Best/Worse/What did I learn today!chat with friends old/new

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh, Lil Injun, I'm so jealous! I want a green house! That one looks really nice with fans and everything! You're making magic in your garden. I'm so proud of you!! Looks like the hens and chicks really like living in IL! 😃

Betty, glad you're taking it easy. Best thing for you right now. The stained glass thingy sounds really neat!

Oh pooh, Katie! Why can't anything ever be smooth?

Sitting by the pond. Guess I'll go rustle up some lunch then get back to weeding!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure hope you can get your correct drivers license Katie!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Katie, takes so much of your energy just trying to get things in place to enable you to drive. Am sure Maria would love a road trip. Would she need a passport to visit USA. She is Tony's wife right? Hope chicken you are having tonight is in celebration of drivers permit. Santa Rosalia isn't far? Ahhh wouldn't I just love to sit overlooking Sea of Cortez

Ok the above was typed ins ago. Lol.

Did you enjoy sitting near the ond, laying on your swing Joyce??

Cathy's mom (remember her, never had a cross word and she just never came around again)?? Well Rita came for an hour visit.

Then June

Then Marg from MacTier called, was going to come for the weekend, ended up explaining I wasn't well so we will make it another weekend.

Put my head down and Linda called so giving up tryng to rest. Shaking my head..soo tired of asking blood pressure, everyone who comes misses I do..now I tell them not till tomorrow morning

Drats there goes the phone

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad to hear you are trying to rest Betty. Even with the interruptions with the phone. Glad also to hear Cathy's Mom stopped by. Hope all is well with them.

Went to knitting this afternoon. Was a fun time. The ladies are a riot. Hoping to learn a new technique next time I go - can't for next week as that is Brandon's graduation....Maybe the week after.

Sounds like you still moving in the right direction Katie. Hope things all come together quickly for you.
Your gardens are really coming along Judy and the greenhouse looks great. Good job on the tool holder.
Off to make some brownies for Norm - I promised so I guess I better!!! LOL

Verona, ON

Betty unplug the phone for a bit so you can rest. It doesn't have to be off for hours on end but long enough to give you a chance to nap.You need some rest my dear. If you are concerned your friends will fret if they can't get you on the phone change your message to explain you are resting. They will all understand.

Always took back roads Betty cause we hate the 401. Sometimes its quicker, sometimes it takes longer but you sure enjoy the drive. Not sure what hotels are in Trenton just know there are some along the 401. You are right on with the time about 3 - 4 hours.

Oh Katie I sure hope you get everything straightened away with your DL today. Hope you got to have another enjoyable lunch.

Poor little Duke was so exhausted he slept from 10 pm last night until I woke him up at 5:30 am. He wasn't too sure he wanted to get up either. A friend came at 7 am this morning to get rhubarb and that upset Duke but he quickly settled down.Steve came around 8am and got my dock in place plus my pump into the lake going. I think because Duke knows Steve it wasn't as upsetting.
Right now the 2 of them are in a dither because there are 2 small painted turtles coming up the hill to lay their eggs.I can just imagine how they will react when the big snappers start arriving. They (the dogs) must smell them cause I really had to look to find these turtles.

M I bet Lorna is glad her first week of work is behind her. How did her limb do today?

Glorious day here, hope everyone is experiencing the same.
Dianne

Not sure if anyone is interested, but it is the annual Hosta Swap.

Leland says he'll take Canadians as long as he has at least two. It's a really fun swap. I do it every year!

WOW .. must be GARDENING TIME ^_^
All of us are filled with flowers and seeds and bulbs, pruning, and trimming and weeding .. ya gotta luv it ..

Dianne .. Lorna had a PERFECT day today .. I stopped in to see her on my way home from lunch, and she was edging beds (she has a special way) but, it was so warm .. around 80F
I had to leave as a service was expected to be arriving ... MANY people have stopped to welcome her back .. so gratifying ...

