Sweet Interruptions # 277
Ooooh loves my Magnalite, that stuff lasts for ever.
I think so too, LK. Mr. Kel has to agree even though it's me that do most of the cooking.
I've been cooking with Magnalites since I came to the States, Karen. Left my set behind, and Kel bought me a new set. Unlike the old ones, these lids have wooden knobs that unscrew easily, and they're made in China! The weight through time, had been hard on my wrists and a greater chore to clean.
My ex' DS took away her mum's Magnalites due to the same reason and she bought her a set of those Teflon pots. Ex late mum was miserable cooking with them. But her hands didn't suffer.
So I was thinking of good stainless steel as Teflon coating doesn't last long.
I'll just leave my Magnalites to Kel. Hmm.. maybe one day he'll cook a gumbo in one!!
I even have one was my grandmothers. It's what I got my daughters when they married.
Good morning from Tabor City, North Carolina. Temp is at 60 and the sun has lifted up the gray early clouds.
Sharing this warmth with my sistahs that need it.
Karen, that's the best gift you could give a new bride.
Back in Cajun country, it's a tradition for grandmas to get their grandaughters' a set of Magnalite for their weddings. If their mothers didn't do so.
My late ex' MIL would just give their mothers money to buy them for her. And as you know, they already cost a pretty penny more than 30 years ago.
These cast aluminum ware, retain and evenly distribute heat well sistahs. For someone you really really really like, they make ideal gifts for the serious cooks. Though a tad expensive, they're much more affordable than those Creusets.
Susan, I hope you have a good visit with your mum again.
Have a beautiful Sunday sistahs. Gonna drag sleeping beauty to the stores.
Magnalite was basically all I knew, My mother and grandmother had it.
Wish we had temps like that Jaye. Hoping to get the truck loaded today and get on the road early tomorrow. Difficult to light a fire under kids these days. They have no sense of urgency about getting things done.
Lol Karen!! I'm still trying to wake up sleeping beauty!! And he's almost 50!
But I understand your situation. They have a limited time to get out of the house. And you need to take advantage of favorable weather to be on the roads.
Good luck Karen!
I had no idea what Mangalite was so I googled it. Then I went to ebay to see the vintage pieces. Wow. What a difference between the new and old pieces.
I have a set of Revere with copper clad bottoms that I've had all my married life. It's the only thing I use besides my Cuisinart stainless skillet or saute pan and a small enamelware skillet. And when I want real cornbread, it's always my cast iron skillet or cast iron cornstick pan.
I eliminated all my aluminum cookware in an aluminum "purge" a long time ago. :)
James Franklin has gone to Penn State but left a great legacy. Who will be the new Vandy head coach? Mike Munchak fired as Titans head coach but will no doubt land on his feet. So they need a new head coach as well. Changes, changes. Gee, I finally had something to say about football.
If you want to try one, I recommend an oval one LK. Great roaster too,
Carole, I have a Cuisinart stock pot. Was looking at a set the other day, and decided against it, as the price was over my budget.
James Franklin will do well at Penn State. I do hope Vandy puts out the money to get Mason out of Stanford? His defense will be a solid fit. Or perhaps, they should consider hiring an ex NFL coach?
As for Titans,...... hmm......... good luck with that!
Three cheers for Carole and her football notes!
Sorry your not doing well Sue, have another cuppa!
I believe the first one is called Grandmas garden?
I don't know the name for the 2nd one.
Are these your quilts?
Been gone for a day or two. But am happy to see you all are doingso good. Susan you must be so happy with how you mom is doing. Good for her. Love those quilts. Very beautiful, do you use them regularly? I think I would be scared too. I have always wanted one. But could never afford one. Have bought many raffle tickets for them. Lol. Man all this talk of pots and pans. I have never heard the magnalite eother will have to do like Linda and google them. Learn something new everyday. The sun is showing its beautiful face today. Been awhile very gloomy for the past few days. But it is still cold. Rained very hard here a couple days ago. Lost a lot of snow. But I am sure we will get some more. Dont you worrry. Lol. Yes Jaye we are jealous of your good fortune to live in a warm climate state. Only wishing!!! Have a good Sunday I am going to go to the mall with my pregnant daughter then to my parents house to see my otherdaughter and son in law. For dinner. We all invited ourselves over. She loves it. See ya on the flip side. Ronna
Sue, sorry your having a yukkey day....withdrawal? ;o)
Thanks, Linda, I think that's it. 'Grandmother's Garden' rings a bell in the old brain. I hope I'm able to ID the other one as well.
Yes, Ronna, they are my quilts and I do use them regularly. The Grandma's Garden was a wedding present. My grandmother cut all the pieces for the quilt but due to arthritis in her hands, she had it pieced and finished by someone else in town. I do treasure it.
We are going to be in the 70's again today. Nice weather, but don't know why we aren't getting the rain we need so much. I've been jumping from one job to the next and getting nothing done. Can't seem to stay with one thing until I finish it.
Going to google and see what mangalite is all about. Never heard of that either. I have some off pieces of revere ware and since I'm not crazy about cooking I'm not in the market for any new ones. Had to give up on my cast iron fry pans as they are so heavy. I do have a nice stainless steel Faberware wok DH bought me so many years ago and I really don't use it much..
Glad to hear your mom is doing so well, Susan. Well, off to try and get DH to eat. Yep, last chemo treatment zapped him again. Looks like I better get in another supply of soup for him. He only wants chicken noodle.
Those are quilts to be cherished for sure.
There is a sewing thread, post your pictures there, and see if anyone can help you?

