Excited, saw a few leaves opening.

Talked to neighbor on the secret garden side, yung man, mid 40's
Had a heart attack in February, major surgery.. nearly didnt make it..works for himself, needs to be off another month or so

One thing about nice weather, brings neighbors out to chit chat

Went to the store next door for a treat, yes I deserve it..
There was Noah, I said 'you let me down Noah'.
Took but a second for him to say 'no, was coming this evening'

All but two gardens have been raked so I would venture to say by nightfall they will all be done

Will leave the drive where plowman pushed uphill while plowing, also the back 40 and I may get the blower out for that

Sure feels good to almost be there.

Hips and neck are telling me I must lay down and I'm going to listen!

Sounds like a lot of work and you over did it!

Looks like it is going to be a warm summer!

From my phone about an hour ago!

Rita just asked, how hot will it be when we are there late July/first days of August. Lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

OW .. nuff said .. overdid it, paying the price and going to bed !!!!!

~M~

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh I don't even want to think about Texas in August! 😱

Betty I agree nothing more soothing than the sound of the water in the pond and the frogs singing their songs. I wish I could say nearly done. Well, gardeners will just have to understand!

Soup sounds good. I picked up baked chicken from Kroger and we split a baked sweet potato. It was satisfying.

Just went out and put my cleaning things away from the garden. Rain coming sometime tomorrow and lasting a few days. Guess I'll be cleaning inside! Sure was a beautiful day today. Sunny and 70s. I couldn't be in the garden though. Had to help with a water problem at DMILs this morning and decorate a church for a regional club meeting tomorrow. By the time I got home it was time to fix dinner and then I made mini quiches for the meeting in the morning. Now I have my feet up and a kitty on my lap! Life is good!

Victoria Harbour, ON

"M" did Lorna over work you?

Was funny, Friday I did a burn in the pit, wasn't sure if I should have so tiki marshmallows out with me as it was ok to burn firepit if for cooking..am sure they would believe me, the were the mini ones LindaKay sent me..didn't Rita come home with a pressie for me, giant size so all set to burn tomorrow night if it doesn't rain.

You are one busy lady Joyce..mine are raked but weeding needs to be done,

How is your mil?

Been awhile sice Depsi posted, she was unwell, anybody see her on another thread?

Susan, how was work last week?

Debbie, we are missing you!!

Bedtime , sprayed body with ice/cold and took a pain killer
Just took gravol to sleep so am all set

Night night

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, it will be pretty hot by July! Make sure you bring shorts or comfy clothes!

Betty, Depsi posted on the Pets Forum in early April.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

work is Great, Betty
On Friday, had a meeting with Chair of Board of Trustees, and the current Treasurer (Les).
During the meeting, the Chair (Bill) had to go for a few minutes and Les said "thank you for helping with this - I was lost and you knew the right answers to Bill's questions". He was SO relieved I did....
After the meeting, Les had to go to pick up his wife, so Bill & I were talking. He said - "We know that Les isn't an accountant, and I had no idea he was so far behind (November) and I wish I'd known so I could have helped him." Bill btw, used to be a CFO - he's retired and wouldn't have the time/energy to do the Accountant/Treasurer position.
I guess this means they're glad they have me there!! I'm really happy in this job, too :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is good news!

Please say prayers for Janice Mekos and her son Danny... Copied from Janice' Facebook page.

Im trying to update everyone on my son but so many messages are coming in faster than I can get to them and its freezing up my phone n shutting it down. So instead of messages im posting here. Earlier tonight my baby son was at his friends house to check on her for his male friend who was not able to be there. While he was there a friend of hers dropped by to see her. That girl had recently broke up with her boyfriend and the angry boyfriend dropped in. He started beating her so the girl who lived there jumped in to protect the girl and guy started beating her too. My son wasn't gonna let a man beat them so he tried to get him off them. The guy pulled a gun n shot him in the head. They wrestled over the gun and guy may have been shot in hand ??? Not sure but guy is in jail last I heard. My baby is in trauma unit critical care in greenville.
He is conscious and talked to me for a couple hours now. At first when they called me to come nurse wasnt sure id make it here on time. She asked a couple times how far away was I znd how long till I could get there??? She wasn't too hopeful. I called Synda Glasure-Haag asking for prayer chain and when I got here he hugged me and talked to me. He knows what happened and We got hope he will be ok. Prayer works and I got faith. I don't believe God will take my baby. Im praying anyway n claiming his healing.
I appreciate all the prayers and will update here as I can. Phone signal is blocked inside the hospital because of the trauma unit. So thanks everyone and please continue to pray. He has tests scheduled at 7 am. Should know more after that.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I will be g one for a few days. Off to San Antonio to help out my DIL, Heather. She is going through a lot of pain with all her infections while Andy is working. I will be back Wed afternoon!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg, is that our Janice?? How horrible is that? Prayers being said for Janice and her family.