Aww poor wee Duke .. I sure hope he continues to mellow out .. you are so wonderful to have taken him on Dianne.
TURTLES!! We would get them at the Lake .. I hope they have a successful season.

Betty .. when I was so ill there in 2012/13 people would FREAK if they got the answering machine ,, so I finally left a message that I was TRYING to SLEEP .. if you can try that maybe it'll work?

All the pics are amazing .....

Katie, so much kafuffle huh? Hope it all gets ironed out soon ..

Well, I've got the right license. The ppolicwoman looked very serious and said there was a problem. Oh, oh, we said. She said I had to pay full price (about $85) again. We sighed in relief and said no problem.

Lunch was Chinese, again overlooking the Sea of Cortez.

Hope tony got his papers done. Must phone insurane person. later.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Here you were Katie, putting $$$ together for land pmt and now having to fork out another $85 ouch

Knitting group just what you need Barb..know how my glad re anf so hooe your new friends are as much fun.Rta,Cathy's mom looks great. I asked how Cathy was doing and she said fine. I said I missed her visits and she said that's just the way Cathy is..sad really.

Big sigh Dianne, had hoped it wasn't such a long drive, oh well am sure mom and aunt Muriel will appreciate me taking them. Always something in nature moving about to peak Duke's

"M"' bet Lorna will look forward to weekend off. Now that it's starting to look neat and trimmed there won't be as much hard work for her...

Just got a call, mom said she was at aunt Muriel's and could she come over

Best I tidy myself up a bit

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mom visited and now back to aunt Muriel's for the night.

Lovely visit, she did mention twice about what she wanted to get stateside I.e. clothes and solar lights for her gardens..I just said how disappointed I was that I couldn't take her. She looked good, hair done, nails done, pedicure, she looks like the daughter and I the mom today. Really shaky thought.

Rita just called to check up on me, told her I'm off to bed

Hope you all had a great day
Gab in the morning

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Sunshine city here this morning, just got up (Lordy 1/2 the day is gone by)
Walked the gardens, soon to have some gorgeous flowers, excited about that.

Was calling Riley, first few weeks of nice weather when he leaves on his weekend adventures I worry, haven't seen her since Thursday...called and called but no Kittie.

Moving around has caused a bit of a knawing headache..did take blood pressure, is coming down, at 193, guess I just have to give it time.

Looking for little things I can do and yes rest in between.

Do need a few groceries so will take a quick run into town while all the summer people are still asleep.

As I did my walk I saw the two loungers near the pond, must might in full of day do some lounging, maybe start working on a suntan

That is about all for me

What are you up to today

Do want to thank you all for keeping me company yesterday..did need to know you were there

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Betty .. 193 (systoilc, first number) is very HIGH
What was the diastolic (2nd number)?
HEADACHE .. why not pop into a walk in or emerg, just to be on the SAFE side ..

Rain rain rain here, and, MOSQUITOES by the bushel !

Off to get gas and a few groceries ..

Have a great weekend

Glad to hear you got some sleep! Don't over do it!
I am working on some placemats for the queen of the month swap. They still need binding!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Good idea to go get yourself checked out Betty. And no it's NOT being nit picky. Also take the meter you are using so it can be checked for accuracy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was193/83/76
Have appt on Monday..waiting in emerge would be enough to bring blood pressure over the top.

Queens will so love the placematts LindaKay,mic she is a frog lover even more so.great quilting! .I've got july's Queen to think about, I've totebags galore but not sure I want to go that route as if I miss making one one month that queen might feel left out. You are August or September Queen, was thinking ig I could find a little corner in my trunk when going to Texas I could take it with me..

"M" thanks for the link, off to read it now while having coffee.

Went to town, got caught, knew when I saw a yellow spider leading the pack it was Greg, he slowed right down, looked at me and put his handouts thought questioning what I was doing out driving lol. That's what I get for having a orange/red car, everyone knows it is me.

