39 outside. 62 inside. Wearing our warm jeans. Sweat shirts. Using space heaters. Our heating systems here are not capable of keeping up with this kind of cold. We shall survive.

Hugs to you Betty, sure wish I could give you one in person.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Lordy Thunder that is cold for you..might be a loss of orange crops.

Judy, just saying on news here about storm in your neighborhood, sure hope Steve made it home without mishap.

"M" thoughts and prayers are with you, know it will be an emotional day for you going to Jewell's funeral

It's another winter squall day so no going out.

Spent last 3 days laying on the couch, every bone aching from laziness so today I will try to do some cleaning and maybe even spend time in the craft room

So what are you all up to now that Christmas is behind you?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I am starting the same quilt along that Thunder is in. It is a stars quilt and I'm looking forward to it.
Since I can't go out at all and this apartment is so tiny, I have started on a walking regimen to try to 1-lose some weight an 2-get some exercise. So twice a day I walk up and down the halls here with my walker. I have also gotten so slack about sitting around in my jammies. So I now have to get dressed so I can walk in the halls!!! And I have promised myself I will do some kind of handwork every day. I have a daily calendar on my desk and each day gets a d-w-c. It will be interesting at the end of the month to see if I have made any gains.......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am working on the fat cat quilt. Top is almost done, just need to stitch the whiskers in place, and sew buttons in place. Then sandwich it together.

No need to mention the weather, when you think -20 is a GOOD thing, well you'tr pretty much done for.

Barb, best of luck with your plans, I think you'll do just fine ... good for you!

Linda the quilt is lovely, colourful and so cute !

Betty, yes, today is going to be a toughie, but, I'm sure everything will go just fine. Will be seeing lots of old friends and colleagues ... and, Patti has gained more self confidence and is 100% positive she can do the eulogy.
Am everso happy there is no graveside service, except for the family .. the wind is jut awful here.

Take care all

Oh barb Rita and I were saying the same, getting dressed is a must, for almost a month now on bad weather days, and there has been many iive been living in nightly..great that you've come up with a plan..might develop a plan as well

Ahhh LindaKay, love the fat cat ..smilling, they are so adorable. Hmmm maybe I could make one for Dar seeing she is quite the cat lover..will you meander through the cats?

Speaking of cats, dozed off, time to get up but not before I tell you my dream

" got up early and took a walk to Toronto, Riley came along to keep me company..as we walked around a garage Riley got frightened, told me the cat coming out of the shed was the one that tore him apart in another life..as we kept walking there were kids playing, Riley named each of them, walked over to play with them, mother came out, petted Riley and said how she looked like their kitty that had been killed by local cat"

Crazy what we dream! Lol

Up I go, bath and get dressed

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Your dream made me smile, Betty. Still keeping you and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

(((((Marilyn))))), good luck today.

Marion, you can do trees, bot it's mostly just shape doodling.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sending good thoughts to you for today M. I know how you must feel about the graveside services in that weather.

Betty and Barb, I too stay in my jammies on cold days. Just seems so cozy to do so but I have made myself get dressed and go out in the mornings to get our paper. We are still in the low 20s this morning but reportedly we are to see the low 50s before the days end. We shall see.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Marion that is cold, stay in your jammies..how's the dungeon coming, almost now the craft room of your dreams.

Got bathed and dressed and the sun came out, perhaps the storm has left my neck of the woods, sure do hope so!

Thank goodness for Rita, I did some cleaning and she is outside cleaning the vehicles and shovelling pathways so that once the municipal plows plow Andrew can come and do a clean-up.

Told Rita I'd so like to take a run to walmart this evening, starting to go stir crazy and besides there are a few things needed.

