Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends old/new
love the nickname Becka, Karen..how long will you stay to help? Bet they were relieved to have you there, the calming greatgrandma!
So glad Dianne you are able to post, a past time for you when bored with reading, always a lot of reading on the threads... have to mentally keep the pillow idea tucked away in my noggin', always good to have fall backs when meds don't work.
Bet the dogs have settled in as likely you've been been telling them of spring's arrival and all the long walks you will take with them.
"M" Toronto is being hit in some areas this morning, seems with Lake Ontario not being fully frozen and winds coming from the east areas are dealing with snow. Another multicar pile up on 400 yesterday, not due to weather but still..insurance companies aren't going to like it!
Dianne, Greg is a good boy, threatened him before he left that I'd be worried so in keeping with Mel telling him high blood pressure was BAD guess he figures updates will help calm me.
Headache much better, likely by weekend it will be gone..at least the past few days I've been able to move..yep, took my pill!
got 2 e-mails since last one from Greg
1) Teams 7,17,73 are no longer racing for 1st place at this moment..they are riding together as a support group should anything happen to them as not even the helicopter could land. Right now they are in 4,5,6th place but it changes all the time as teams stop for a rest.
2) they took a 4 hour layover in Natuashish last night and will be in Nain within the next hour if all goes well. They are travelling in -20 with 80KMP winds, it's very tough going and they are exhausted..guess changes in plans has played a part with their mental plan. They will now only have an 8 hour Manatory layover in Nain before heading back
will keep you posted
love Greg
Hard to believe they have out door races in weather like that!
yep, right now they say the safety of the last of the teams (believe on 12 left) are a major concern.
The cold temps are more than in all the other years and not quite sure how the ones still in the race are doing it
Race because of the weather is taking much longer than expected
Heart goes out to them, after pushing through storms and - weather to have to give up now..
they do have gps's and know from Greg having his if they are taking same route they can key 'return' and be within inches of where they travelled going.
they will be resting soon..thank God
support teams are stressed as they can't get to them for 'support'
chewing my nails
Do hope LindaKay they can give you meds for your cold, lordy you've had a time of it this winter haven't you.Likely between mild/hot/cold/freezing cold that is doing it.
for us northernerns, we adapt to C O L D as it never changes into the other categories
Susan, where are you??? Hope your mom, and Bob as well as your are ok and that's not the reason you've gone AWOL
Debbie, come out and wave, missing you.

Seems I just get over the crud, and a week or two later is comes back. I am going to urgent care just as soon as Todd goes back to work this afternoon.
Smart thing to do, maybe your immune is down and you need some pick me ups
I am surprised more of us aren't sick with this weather being what it has been. Florida is in for some really severe weather today...it is further south of us but we are having heavy downpours.
Stay safe Marion..will call Darlene tonight and see how she is doing.
Not nice but may it continue to use up its rain so I have sunshine!!!! me bad
how are you feeling???
AWE, they are so precious!
Barb, those blankets are adorable!
Awe, know a few who will be crying/smilling and appreciating your generosity Barb..
She so enjoyed spending time with you and Norm..
Maybe this summer when things are warmer we just might pass your house on one of our journeys and will drop in for tea..she can then bring a photo album, you know how grandma's are.
Just finished another top..looking in my bag of goodies to see if I've enough to do another...
must put another roll of batting on my list of needs when I go to Joann's..luckily got me some USA funds for my birthday that said Joann's Fabric purchases ONLY..lol
Oh how wonderful that would be Betty. Both Norm and I would love to see the two of you. We so enjoyed our visit with Ann as well and we thank you both every time we look at our wonderful ornaments. (And all year too - not just Christmas time!!)
I am doing well Betty. I was supposed to go to my sister's today but because of the severe weather I stayed home. She has had an extremely bad reaction to the meds given to her for depression and anti inflammatory for the pinched nerves. She had to be taken to the ER for several hours yesterday, so I am going down to be with her until they can get the meds adjusted.
One never knows Barb when we will take a drive
How many hours did it take you?
We are always looking for something to do on a long weekend.
Marion, prayers for your sister..you are a good sister taking time while yu are Newell to make sure her needs are met..who knows you may be there while I'm there??
Gosh oh me, are those twins just the sweetest!
Between them and baby Rebecca I have had a smile happening all day !
Barb, the baby carriage coverlettes look so beautiful ! You're a sweetie for making them ..
Marion, so sorry to hear about your sister .. hopefully better days are ahead for her.
Have friends in Venice City that are looking at some bad weather ..
LindaK . hope you feel better sooner as opposed to later ..
Re Lorna's leg .. so disappointing .. can't imagine the leg costing $70,000. simply because of a micro chip .. but, the prosthetist is going to submit the request as well as 2 other requests for legs costing a bit less, one is $45,000. and the other $30,000.
