Sweet Interruptions # 279

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sis, we might be needing thick coats in April.. from the look of things :(

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well Kim and I have gone to in April and encountered snow. We were going the route over the Smokies but it was closed because of the snow...on to cross over at Maggie Valley only to find it was also closed because of snow. Guess I had better keep my red flannels out for a while.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

We had an unexpected snowfall in April too, one year, Marion. That wasn't fun.. and we went straight into a very long hot summer!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Judy - happy Belated birthday lol
Hope it was a great one!!!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I just wish I could send some of our weather to all of you. It is 77 now and supposed to go up to the low 80's. I felt I wanted to work outside, but found out being in the sun was just too much. Doesn't look like we will be getting any real winter this year. I'm trying to be very careful about falling down. I swear my big feet get in the way. A friend in Texas who travels a lot fell in their motel room in Georgia, broke her left wrist and fractured her pelvis in 3 places. She had the wrist taken care of but wanted to be back home for the rest. Staff at hospital were in awe of her traveling home from Georgia when she was in so much pain. I'm moving slower these days so I don't end up like she did.

A friend was throwing away very large pickle jars and I decided I could use a few. I am spray painting the lids and will use them for things like pasta, etc. Even with latax gloves on I still manage to get paint on myself.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying you don't lose power!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Me too! Thanks Linda.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

So Barb, are you getting the snow or the ice. Please stay safe and warm!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

We have about 6 " of snow on the ground and it is turning to sleet. Then supposed to go back to snow around 10 PM and then snow the rest of the night. So it will be ice on the bottom from before, then today's snow, tonight's ice and then more snow!!! Fun!!!!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

You are planning on staying in tomorrow RIGHT?????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hope you have some salt or sand for your sidewalk.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I got POWER!!!!!
Thanks for the prayers!! God, let there be uninterrupted power for Barb please.
It was an epic ice storm, and one death in this county.
Yep, that serious.
I will have to settle down and tell all about it tomorrow. There are still people with no heat nor lights nor water.

Thanks Sistahs.. for your prayers.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

YEAH! Jaye is back!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Glad you are back Jaye.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

so happy to see you Jaye. Glad it didn't last any longer than it did.
We are still in the snow zone again with some sleet mixed in as well. Norm has to go to work today but if the reports of road conditions are correct, he won't be out long. It is really pretty to look at though. The ice on the trees is now snow covered and the branches look three times fatter than what they are. Makes for a pretty lacy show.....
I don't need to worry about snow or ice melt here. It is a complex and all that is done for us.
I'm thankful that I don't need to go out. They even move my car for me prior to plowing as it is such a hazard for me to go outside in this cold. Temps are in the low 20s here.

Happy Valentine's day everyone!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Love to all my Valentines sistah's. It is going to be 83 today, just can't believe the warm winter we are having. I would be happy to send it to all of you. Looking at some beautiful winter pictures from Wisconsin. Just amazing!! Hope spring comes soon to all of you.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Happy Valentine's Day sistahs! Much love and adoration from me and Kel and Lola and Hambone and all the furkitties.

Yes, I thank God that we're okay for now.
The lights went out aound 2 in the afternoon on Wednesday. The rest of the day right into the night, loud sounds of branches breaking filled the air. We knew the cats were safe, seeking shelter in Kel's workshop, as their communal food bowl isn't touched on the back porch.

We didn't have heat, as the gasman didn't replace our gas tank which they took with 50 gallons of gas left, a couple of months back supposedly to replace it with a 100 gallon tank. That's Kel's fault, as he failed to remind them or maybe since the owner's his buddy.. he's in no hurry?

So, with the electricity gone, only way to warm up was with layers of clothing!
The inside cats formed their own tropical island!
As for lights, thank God, I collect hurricane lamps. Lit up two in the bedroom, one for the kitchen, and Sis Kathy, your lamp oil came in handy!

Thank God too, the town across the border isn't affected. So, breakfast and hot meals were taken at Wendy's.
Since our water's from the well, no water. MIL has city water, we get our water from her and no sistahs.. I use the 'loo' at Wendy's!!

All that time that we had been assured that since we are on the same grid with the prison, our power will be returned first? Wrong. The prison's power and all houses on the same side of the prison had power returned around 10 that evening!
We are just across from them, but unfortunately, wasn't attended to till much later yesterday.
Kel's OCD went into overdrive. Relentless calls were made. He has a good friend high up in Brunswick Electric who couldn't understand why we still didn't have power.
Kel told him that our line is the only one that has this "Monkey" safety guard installed and had to be released manually each time we lose power!
So.. guess what.. yep.. one was sent to do so hours later.

