Thanks LK - That is a very comprehensive article. Sure hope Ryleigh gets well quickly.

Up and at'em but, just 'gobsmacked' at all the bad news I am seeing online ..
From the missing aircraft, to earthquakes in Chile, to the shootings at Fort Hood, almost makes me NOT want to get online, but, it IS life, and, we must do with it as we can do ..

Hoping Ryliegh is going to have a SHORT course of C Diff .. finding meds to bind the stool is very tricky ..

We're in the melting process here .. so, it's icy and slippy .. but, the snow is SLOWLY going.

I hope everyone has a stellar day

I know what you mean regarding the news "M". It can get so depressing to us if we let it.
I'm off by myself for a haircut this morning. I'm looking forward to going somewhere definite by myself without having Norm drive me there. Finally it is warming up here.

Then it is home to work on a knitted baby set - at least get it started. I am going to the knitting group tomorrow come H3LL or hot water. I haven't been all winter and I'm really looking forward to it.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and prayers for all those in need.

Woke up after some yukky dreams with a bad headache. After aa couple of hours of TV I decided that A bad mood and a nonfunctioning brain were no excuse for not doing some work so I painted four tires and planted some seeds, Now I'm in a rotten mood with a sense of accomplishment. Take that, rotten mood.

The origin of my sweet potato pudding is from allrecipces.com and is Granddy's sweet potato meringue pie. I've changed it a bit. I microwave two or three sweet potatoes (amount can vary a lot as you will see). When they are soft and somewhat cooled I put the flesh in a food processor with a half cup of butter (can be part some other fat but the butter gives a great taste) and four egg yolks. It can be microwaved briefly to cook the egg yolks but I usually eat it as is. The pie recipe calls for some sugar, milk and spices but I don't find any of them to be an improvement.

My good new is that I checked a container where I had tossed some adenium with no hope as they were at least a year old and they don't keep well. I was surprised to find a big bunch of little plants. I have one big adenium plant that I got at Walmart couple of years ago and it's gorgeous. In full bloom right now. I had some little plants I grew from seed a few years ago but Tony overwatered them. I put the seeds in a couple of weeks ago, watered them and forgot them.. I love plants that thrive on neglect.

Just bought tuna fish, scallops and octopus from my friend Rafael.

Back to work.

hugs, katie

Gorgeous Betty. That is really nice. I love the yellow pillows and mums too!!!!!!

Got my hair cut and came back home. I didn't want to press my luck the first time out by myself in months. I did just fine. going to the knitting group tomorrow.

Had a bit of excitement here this afternoon. The people across the hall from me were in a tiff with some others and the battle came into my hallway. I opened my door and told them all (4 young girls about 20-25 years old) to just shut up!!!! They kept up on the yelling so I stood there in my doorway and called the police. I then shut the door. About a half hour later there was a knock on the door. It was the police telling me the situation was in hand and if I saw a certain one of the girls back again, I was to call them. Just what I need - a neighborly battle. However the lady across the hall did thank me for putting a stop to it. Fun, fun, fun.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Started to laugh Katie, that is what to do to ward off bad moods!
Thanks for the of on sweet potato pudding, could be used as a veggie as well right.
Any news on the plates for the vehicle. As good as it likely is, won't be joining you for supper..nope, making a face. Lol. Have to go check what adeniums are

"M" great photo's..you didn't say if kids were ok with the not moving..Lordy the kids sure have grown. Now those furries have a hard life...so comfy they are.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh Barb, that would be scary, girls are sometimes just as bad as boys for fighting..hopefully they were just visiting and will return no more. Is it an adult building. Nice you got out for the afternoon and going again tomorrow..bet you will enjoy the sewing group.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well I had to Google them and then clicked images. They are weird looking plants but lovely flowers.
Siiiigh, I know spring will hit us eventually but still won't be able to grow much here. I was at a neighbors yard sale last summer and she had a wonderful yard. I asked how she accomplished it. Well she said. for about 3 years they kept adding manure and mixing it with the sand. Then they put in a watering system, and finally only planted shade tolerant plants......I'm doomed.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .. woke up to 3-4" of resh HEAVY snow !
Helped Gord shovel and he is now off to his class .. he could very well be the only one there, but, he's the instructor, so, off he went.

I would imagine Lorna will be out in her Mule plowing later, where she'll put the snow, we have no idea.
BUT it is 28F ^_^

Barb .. I would have called from INSIDE the apt .. I'm a chicken .. good thing all turned out well.

Lovely 'Easter Egg Throw' Betty ..
Re the kids and no move, they are quite happy!!
Murray (DS) will be home on April 11 then back out west on the 14the, home for good on April 30th ..