Thanks again, Linda. I did. :)
Cast iron can certainly get heavy, Pegi. That's for sure.
I did go to my Jai Ma yoga and i m so glad i did. It was awesome ! all i can say is wow !!! . Talk about a spiritual awakening. I felt so good.
Haven't felt this good in a looong time. I feel as if i can get my life back on track , off of this crazy mid life crisis thing.
Brain, body and soul is back together again or at least reconnecting, rekindling . Not rehashing past, but living for future .
The light at the tunnel may hit my fat a$$ ......its about time LOL
oh pretty quilts ! i love the colors.
Cookie did we plan on wends ?
No. You said next week. I have a house to clean We'd and Thursday. I'm helping take decorations down at Hueston Woods tomorrow, so I can do Tuesday or Friday.
Yes I would charish those beauties too. So neat and lots of work I am sure. Do not know how those little squares and triangles all fit together. Patients, I am sure.
I love those quilts Carole. Grandma's Garden will be painstakingly arduous for me, having to hand sew hexagons. The other one must be one of a kind design, as I don't see it anywhere. And I love your Grandma's crazy quilt too.
Ronna, you could turn simple squares into a quilt. That won't be frustrating for a first time quilter. The wonderful thing about DG, there are so many kind quilters that are willing to offer advice including Barb, Karen, Marion, and LK.
So how many grandkids do you have?
Sue, I'm happy you found your 'chakra'. My sister and I were into yoga back in Singapore. She still does yoga in France, while I quit when I came here.
It's important you find your balance when the world isn't 'co operating' with you.
If nothing else works, grab a bottle of wine and share that with Cookie!
Pegi, I left behing my black cast iron pots and pans. Can you imagine I had bought them in Singapore and had them shipped here? Anyway, I quit using them when I was introduced to Magnalite. The Magnalites are a tad lighter.
Chicken soup is good for the soul, they say. So you're satisfying Darwin's insides besides his stomach!
Did go to WM, didn't find anything that I would like to have. Kel pointed to a Calphalon set (3 ply stainless) but I don't know whether it's worth it, at $200!!!
Lolol!! It's not the cost of the pots that makes a cook, good!!
Couldn't find second hand stainless steel at the thrift stores. In the meantime, I'll keep using the Magnalites and let Kel do the cleaning up!!
Truth is, I'm still hesitant to buy from eBay.
Look at this easy to do cat quilt, using charm packs. Maybe LK, you'd do one!

i found a place that teaches sewing in Beaver Creek . i can bring my machine and get a private lesson $25. Pretty good deal . Other places are more and you have to sew the project they have.
I want to sew a blanket for a gift. hoping i can get it done within a 5- 8 lessons .?
good night ladies
hello everyone - thank you for your thoughtful prayers, etc
I spent the night with Mom. She had a very fitful night - had to have morphine for pain. Alice says it's "phantom pain". Anyway, I sang her to restfulness, and rubbed her back, forehead and stroked her hair. She calmed down then (she had been hallucinating). I think I got about 3 1/2 hours of broken sleep.
The hospital was sweet - the "overnight stay" was a last minute decision when I found out that I could stay. They provided me with my meds (for epilepsy), and a cot next to Mom's bed.
This morning she woke up very slowly...... then ate breakfast, then went back to sleep.
When Alice came by, I caught a ride home with her husband (to my daughter's that is).
I then had a 2 hour nap, then dinner.
Heading back tomorrow - should arrive at 10am, then leaving at 4pm to meet a friend, then back to Michelle's for dinner.
I go back home Tuesday am.
Love that pattern Jaye.
btw - re: my mom
I asked the nurse about how she's doing and she said that usually a person in mom's condition has a great day, then it's all downhill from there, BUT Mom had 2 great days in a row. She said Mom's spunky, so they really don't know.
Julie has the bird feeder swap open, come and check it out!

Susan sounds like you had a great time with your mom. So sad. You have been a busy lady remember to take care of yourself also. Sounds like lots of family are rallying around you all. Bless you.
Good morning sistahs!
Susan, that's wonderful that the nurse gave you your needed meds. And much more wonderful that you could stay overnight. You are a filial daughter, for sure.
May today brings another good day with your mum.
Hospital or nursing home visits are always filled with trepidations.. but the Lord is always with us. Rest in Him.
Sue, that's great if such a class is offered. It will be worth the money! You got to start somewhere!! Pillow cases next?
You're up early Ronna?
Pain returns to my mouth. Dental procedure Thursday and till then, double painkillers. Yes, cleaning the house when sleep evades me.
Hope my sistahs have a lovely week!
Glad to hear you had quality time with your Mom Susan. It is and will be treasure for you. God bless and safe travels.
That quality time with your mom is priceless, Susan. What a gift for you.
I know you'll be glad to get that dental work done, Jaye, even though dental work is dental work. :(
I used to buy and sell quite a bit on eBay but not recently. It went very well then but there's always that chance. The ratings for the sellers sort of help ease the anxiety. At least most of the time.
Just be careful with the aluminum, ya'll. I'd be remiss if I didn't say something.