Joyce, know you've been buying 'pretty' lol outfits like I wear. Darlene went to a vendor next to where I purchase mine when I'm in Fort Myers and found me this pretty set..tops lovely

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I wish I could stay in my jammie but alas, I have some errands I need to take care of today. The winds have died down so it isn't as bad as it has been outside. Lots of limbs down but that is for another day.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Betty that is so pretty! When you go down to pick Dar up, would you pick one up for me in large? I LOVE that! Can't believe how much snow you have. It sure is pretty though....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty, I love that top too. Could you please tell me where you send for yours? And perhaps the label name?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now how did I know you'd want one Joyce..lol yes will do
Marion, will feel nice even though it's cold to get out of the house, you'll feel like you've just been let out of prison.

Rita was digging me out, finally took the fleece kits out of the car..I'd done one while the girls were shopping when I was in Buffalo, guess it's time to do the others.

Want to go to Walmart tonight begins they have plastic bins on sale, could use a few to pack up items that I make throughout the year for Christmas..might even look for those space bags, would minimize the bulk

might just get back to quilting, did a few turns..think it's calling my name

Tomorrow or Friday I will drive to Orangeville, Jim's sister had said she'd spend a few days with mom..might be good for her to go back home however difficult it might be

Asked Sharon which would be a better day

I buy them at the flea market Barb in Fort Myers..reasonable price

best part is you feel so comfortable, it's like wearing less than jammies but you look dressed up

I'll see if I can find her link

Fat cat pattern if anyone wants to give it a try!

I will probably do a meandering stitch around the cats.

Love that top Betty!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

well, Winnipeg is cold.....thank goodness this cold spell is supposed to end today.
Went to see my mom right from the airport. She is just how I expected - tiny & tired.
She has picked up a hospital virus & is in a room with someone else who has it. We have to glove & gown to see her, and toss them out before we leave. This is something that is running through the hospital. And she has fluid on her lungs.
They were talking about a feeding tube, and also a drain tube for her lungs...... She had said once before that she did not want to be kept alive with tubes and things coming out of her.
The hospital and we are now talking about Comfort Care.
She is not eating much, and all the tests... but nothing found out as to why she had this happen in the first place.
I cried myself to sleep last night......
This afternoon I will get a ride with my brother in law, Glen, when he goes to pick Alice up, and then I can either take the bus, or get a ride home with Michelle (my daughter) when she goes home from work - the hospital is sorta on the way for her.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So glad to hear you got to visit your Mom Susan. We will keep her in our prayers.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Susan so glad to hear from you, I was hoping you would be able to update us. Sounds like it is a really good thing you are there to spend some time with your mom. Hugs.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

thank you, Karen & LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the link LindaKay, is a project I'd like to make.

Susan, thanks for updating us on your mom..sending prayers with those before me, difficult seeing her like that but what a blessing though that through the generosity of some wonderful people you get to spend time with her..am sure she was excited to see you.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Susan, take a deep breath and cry all you want......did the same thing. They seem so tiny and fragile at this point. Enjoy the time you have with her.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes, I am blessed.... both in having my mom here to see her, and for having her, such wonderful family & friends, and certainly that includes all of you........ my sisters

So true Karen, Love it!!!

Hugs Susan, sending prayers....

Betty, when are services for Jim??? Are they near your home?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, Jim didn't want to be in funeral home. He is being cremated, mom and Sharon will go to Waubaushene when the snow leaves and pick a site then we will have something here, celebration of life, seeing I'm only a few miles from the cemetery.

Just got a call, go Monday noon for the visit with specialist..sure didn't take long to rebook me.

Susan, enjoy the time with your mom

Love the photo Karen..when are you heading north?

With all the fleece found the beautiful book Sharon gave me re quilting, lovely to browse through..now how did she know I'd love a quilting book.

She will be heading down to FarmVille VA next week to breed one of her dogs, bigger undertaking that I would do seeing as we have storms almost every day. Think she will drive if she leaves mid afternoon to Rochester and go south from there..we looked at map trying to avoid as much mountain driving as possible and that seems the route but dangerous if the weatherj conditions are not good

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hoping to head up by the week-end. Set DGS and wife to getting their things they are keeping ready to go as they have much needs to be winnowed out. Then we can figure what size truck we need. Want to get small as possible as one way trucks are expensive.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe by that time Karen the north will be cleaned up..does someone plow while you are away?