So happy for you Marilynne, not about the snow but that your family will soon be right again. We might get a bit of snow or freezing rain or just rain, in the low 30s.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Love how your avatars keep changing Karen.

And I'm sorry about snow "M" - it just doesn't seem to want to stop up there. Glad to hear Murray gets a break for a weekend. It will mean much to his family and you and Gord.

I am going to the knitting club this afternoon. First time since last Nov. They must think I didn't like it when I went then. Head is stuffed up from being out yesterday so I'll take a pill before I go. Wouldn't want a runny nose when I'm knitting!!!

Sunday is the state finals for Sophia's gymnastics. It will be held close by so we are planning to go. Need to be there by 7:45 am and she takes the floor at 8.... Why so early on a Sunday morning, I just don't know...But we will be there anyway....

Hope Everyone has a great day~~~~~

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks Barb, I do the same on Facebook. Photo is the next grand or great having a birthday. I change at the end of their day. This is Payton my oldest great, lives in TN was named for Peyton Manning when he was still at UT, he'll be 11 tomorrow, Terrific young man, this was taken when he was up here last summer.
When his mom (my oldest grand) went to hospital in labor, her dad called me and said well you ready? I said for what and he said let's go so we jumped in the car and headed to TN. We made it just in time.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That's wonderful Karen!!! He looks like a fine young man!!! I imagine there are a lot of Peytons around now!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have fun this afternoon Barb, let us know what projects you will be working on, sweater would be good, which reminds me, wouldn't be a bad idea to put that knitting and sewing together and make yourself that quilted sweater, would be great for spring!

That is early Barb, I could never figure out the same, when the boys were in hockey they would play at 5-6a.m. and adults mid-afternoon and evening, something wrong there. Best of luck to Sophia!

Not more snow "M" lordy, will it never stop. Was out walking on hard crust snow to the back shed, I am sure in May it will still be on the ground, but robins are here, that's a good sign and wouldn't you know against the back shed there is wild geranium popping up, mini pussy willow tree has some blooms, checked some of the shrubs and there are actual buds so looks as though they've survived the winter..that being said some broken pieces I didn't get to put away, winter fell so quickly..oh well, excuse to replace them right? best I stick to metal art.

Have to go to Midland this afternoon, decided Chinese would be nice for supper and in the meantime, sewing away..Missy resting while I work

Karen, he doesn't live close enough does he that you can join in the celebrations?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Always like Karen's avatars .. and Payton is a real cutie .. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to him ^_^
Our Austin will be 13 on April 10th, BDay party April 12th ..

Betty sounds as though the Spring is getting ready to blossom in your neck of the woods .. my Forsythia is AGAIN under snow cover .. it had been out about a foot or more ..

We are getting ready to go across the way and plow out a neighbours home. He had his 2nd knee replacement last week and are staying in the city at their daughters .. Lorna LOVES to do the plowing, and, I'll go with her and shovel the deck and walk ways .. good thing it isn't cold, but, so far, we have had 6"+ of snow and it's still comin down ..

Best get some track pants on and get ready for the adventure !!

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Please "M" don't send it my way..looking outside, winds are so strong that I imagine I will have a rough time keeping my little car on the road..wow

Lorna is feeling better then? When will she hear the job interview?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I wish I could celebrate with them (his sisters b'day was March 27) but don't want to carry the crud. Feel much better but want to be sure it's really truly gone and we're no longer toxic.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good idea to keep 'the crud' to yourself Karen, you'd feel horrid if you passed it along ..

Toss up as to when Lorna will hear if she'd hired back .. so much snow, I don't know when it'd be a GO to start ..

Took some pics today .. not sure if I can find them, but, I'll try ^_^

~M~

Found them .. basically just showing how much snow is still here .. Piper LOVES to get up on the banks and act like a BIG dog LoL

WOW "M" - that is still a LOT of snow. Ours has mostly melted now but it is still very cold and windy here. We still have the huge snowdrifts around from the plows. The dogs look so cute in the snow....

I just got home from the knitting group I went to this afternoon. I was warmly welcomed and made to feel right at home. My neighbor upstairs goes and asked me to join her. It was fun to get out and meet some new people.... I'm knitting a baby set - sweater and bonnet - so I have something to work on when there.

Oh happy days,

Let me introduce myself..Bessie Marie Alice Pauze

Couldn't change the Bessie without legal name change but I can still use betty except for legal docs.

I now have matching drivers permit, car /trailer/boat ownerships, Social Insurance Number, Health Insurance, vehicle/home insurance all in one name..took a few years but finally done

If I drank I'd go out and celebrate. Lol

Called Greg and Jeff to let them know, both laughed at how excited I was.