Susan, great news..let's hope this is the final workplace until you officially retire,.seems job is made in heaven!

Safe travels LindaKay, when did heather contract all these infections?

Hope everyone and their families were safe from the tornado's..worry about you all

Will almost hit 60 today then rain all weekend..guess if more needs to be done it had better be tonight.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending prayers for both Heather and Danny. Hope they will both be well quickly....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Make someone smile today with a joke..hard to believe Tubby has been gone 3 years

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I was just looking at the map of Ohio this morning to see where Brandon will be going to school. It is right on 75!!!! Isn't that the road you travel Betty? And - it is right next to Fostoria which is where Janice lives (ladydragon5)! And down the road is Joyce!!!! There are a few more DGers in Ohio too. Kizmo is there but on the other side of the state. And Lucy, (jumper2) who does the quilts with her daughter's horse ribbons. She is on the Lake (Huron). I think an extended road trip next spring may be in order!!!!! WOW!

Lyndonville, NY

To add to prayers, Chrissy is FINE....but Arkansas was hit with tornados, the area she used to live....pretty bad. They are still bad weather in that area.

I am OK...tired. Made it through MILs 1st birthday party, very awkward place for me to be.

At least sun is shining today, we might hit mid 50s.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I-75 is indeed the road I travel ...wonder how Janice is doing, hasnt posted in ions..should get a card off to her.you haven't had a roadtrip since you spent time with me right? Time to plan another..Brandon will be there for sure then? Bet he is excited!

Debbie, same weather here..her 1st EVER party??know you and she don't mix, sorry it was awkward..you weren't treated badly though I hope?

Heather has been sick for awhile. The Dr. Can't seem to pin point what is going on. When her Obama care insurance kicks in May 1st she can start seeing specialist. ER told her she has inflammatory uterus disease and possibly lupus.

Sending prayers for all those in the path of the storms.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hoping it's not Lupus. That seems such a catch-all for what ails you. I know it's one of those auto immune things but just seems they throw it out there a lot.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had 2 aunts with lupus, hopefully not what she is diagnosed with. Good that Obama care will cover more extensive tests and specialist, that will give her some comfort..may 1st is but days away! You are in San Antonio now? Bet the kids are thrilled to have you with them!

Karen are you feeling better?

Just going out to back shed, I've 2 more cafe table sets to put out, not much more in storage.

Went to Barrie Garden Center this afternoon, could have spent the entire afternoon lookng around..seems odd, they have an entire line of clothing and jewelery which now takes up 1/4 of the garden center..guess maybe we gardeners like to dress up. I could have come home with a car load of plants/shrubs but far too early to buy them.

Did buy a glass container with yellow daisies for coffee table seeing as my yellow mums are dead (other than leaves), reminds me they are still in the car.

Does anyone know which ivy grows in the garden and can withstand our winters..I've a large trailing one, want to move it location but afraid it might die...here I kill ivy plants in the house and this one is flourishing after a long cold winter..wouldn't mind looking for a few more.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

So far my ivied look awful, I'm hoping they're just late showing up but I'm not very hopeful!!

Oh Barb, don't tease me! Could you really come see me? I'd be so excited!

Garden club meeting was good today. Mini quiche went over well. Glad I grabbed one when I set them out or I wouldn't have got one!

I won a door prize, it's a bird house shaped like a lighthouse, but only decorative, cause the hole is way too little for a bird. Cute though.

Sherry won a HUGE begonia plant donated by one of the garden centers. She just had said to me, I'm not going to win anything, and I said you'll probably win that big begonia and they called her number! What a lucky girl!!

Glad Chrissy is ok. Thanks for letting us know, Debbie.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes Betty, I feel much better. I'm still building up my stamina but no nausea so all up hill.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great new Karen, you will be weak for some time yet after being so I'll.