Picked up Timmies coffee and box of tidbits so am off to sit outside..birds are chirping like crazy, sounds of the ponds relaxing and feeling like I'm in the Garden of Eden today has made sitting a must..ok, few weeds might get pulled.

Even thought I could bring something out to paint, do need a few signs for the mileage post, wouldn't take much effort..still haven't forgotten about the tool stand, that's likely a ten mute project (maybe tomorrow)

mulege, Mexico

Good morning everyone,

Betty, take care of yourself. We all depend on you to be here for us as we are here for you.

I slelpt quite well, making up for night before last.

Tony is here. The car papers will not be done until Monday so travel plans are up in the air. We are checking things like the spare tire and I'm organizing things to take with me.

And leaving the rest up to Amma. Sometimes I am not meant to see her. It reminds me of a time I was sitting near her and an Indian boy about ten years old was determined his mother should buy something for him. His mother was very close to Amma and kept saying "no." He was very persistent and was very disruptive. Finally he got close to me; I grabbed him and hugged him to me and said "No." He stried to sputter in protest and I shook him lightly and said, "Your mother has already answered you and the answer is 'no.'" He went away. His mother (and other around us) thanked me silently and we all went back to Amma. I have to remember that for myself. Sometimes the answer is "no."

With the significant progress on getting what's needed done so I can drive the Suburban and getting the Money together to pay for the land I am not pushing for anything else. Tony and I are both noticably more relaxed.

Maria is an American neighbor from up the hill. She is married to Mexican man named Ricardo. She is trained as nurse. She's 10-15 years younger than I am but has taken on a mother role for me during all of this. Her Spanish is much better than mine so she was alot of help with the licenses and generally working with me to get all the details taken care of. It has been good for her, too, as she found that some of her paperwork that she needs to apply citizenship was not in order.

She is becoming a good friend. It's like having one or more of you here with me.

Tony has sold a couple of concrete statues and more people are asking him about them. Over the years I have gotten a lot of molds but we've been too busy with other things to do much with them. I told Tony that he should tell peoople that we will have the information on them more organized by fall. I hope. But first we take care of the car and the house and then we RELAX for a while.

Maria commented the other day on how much more relaxed I am than I was even a week ago and I notice the same thing in Tony.

The last 18 months have been roough.

As always, I am so grateful for all of you and your support as we muddle along.

hugs, katie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, in a small town, you think you can go out and not get caught? Glad you back home and taking it easy!
Nothing better than getting a swap gift from you personally. I am so looking forward to seeing you the end of July!
Katie, glad to hear you got some rest and are feeling better! All that stress will take a toll on anyone!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay in your travels to San Antonio anything off the beaten path you think we should see? Off course we are only there 1 day and want to do the riverwalk, 4d show of Texas and Alamo..nothing like thinking we can do more lol

Well you and Tony certainly have accomplished much Katie, amazing with not feeling the best you've been able to do so. Let's hope all goes well and you get to visit with AMMAN..kids do listen to someone other than their parents..good for you for stepping in. Now the molds you have, are they for cement garden ornaments? Interesting

Just came in for soup, Rita left enough for me, wanted to leave whole pot but I send some home with her..

She came to check up on me and what a laugh we had..got here and I was gabbing with a man, likely late 40's having a good old time, think Rita thought I knew him..

Was out front when this man stopped, asked me a few questions, you kow me, I'll gab with the devil if he wants to talk. Lol

He said with Father's day around the corner family has been on his mind..he lives about 200 miles away, told his wife he needed a day to get back to his roots..his grandparents lived on the side of me, house o longer there, I told him to come into the yard, took him into the secret garden and there to the side was much of his grandmothers house, neighbor had built all around a d onto it but the old farmhouse can still be seen..talked about others in the area, I was able to help him out with info, he was just thrilled and touched a stranger would be so willing to take time to talk.

