy girl today. Bill picked 87 ears of corn (well, I picked about 10) and I got 31 bags with 1 1/2 cups of corn in each. That's it for today. Bill says he has only picked and shucked about 1/3 of the corn so far. Guess I'll have another couple days of this at least. It sure will be yummy this winter though!

I feel like I've put a whole day of work in and it's only 12:30!

I've had my coffee for the day, but if anyone has some tuna salad, I'll be happy to take it off your hands so I can have a fresh mater from the garden with it! Geez, now I have to go make tuna salad cause I've made my mouth water!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oops! Forgot to send the picture!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a lot of corn!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I envy you that corn Joyce! Kathy, it is really hard not to eat fresh peaches especially those you buy at Clanton. Miss getting mine since we don't make trips to Jasper, AL any more.

Joyce, I have some tuna salad in the fridge but mine is rather of beat. I put dill pickle relish and yogurt/mayo in mine....learned to have it like that when I was in Palestine with Ross during his job there. Been many years since but still like to make mine that way. Serve it on pita bread with 'maters!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm betting I would like your tuna salad Marion.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I would love it, Marion! I'll bring the corn! I put dill pickles, olives sweet relish and sweet pickles in mine. Sweet and sour tuna salad!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

yes, i caught 3 nice catfish, and a beautiful bass. Then something had me, he bent my pole over, then broke my line. I sure was mad. Sissy, you can send some corn my way.
well, off to the kitchen to make a peach cobbler for desert, and Michaels lunch.
Strange having him home every nite, I'm not use to cooking

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Fresh fish sounds good. I love them cooked on the grilled, fried in a skillet...

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

gonna have a fish fry

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yum!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Marion, I use greek yogurt, dill and cubed cucumbers with my tuna. Won't have it any other way/

Today, I am sitting in a corner, surrounded by books, cds and dvds. ALL his.
Did get up for food, fish stew, and yes, meds for the cats. Took a Xanax, this morning, calmed my heart some, and planning to take another one soon.

Sis Kathy and others, Kel will not let me touch his phone. Another chest hurting fight this morning, as he truly believes I'm exaggerating. IT takes a few seconds for an accident to happen. If I can drive, or a cab service here, watch me take off without him.
He's right now at MyrtleBeach picking up supplies, and it's only my calls that he ignored. I called thirty times, and refused to leave messages as I know he's busy with other calls.
When he finally returned my call, his excuse was he had to pull over to answer. Yah right, a stretch of thirty mile highway and can't pull over for a second.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Jaye just tell the old mule that you are upping his life insurance so you can live in the style to which you would like to become accustomed.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Joycet I am a canner at heart but the lady I have lived with for 48 years wants no part of canning ,dehydrating, or freezing much. May I inquire as to how long you blanch your corn for. I have a lot of nice supersweet bicolor corn. I have never frozen it before but am considering it as an alternative to canning this year.

Karen I am all for salmon salad not so much Tuna

LK peaches and fish both sound yummy to me.

Wow guess what girls I am not as good a gardener as you make me out to be. There are some awful weed patches out there. But thanks for the praises for my efforts. We built this house 42 years ago and have been remodeling the yard every five years or so. We just about have it to the point where we can't add anything.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Karen, great idea!! 100.000 isn't enough for sure. Tomorrow, I'll sign up for an increment.

Ernie, one year I had frozen some whole ears of corn. Shucked and cut them in halves, and 'freeze' dried them first.
I did the same way with green beans, much easier to remove whatever amt. you need.

Jaye sorry to hear Kel is being difficult and selfish. Have you ever seen the movie Something To Talk About., it has Julia Roberts in it. There is a scene that i truly admire in it. Perhaps you should watch the movie with Kel. ? maybe he may get the hint :)
nice haul of corn there cookie. I sure did enjoy ours. That you gave me.
kids start school on thursday. I have to drive them . The bus comes at 6;20 am ! and i m not getting up at 5 am to start my day.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning everone. Coffee is ready with peach cobbler

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Me, me, me!! I want some coffee and peach cobbler.

All this talk about freezing and canning makes me really miss the efforts of my late in laws. Ross and I used to spend time during the summer visiting with them (Jasper, AL) and help harvest and can things. I have canned tomatoes but that is about the extent of my experience.

Sue, don't blame you not wanting to get up at 5 am. Kim gets up then but she is quiet so I can get my "beauty sleep". Sometimes I might wake up then but it isn't very often.....lazy lady that I am.

Jaye, do I need to come give that man of yours a well placed kick in a certain area of the anatomy? Why do some men think they are immune to thing happening to them? On offense meant Ernie. Yeap, up the insurance as Karen suggested.

Off to refill the coffee cup, will chat later................................

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey, Ernie! I blanch my corn for 3 minutes. Just as a matter of record, that's how long I cook it to eat it fresh, too!

Just picked 14 ears to share with friends. I'd send you some Sissy, but I don't think it would be very good by the time it got there!

Got to go! Garden club today.

Did I tell you Bill got his surgery dates! September 2nd for the filter and September 4th for the kidney stone removal. Keep us in your prayers.

got my java and boy your not the only lazy lady here Marion.