Raining hard, winds are up, looks like a lake around the house..hopefully WMD will help dry things out..if not then guess I will have a flood.

Off to take quick bath to warm me up then Chinese..bought enough to feed us all, guess we shall have left overs

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Congratulations BESSIE MARIE ALICE PAUZE!!!!! I know you have wanted this done for quite a while. I'm glad it finally all came together for you. I'll have a drink for you. How about a Kaluha "Sombrero????

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mouth watering..yes, nice to have my name back

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

YAY! Judy and I are celebrating for you, Bessie Marie Alice Pauze!! Judy with beer in hand! 😃

Oh, Marilyn, so sorry you have more snow. We left Gatlinburg this morning in a light but mostly warm drizzle. Hair got all curly! 😪 however when we pulled in the driveway it was windy and 44*, geez! how does a body know what to do?

Karen, hope you're over the crud. Sorry you had to miss the gathering, but certainly understood.

Love the pictures of the grands. Austin looks like he could be a good teaser! Granddaughter is lovely. Hope Lorna is doing better with her leg. Hope Gordon didn't get stuck out!

Barb, congratulations on getting out a bit! I'm sure you felt like someone had unshackled you! Sounds like you had fun. Good for you!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you all had a great time.

I feel better but still have the wobblies when I try too much.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

thanks for the extra info on c.diff. what we don't understand is how she got it??? and if it is so contagious?? should Dil be doing something special to keep Malena from getting it?? she may have been told something on this?? and not said anything to us.

they gave her something for gas discomfort, same meds used for colicky babies?? and changed her diet. said no fruit. no dairy. only plain bland things. baby cereal, toast with nothing on it etc etc.

very annoying to be here and have to work, and not be able to go help. sick baby, Momma supposed to be on crutches, and staying off her foot as much as possible !!

Barb, glad you were able to get out ^_^
Bessie, congrats on the name !!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

"M". Shaking my finger at you, asked you not to send me the snow, storm brewing here.
Joyce, hope you and Judy don't have a hangover this morning after celebrating for me. Lol, am sure you had a great time, just too bad more of the sistah's couldn't make it.

LindaKay will be fabric store shopping today, lucky her.

Karen, hope the wobbles are gone, been a hard week for you.

Thunder, know you are torn about not being able to be with the girls..great info on c-dif the girls gaven hope DIL gets the answered to those questions, when dealing with health issues I'm brain-dead,takes all my time to say which side my heart is. Is Ryleigh gaining strength?

Rita has coffee made, seems we both have been up good part ofthe night, guess its time to be productive

What are you all up to?

Barb will be celebrating her daughter's birthday..barb hope you aren't getting this snow

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning.
We got a heavy rain storm during the night but NO snow. The roads are wet but not slick. Temp is about 37 now.
Norm has been fighting a bug for about a week now and after reading the info on c-diff, I'm getting worried. He was up half the night with nausea and diarrhea and gas. I want to ask him to get checked before we go anywhere. And what does he drink all the time? Milk of course. He is back in bed now for as he puts it "a bit of a nap" before he starts his day. I gave him the URL to the info and he said he will look at it later. I was going to read it to him but he said not now. Boy, he can be stubborn sometimes. Sending prayers for Ryleigh and hoping Malena is not getting it too

I am still hoping to go to Stacy's today. I haven't seen either she or Brandon since their trip to visit colleges last weekend and I'm so curious to hear all bout them.

Hope you are better too Karen. I wouldn't go anywhere with the wobblies either.

Glad the girls had a good time on their gathering. And glad they are all home safely.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day ~~~~~

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, Betty, we didn't celebrate THAT much!! LOL!

I'm off to clean house in a bit (need to replace all that money I spent!!) Judy gets to stay here and relax. Then when I get back, we will hit some local nurseries.

Betty, how is Rita's house situation?

Best get moving.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It's a strange crud. Amelia got it first last Sat. through the night and was still upchucking and having the runs all the next day for the ride home. Hubby was next then me. The worst seems over but Amelia still has runs and no appetite. I always have runs so can't tell there but feel queasy and not much appetite either. I have to eat because of my diabetic meds, but forcing it. I don't really feel sick, I just don't feel good. Tried sewing yesterday and was so wobbly I gave it up.

I'm just soooo glad we didn't go on to TN. Can't imagine travelling all that way with a sick baby let alone feeling sick too. I'd have felt terrible to have taken it to the grands and greats down there and the Sistahs too.

At least DGS and his wife didn't seem to get it. Just wish this would go away.

Victoria Harbour, ON

And here I thought you would do a good job celebrating for me.

