Best/Worse/What did I learn today!chat with friends old/new

Lyndonville, NY

We have had rain the last two hours.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You can send it my way Debbie, grass/gardens need it. It is still unsure what it wants to do

Have you been keeping yourself busy?

Did miss going state side this past weekend, am sure I'll survive not going

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Dark and stormy here! Under a severe thunderstorm alert until 10 pm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Those storms must worry you Marion..
Are you feeling like you finally are home to stay?

Know it's early but think I will get comfy in bed

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Rain didn't stay away, dang it! But I did get many plants in the ground and one transplanted before it ran me in. Then late this afternoon I got to clean two beds.

Betty, I WISH I was at that point! Makes me sick to think how much I have to go till the 17th. Just keep your fingers crossed that I get it done!

I actually had to put a sweater on today. It was 63* this afternoon! Certainly not a usual Spring here.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Chilly here too and in fact will be all week. I don't mind but feel bad for the greats who are visiting.

Victoria Harbour, ON

No sooner posted, took meds, cuddled in for the night and knock, knock
Kyle came to visit. He just left and now I'm wide awake.

The 17th Joyce, is that a garden tour or pond photo's?

Real change in the weather isn't it, not sure what this weeks weather is to be, must check

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

My day time garden club is coming to see the garden for the first time. Then we're going to have lunch. It's a carry-in and I'm going to fix beef brisket. Gosh, brisket is so expensive now! $6.00 a pound.

The long term forecast for that Tuesday is a high of 87* with thunderstorms expected from 10 to 12. What time are the ladies coming, you ask? 10 of course. But it's a possibility that it will change before then. I'm praying for that, for sure!

Baton Rouge, LA

Joyce - it will be lovely... no worries....

Betty love that Kyle drops in to see you... special hugs

very interesting about crows... I am finding a special personality in everything garden now. I think Dragon flys know to come after me now... LOL
Thanks Marilyn - your lips to Gods ears as they say.... I am sure I knew these bumps would be in the road but was hoping they would not exist...
Not family to help out but MY Family budget is what I meant. I just hate sharing family savings to save the business was hoping it would hold it's own by now however that may be very unreasonable.

Betty still owe you a pic of the beautiful yellow flowers you have blessed me with.

a customer brought some orange crocosmia by... I have some but mine won't bloom... may have to move into sun. but the blooms are beautiful in the shop.

I tried to water today a bit. Potted up some butterfly bush and pink hibiscus mallow for an employee.... I went up to shop and it was slow.

Hollywood is making it hard to keep employees now Louisiana is the new Hollywood and so many movies being shot here and the employees are wanting to be extras which are day to day with scheduling ....and pay okay.

Hugs
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hang in there Mary. You will have slow days but hopefully not too many! It can take several years for your's or any business to get going good!

Victoria Harbour, ON

MornIng,

Rain missed us last night, sunshine today!
Took a walk in the gardens, just me and a zillion skitters...few flowers in bloom, took a few photo's..will post after breakfast.

Joyce, you know the weathermen liars, you will have sunshine I'm sure! Haven't bought brisket in decades, does sound expensive. Seems meat is at an all time high here so often I go early Saturday morning to Foodland and they've just market a lot of the weeks meat 50% off, not beyond it's expiration date and when frozen doesn't matter.

Mary, it pleases me that you have yellow flowers in your garden that brings Canadian sunshine.im with the others, getting a new business off the ground is difficult and a long road of good/bad days. Thankfully you are working and maybe Lance for a bit might have to return to work just to get over growing pains.

Isn't that interesting about Louisianna becoming the new Hollywood. Love the new NCIS series and will watch faithfully so I can see some of New Orleans. Lol

Need to get some dg addresses so I can post swap items that I didn't get to do in Buffalo, did miss going but feel better for it

Pressure this mornimg is still a bit up. 176/79/68. Dr's appt this afternoon

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning ..
A cool 47F here, and up and at'em to get Lorna off to work and feed the Blue Jays and Crows/Ravens who start squwaking for peanuts at about 5:30am .. noisy !!!

Lorna watches the Crows at the cemetery .. they will watch someone bring fresh flowers to a grave side .. put them in a vase, and, ADD the powdery mixture that comes along with the flowers they purchased, that packet is MOSTLY sugar .. once the people leave, Lorna says it takes the Crows about 5 minutes to come down, REMOVE the flowers one by one, and, DRINK the sugar water !!!
Now if that ain't THINKIN, I don't know what is !

nice Kyle came to visit Betty, any news re Noah ?