Best go get the fish and chips ready to cook ..
Take care everyone
Say.. where IS Susan ?
~M~
I'm at home for now Betty, Dr. wanted me to come in on Mon and to have blood work tomorrow first. Have appt. with Eye surgeon on Tues. Then hoping to go back down.
Am sure you are anxious Karen..know I would be! Hope appts have good results so you can go.
Cold but a sunshine day today..saw in Elmvale they have baseball sign-up Saturday..now that has to be a sign of spring.
Just checked Cains Quest, numbers are dwindling but team 7 still trying..new route posted, let's hope
The most minuscule of headache exists, likely I'll be back to myself come weekend.
Not much planned for the weekend other than gettin my hair cut, nothing too strenuous.
How about you all, something special in the offing?
Lordy, called to book airport service for the 21st. $90' seems expensive but guess at the price of gas it's better than driving to airport myself.
Putting spaghetti on, didn't do it yesterday, hot bath and we shall see how I feel afterwards..would be nice to quilt a little piece so I have something to sit and hand sew.
I got tickled when we were in the waiting room. There was a family waiting for the first grand on both sides. Grandma to be asked me how many I had, told her 15 grands and waiting on # 10 great. From then on she called me grandma of many. They got their boy and were of course thrilled. When I saw her in the hall later, she asked about ours. When I explained she just gave me a hug. Imagine comfort from a stranger and I never knew her name.
Sometimes it's from strangers we get the biggest hugs..nice to know the majority of the world still cares.
How is the fish and chips "m".
Still thinking of Lorna and the $70.. Wonder what fund raising would have to happen to raise that much?
Katie, is Tony working you to death?
Sure wish Mary, Bev and Shirley would drop in for a quick chat..
There must organizations of some kind to help with prosthesis costs. That amount is so far out of sight for so many who would need it. I would gladly contribute for something like that. It seems extremely unfair how these things are given out. Can Lorna dance at all? Maybe we can start a para Dancing with the Stars with the stars being those with prosthetics....
Omg wouldn't that be a fund raiser
http://mobilitybasics.ca/canfund. I googled financial aide for prosthetic limbs in Canada. This is one that came up....
I am back from urgent care. I still have bronchitis, sinus infection and two ear infections. I came home with 5 new meds.
Wow LindaKay, off to bed you go! Ear infections are no fun, puts your equilibrium out..
I guess Linda, go bury yourself under the covers until this lets go of you. Gotta be feeling just miserable. ((((((((Hugs)))))))
Gosh Linda, I am sending HUGE prayers that you get well quickly. Bed sounds like the best place to be right now!!!
Morning all,
See you are up for coffee with me barb, sure hope the other are sleeping in.
Greg emailed me, was withoutwifi yesterday, can you imagine living in such a,remote, area. He has 650kl drive today, team is still in,..let's hope they come across the finish line tomorrow. Not sure what I'll do with my sleepless nights not having them to check up on, hmm maybe that is the reason I'm up all night. Lol
No plans for,the weekend other than going to town this afternoonfor groceries and hair cut tomorrow moring, nothing exciting
It's march break, can imagine just how busy the airport will be but then heard tractor trailer has rolled at exit of major entrance to airport, will be many missing flights.
Morning everyone. I am up, but will be taking a nap for sure today! Sure hope the meds start working soon!
Betty, don't forget your pills today.
Just finished breakfast and doing my nebulizer machine. Lousy way to tie up an hour every morning and every night!!!! Now I'm off to the quilt room and I'll take a picture of Alex's finished coverlet then. Need to wait for good light.
Glad to hear Greg and the team are hanging in there. Been watching and I have no idea how they do it or what could possibly possess them to do it!!!! Can you tell I don't do the cold well at all!!! LOL
Norm took me for a haircut yesterday and I was out of the house for a whole hour and a half!!! Now my head is all stuffed up. Don't know how that could happen as I was the only one at the hairdresser's and she was not and had not been sick.....Got to pop an anti histamine and clear this out or there will be no sewing today. I don't function well when my head is stuffed up and my nose is running!!!!!
Take your mucinex Barb. One of my meds was Mucinex E from the Dr.
Hi everyone ^_^
Many thanks for the site LindaK, I have sent it along to Lorna and she'll poke around it to see what she can see ..
I sure hope your meds DO kick in, usually 48 hours, naps are always nice, I find them a challenge as our Westies BARK at the wind LoL, there's a noise, and they are ON IT!
So.. it's a rare occurence here ..
Many of the Service clubs have find raisers, but, they usually revolve around children .. we'll keep pluggin away .. just so difficult to know and have seen how hard Lorna has worked over the last 4 years to make her life WORK with a prosthetic limb, and, now to find out the best one is out of reach, well, big gulp .. she is not letting it bother her, right now she is out plowing the 3" of snow we got, and, she is smiling ear to ear ... she ALWAYS tries to keep a POSITIVE attitude .. she really is amazing, AND, yes, she can dance ^_^
Horrible news re the tractor trailer accident Betty .. folks wanting to get into Pearson will be frantic .. hope there were no injuries..