Then he asked if I found winters hard? Did I go away for winters..then we got on travel, he said Sept 12th he and 8 police officers were flying to New Orleans, he had never been..well you know me, imparted what fun things I've done there over the years, things he might enjoy.

When Rita came I said I found this lovely man travelling the street and invited him in, she thought I was kidding but as he left, giving me a hug and thanking me she realized I didn't know him.

So there went my morning.

Saw mom called, called her back, think she was agitated , all east it sounded like that in her voice mail that I said I was sick and then I was off and running. Called and said I was sitting enjoying the sun, calmed her down

Invited her and aunt Muriel for supper..they aren't sure they will come, left am open invitation, have something in the freezer I can quickly throw in the oven

Verona, ON

Now Betty you didn't advise that nice young man to dance on the table in NO did you? You remind me of my sweet dad- he would talk to anybody and I swear anything.I loved that about him, I'm too shy to follow his example.

LOL LK on the small town! My village is even smaller so there are no secrets. At 1 point in time I used to resent everyone doing what I considered 'poking' their nose in our business but have come to realize they all really do care.

The handyman I hired appeared without calling first this morning so I put him to work anyway. He has already cleared out 1 very overgrown brush area and taken the stuff to the dump. He says he will be back shortly to start in another area.

Good to see you Judy. We are soon going to have to start calling you Bee as you sure as busy as one.Glad Jake was there to give you hand. I noticed you mentioned you had to stack wood - made me chuckle. Never ends does it?

Deadheaded and just generally tidies up the hanging baskets on the deck. The look all spiffy again.

Did you get those Brownies made Barb?

Time to tackle another small chore that doesn't require me to bed over.
Later!
D

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, are you going to visit the Alamo itself? It is really quite interesting to go to? They have a really nice botanical gardens to visit, but that might get you all into trouble when you see all the pretty plants!
http://visitsanantonio.com/english/Browse-Book/Attractions

Dianne, so glad to hear you have help doing things around your place! Don't over do it! Is he good looking eye candy? ^_^

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes to the alamo, I've been but the girls haven't.going to check the link

Told mom/aunt Muriel to come for 6
Maybe I can have a nap till then

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

The Alamo has a live cam out side. My DD & DSIL went and we kept their boys, They called from there and told us to check the live cam, then they waved to us. The boys were so excited.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How nice for the kids

Didn't know when table dancing (not) they had web cam at the Cat in NOLA otherwise I might have behaved myself lol

Great for saying 'hi' but could also get you in trouble

Mom and aunt Muriel just left..they could see I was tired amd flushed so in bed, trying to get comfy and hope I can have another good night sleep..

In the meantime I will do a puzzle

Yikes aybe no sleep, neighbor just starting to cut grass

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Winding down here, busy day..all good

Got a couple of more planters planted, have lots of sweet potato vine in them, four varieties.

Bugs are incredibly discouraging! Trying to sit outside is impossible, however, we have good bug spray..

One big old black bear meandered across the back field
Heads up now for sure.

Time to lay me down.

Glad everyone is okay

M

Verona, ON

Evening everyone! Another stellar day. There is always a breeze here at my place - in the winter it can be terrible but this time of year it is wonderful and thankfully received.

The handyman has proved to be a good worker but I can see I am going to have to set some parameters. He made the mistake of calling me honey and sweetie - he'll not be doing that again. He's a little pushy so I will have to be firm. Its just a matter of us getting used to each other I am sure.I just don't think for what I am paying him I should be supplying him with tools and hold onto your hats - 'cigarettes'.I just about fell over when he asked if I had any extra cigarettes I could spare. Me of all people!

Betty glad to read you are ducked into bed. M gave you a good hint about the phone. Hope you get some good sleep. I'll carry on our banner for Insominiacs hopefully by myself 'cause you are sleeping.

