I agree with eweed. I have learned, from an expert, that pointing out how what you want is also in their best interest works almost 100% of the time.
Now I'm the one awake. DC is back for a few days, with no nose machine in sight. So snoring It's to be. I can hear it through the music on my headphones.
I keep reading and re-reading my best garden books, trying to get information to stick in my brain. I think by the sixth time through I'll remember some details. I'm just starting to build my garden and would like to start with a framework of mostly natives. The natives that still flourish here, I mean. This is my not strictly edible garden, in the front.
This is pretty much all I think about, up to the second I fall asleep. Which will happen someday. Marti, I hope things start going better for you. Kb it sounds like you are getting good, early care, and I'm glad for that.

Oops. Weird. Sorry.
My insurance company will only pay up to $600.00 for a car for me. That fee is up as of the 10th, but I'm going to rent the car for the 11 & 12 as I have things to do and a Doctors appointment in Lexington on the 12 than they can have their car back. I got the papers today to sign off the Jeep. With no car in my name I can ride the Rteck bus so will have to see what that does for me. I'm looking at used cars so that when I get my check I will know where to go and get a new car.
For now I'm awake, can't sleep and worrying about why I can't sleep. Maybe I'll just give up worrying and see about cleaning the kitchen. Hey, that's a good idea. Bye for now.
Hello Night Owls - hate to say my sleep schedule went back to "normal" there for a long while. Now it's just too dark too early and I want to sleep as soon as the sun goes down. eek! I want to write and say hello during the day time but Carrie won't let me. :D
Tonight, well - it must have been that last extra cup of coffee after 7 p.m.
Marti - dear it sounds like you're having a bit of luck. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Carrie - I left Boston in 1998 just before Romneycare.... But even before then medical providers offered fees on a sliding scale. Doesn't make a bit of sense that so many of us are still uninsured. NC opted out of national healthcare so I'm still on my own . ... Thankful for my health! knock knock knock.
My insurance company has paid off my Jeep loan and I should be getting my check within the next couple of days, YA!! I found a new car but not sure if I want to go that much loan. It is a Buick LaCrosse 2005 with only 47,000 miles on it. It is in prestine condition. Not a mark on or in it with leather seats and wood paneling on the doors and dash inside the car They are asking$10,900. for it. My check will be for $1300.00 so I want to use $1,000 as a down payment. and put the 300. in the savings acct. I'm worried about taking out that $10,000. loan at my age. Maybe I should look for something a little cheaper.
That may seem hi but it sounds like a good car. Is this from a dealer? you can afford to make a higher payment if you are not being nickeled and dimed with repairs. At 47,000 miles it should ne nothing except an oil change and a window wash and you be styling.
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got me a new/used car. I bought a 2010 Chevy Avero for $6,900. It is black in color and a 4 door sudan. My payments will be only $183.00 a month. That Buick I was looking at the payments would of been $340. a month for 48 months. The Chevy is for 60 months. Of course, newer car increased my insurance from $109. a month to $133. a month but that's Ok. I love my new car. Handles well and for a 4 cyclider it gets 40 miles a gallon on the open road and 34-38 around town. $25.00 filled the tank. This morning it will take me to my Doctors appointment in Lexington. I also get oil change for free as long as I own the car and a livetime warranty of the engine. Not bad!
Marti, i've bought my share of ueed cars and your Chevy sounds Iike a snart move. CONGRATULATIONS.
We had blinds in Texas and no curtains so one of our first jobs back east was curtains. We found some at bed & bath that were on clearance . So instead of being stingy with not enough fabric we bought 2 more panels. Looks nice!
Thanks carrie, I love my new car. I do miss the cruise control and power windows and locks but I'll get used to it.
4 am and I just gave up trying to sleep. I've been tossing and turning since around 10 pm. Of course it does not help that I have 4 cats and a mini dachund trying to sleep with me and on me.
I would die without cruise control so use to it saving my arse I would hate to leave home without it. I could live without the locks but not on Lindas car.
Merry Christmas to everyone!
Hello, everybody. I've been keeping up with this thread, althiugh I try not to,post outside the time.