Off to coffee at Timmies with Jo-Anne this morning, I best get at my hair! Washed it before bed, not something I do , and, right now I look about ready to mount my BROOM and fly out the kitchen window !!!
Gonna be almost 50F here on Monday .. YAYAYYAYA ...
Toodles
~M~
I've been getting up early the last few days - between 4 and 6 - as I find that allows me to be mobile enough to work with Tony for an hour or two. I usually then fall sound asleep in the afternoon and still sleep all night but it beats having trouble doing anything but lie in bed and watch TV. Pain sucks. Depression sucks. Pain and depression together double suck. I perservere - like the rest of you.
I have aloes and sunflowers blooming. Jasmine started yesterday. Love the fragrance.
Got most of the aloes in on the gravel hillside. Already looks good. In a year or two it will stop traffic. And hummingbirds.
Love the baby pictures. So happy about the twins.
I've found that working outside is the best therapy for me right now so I grab my clippers or shovel and find something to do.
We dug up two big clumps of vetiver and are separating them into starts. It is great for erosion control. Check out the root system of a 2yr old plant at www.herbcottage.com. Tony cut back the clumps before we dug them up and took the grass to his parents rancho where the cows loved it. After years of trying new plants and failing with so many we are both thrilled to have a "hit." The clumps are providing enough starts for here, the rancho, his house and anyone else who might want some.
The vetiver needs little water and has low nutritional needs. Helps prevent erosion and is good animal food. And the roots are used for perfume. It doesn't set seed but spreads in offsets ( I think that's the right term). If a rain storm washes down dirt that covers the plant it comes up through the dirt and keeps growing. It is frost tender so I can't send some to all of you or I would.
I've been reading about grafting and layering. Maybe we can increase the number of fruit trees. We have one great tangerine.
I'm off to get dressed and ready for when Tony gets here.
hugs, katie
Marion, I've been meaning to tell you I am praying for Sue. Such a hard time right now.
Aw, the baby twins look adorable. So happy to see that smile! Glad your headache is getting better, Betty.
Speaking of adorable, the crocheted covers are wonderful, Barb. So very thoughtful of you!
I've been sicker than a dog. Weak as a kitten, mmmmm let's see any other critters I can throw in to say how sick I've been?
Sorry about you being sick Joyce. Sure hope it ends quickly!!!! Thanks for the kind words regarding the coverlets. They sure are special little ones....
How is Sue doing Marion? Did you travel down there today?
Back from town, drats forgot my milk in the cart, teach me from rushing!
Greg just updated me
We are just waiting for Kirk/ Dave to wake up, they are on the clock at 8:00pm, need to change all their shocks before leaving (all shocks are broken). Then it's roughly 12 hours to finish line!!!! We will be up all night driving and supplying gas to them along the way. When we get to Esger, Brent and I will again drop the sleds and go into the bush to drop fuel again. And due to timing, I will probably not see them cross finish line. But it's all part of racing
Bet they all will be glad when it's over..they gave team 5 an extra hour seeing someone's machine was partly under water and they stayed to help, shows you how many it's not for the win but for self , seeing if try and machine can make it.
Joyce, been fine last two days, just a slight headache, wouldn't you know just rushing about last few hours and can barely hold my head up..town was a must, needed plate license, been looking for mt drivers permit, couldn't find it for a few weeks so paid for another, thought I ought to do that seeing as I'll need to drive from Florida to home in a few weeks, don't wZnt to end up in the clink
Sorry Joyce your under the weather.meant to comment the other day on your work of art..bet it was a fun project.
Katie, will there ever be a time when you don't have to work so hard? Saw a show on our garden show being held in Toronto his weekend, one of the garden centers were promoting fruit trees..they had one no higher than 3 feet high and said they would get a good crop..amazing!
Off to check the link you provided. Is there a reason you are more prone to depression at this time??
Think Marion said its about a 3-4 hr drive to Sue's..doubt Kim would go with her seeing she wants to stay a bit.
Morning all,
Could have said that at 2 am
Rita got home last night up she was as well, tried to go back to sleep but we chatted with each other better part of the night after making our respective checks on cains quest..
Leading team' Team 00 who had quite the lead on other just scratched, how sad is that, after enduring those temps, the terrain and are now out.
News bulletin said the remaining 8 teams are having problems, been a long hazardous 7 day voyage so the wait goes on..am you will all be glad to not hear about cains quest chat anymore
We are very happy that you kept us informed along the way - especially for those of us who have met Greg. Thanks Betty.