Joyce, am sure if the birds can't use the house it will look wonderful as a piece of garden art..wonderful that both you and Sherry won something as well, lucky her, a begonia.

Thought of you Joyce when I was at the garden center, in the far back of the store is a huge pond with a waterfall..in the middle of it sits 3 large mushrooms, like 3 to 4 feet high with a water spurting out of each mushroom, beautiful. $699. Asked the girl if she could call my boys and tell them seeing as I was a good mother this year I deserved getting this piece..she laughed..what a piece!

What kind of ivy Joyce, would love to buy more..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, I wish I had some way to keep my ivy under control! They say first year it sleeps; second year it creeps and third year it leaps. Believe me that is what mine does.....oh, I inherited English Ivy when we bought this house. Sure wish it would survive your winters as I would give you all you want and more.

I can only imagine what I will be facing in my yard when I get home. Scary!

Baton Rouge, LA

Love to all....
Betty your yellow daisy like flowers are about to burst into abundance...

We were blessed with not losing a whole lot with the freezing weather /temps this winter....I'm not sure how we were spared.... hubs pipe warmer? Pool? Brick wall?

At any rate all my hibbies are coming back so far.
Iris blooming... from swap... many that have never bloomed before...

Hugs all
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Marion, I can hear your mind working, you are to go home and relax, not work yourself to death. Bet you are anxious to make the trip home and see family.. Everything a go? Sue dealing ok with your leaving, adjusted to the fact you have to do this of your well being? I will have to take a photo of the ivy, didn't realize they can be intrusive...think I planted it from a flower basket 6-7 years ago..if gladly take some of yours for trailers for deck baskets.

Mary, smilling thinking you have some of my flowers in your garden. Like you I thought I'd have lost many trees/shrubs but so far all except the 3 cedars in front yard survived.

Raining, laying here listening to it, find it soothing and thing 'April showers bring May flowers"
Rita was saying she could virtually see the grass turn green..always an exciting time of year..always enjoy walking the gardens each morning to see what has popped up,

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I think that is what I miss the most - walking the yard to see what is coming.... No yard here but I will pot a couple things and set them outside my window. I'm thinking a bright red geranium would make me happy. I must talk to the landlord here. There is a balconey for the apartment above us that is built over our living room window. I want permission to hang flower baskets from it.... Those with balconies get to have plants so why not me????

Victoria Harbour, ON

think it's a great idea, can't see why not! Geraniums would cheer you up each time you look out your windows..too bad you couldn't have had a balcony.

USA sure is being hit hard with storms, wind here can carry me away..went and tied down what I could, even unplugged the water feature in the pond thinking if winds were to catch the waterfeature rod it may keep blowing water outside the pond and burn motor, so I decided to side with caution.. say that we may break record for most rainfall in a day...please, stay in, be safe all of you..worry about you all!

Eating a BLT, sipping coffee, saw blade out and hoping to paint as much of it as I can..should keep me out of mischief.

Verona, ON

Oh Betty I was up too - wish we were closer we could have had tea or even hot chocolate.I haven't slept since a nap Sun afternoon. Just can't shut that switch off in my head.

Mary the pups continue to have a blast with the Kong you sent them - the 1 they dismantled and play with the parts.

Trilliums started to pop through yesterday. Weren't there in the am but when I walked the pups in the pm there they were. Woo hooo.

Watching the rain come in over the lake. Very thankful that rain is all it is, although it looks like we will be getting a goodly amount. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for those in storm's way.Marion and LK are you both OK?

Need to find something to eat.The BLT sounded great!

Susan I am absolutely estatic your new job is providing you with such joy and sense of accomplishment.

Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

So many factors at this time of year which creates a 'no sleep' atmosphere
fresh air, being out working in the gardens, over tires thus can't sleep..am sure much the same for you Dianne..

Nearing the anniversary of Warren's passing, that alone would have the mind working overtimes, memories good and bad keeping you awake.

sending hugs and yes, wish we could have coffee together.

Started to paint the sawblade and I start with winter, you'd think I'd have enough of winter..guess I just want to get it over with..been ions since I painted with acrylics..not doing as well as I normally do, should have done some practice pieces lol

oh well, doing it for free, am sure the young man will like it regardless

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We are fine here in Texas. No storms. Just lots of heat. It was 100 again yesterday.
Hope you get a nap today Dianne.