M the bugs are so bad here it is impossible to sit outside even after fogging. The new screened in portion of the deck might become a reality this summer rather than next spring.I want to plan the extension of the deck carefully so don't want to rush into it.I like to go down on the dock after dark to commune with the loons but so far I have only managed to stay down there for any length of time 1 night. I love it as the loons come right up to the dock when I call them. I have been doing this for a few years now and so look forward to it all winter. This year there are 4 loons so am looking forward to seeing babies.

New round of turtles parading up the hill tonight. The boys seem a bit more settled with it tonight. I will have to get my traffic cones out to mark the spots where the eggs are laid so the poor wee things have half a chance of surviving. We have a marauding raccoon or 2 so it makes the turtles chances of surviving even less. The raccoons are wrecking havoc in people's gardens plus going after hanging baskets and pots on decks.Since they used my BBQ brush as a toothbrush last year they haven't been back. Fingers crossed!

Hope everyone had a great day doing what they wanted to today.

Sweet dreams.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Up keeping you company Dianne, Darlene called at 8:30' couldn't not answer..she just needed to gab, her sister is with her mom, Dar will head out first thing in the morning.

Skitters were really bad today, was ok in the sun, back 40 though you could stay but for a sec..luckily with the back deck closed in I could sit out

Sweetie, oops I call everyone honey and sweetie, just how I talk no bad intent meant..now for tools and cigarettes, I'd say that was a no no..glad he is doing a good job for you. How long will you have to protect the turtles?? They use same path year after year don't they? I miss the loons on the lake, loved their mournful sound

"M" you must almost be done with the pots?
Aren't you worried about the bear?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

I tried to join in yesterday but alas our Daves Garden Subscription was expired.....

Joined back up and missing you all terribly....

We had a lovely time in Disneyworld with only one meltdown.... DSD1 Roxanne....

That was much better than the usual 3+ meltdowns.... it was a great trip.

Got back and everything seemed fine but then business took a NOSE DIVE... very scared !

Not sure if LSU out.... people on vacation... paying for past problems.... WHAT was the issue? BUT Today was back to being a GREAT Day so I'm hoping it was just a fluke...

Dianne Missing our walks.... Betty you are treating me to some VERY LOVELY Yellow flowers lately..... Barb hope Grandkids are doing great.... Katie.... hoping Max is settling in....
Debbie (HUGS) seeing you have new members of the fam !~ (HUGS) Judy too and Marilyn, LK, THunder, Joyce, Susan, etc....

I'm just very worried about the business.... IF tomorrow goes okay I might be able to make payroll....and if not...then I will need to infuse the business with savings money from the family....which scares me so much...

I did not want to have to take that route... but if necessary then have to....

Don't have much to give.

Jean - stay cool ! WE are in a huge heatwave right now !

HUGS
Mary

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Mary - you and I were in the same "boat"..... my DG subscription had expired too.

But..... I'm back again :-)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

What a pleasant treat seeing you both posting!
I never think reason for absence is due to subscription running out , will have to pay better attention.

Glad Mary that you and family got to enjoy some well deserved vacation time and what better place, Disney.

I would imagine that in all new/old business ventures there are peaks and lull's,have faith.what does lance think? Don't feel badly about the family helping out, they wouldn't offer if they couldn't. They likely feel good helping you out. How is your dad doing?

Susaminos is the job going, still enjoying it? You are now back into a routine I imagine and love getting a paycheck once again.

Sunshine day again, was in mid 80's yesterday and will be about same today, could rain later today and that would be good as its much needed.

Head is a bit woozy this morning, will take my meds and have a quiet day today.

I have a swap box to get ready, found a large container of seed packets I had saved from last year, will plants and guess that is about it, nothing exciting..