Mary, don't get too distressed re the shop .. I just know it'll do well .. time is the keeper ..

Have a luncheon to go to at noon, buncha nurses I used to work with .. always 'cackly' ... LoL

Joyce good luck with the luncheon .. hope you have NO rain, and, tender Brisket .. the price of beef, and pork, has risen sharply here too !!!

Off n runnin

Have a super day everyone

Betty, these storms are typical of Florida summers. Yes, I do worry because of the number of trees on my lot but other than that.....I just usually curl up with a good book and my kitty.

Happy Birthday Karen. My youngest is celebrating his birthday today also. ...can't believe he is 50!!.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thank you, My baby turned 49 this year, oldest is 53. Oh Me!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Happy Birthday Karen..anything special on this your special day?
Remember when we were fretting turning 50 and now we have children almost 50..yuk/yuk

Great Marion that the storms are second nature to you and you don't fret. what will Kim be doing all summer, no summer school?

Thanks LindaKay for the link, love that swap

Not a lot of color but it's coming

I am enjoying feeling like in the back bush with all the greenery.

Bridal Wreath at the back of the pond in photo 2 is in full bloom, ones in the sun just about to bloom

Hosta's are growing so large and this after dividing them earlier this spring
In photo 5 you can see Joyce how big my goat's beard got, already higher than the chair..by end of week likely have some blooms

I was at the nursery last week, asked if now that 3 years or so has gone by since I've tried lillies if I might be lucky in trying again..she said we are so infested that no, no lillies for me

Suzanne's daughter's wedding is Friday, lots of family coming up from the city..was thinking perhaps I could open my camper and bedrooms and be able to sleep 4 or 5 couples

we'll see

Betty, I am glad you talked about your headache and Blood pressure. . I was in a car accident the 10th. of last month. Hurt my right arm . Started having headaches that would come & go. The Doctor put a shot of cortisone in my neck. He put me on the same BP meds. as you take.
Several weeks later I got a headache from HE!! BP went up to 201-87 It has been comming down. This morning it is 188-77

I guess I am old as dirt. My oldest daughter turned 61 in Feb.
I check this and the coffee thread out every morning. So enjoy reading them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, we are running about the same with our readings..those headaches are pure h&$£ aren't they. Sorry to hear you were in an accident. Between whiplash and high blood pressure it must be unbearable..you are resting right? I did learn with the urging of these ladies to rest, they shook their fingers and I thought I'd best do what they said.

Don't be a stranger, when catching up in the mornimg just drop in, always lots of coffee and a sweet waiting for you.

Mary, just booked swamp tour again, gabbed with the girls, they are willing to forgo sleep to put more nto our roadtrip. Lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about your accident Liz Sure hoe your headache gets better soon!

Betty, which picture is the Bridal Wreath? I don't know what it looks like? You gardens are so beautiful!
Betty, when do you see your Dr.?

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Wah! I want to grow Lupines! I just can't. They hate me.

I'm pretty sure Betty said this afternoon for her Dr. appt.

Liz, always nice to see you pop in. Don't be a stranger, and take care of yourself with that high BP!

Had to stop weeding for a minute. Had a pop up shower. Over now, so back to work!!

DGD sent me a birthday pic of two of our little princesses. Sweet Caroline and Noelle.

Happy Birthday, Karen.

Yesterday I was thinking that if I didn't get to see Amma in LA I might be able to go to Santa Fe, the next stop on her world tour, and spend a few days with her there. When I woke up this morning I was in so much pain that I could hardly move. So I surrendered. Not this tour. Maybe I can see her in November in San RAmon.

After a couple of pain killers and some more surrendering I feel better. I called the man who has my mail service in Chula Vista to tell him I will be there soon. A lot of packages have been getting there for me and his space is not very large. He assurred me that it's no problem. So we're back to plodding through all the Mexican stuff so I can drive legally and safely.

Maria is coming over later to help me hook up my printer so I clearred and cleaned my computer desk.

It is hot and humid here. but I'm getting some cleaning done.

I do feel better since accepting that I'm not going to see Amma this month. Disappointed but not stressed. I will still go to Ca. soon to see my doctor and pick up my packages.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Home I is

Doc took my blood pressure 172 so he said lets chat and relax so gab we did..talked about roger, he said in the last 22 years since his death he's never encountered or heard of someone with same cancer..I started to laugh and asked if this talk was suppose to relax me. Lol

Took it again and still in 170,s..doubled the meds, said this new blood pressure med that he gave me the other day was far better so we shall see.

Joyce, am surprised all my luppins are purple, would like multi colored, that being said think some in back gardens as coral. I will save you some seed.