Actually Melanie just dropped in, Rita and I were sewing downstairs but Melaie talked us into going to the liquidation center in Port and stop at Rita's..well she had all the walls taken down, changed the design, new electrical wiring. Small place but all she needs. Entire washroom being worked on, everything new and modern, excited for her, she feels she will move in if the construction workers keep to plan by months end..again, sorry to see her go!

Karen, wise decision to stay home and look after you..everyone getting it here has it for weeks on end then it starts up again

Oops back in a bit, girls want to go

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hokey doodle, lots of bubbling bellies and diarrhea happening ..
With C Difficile .. we always gloved to change a patient who had had a BM (usually always diarrhea) the 'bug' is in the poo .. sorry to be blunt, but, if I were to use nursing lingo you'd be like ??
Actually the bugs fight in the gut (causes gas)
This C DIFF war has been going on since the introduction 10+ years ago of the MEGA ANTIBIOTICS .. yep, they work on what their supposed to work on, BUT, they also KILL good bacteria that we need to prevent, DIARRHEA!!
My most fervent thoughts for all of you having tummy tumbles ..

Betty, I TRIED to stop that snow, but, to NO avail .. I think you'll get rain though.
It is COLD here today !!
Was talking with my Crows (I swear if anyone saw me they'd call 911) told them to find out when SPRING was scheduled to fly in !
I must say though, the sun is blazing, and, if you're in it (like I am now) it's so nice ^_^

SO, I take it the 'gathering' was a success :-)
How many went? So jealous LoL

Karen, sorry to hear Amelia, you and your hubby are still unwell .. could you stomach Glucerna to keep your sugars ok?

Barb .. enjoy the Gymnastics and the family time .. and, the being OUT time, hope Norm feels better.

Hi to Katie and Susan and all the lurkers.

Have a great Saturday .., trying to get through the morning after the night before chemo pills, slow but sure ..

Went to one of my nursing websites and looked for some info re C Diff ..
Pretty easy to understand this exerpt ..

General Information about C. difficile

Clostridium difficile [klo–strid–ee–um dif–uh–seel] (C. difficile) is a bacterium that causes inflammation of the colon, known as colitis.

People who have other illnesses or conditions requiring prolonged use of antibiotics, and the elderly, are at greater risk of acquiring this disease. The bacteria are found in the feces. People can become infected if they touch items or surfaces that are contaminated with feces and then touch their mouth or mucous membranes. Healthcare workers can spread the bacteria to patients or contaminate surfaces through hand contact.

For more images of this bacterium, search the Public Health Image Library.

Symptoms of C. difficile

Symptoms include:
•Watery diarrhea (at least three bowel movements per day for two or more days)
•Fever
•Loss of appetite
•Nausea
•Abdominal pain/tenderness

Transmission of C. difficile

Clostridium difficile is shed in feces. Any surface, device, or material (e.g., toilets, bathing tubs, and electronic rectal thermometers) that becomes contaminated with feces may serve as a reservoir for the Clostridium difficile spores. Clostridium difficile spores are transferred to patients mainly via the hands of healthcare personnel who have touched a contaminated surface or item. Clostridium difficile can live for long periods on surfaces.

Treatment of C. difficile

In about one in four patients, Clostridium difficile infection will resolve within 2-3 days of discontinuing the antibiotic to which the patient was previously exposed. Clostridium difficile is generally treated for 10 days with antibiotics prescribed by your healthcare provider. The drugs are effective and appear to have few side-effects.

BOTTOM line .. good, thorough HAND WASHING ..

~M~

mulege, Mexico

Slept about twelve hours last night and this morning someone stuffed my head with cotton. For only the second time since I've known him, Tony had to remind me to pay him. I was so embarrassed. Oh, well, I'm not in pain so I promised Tony I wouldn't handle and power tools. Very strange but better than the painful, messy crud that many are getting.

I have a tub full of plants, many from Dana. Things that doo well here really tend to multiply. But no garden work for me today. I'm afraid I'd fall down.

Making tuna salad from local tuna. Yum.

Hope you are all doing well.

congrats, Bessie. Dealing with gov't is always a PITA. Glad you are finally successful.

Back to bed.

Fuzzy hugs, katie

"m" great info on c- dificile, scary isn't it

Off to see if I can sleep all night, here is hoping.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good Morning ...

Off to town to get a new battery for Lorna's truck. dang thing won't hold a charge :-(
I'll follow her in just in case .. DH will stay home as 'back up' LoL

Italian Society is having a SPAGHETTI take out from 2-5, so, that's supper .. don't know why, but the REAL ethnic spaghetti and sauce is amazing .