What are you all up to today?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning.
It is so nice to see Susan and Mary. You have been missed.
The grandkids are all fine Mary.
Today we are having brunch with #2 son Dave followed by a horse show. Don't know how much more I will be able to see Brandon ride so I'm taking advantage of all this summer. During the week I try to make one of Sean's baseball games to keep his nose in joint - LOL. Add to that, my quilting and charity knitting projects, I manage to keep busy.....
Need to get ready so waving this morning to all. Hope it is a great day~~~~~~~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good morning everyone ^_^

Mary, huge hugs, ya gotta do whatcha gotta do .. and, if it's borrowing from savings to make payroll, you'll likely have the funds back quickly.
The Gelato place I went to in Winnipeg Manitoba was just BURSTING at the seams in the late summer .. I have no doubt yours will be the same ..

Hey there Susan .. how's it goin in Calgary? Are you enjoying your new job?

Bears ond Thunder Bay, synonymous I'm afraid .. people out this way, and for that matter even in the city, usually keep a heads up for them.
Our big fancy shmancy (not enough beds) hospital was built in a forested area, security guards walk the parking lots keeping an eye out for any bears wandering aroung the perimeter.
Our dogs let us know if something is amiss, even though 70% of the time it's a RABBIT LoL

Dianne, I sure hope the Racoons keep away from the turtlettes .. heart breaking how mother nature plays out sometimes.
LOVE Loons .. I have a Crow that I talk to LoL .. when I hang clothes on the line he sits up in a tree and caws away at me, I usually throw him some bread ..

Laundry, and some baking today (Banana cream pie, from a MIX) also a Ceasar salad for supper, DH is going to BBQ steaks .. and, as usual, yard work !!!

Take good care all

~M~

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Marilynne, have you ever read about how intelligent crows are. They recognize people and even teach the others to know them too. They remember who is nice and who is mean. I'm not mean but don't especially like them. They will rob nests and eat the baby birds, if the birds start over they will return and wipe it out again.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Waving from Ohio!

Good to see you, Mary and Susan!

Overcast here today, chance of rain, but I'm okay with that. Have to get out and get busy. No one else is gonna do it!

Have a great day, All.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Karen, I watched a documentary re Crows, I was blown away !! The 2 or 3 around our property do recognize us. When DS Murray comes over, there's quite a hulaballoo when he walks around the lawns near THEIR trees.
Like Dianne's turtles and their racoon predators, I too find it appalling that the crows dump the Robins' nests and do the nasty, but, as DH says, it's the Circle of Life ..

2 loads of laundry out on the line .. one more to go, still haven't gotten to the pie, my back is giving me what for!!

Enjoy your day .. hope the rain stays away Joyce

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Susan, glad to see your back with us!

Mary, sorry to hear about bad days at the business. Praying it gets busy for you again.

mulege, Mexico

Good morning everyone,

Glad to see Susan and Mary back. Still miss crissy.

Hot here and my energy is taking a vacation.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will have to read up on crows, very interesting , none of which I knew!

Makes me I'll when Missy brings home an offering, guess it is the circle of life but still hard to see. Riley dropped in this morning just long enough to eat and get treats and off she went.

Joyce, you must almost be finished the gardens except for normal upkeep. Are all Reno' done now ?

I too have been washing, did the quilt I use on the couch, came upstairs to fold it, was so warm and toasty that I crawled under it and here I am ready to take a nap, bit of a headache but before i do must go count pills, cant remember if i took it this morning, maybe that is why i have a headache. Must get a pill container.

It's actually damp and cold, sun no sooner came out right back in it went.

Steak, if I had more energy think I'd clean out BBQ and have one for supper, that with onion and peppers grilled but I do have a small rost out I bought yesterday so should cook it. Wouldn't hurt as mom and aunt Muriel are still making trips to aunt Muriel's new apartment to invite them for supper, lots left from last night then add in the roast well enough for sure..wouldn't be too much work getting it ready

Victoria Harbour, ON

You and I are in same boat Katie, feeling guilty for lounging nd doing nothing.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I must not be the only one that took a nap, or, out enjoying the gardens
good for you all, nice to be able to enjoy Sunday!