Karen your grandaughter are little princesses..to adorable for words..you are one lucky lady!

Katie its the leading up to making the decision or accepting decision made that is hard, now that you know you can't go maybe some of the stress will subside but you need to see the doctor..with having your permit I thought the easier part would be insuring the vehicle.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Your DGDs are adorable!

Betty, you can save me seed, but they still won't grow here. Most nurseries don't even sell it. We just don't have the right conditions for it!

Making major headway on the garden. One little shower drove me in for a few minutes, but otherwise I've been out all day working. Just stopped to have a bite of supper. Almost finished, then back to it!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

You just never know Joyce, might get some good old Canadian seed that will catch..look at Mary, she has some of my yellow coreopsis growing, at least I think that is what is growing.
You better get Bill to put construction lights out so you can work a midnight shift. Lol

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I've been thinking I need one of those lights you wear on you head! 😋

Victoria Harbour, ON

Minors helmet..no think construction lighting would cover more work ground

Katie, is this the Amma you speak of? Sorry if I'm wrong ..

Karen, OMG, those 2 little ones are way TOO precious .. treasures to be sure !!

Betty .. your BP is still high, do so hope the increase in meds helps you ..

Joyce, came home from my nursey luncheon and was GONNA go into the gardens but decided to have a glass of wine and watch the unusual influx of Swallowtail (yellow) butterflies that have EXPLODED into the yard. Trying to count butterflies is not easy, but, give or take we counted over 40 ! Just beautiful, and, sadly .. not easy to take pics !

Yes,that's my Amma. More about her at www.amma.org. I first met her about 25 years ago, on her second trip to the US. I've seen her once or twice a year since with a couple of exceptions. When I'm not meant to see her, I just have to accept it. When I could hardly move this morning when I woke up I had to accept that this is one of those times.

Tony should have all the paperwork tomorrow and then I can call and get insurance for both here and the US.

Maria came over and hooked up my printer for me.

I goot some housecleaning done. Still sore but I perservere.

hugs, katie

Verona, ON

Happy Birthday Karen. Your DGDs are adorable.

Joyce I have 1of those lights and I swear by it.I use it when I walk the pups after dark - gives me a free hand and mine really lights up the area in front of me.

Betty you can call me honey or sweetie anytime - I just don't think someone I have hired to work for me and I have known all of 10 min should be calling me that. He was back again this afternoon and is a hard worker when he finally gets to the task. I have been warned though he has been known to be light fingered and has lost some jobs because of it. I don't let him in the house and my faithful boy Diesel doesn't leave my side so I am not worried about that. I will lock my 2 sheds though - something I have never done. He keeps asking me if I live here alone and do I ever go away for a holiday. I've told him bluntly to mind his own business. I need a Katie's Tony!!

The pups were beside themselves this morning - a snapping turtle wandered up to lay her eggs. This is a new to our place turtle so I still have a few more to expect. The snappers have a terrible time deciding exactly where they want to lay their eggs. They can dig several holes before they decide they have the 'just right' spot. Sort of like the 3 Bears, Betty the length of time before the eggs hatch varies. In fact if when they decide to hatch and the temp in their hole is warmer than the temp outside they will overwinter in the hole and wait until spring to emerge.I was shocked when I saw my first spring hatched turtles. I have been known to gather them up and walk them down to the creek just to give them a good start. Poor little guys have so much going against them if they manage to escape the raccoons raiding their nest.

Mary I so understand your concerns about 'borrowing' from yourselves. It hasn't been a year yet since you opened, right? It takes awhile for a new business to run in the black. Word of mouth is your best advertising and it sounds like you have some loyal customers. Once word gets around that will help. Have you taken samples to the front desk of some area hotels/motels.? Nothing like a free sample to loosen the tongues of the staff in such places.

My lupines survived the winter. They are sprouting up everywhere. I love them.... the colours are so cheerful. I am getting some good black earth tomorrow and will use that to top up some areas in the gardens.

Betty you keep resting!
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Dianne - you are so right... We need grassroots marketing.... I had intended to do that once we opened but with everything else going on.....and business improving ever since 11/25 our first day didn't foresee any hiccups.....
Yours is a super idea and today I had an idea of sending a gift certificate to local daycares as well... they decide where the children go on excursions.....will move forward on those asap.
I LOVE lupines but I don't think we have the weather for them here.... they die off before our sweltering summers...
Betty's yellow flowers have been a bright spot in my normally flowering yard which is still shocked from our horrible winter.... I MUST Take a pic tomorrow they are literally my bright spot in my little world.
Katie - I read about Amma and I am very interested. My mother would have loved to learn about her as well.....
Dianne... Please stay vigilant about this man. He is sending off warning bells to you already and I know Diesel has your back but still would not want any trouble for you.