Verona, ON

Excellent news LK. I know you live close to the border but then you said you were going to your DDIL's to help out. I am sure she is very happy to have you there.

Barb excellent idea about the baskets. I can't see why the owner would say no.

May 6 is the 2 year anniversary of Warren's passing. I plan to go out and get some pretty annuals that day rather than mope around here at home. Won't be able to put them all out yet but at least the pansies can go out. Man I have raked and raked and it looks like I have done nothing in some areas. This wind we have been having hasn't helped. This in part is my own fault as I basically ignored the gardens for 2 years so did expect a big chore. I've started raking the leaves and debris onto a tarp and then dragging the tarp into the bush and dumping it there. At least then it doesn't blow back.Plan and extra walk that day with the pups too.

Sleep has been something that has eluded me all of my life. I hate taking Rx meds but this time I might have to give in. I just feel wired so a nap is not in my plan for the day.

Hoping the rain will cease and desist so I can go back out. I don't mind it being chilly. out.

M how are you feeling today? Better I hope.

Make sure you all do something nice for yourself today ladies.
D

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you are mentally preparing yourself Dianne for the anniversary, regardless how many years has gone by it still hits hard. Likely we'll not be able to plant annuals till June if then!

Bones are aching, this dampness sure brings out the aches, especially the hips.

I too need little sleep, the less I get the less I need, don't know why I have a bedroom lol

spoke to mom this morning, seems she is interested in looking for a seniors apartment in Barrie, closer to all of us

working on 'painting' fall

That is coming along nicely Betty. Now I just need to see a pumpkin!!!!

Sounds like you are really keeping busy Dianne. I was so sad to leave Warren's flowers behind when we moved. What would he have liked in a basket? Maybe I can plant something special here....

Debbie, you have the patience of a saint.

Hope you are feeling better "M".

Off to get a bite to eat - ~~~~ to all....

Heya ..
The 'bad gurl' is back, that'd be me :-(
Sunday, Lorna wanted to put her plough blade BACK on .. and .. re attach her winch rope .. I felt I could help instead of waiting for Gordon .. WELL .. almost 4 hours later, I was plumb exhausted, cold to the bone, covered in mud and kinda ticked we hadn't waited for DH ..
I lifted, pushed, pulled and kicked the blade .. we finally got the holes to line up so Lorna (laying on a tarp on top ot the MUD) could set the blade ,, I needed to use a crowbar to help ..
Come Monday, I was a hurtin unit .. lost my voice, remained chilled .. DH had gotten home, and, I crawled back into bed and stayed there for 5 hours !!
I now KNOW I can no longer do that heavy physical stuff .. makes me SO angry .. I was always a 'doer' .. slowing down is taking forever to seed itself in me.

Dianne .. you sure are bust with poochies and raking .. it's SO windy here today that there is noway we can rake, or, anything much else ..
Went to the gym, then went to PetSmart and bought Piper a DOGHOUSE for his BDay (May 4) .. his CHAMPAGNE BDay no less LoL
Lorna will put it together, DH and I will help, but, she loves doing this kind of stuff ^_^

Betty, the blade is coming along splendidly .. very nice ..

I'm like everyone else Barb, I think a couple of hanging baskets should be A OK .. Geraniums are so brilliant and bright, AND, hearty !!

Marion, love the wee saying about the Ivy ..
Will you be heading home in a bit?

So saying prayers for all those in the States that got struck by tornadoes .. was watching the TV coverage and just kept saying "OMG' !!!

Going to play cards with Lorna, course, she ALWAYS wins LoL
Her parents arrive in June and her and her Dad are forces to be reckoned with, her Mom and I just sit and chuckle...

Do take care everyone

Toodles

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

"M" can empathize with you re it's hard to let go, not do all the things you once did..yep, sure pay for it!!!! Bet Gord gave you the what for and Lorna probably told you a zillion times to go inside..you must pay attention to them, they do know best!

Gee whizz, seems like yesterday Lorna's parents were visiting, here it's time for them to come again. Though you and Lorna might take a trip here, given that up?

Did you hide Piper's doghouse until actual birthday or could you not wait?

Put the blade away until tomorrow, should know I always tell those I teach painting to 'it's the ugly stage and you will love it shortly' well I no like so perhaps tomorrow after spring has sprung, bright colors added, shading done I'll like it.

Still raining heavily, not complaining though, far better than our friends in USA

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm happy now - I see pumpkins!!!!