Well, I made it thru Christmas by myself now looking at New Years alone. I have a niece that lives next door to me and she could not call me to say Merry Christmas, neither could the other 2 nieces that live here in Ky, but my niece from Calif called me and talked for a few minutes for Christmas. Plus my Aunt from Calif called me as well as my son. My grandson loved the remote controlled car I sent him. I'm glad he liked it. Cost me $47.00 to mail a $20. gift. My son says there is a park near them where they can take the car for my grandson to pay with it. They live in a moble home park and there is not place to play with the car except in the street.
Merry Christmas to all insomniacs!
Here it is almost 4 am and I'm awake and up for the day. Don't know what I'm going to do for the day, but I'll think of something.
My new car is doing great and I'm getting used to doing without cruise control and power locks and windows but I do miss them at times.
I missed wishing you all a Merry Christmas , so I will wish you all a Happy New Year ! , New Years Eve , and I am Enjoying all the baking and different Holiday foods , but I am worn out ,,
Must not be too Bad though , just after 4 am and I slept good ,, up and about for another day .
Holiday is season is nice , people not always seen , memories , if there is not a lot of baggage in mind ,, prayers and hopes from me to you ,that you all have a good and pleasant holiday and new year .
Well, we made it thru another yr. Was talking to a friend and we agreed that in the early 50's when we were kids that the yr 2015 was so far away that it was like science fiction to even think about seeing it. Now it is here and its real!
I hope everyone had good holidays. I spent the holidays by myself except I took my BF out to dinner with me new yrs day. We went to Golden Corral and had a good time. Right now I'm sitting here eating seedless red grapes. Had a craving for them and picked up some at the store this morning. Now I can't stop eating them.
Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to all my insomniac pals! Christmas was crazy as usual. My husband does his shopping on Christmas eve which makes EVERYBODY tense. And we shop for 6 grandchildren, 6 kids, 2 DIL, 3 parents, a few extraneous boyfriends. .... it's stressful. But it's almost over. We still have stuff for one family (two kids and two grandkids) under the tree. Christmas seems more like an ordeal every year. (Sorry to be so Grinchy.)
carrie you have the right to be grinchy you are from the East Coast now and from what I have seen they are grumpy by nature lol.
Marti we have been buying red seedless grapes for some time now. They seem sweeter than the green ones that have been the standard around here for years. Think I will go get some right now.
Happy New Year all ! I havent been online much, we had a run of bad luck.
we had planned a vacation to the beach in september, so got a new,
deoendable (!) car. On day 2 of trip, I fell face-down on ceramic tiles, and
didn't want to stay in that hotel, so we left before we could even see the sand.
but I did get a whiff of sal breeze.
The resr if that week was just as crazy, unfortunately.
Then the following week, some fool hit the car and it was totaled. We have gao insurance, but it still hasn't paid off sigggh
So off we got to get abother car and on Dec 26, hubby got in a fender bender
Merreee Christmas !!
Ilm just praying the chain has been brokn for the new year.
I will try to be more positive next post.
After allm only 2 mos and 3-ish weeks till spring, right ?????
I finally have a surgery date for my total right knee replacement. Feb 25th. Now I just need to finalize the details and I'm good to go. I'll work right up to that day so that I don't sit around here and get nervous.
Right now the cold is playing hob with my arthritis and my bad knee. And we have wind qusts that are rattling the windows and shaking the trees. All four cats came in and are making themselves comfortable around the bedroom where its warm and the little dog is under the covers of the bed. I think I'll join them and try to get some sleep.

Marti, that's good news, right.
Becky, oh no! That's TERRIBLE! It will make a great story
Well, I'm up for awhile. My knee woke me up when I tried to turn over and it didn't like the movement. It seems my life is being run by this bad knee of mine.
I will be glad when the cold weather is finally gone and we have warmth. Hurry up Spring and get here.
Hear, hear!
Well, my knee got me up again. Will be so happy after surgery to be free of this pain. I'm living on Tylenol and Voltaren Gel and they don't really help that much. Maybe I'll pick up some Aleve and see if that helps.
Marrrttttti sorry your knee hurts so much. Can't your doc give you a script for something that will ease your pain so you can sleep?