Thanks so much Marilyn and LK for encouragement.... you are so right "time is the keeper" here we are not 6 months old and I'm discouraged. You ladies are picking me up and helping me feel better....

We decided to take Lance off payroll... I will have to pay bills 100% from my checks. It actually cheered me up to make this decision because I know the business needs the money. It's good to be physically THERE at the shop and see the customers because for the most part...they are very happy with the coffee...the food...and the gelato.

Got to dig in our heels and make this business happen ! It will we just have to be positive.

Betty so super the ladies are interested in another swamp tour ! You should charge for your tours....you are so super at making trips so interesting for folks.....Hoping the very hot weather subsides for your trip here.... August 2?

again?

Witchy is GOne Gone gone. New guy boss in place. So far so good. Just not making any money.... will take time.

Hugs to all

Mary
PS: WILL get a pic tomorrow Betty.....

Had a fun birthday, Thanks so much for all the wishes. Facebook was really lit up with all the messages. Best of all was a call from JD celebrating our mutual birthday.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Mary, just make sure you save all receipts, for when it comes time to do taxes. You will be surprised how much detailed receipts they ask for.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Mary, I would love to see poto's of your garden, know you are busy so will wait until you can.
Don't be discouraged, takes time for a new venture to take off..know the little shop in barrie does well..perhaps it's been toooo hot for people to be out and about. Couldn't you put lance on payroll the weeks that you do well and that way it would semi help you out in home finances? Am sure you've thought of all that we are saying, sometimes it helps to hear same suggestions from someone else. Since witchypoo has left it must be less stressful?? You get base pay then commission ? We leave New Orleans on the Saturday, have to check the date..we would be arriving early evening, spending night, enjoying all it has to offer on Friday then up and at it. Had planned to do it the year before last but major storm blew in..we're going to be not to far from Marion.

Karen, so glad you had the perfect day!

Girls think it would be fun to east and spend a few hours on Floriday Beach just to say we did then up to Nashville..we go to midnight jamboree so as LNG as we are there for then it would be ok...lol

Dianne, girls are right, I'd be more than a little concerned..too many questions being asked that need not be. Hope you here and there give hints that the dogs can be vicious especially when protecting you and their home..yep you do need a Tony..hard to find though. Quite a process these poor turtles have to do, not sure why but I was told to never move a turtle as they won't survive ?

Katie I read some regarding Amma, I'm in awe, no wonder you wanted to get to visit..she likely is stabilizing effect on all who meet her.

Lordy been up since just after 4am, tried to fall back asleep but no could do.

Load of wash done, craft room tidied, forget if the girls are coming today as the senors BBQ is tomorrow and all are involved..Rita will be the BBQ chef. Thought it better to be clean and them not come or messy and they come.

Weather is heavy this morning, almost tempted to gather chair cushions and set them under cover just incase it rains.

Happy Tuesday from 40F Thunder Bay !
Brrrrrrrrrrr .. never did really warm up much yesterday .. i feel bad for the HummingBirds!

Dianne, please TRUST your 6th sense as far as this fellow goes .. I'm so paranoid i think I would have asked for a 'Criminal Records check' LoL
HEY .. I have to have one every year to work with Hospice .. my 'flaw', a speeding ticket in 2008 in Manitoba LoL
Just simply amazed re the turtles .. Betty, I think it's baby birds you're not supposed to handle, I think turtles are pretty much on their own once they break outta the egg.

Mary .. 'good things come to them who wait', my Mom used to say that all the time, and, she was usually correct :-)
I think the gift certificate idea is splendiferous ^_^

Katie, hear ya on the 'stiffness' .. this cool damp weather is a real bummer .. it's my hands that ache these days ... I take supplements, but find I have to pop an analgesic every so often to keep going !

Off to have my car washed and detailed today, taking the dogs along for a walk .. getting ready for the arrival of Lorna's parents this Sunday. I'll NEVER be ready !!

Have a good day all

TOODLES

I've read with turtles, if you want to "help" one crossing a road , to be sure and take it on in the direction it was headed. Other wise it will just turn and get back into the road.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Karen, thinks that's it..know I saw a turtle crossing the highway, didn't want it to get killed so I moved it across, was told that was a no no

Going to be a hot one here, sure could do with rain!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Just fine to "help " them along as long as you don't change their direction. They are on a mission.