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Susan, hope you find some comfort in being with your Mom. I'm sure she is so happy to have you there.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We have private turn-around past the end of the county road. County plows it completely as we allow them to turn around there. Otherwise they would have to back up for over 1/2 a mile. We can call our tenant to use snow thrower to clear us a path to the house until hubby gets area cleared better.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is good then..

You say tenant, do you have part of your house rented or are there cabins

Waiting for 4:30"then Rita and I will take a quick run into Midland..she is looking for boots, might do same

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good afternoon.

Betty, my sincere condolences and kindest regards to you and your family. It seems almost as if we have all lost someone we know thanks to your descriptions and stories. Jim seemed a good and kind gentleman.

Good thoughts Susan. Have a lovely visit with your family. Hope you have a safe trip home.

Good thoughts also for M and Jewel's family. Saying good bye is never easy.

Hope you all have warmer weather coming your way. Stay Warm and be Safe.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you kindly Jean..yes he was a kind and gentle welshman!
Have you been affected by the weather?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We have a small 3 bedroom house across the street from ours that we rent. For the past two years has been a young couple with two little ones who are the tenants. They are very good. for instance now they feed my birds while I'm gone.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Susan .. on my unit the type of care you are speaking of was called the '3C' Care. Comfort and COMPASSION.
Glad you are there with Mom and family.

Betty, Jewels funeral was amazing !! GONE are the days of a 'typical' service.
The family had set up a 50" flat screen TV and a DVD of Jewel's pictures was running, along with her favourite music .. Simon and Garfunkle, the Beatles, and more ..
Patti did very well with the eulogy, and, because Jewel was such an avid animal lover, she recited a version of the RAINBOW BRIDGE that left everyone in tears.

I am pooped

HUGS to everyone

~M~

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Glad she had a grand send off, M!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Most of our funeral homes do the same, always one room dedicated to music and cd playing with photo's

Few years ago many people brought in craft items she had made to show her varied talents.

Karen, it's a blessing when You have good tenants

Just back from Walmart..got my bins, some groceries and gee whiz it tired me out..

Linda had called this morning to see how I was doing health wise, told her I couldn't talk about it, promised I'd not complain

Because I'd not tell her she sent me this

Loved the video Betty, and, how true it is !!
Glad you got your ibns, now I guess you'll be filling them with completed projects?

Won't comment on the weather, no use ..
Going for a quick trip to the border to pick up a parcel, then to the gym
Am thinking I might nap this afternoon .. no .. I WILL have a nap !

Already yawning !!
At least I'm on the green side of the grass ^_^

Morning, still snowing, no school bus cancellations though..might only make my way to midland to pick up X-rays

Just talked to mom, having a rough time, crying and begging Sharon to live with her..no way that could ever happen, Sharon fight depression every single day having mom would do her in.

She did not ask me, told her much the same as Sharon, tried to tell her best would be to move into a seniors complex, somewhere where she would have apartment but staff on site, I mentioned this before, thought she would go off the wall but didn't

Right now it's getting her home..she asked I go Saturday as she , Sharon and Mike have a few things to do today and tomorrow.

Hard times coming

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Be careful driving "M".

The past few days I have been coughing a lot, so I went to the Dr. yesterday and found out I have bronchitis and ear infections again! Came home with more cough meds and antibiotics. I was also told not to travel anywhere. She said if I was better I can go but all Dr.'s offices got the message to tell those with the crud to stay home and stop spreading germs. So there goes my trip to Michigan for my Dad's 80th birthday on the 21st! She said if I was better I can go but all Dr.'s offices got the message to tell those with the crud to stay home and stop spreading germs. Lets hope the meds work this time!