Because of kidney problems the Dr doesn't want me taking alot of stuff, but Aleve has helped before so I'm going to try it again.
We've got a good dusting of snow right now so going out to the store will have to wait for a while today.
We are having a "historic" blizzard. So far, I am unimpressed. I will have to ask my mother if I really did shovel the driveway in snowstorms after my father left.
Marti. I don't really know how to answer you. Pain is horrible and bad pain is worse. I hope you're peacefully asleep.

Marti - I had the knee replacement done about two years ago and the difference is miraculous. I occasionally still send the surgeon a thank you note. He assures me that I did the work - in physical therapy. I also lost fifty pounds before the surgery. Have gained about twenty back but am losing again.
Does wearing a brace help. I used to wear one when I slept and it helped.
I heard the story of a woman who refused post-op pain killers, saying nothing could be worse than the pain she had been in. I took everything they would give me.
hugs, katie
Katie, I've talked to several people who have had this surgery and they all say how much better they were after surgery. I'm trying to loose some wt but can't exercise because of the knee. I tried walking up and down our street, but the knee gives out and I'm in alot of pain. So am watching what I eat and trying to stay away from alot of sweets. I got some aleve and it works better than Tylenol in controlling some pain. I also use a topical called Voltaren Gel.
They gave me a knee brace, but it is a large blocky thing and is not comforable to sleep in. I'm thinking about wraping the knee with an ace bandage and see if that helps.
Thanks for the advice and the hugs.
Walmart online has an exercise bike for about $100. It is rated better than the one they carry in their stores. I got one after the surgery and use it often. If it fits your budget you could get one now and use it to exercise as you can. It's supposed to be the best for physical therapy after the surgery even if it's too painful to be used now.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. For me, like many, the time before the surgery was the most difficult.
By the way, I had my surgery at a hospital where the top Navy people are treated. It was better than a five-star hotel. Very quiet, private room, good food. The cost of a three-day stay was over $35,000, fortunately paid for by Kaiser as I don't have that much income in a year!!
hugs, katie
23 more days til surgery. I'm getting a little nervous about it. I still am having trouble finding someone who will drive me to the hospital and than come back and get me. That's the only problem with having the surgery done in Lexington, but I don't trust the Dr here in Somerset and am much more comfortable with the doctors in Lexington. Here in Somerset, you make an appointment to see the dr and than you get to wait in the office for hours to see him/her. My sister had an appointment for 10 am one day and we did not get in the back office till 12:30 and saw the dr at 2 pm. They just make to many appointments for one time. In Lexington they make an appointment for 10 am and the lastest I've had to wait was 1/2 hour and they apoliged for the delay. Plus their attitude is just different. They act like they are happy to see you and they take time to talk to you not down to you. They explain everything and always ask if I have any questions. Down here they treat you like cattle and don't explain anything or care if you have questions. They just can't be bothered with you and act like you are taking up their valueable time. Well, I guess that's about enough about that.
We have rain right now but maybe snow by daylight. I have to go to work this morning so am hoping for no snow. I got tried of my hair and had it cut and permed. Looks better and feels better. I'll see what they think at work.
Marti are there any volunteer agencies there that you might use or a cabulance. Will your health care ins pick up most of the cost of transportation.
Most of the volunteer groups will only work here in Somerset. I need to be in Lexington for my surgery. That's a 2 hour drive from here. Medicare will not pick up any cost of getting me there.
Social Services agencies often have transportation workers. You might contact them and see if you can find someone who would do it on their own time. Still thinking. kb
Maybe you could barter-- a pot of spaghetti as a trade?
O Marti - sorry to hear you're having trouble. I am fortunate (?!) to be awake tonight to say hello. I will keep you in my thoughts as you make preparations for surgery.
I hope everyone is doing their best to keep an eye on the calendar - spring is just around the corner. Keep hope!
A.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. When I go into the hospital for surgery I will be off line for about 10 days but will get back on line once I am home from rehab. My surgery is on the 25th of this month and I am getting nervous about it and being gone from home for the time. My nephews say they will look after my cats and dog till I get home.