As much as I get angry with Kel with his OCD, good thing he checked on the sick and elderly neighbours. There was one who's on some kind of a heart support requiring electricity. That guy checked into a motel at the border town.

As I said, this was an epic ice storm.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Barb, it's a blessing that you moved into that apartment complex.

Pegi, the way the weather's acting, I won't be surprise if we go straight into summer.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you got your power back.

It is 72 right now, and supposed to reach 85 today!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You're heading for summer, LK!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Looks like it.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Yea so glad you have power back!!!! Winter and powerless do not mix. Knock on wood we have not lost power in so long. Have a great weekend all. Happy valentines all.

Maybe i have my priorities a bit different then others.
when there is a storm to come. People run and get bread, milk and eggs ... right ? well i can't understand that ??? .... stuck home inside with kids .... i go to the store and stock up on Wine, chocolate , Night Time cough medicine and toilet paper....... am i wrong ?
glad everyone is doing ok
Jaye glad you got your power on. Kel is a good man to go check on your neighbors
more snow for us. cold too. but temps will come back next week .
Tim sent me flowers for VDay...... Fed Ex man didn't drive down the driveway so he left them out in the driveway out in the snow LOL. Every year i tell him please don't give me flowers. I would like a plant. Every year i get flowers...... . Good thing i went and got my own VDay present . I got some nice earrings . I may go back for the matching bracelet.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi ladies - I'm still here.......

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning sistahs,
Hope you all have had a happy Valentine's Day.

I had already picked my Valentine gift weeks ago, getting that Asian print jelly roll!

Wondering what my sistahs got.

Yes grab that bracelet, Susan. Can't believe that Tim kept on giving you roses when you had specifically said, plants only. Sounds like my BIL who insisted in giving his wife flowers when she demanded jewelry! But he's a tightwad.. rather sit on his millions then spend on his wife and mother.

You're right, rather stock up on wine and chocos.. the dark kind!! The funny thing about bread.. we were at Dollar General and in walk a breadman asking the manager whether she has bread to spare!! It was funny as the shelves were bare!! Breadman said that he need them for a certain local restaurant as he had exhausted his supply with so many on his route were out!
We didn't have any but that's okay as I had some hot dog buns!

Susan, I'm glad you checked in. Your words may be few, but it's letting us know you're around. You are important to me.

We're blessed that we didn't lose any food. I placed all in a box and left it out in the ice. Thank God for a frozen turkey that helped too.
MIL refused to do what I did, and just threw away her food. I don't have the $$$ to replace them!

LK, I guess you will be the first one to have the ac on! Wonder if Marion's experiencing semi summer now?

Pegi, I want your weather!

Sistahs..Kathy.. Ronna.. Karen.. Barb... Susan.. Cookie.. Sue.. the snow ain't over yet.. Please stay warm.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

I got a new computer desk, and we went out to lunch.
snow is done here for awhile, gonna be in the 70's.
PRAISE THE LORD!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Jaye!

No AC here, we just opened the windows and enjoyed the warmth!

Todd brought home a nice box of turtles chocolate with sea salt! They were yummy, then we went and had asian food for dinner. I had lemon chicken, he had beef thai sticks. crab rangoon, and steamed dumplings for appetizers.

No cut flowers here. I always tell him the flowers must have roots attached!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oooooh I love crab rangoon, One thing I will always over indulge in if it's good.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Did you get a new pc too, Sis Kathy? IT's in the high 50s here. Supposed to go up to the 60s, but the rains are keeping the temps down.

I have never tried choco with salt. Red chillies yes, but not salt. LK, think I'll find some today!
Kel wants Chinese for lunch, but that's gonna be buffet style, today.
We never pick the same food. I'll be grabbing fish and veges, and he'd go for anything deep friend and then soaked in sauce!!
The buffet prices are very inexpensive for having 5 islands! Seven per person. Cheaper than cooking at home.
The evening prices are a dollar more, as there'd be shrimps and crab legs included.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye have you ever had chocolate covered popcorn or potato chips!??? They multiplies the flavor of the chocolate!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Karen, I'd bring some Crab Rangoon home in those to go ice tea cups. The waitress is aware of course!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good Lord LK!!! No!!!
I'll look for them too, remember, I live in the boondocks!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just put some chocolate and chips in your mouth at the same time. Yum!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Had the absolute best Rangoon at a buffet in Oak Ridge, TN could literally eat myself sick on those they were so extra good.
